  1. Ok first the good...built my bracket and harness for the stebel airhorn. Works great and since I had it and the aluminum stock laying around it cost zero dollars. Now the BAD. I attacked the job of splitting the fairing yesterday to find the previous owner had glued the chrome windshield mole on because one of the end tabs was broken. I see no choice but to buy it and it looks like 140 bucks or so! crappy design! Also I see that my windshield retaining strip like some others on here was assembled and the 2 center bolts left out. It's under warranty but with the broken chrome I am sure this will somehow be my fault. The whole thing makes me sick... anyone ever have to have stuff like that handled under warranty? It also looks like there may be some seeping around the rear diff mounting flange. On the plus side... we did go for a 120 mile ride today... I was staring at the tape holding the chrome on the whole time :-( Frank
  2. will a tank cover and windshield off an 85 fit my 83.
  3. Anyone know what the standard size of the windshield is and what is the tallest and widest shield I can get and where from???? star4772
  4. Ok on my 83 I have a few things I want to clean up for looks. One is on the right side cove. The tab on the tail of the fairing broke so the previous owner just duck taped it in place. I can fix the tab but how do I remove the tape remains without damaging the paint? The second is the windshield, it has like a mild fog to it. How can I get it nice and clear again? Or should I just get a new one? The third is the aluminum has a white oxidation, what do you recomend to remove this and protect it? Thank You, Shaun
  5. Finally bought a 2008 venture. I'm looking for a low windshield. Anyone have one to sell? Must be like new. I don't want any defects. Thank you.
  6. I've got a great "BOSS" 3 pocket windshield bag on my RSTD, love it. But I would like to know, what 3 pocket bag members are using on their RSVs? Web links would be good for pics and price. I have a wide F4 windshield without a vent. But I would say anything that fits stock will fit the same. Thanks, Mike G in SC
  7. I recently purchased an F4 Customs windshield...and am EXTREMELY happy with it, except for one little (very minor) thing. I have searched the internet till I am tired...and I KNOW how to search...but still can't find the info I am looking for. OK...so here's the info I am needing. I looked at my STOCK WINDSHIELD to see how the tint strip was laid down and this is what I found out... The first layer is a FLAT BLACK layer of TAPE that is 1.25 inches wide. And on top of that and overlapping the black is another 1.25 inch of clear tape with black dots of graduated sizes (which screens the light)...just like you see on cars. I have tried to find this "tape" or "tapes" on the net and can't find it anywhere, in fact, I don't even know the terminology to use...so if you look at your stock shield, you'll see what I am talking about. Can anyone provide any info? Thanks. Wally
  8. I just saw this ad on E-Bay for a 2005 Royal Star Tour Deluxe Windshield with lowers, Starting bid is $499.99, and in his ad it says that it retails for $3000.00,... Is that actually possible..? Just curious.. Here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2005-Yamaha-Royal-Star-Tour-Deluxe-Windshield-/150559219954?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item230e0760f2
  9. I hope this helps anyone getting ready to order a windshield. This is just info. I ordered an F4 17 1/2 extra wide "no vent" last week and it came last week. Fast shipping:cool10: A mistake was made and they sent me a windshield with a vent hole but no vent. I called and they said they will ship me another one and they would pay for shipping both ways. So far so good. I got my windshield yesterday with in three days and installed it today. Now comes the info for those looking for a new shield. I had ordered 3 years ago a Wide Yamaha shield. It was too tall for me so I cut it down to 17". The measurement was from right behind the gas cap straight up to the top of the windshield. I could see over the windshield with about 3" to spare. I liked it. I am 5'10 1/2" If you look at Yamaha's windshields in their book, you will notice they have a black haze at the bottom. That is there for a reason. I know this because. The F4 that I installed today doesn't have that feature. With out it you can see down behind the windshield and see stuff you ought not to see even with the chrome piece installed. I took the chrome back off a took a black magic marker "for now" and colored the bottom and it helped. Come spring, I will mask and paint it or what ever? Also the 17 1/2 shield now measures 22" high form behind the gas cap to top of windshield. It is also 1 1/4 wider each side than Yamaha's extra wide shield. This may not be the so called "right way" to measure but, it will let you know how I measured mine and I was happy with the 17". I will have to wait until the weather breaks here in Michigan before I will know if I like it or not. I already miss the black haze at the bottom and I can always cut the shield down if I don't like looking through it. Just food for thought.
  10. Got my new (to me) windshield in the mail today! (thanks oldbear!). Decided since it warmed up to 13 degrees today, I would get out there in the garage and install the windshield...while I was at it I went ahead and installed my new windblocker (to keep the air off of my knees) that my dad got me for Christmas. Here's a pic of them installed and the difference in the windshields...
  11. A new soldier was on sentry duty at the main gate. His orders were clear. No car was to enter unless it had a special sticker on the windshield. A big Army car came up with a general seated in the back. The sentry said, "Halt, who goes there?" The chauffeur, a corporal, says, "General Wheeler." "I'm sorry, I can't let you through. You've got to have a sticker on the windshield." The general said, "Drive on!" The sentry said, "Hold it! You really can't come through. I have orders to shoot if you try driving in without a sticker." The general repeated, "I'm telling you, son, drive on!" The sentry walked up to the rear window and said, "General, I'm new at this. Do I shoot you or the the driver?"
  12. Looking for a new windshield for the bike. I still have the original installed but want something else. I have heard that they can delaminate if they are cut down. So far I have seen the windshield from Slip Strreamer or Clearview. Any thoughts or preference on those two? Open to something else as well. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated!
  13. Anyone ever have this issue? See pics. What's odd is that the DEALER (who remains nameless at this point) said he replaced the complete INNER FAIRING piece about 6 weeks ago (under warranty) to resolve the exact same issue. I cracked the fairing to replace a stereo cable...and low and behold...the windshield bracket-to-inner-fairing mounts are completely broken. Thoughts? Is this a COMMON issue that all RSVs have? Or am I just "lucky"?
  14. Well I decided to cut my OEM windshield down to 10" so that I could see over instead of having to look thru it. I followed the direction on the forum. I taped (yellow masking tape)both side to make sure I did not scratch it, as it WAS in perfect shape. Got out the jig saw, a metal cutting blade and some sand paper. The cut went perfect. Got her sand smooth and all looked good. At this point I'm feeling really proud of the job I did. Now it was time to remove the tape. Things went down hill from here. As I removed the tape part of the clear coating in the windshield peeled of with the tape. . So I now have a shield I can see over, but I can't stand looking at the damage I did.
  15. I wonder if there is a slightly lower windshield than stock for my 07 venture, oem or otherwise. I think I would like it to be a couple of inches lower. Have considered cutting it down but it is quite scratched up anyway. Any advice??
  16. I did find an OEM windshield at bikebandit.com for $88.96 and that seems to be a fair price. Can I perhaps find an even cheaper somwhere else? I live in Sweden so toll, vat and freight will be added... My windshield is "milky" and I don't think it will pass MOT /Lars
  17. I just finished cutting my stock windshield and it was way easier than I thought it would be. I bought my RSV about 2 weeks ago and picked it up at about 2000 and rode home in the dark. It really worried me not being able to see out of the windshield very well. I searched the forum and learned that I am not the only one concerned with this. I took about 3.5 inches off the shield and love the new look. I have yet to test ride yet but dont forsee any problems. I also got my windshield bags delivered today and if I must say I really like the look of them. I did notice that the windscreen coating peeled when I removed the masking tape after the cut job. I read the forums for solutions and tried duct tape as suggested but this became a pain. I went into wifes closet and found a lint roller. This worked like a charm I was very pleased but had to strip layers of tape from roller after every pass. I used about half the rollers tape but my wife will never know (SHHHH). I am also very please to announce that I am officailly a supporting member of this wonderful site. Thanks for all the great info. http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h444/vegastruckee/SAM_0628.jpg http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h444/vegastruckee/SAM_0632.jpg
  18. I am going to buy a windshield from clearview and was wondering if the sealant around the vent they put in for you yellows after a while. Thanks for the response.
  19. Being a new (to me) 06 RSTD owner, was wondering how others handle traveling with the bikes quick release components. Wife and I have taken several overnight trips recently, and we always pull the windshield and backrest at the end of the day and take to our room. No biggee really except we're pretty spontaneous which usually results in an upstairs room. The dang organized folks get the first level. Anyone have theft problems with these items when on the road or public parked? Any creative locking solutions?
  20. hello everyone. i just purchased a 2000 venture and i have a few questions. i love the bike and after i took my wife for a ride in the country and then on the freeway, she was fine under 60 mph but over that she is getting beat to death with the wind. the windshield on the bike is a show chrome after market windshield. my question is, is the windshield need to be taller or lower. i am 6'6'' and 230 lbs. I have a yamaha raider also and she don't complain about the wind on it. but on the venture she sets up higher. how can i correct the problem. the windshield is 13'' tall from chrome trim at the bottom of the windshield to the top of the shield. and it is 31'' wide. any help would be appriciated
  21. After researching different antennas on line I found a good deal on an amplified AM-FM antenna at my local PEP Boys! The unit cost $19.99 + tax. I tested and mounted it below the windshield. It works better than the original 48" CB whip. Attached are a few photos for anyone interested in the install.
  22. My son is still playing with his photoshop program and came up with another new more better Avatar then the one i posted yesterday. This image is actually part of the image engraved on the windshield of my scoot.
  23. Just about got a turkey in the chest today. He was gliding across the road about windshield height.... Luckly.... with the help of my horn and braking, we didn't meet up. It got me to thinking about the time I rode in to PKB on my bike and a Mechanic there showed me scars on his chest and shoulders a couple years back. Said it was from a 20 lb. turkey strike, He was on a harley, without a windshield traveling about 60 mph. Took him off the bike an busted up his ribs... Didn't quite know wether to believe him or not... I'm a believer now.... This was about an 8 on the pucker scale! Just be careful out there...
  24. Hello Everyone: FYI, I just listed a 14" windshield and lower plastic pieces, that I resently took off of my 05 RSTD. It is less than one year old. I simply needed a bit taller windshield. I put on a 19.5 inch windshield. Let me know if anyone is interested. Thanks...
  25. Hello everyone. I'm brand new here. I have a 2006 RSV, and it's nearly perfect! I am thinking about getting a shorter windshield for summer riding. I love the big shield when it's cold, but I would like to feel a breeze when it's 90 degrees. I was wondering if anyone could give me feedback on the shorter shields. I'm 6' tall, and I'm looking at either a 6" or an 8" windshield (measured from the front where the chrome meets the plastic). I'm mainly looking for guys (about my height) that have put on short windshields. I don't want to get a bunch of buffeting around my head, but I would like to "feel" some airflow. Thanks for any info.
