1. This story starts back in Feb'2012 when my beloved Motorvation Trailer got legs and disappeared over the horizon. Since the escape it's remained at large. It was insured so I wasn't worried about finding something to replace it, and after a few months I started shopping Craigslist instead of hoping to see the Motorvation listed for sale by the DS that took it. About a month ago I ran into a nice 2003 American Legend Trailer and bought it. It looks good behind the RSV even though it's black, and the price was very right. Fast forward to last weekend. Just before buying the AL I found a white 2010 Teardrop listed in a local auction, but ran into a scheduling problem and couldn't make the auction. To my surprise it turned up again last weekend due to the bidder not having the bucks to pay for it. So I bought it this time around. The price was very close to what I had paid for the Legend. I actually bought it to make a few bucks since I already had a trailer that I liked. Here's the conundrum.... The dang thing is growing on me, and now I don't know what to do??? Which one should I keep?? The Legend is built to retro blend with a Harley and does look good behind the '99. The Teardrop has cleaner lines and is like a cavern inside. Which way do you think I should go???
2. Got this from a member (with his permission) off the GL1800Riders board. Thought it was a good "guide" for all to consider when parking your scoot in a parking lot with the trailer hooked up for safety. http://i393.photobucket.com/albums/pp16/SilvrT/minimumriskparkinga1.jpg
3. I have an E3 on the front of my 2nd Gen with around 12,000 miles on it the other day the front end seemed vary unstable on uneven roads but but fine on smoother. The tire looks OK but it seems to be worn more on the left more than right my question is can this cause the bike to feel unstable? I alway keep the air pressure up in the tires and this happened out of the blue you can tell the difference more riding 2 up or pulling a trailer. Even hitting the road snakes it will act funny almost like it hops or wobbles over them. I know you can feel the trailer if that hits some uneven road or pot holes but this was almost to the point of dumping it. I'm just thinking front tire is the issue but not sure, the front forks have been checked steering head and fork oil changed at 22,000 in May I have 24,000 on it now. Just wondering what your thoughts may be or if anyone has had the same problem, Thanks
4. Just got my trailer hitch from Larry (carbon One), I must say it's a nice piece of work. It's time to finish up on the trailer so i can use it to go to NY.
5. Does ANYBODY know who has the trailer Aussie Annie used in N. America last year when she dropped it off in the state of Washington??? IH Truck Guy is in Seattle right now ready to get it IF we can figure out where it is..... You can reply here or call me on my cell at 317-370-0139 THANKS!!
6. Just posting a warning to everyone about using Harbor freight ramps to load a Venture. I bought the ramps just knowing they were going to be the cats meow. Had them around since 2-29-12 & just used them for the first time last Friday. Hooked onto the little trailer I have, backed into the shop door, lined the Venture up and drove it on. No problem????? Drove to Hog roast / Poker Run for ABATE Dist # 10. Went to unload next morning while the boss was in the 5th wheel "gettin purdy". Mark & I had agreed that we would meet in a city that was about 60 miles from each of us. I had a long hour to unload & prep for the short ride. WELL, I put the ramp on the end of the trailer, unstrapped the Venture and proceeded to roll back to the ramp and eased onto it...........BANG,xy//!!..!@#$%^&, oh no the ramp must have slipped. Nope it broke right where the tang sets on the trailer, then broke the hinges (3 of them) between the sections. Fortunately the trailer was only about a foot tall, but there I sat with the rear wheel stuck between the sections about half way down the ramp and the bike still about 2 feet on the trailer. Well I hollered for Babe, and I hollered for Babe, AND I HOLLERED FOR BABE, well you guessed it she thought I was hollering for the dogs & ignored me. So I finally thought you can't stand here all morning so I tried to push the bike back off the ramp, but when it went back about another foot it pinched on the non-broken ramp and pushed the bike over to the right & you all know what came next. Yep, I just got my right leg out of the way and let the 980# behemoth lay down. Dammit. You all know the feeling or if you don't you will some day. Well 3 guys came to my rescue & helped me set the bike back up (Thanks Pig Cookers" and get it off of the trailer & broken ramp. Of course I was 15 min late getting to meet Mark & Babe said "What took You so long??" Gish. Oh well nobody got hurt & Venture got one little mark. My 1st to put on it. Long story with a warning. When I got home I read the label on the box I took the ramp out of Friday. "1500# capacity cumulatively 500# on each section evenly distributed". WELL everyone knows you read the direction after the SCR3W UP. Be careful if you buy one of these ramps they will let you down if you know what I mean.
7. I was coming out of Aberdeen SD today at about 1:30 p.m. and I met a black Venture pulling a trailer headed west on U.S. Hwy 12. There isnt many ventures around here, and I thought I knew most all of them. Just wondering if it was anybody from this site. The trailer was a car top box mounted to trailer, and it looked pretty nice. I gave a good wave from my pickup truck but I doubt they saw me (split lane road).
8. As always, Craigslist cost me some more $$ today. Saw a simple ad for "cargo trailer" in the motorcycle section, clicked and it read "Shoreline cargo trailer. Works well". No pictures in the ad, no phone # but I sent a e-mail for more info and sent my phone #. I forgot about the ad then later this morning I get a call from the guy. I asked what kind of shape it was in and he said.....Well it has a few chips in the paint in the front from being towed and a small scuff in the paint on a back corner. I'm thinkin....wouldn't it be great if that were the ONLY issues?! I got the directions and headed over to look at it. It turns out he bought it new in 1981, used it gently for a few years then it sat in his barn "for a looooong time". His description was right on! When he first bought it he didn't like the short tongue and the way it towed and he wanted to get the ice chest out of the inside for more room so he made a new 1 piece tongue, added a rack for the ice chest, made a insulated cover for the ice chest then decided to build a rear bumper and have it chromed. He also said there were some problems with the wiring when it was new and instead of laying on the ground to work on the wiring,he built a really neat stand that slides under the trailer hooking on to the axle and rear frame section. Once the stand is under the trailer, you simply pick up the tongue and the trailer rolls on to the back and is VERY sturdy. This makes it a breeze to check the wiring, pack the bearings etc. He had the trailer stored on end in the barn for years. This demo of the stand gave me a good opportunity to inspect the bottom of the fiberglass and frame etc. Anyway, the fiberglass is in like new condition, the original paint is still in pretty good shape(good enough to use as is) and he included a chrome swivel hitch, the stand, the ice chest and cover and 2 new unmounted tires. It cost me about as much as a new HF tagalong would have but The Shoreline is built much better IMO. So far my only plans are to change out the bulbs for LEDs,clean, inspect and pack the bearings, mount new tires and change the plug out to one that will hook to my bike. I couldn't resist and took it to town, loaded up 80 pounds of dog food and a weeks worth of groceries and it pulled fine. I haven't had time to clean the barn dust off yet but it don't look too bad............ http://i47.tinypic.com/30139ea.jpg http://i49.tinypic.com/1zoak95.jpg
9. Talked to Jim and we seem to be falling short on ticket sales for the trailer...This trailer is costing us a little over $1,600.00 to purchase. We still need to sell around 50 more tickets to come up with the purchase price. I know we still have about 4 or 5 weeks till the rally but I'd feel alot better if we had this expense covered by now. If you have not purchased you tickets yet, now is the time to get yours.. I know money is tight for most of us and if you had any intentions of getting a ticket or 2 please do so now. This is a great trailer and someone has to win it.........WHY NOT YOU !
10. Two quick questions for those who trailer often. I have an '86 VR and Piggybacker trailer. 1 - What air pressure to you run in the trailer tires? 2 - Getting some sway when I hit 75, below that is good. Any adjustments I can make? Dave
11. can bigger wheels and tires be put on this w/o a lot of trouble?
12. I know from time to time riders are looking for a cheap trailer, I'm one of them, I've been looking for about 9 months, and had settled on getting a small trailer and building one & then last night I find a gem... now it is on back order, BUT i'm in no hurry.. http://www.harborfreight.com/automotive-motorcycle/trailer-accessories/600-lb-capacity-78-inch-tag-along-trailer-66771.html
13. Bought a new2me trailer off Craigslist this morning to replace the stolden Motorvation. A black 2003 American Legend Sport. It had been towed behind a Road King and it's grungy as all get out around the front end. So it's going to take a while before I can peal off the soot. Me thinks the Harley had a problem.... One thing interesting is the ice chest is identical to the one I had on the Motorvation. There must be a company out there making these things for MC Trailer Manufacturers...?? It also came with the complete ball and receiver off the RK. Also grungy as h3ll, but cleanable. It's one of the vertical type that fits up inside the fender with a 'L' shaped stinger. I'll probably sell it to recoup some of my outlay... Anyway it's a happy day in Mudville.......
14. I recently bought a trailer from harbor freight for a trip this summer out west before I pack up for the trip I planning I draggin it around home a lot any advice on max weight, tire psi, suspension psi, safe speed, anything I should watch for as far as harbor freight quality "bearings, balanced tires" etc. Also I haven't tore off the stock lights and put my L.E.D.'s on yet, am I ok to run the standard lights as far as the staters go?
15. Just finished wiring the beast for a trailer using a Reese Towpower tail light converter. Bike lights behave normally after completion. When I connect the trailer and turn the key the headlight fuse blows. I see two possibilities: 1. There's a short in the running lights on the trailer or 2. The trailer running lights are too much draw for the circuit. Any helpful thoughts appreciated...
16. Took a 924 mile round trip yesterday, picked up an ALMOST NEW (only 3533 miles on an '08) RSV to make mine again. Wanna say howdy and thanks to Jim and his wife and their dog Rowdy, it was great meeting them. Got back at 5 AM this morning! Better to sleep in your own bed! Trailer was almost too short, we had to take the trunk off! But that's why I ALWAYS take my tool bag with me!!
17. The picture is of my new (used) trailer. Gettin' ready to ride!
18. Hi all, I am currently looking an extended trip to eastern North America this summer and need either a pull behind or camper trailer. Still don't know which way to go but I found a cargo trailer on Ebay that looks good and I was hoping someone could give me some feedback on these trailers. It is a Liberty GL Motorcycle Trailer from America's best trailers. The link is below. Does anyone have this trailer or have had dealings with the company? Thanks, Tom http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fiberglass-Motorcycle-Trailers-Tow-Pull-Cargo-Behind-Harley-Goldwing-Bike-Etc-/170832291220?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27c665e594&vxp=mtr
19. As requested by playboy here are some pictures of the finished set-up. I used the wiring harness the M1A1MECH makes and it made this very easy. I had alot of help from playboy as well with all this he was a great help. The trailer is an AMT (America's Best Trailer) the Excape model the 4' one. I'm using the swivel ball that they sent with the trailer and I used the Hopkins 46225 converter that was recommended by playboy and mounted it under the seat behind the battery. I ran the wiring harness along the frame rail by the rear fender and it seems to be working fine. I may have to check the axles for alignment, hopefully someone can chime in and let me know how to do it. Anywho its a great trailer for the money and I want to say THANKS again for everyones help in making this happen. Now I have to do some riding before the end of June due to a shoulder injury that will keep me off the RSV for 6 months after surgery, by then it will be "Snowing" Big Toms favorite word so my riding season will be cut short this year I think unless they let me put it off longer. My maiden voyage was going for groceries for the "BOSS Lady" and a lot of people were looking at my scoot/trailer combo and I was the boy with the most toys in the sandbox for a few hours. Picture #4 is the swivel ball, #5 is the wire harness.
20. I was just wondering if this is a harbor freight trailer??http://venturerider.org/forum/picture.php?albumid=1039&pictureid=6534
21. I'd like to covert my Rover trailer into a one man sleeper, for my July road trip. with these pictures, can this be done to the trailer? Please call me, I'll drop the trailer off. 954-309-3983
22. I have heard about setting up a relay, I am in the process of making a deal on a bushtec trailer in Las Vegas, I am of course in Illinois was wondering if This could actually work to do a trailer relay. or if someone is headed this direction and would bring it with them!!! it does have the bushtec Hiam hitch so that would be a consideration for whomever would consider doing this.
23. I have a supplier close to me that has three cyclemate trailers that appear to be new. He says he is getting out of the business and has them listed at about 400.00 off list. IF anyone is interested, let me know and I will go take pictures etc. I am not sure when they stopped being made or if they have stopped. I can not find anything but 09 info on most websites. If anyone has some more info on the trailer please post it here. I was looking for a trailer but I think he still wants too much for them. Especially if they are several years old. He has a white and a black cm2000 and then one of the more trimlined units. Not sure of that number. OK here are two pics I took of one of them.
24. Ok, Trailer wiring question. I found an led stop turn strip. I put two smaller LED's at the top of the trailer as stop turns and hooked the center to running lights and was going to do stop then it dawned on me I was running a four wire system so they are stop turn. I am running a four wire system. Short of running another wire is there a way to grab the stop / turns from both sides, run it through some relays so I can get another center brake on the trailer???
25. I wouldn't have any luck at all... With only 40 miles left to go, while hawling an excavator back to my Dad's, I managed to blow the torque converter seal. Luckily I made it to a wayside. Now it's hurry up and wait for a truck to come and hook up to the trailer I had to drop. Then it's back here again with the same truck and trailer to pick up my broken truck to get it back to the garage. Then I am going to have to make time to pull out this POS E4OD tranny and swap in something better. Which also means I am going to have to track down a new computer to bypass electronics for this transmission. D'OH!
