  1. Has any one use a spray cleaner to clean Ing. switch mine is sticking some times when I put key in and try to turn on bike
  2. Took the bike to get it inspected. I had worked the horn button a few times and got it working. But at the dealer I couldn't get it to work. I leave the dealer and I can get it to work when the bike is running. I decide to take the bike home and clean the contact points in hopes to get the horn working better. I take the switch control apart and find a lot of dirt in it I clean it with Q tips sprayed with a like windex. I try working the control trying to make the contacts touch but still can't get the switch to . I finish the cleaning and put it all back together all the other controls work fine but the Horn button. I know theres no fuse in the system are there any suggestions as to what i can do next. I can"t figure out why its not working . I know that its a constant feed to the switch and the button simply closes the circuit, If the contacts are touching why wouldn't it be working?
  3. Swapped Neutral Switch, for cracked gear position switch...works perfect, no leak from here anymore....now to stop the other leaks.
  4. What would be the best type of switch to wire in to manually shut off the HID light prior to start up? Id like to find something decorative to maybe mount on the inner fairing. What amps/volts/etc would I need? Dont get too technical here. Just plain ol truckdrivers english please.
  5. Speedometer internal pictures a member asked for. Posting here so others can see them . Last picture is of the reed switch that controls the cruise & the turn cancel by distance feature. Gary
  6. I have a 2006 RSTD. My Liner had a switch that was meant for running lights. The RSTD doesn't have this switch. So I'll need a switch and light ideas. I'd like to be able to turn them off and on separate from the headlight and the switch has to look like it wasn't an afterthought. Ideas?
  7. Hi everyone, still got the light problem but have narrowed it to the switch.Anyone know of a good place to get one or anyone have one lying around that they would be willing to sell.I checked Bike bandit and you have to buy the whole left hand switch assembly for over 200.00!!!! OOuch!!!
  8. I'm realizing the the VR I have is an '84, not an '83 (licensed as an '83) Anyhoo, the turnsignal switch needs to be replaced. It is the unit with the choke lever circled around the handlebar end. PN 41R-83973-00-00. Anybody have any leads to where I can purchase one? I've tried the NOS Yamaha dealers on Google, but no dice. I read the thread about taking it apart and cleaning it, but the way it feels when I try to use it, I'm thinking it has something physically broken inside. I can also see the tiny balls and springs disappearing onto my garage floor, so I prone to replace it, if possible. I found some used ones on E-bay, but who knows what you get that way. Don't need TWO broken switches! Any help greatly appreciated.
  9. the side stand switch doesnt actuall "kill" the bike anymore. should i replace it? i cannot seem to find a new one. could it be something else????
  10. My '83 Royale with cruise fried the plunger on the brake light switch. I mistakenly ordered the two wire switch, when,of course, I NEED the four wire switch. Given that the four wire switch is several times the cost of the two wire switch, is there some way to use the two wires for the brake light, and do something else with the other two wires to fool the cruise into working? Possibly tying them together to complete the circuit, or applying 12V to one or the other? Any help greatly appreciated!
  11. I need to find a new spring for my 89 horn switch, I suspect it is sold as as a switch assembly only. Here is the link to the parts diagram as shown on Boats.net http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamaha/Motorcycle/1989/VENTURE%20ROYALE%20-%20XVZ1300DWC/HANDLE%20SWITCH%20LEVER/parts.html I have looked elsewhere, none of the diagrams illustrate a horn switch part number, and if they do, I can not figure it out. Anyone .....
  12. Hi everyone New guy here. I have an '83 Venture Royale with factory cruise control. I need a new front brake light switch. The one I received from Yamaha has only two wires, while the existing one on the bike has 4 wires, and runs through a small block (resistor or capacitor?) before plugging into a four gang block in the headlight shell. The Yamaha dealer I spoke with couldn't find any reference to the different switch, or a part number for it. Anyone had this same problem??
  13. Since I don't use my audio equipment, this afternoon I got busy yanking some of my 93 apart (multiple things are going on at once). I've got the amp equipment removed. No problems there. This is what I'm thinking of doing. The mute switch on the handlebar audio controls (what IS that box called, anyway?) is a 2-position simple on/off switch. When I convert my headlight to HID, that switch would function nicely as my on/off control for the headlight, eh? So I traced the wire routing and got that whole box and connector removed from the bike and now it sits on the bench. Buuuttt.... there doesn't seem to be an easy way of disassembling the thing further than where I've got it now (see photo), and I have no idea which wires go to which switching devices in there. I looked for other threads concerning this, but I can't seem to find anything quite this detailed. I don't suppose any of our long term members have been down this road before and perhaps somebody has a pinout of this whole switch control? Dingy? Dingy? DDDIIINNNGGGYYY???????
  14. All my lights work except the headlight? I bought the bike in pieces, I was told by the previous owner that they tore it apart trying to get the headlight working. I reassembled it and it runs great. The led goes through its checklist and everything checks out fine. I have power to and from the fusebox, but no headlight. I went to the harness behind the headlight and fed the system from there on a toggle switch with a fuse and it works fine, high and low beam. I can probably ride it forever like this but I would still like to find the problem and return it to the stock setup. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Ray.
  15. 06 RSV. when put the stand down in with it in neutral it dies so took the switch off took the back panel off of the switch treid to start it it started moved the handle bars tried to start it again it wont start this has happen to me bofore i just rock the bike while on the side stand and some times its start some times it dont but i hear a loud clicking noise so i took the seat and all the side covers off. the noise is comeing from what i can tell is the starter selanoid i am guessing that that is what it is its under the seat and the positive and negative cables run to it. so can it be that the thing is going bad it has done this off and on for the past two years or is it something else that i should be looking for?
  16. Hey all, I checked out most all the threads on the neutral switch, but didn't find anything that resembles this issue. I had to replace the ignition switch ( main power on contact plate fried). put in a switch from a '78 400 special mounted on the left side of seat. everything worked fine when on the hoist. Set the bike down, tried to start,,, no spark! followed the wiring schematic and traced it back to the neutral switch. will start only when the stand is up or stand down and clutch engaged. Could it be the gear indicator in the Tranny? if so, would it be best to bypass the clutch neutral switch on the bars? I prefer to keep the stand working, and i don't use the clutch to disengage the cruise. Thanks in advance
  17. Having increasingly more difficulty turning the key and starting the bike. 86 Royale. I do know one night I saw the switch arcing to my keys on the key chain. Any way does any one have an ignition/(main switch)#1NL-82501-01-00 with key They could part with.
  18. I took my (new to me) 1986 Royale out for the first time this weekend for a shake-down run. But when I got back, I noticed that my headlight was not working. In after-thought, I don't remember if it was working when I took off, I checked turn signals and brake lights, etc, but not headlight. No warning indicators on the dash lit up. I know before this "Sea-foam drive it like I stole event", it was working when I was checking the bike over. Anyways, I've checked the bulb - ohm'd good. filiments intact but only 1.2 volts present. Opened, cleaned left side handle bar switch, also minimum (1.2) voltage present on both low and high. Now, I'm thinking that it might be in the starter switch, since I'm not getting any indication of problems on the cmu and I never started it until yesterday. Am I on the right track?
  19. Here’s my question. Why have a relay for the driving (passing lights). My front fairing is still apart and I can change my wiring easily. I bought the Kuryakyn Master Cylinder switch and have the hot connected to the Red wire with yellow strip (power on all the time when key is turned on). One of the switch wires I connected to the driving lights. The hot wire to the switch has a 30 amp fuse and the wire going to the lights has a 10 amp fuse. There is power to the switch when I turn the key on and I can toggle the driving lights on and off with the switch. If I ever forget to turn them off, the power is cut as soon as I turn the key off. I don’t know a lot about electrical draw and amps, but was just wondering why I needed to put in a relay. Other than the fuse being in the fairing, is there any problems with the way I hooked it up? Thanks Melvin
  20. i just got the gloves for christmas and wore them 4 times a total of maybe 16 hours with the heat on. Just thursday I thought the heat wasnt working. i blamd it on the bitter cold and kept riding anyway . Saturday i noticed the light on the rocker switch was blinking . The switch looked great when i oppend and inspected. the gloves work well plugged directly into the power source. has anyone else had a problem with the switch. It has been used for 5 rides tops, The sloder joints look good but the bpower cuts off when moving the wire. Can the wire have broken inside the insulator so soon?
  21. Picked up new project a couple weeks ago a 87 Venture Royale. Was told it run a several months ago. Carbs were partially broke down and in a box. Cleaned the carbs and adjusted the valves . Received the new diaphragms this afternoon and installed them and put the carbs back on the bike. Woo Hoo it started. Started it several times and warmed it up. Turned it off at the switch and it kept running????? It did stop when I turned off the kill switch but lights and everything else stayed on. Anyway I played with it and some times it works fine and other times it stays on. Will even start in the key off position, can turn key through the acc position and it kept running. Got it to turn off again (kill switch and then turn the key off,) and did some other things and noticed that lights were on again. It then worked fine turned off with the key and sat fine for another couple of hours without doing anything. Quit for the night without chasing it anymore. I would think it’s the ignition switch but is there anything else I should be looking at? Working on some of the cracks and broken posts in the farings. The replacement post in the last picture is wood dowel some sanding and glued on using Rapid-Fix ( great stuff). Here is a couple of pictures of the progress. Thanks in advance for any ideas.
  22. Anyone tried one of these yet? I'm thinking of ordering one just to see if it works as he says. I am sure with some type of motion switch it could be done and it is a good idea. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorcycle-taillight-downshift-activator-only-99-cents-/120759940263?hash=item1c1dda74a7&item=120759940263&pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr
  23. Is it as bad as it looks like it'll be? What are some things i should look for? How many hours worth of work am i looking at? I'm going to switch to one that has a CB. This will probably be a doozy of a project, but ill start on it after i get my carbs redone and back on the bike
  24. Hello. Im new to this forum, just got my first 2005 RS de luxe...yehaaa.... I test rode it, it was nice... I rode it immediatly the next day, and the 3rd day this happend: I decided to try the cruise control(did not tryied in the test ride...I know...dumb), and whe I reach my desired speed, I engaged the CC, but the engine died... I start it again, came home and try to start it again; It did start in neutral, but since then, every time I engage the 1st or any shift, it died immediatly!!!! So, at this point I can start the engine fine, as long as is in neutral, but it dies on me everytime I change to a shift. My first guess was a failing side-stand switch, but I tested continuity and works fine. My second guess is some sort of clutch sensor or switch, but thats all I can think of.... Any help will be appreciated.... thanks in advance
  25. Where exactly is the front plug located? I just purchased 2 83s with CB's and i cant seem to find the front helmet plug. The back one is located in the same place as it was on my 85 i used to have. I havent dug into it much, but i plan on tearing both bikes apart to make one good bike. Also there is no push to talk switch for the CB. I'm just a little confused on how that works too, but any information would be much appreciated. Thank you CJ
