  1. After meeting Annie at Vogel 2011, I was wondering how many other people have been "MOOSED" by her. And for some reason and I don't know why, I was "MOOSED" everyday and six times on Saturday alone!!(I must be special ). So if you have been "MOOSED" lets us know.
  2. 1989 VR 27,000 miles I just bought it and one of the twist hooks holding the little leather bag to the rear travel bag (trunk) is broken. I've got a replacement part. The screws go into the trunk, where the parts diagram shows there to be a "special nut". Pretty special alright because it is covered with metal frame inside the trunk that the hinges are mounted to as well as other pieces. I don't want to (probably won't) disassemble all that. Has anyone tried to unscrew this piece and get it back together? How did you manage the special nut? Is the nut spot welded to the frame or what? Thanks. Even though I just joined and this is my first post I've been trolling here a while. It's great. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10552988/IMG_0693.JPG
  3. We all made it home safe around six. Great to see everyone again. And another special thanks to Lew and Charlene!
  4. Cody, WY - July 25 - 28 (though most folks are arriving on Sunday evening - July 24th). The rally will soon be upon us - just a little more than 5 weeks away!! Wanted to post some updates for everyone: LODGING: I will be releasing our VentureRider special reserved room blocks on JUNE 16 - so IF you haven't made room reservations yet, please consider doing so now. We have been given very special - discounted - rates - after release of these blocks, the rates will revert back to the regular rates which are going to be MUCH MORE - so, save some money, and make your plans now (if something suddenly came up, you can cancel a room per the cancellation policy of the property - each is different, so know the fine print)! The special VentureRider hotel / campground rates at all properties are only for those members (and / or their guest or trial members) registered and participating at our Rally. The rates are posted in the International VR Flyer EVENT PRE-REGISTRATION DEADLINE: July 1st, 2011. Registration is available at the event - but slightly more - so again, don't hesitate, send it in today and save some This is going to be an awesome meet and greet with some great food, a Chili Cookoff, fun, stories, and most of all lots of incredible riding around the areas - some of the best roads in the nation can be found here (and did I mention ).. All culminating with our Annual Banquet Weds. evening. Don't miss out - see more information at: http://www.cast-aways.com/NewCody.htm ALSO, be sure to check out the Rides and Rallies section here - tons of information under the VentureRider International Rally Thread!!!!!!! Is it time to roll yet - can't wait to ride in and see you all there!!
  5. Just wanted to offer my sincere thanks to all of you who attended my maintenance day. It was great to see all our old friends and meet some new ones as well. This is something that Eileen and I truly enjoy doing and once again, we enjoyed it immensely. It would have been perfect had it been about 10 degrees cooler. I told you that I would not let it rain but I just can't seem to get the temperature thing down. When the last had left and Eileen and I were sitting on the front porch having a cup of coffee, we both had the feeling that it was WAY to quiet. It's almost like an "empty next" syndrome. She looked at me and said "maybe we should do this twice a year". I was quiet surprised by that remark and don't know that it would be a good idea but I was surprised that she said it. I think though that having it once per year makes it a bit more special. If we ever DO decide to do it twice per year, I'm thinking that the fall one would just be for socializing and NOT for maintenance. A lot of work got done and if I try to name all that helped with the many projects then I will surely miss some people. V7Goose is always MAJOR help though as well as Squidley, SkyDoc, Monty and so many others. This just couldn't happen without the help of so many of you. If somebody was there to lend a hand for you and you want to thank them publicly here, please do so. Again, a big thanks to each and every one of you who made the trip. You folks really touch our hearts and you probably have no idea what a huge part that VentureRider plays in my life. You are all very special people. Some of you are so special that perhaps a bit of medication would help.
  6. After 23 years and seeing stuff I never thought I would see, I have joined the ranks of the retired! Or at least semi-retired anyway. My job at the jail is done my penence is paid. I will now be a school bus driver for fun...that means summers off, holidays off...no more shift work, no more missed birthdays, Christmas' or other special events. Its a bit surreal right now as I just woke up after working my last night shift ever! The wheels on the bus go round and round lmao!
  7. Seems if you are on two wheels, you need a special 'inspection' to ride on I-95... The Story.
  8. This two-letter word in English has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that word is 'UP.' It is listed in the dictionary as an [adv], [prep], [adj], [n] or [v]. It's easy to understand UP, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP? At a meeting, why does a topic come UP? Why do we speak UP, and why are the officers UP for election and why is it UP to the secretary to write UP a report? We call UP our friends, brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver, warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen. We lock UP the house and fix UP the old car. At other times this little word has real special meaning. People stir UP trouble, lineUP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses. To be dressed is one thing but to be dressed UP is special. And this UP is confusing: A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP. We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night. We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP ! To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP, look UP the word UP in the dictionary.. In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4 of the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used. It will take UP a lot of your time, but if you don't give UP, you may wind UP with a hundred or more. When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP . When the sun comes out we say it is clearing UP. When it rains, it soaks UP the earth. When it does not rain for awhile, things dry UP. One could go on & on, but I'll wrap it UP, for now ........my time is UP ! Oh....one more thing: What is the first thing you do in the morning & the last thing you do at night? U P ! Did that one crack you UP? Don't screw UP. Send this on to everyone you look UP in your address book..or not...it's UP to you. Now I'll shut UP
  9. It went to a good home.It will get a complete makeover this winter. The new owner is a painter and has some {SPECIAL} plans for it.
  10. Had a bike show for boy scouts with special needs. It sure was great!! the boys had a ball. We were introduced and we each told about our bikes and talked with the boys. One is a picture of a hand made Moto by Mike Porter. I'm the one with the Santa beard, yes its that time of the year again for Santa. http://s219.photobucket.com/albums/cc231/TEW47/ tew47:thumbsup2:
  11. I am going to put new 90 degree valve stems on the front and rear of my 06 midnight star venture.....Do they take a special size........And where is a good place to get them....Thanks in advance
  12. One of these things could very well extend riding time for a few more years... POP OUT TRAILER #280570875607 Not a toy hauler, but very nice KOA special....
  13. First, a special thanks to eusa1 (mike) for sending me a tank badge, I'm not sure which side it is for, as I have not yet received it, but if anyone has another laying around, I'm interested. Here is the bike, a 2008 with 6K on it.
  14. today i was out for a small ride on the bike. well turns out its the toys for tots ride today in and around my town. no i wasent in it. i was just out for a ride. i spotted a little girl selling kool aid on the road the bikes where going down.. of course they couldnt stop. planned route and police leading the way.. so i went around the block and pulled in to the parking lot next to where this girl was selling her koolaid.. i took off my helmet walked over and said how,s it going little one. she said MR biker sir. i have not sold any.i said how much i will take a large glass she said sir its 50 cents. i said i will take 2. she said 2 why 2? i said one for you and one for me. i gave her my dollar. and talked to her some more. then she began to cry.. i said why you crying? she said sir my mommy was crying today. its the first time i saw my mommy cry. i said oh . she said yes my mommy told me she lost her job yesterday and things are going to be hard for us but we will make it through. so i told mommy i will help. and she helped me set up this stand. i thought with all the bikers comming through i could make some money.. see every sunday mommy would take me to mcdonalds for a happy meal. its our special girls day out. and i wanted to give santa my list this year. well that brought a hard lump to my throat. so i thanked her and said im sure santa will know. about your mommy and things will work out. then off i went. i drove straight up to mcdonalds and got 20 dollars in gift coupons. i never thought twice about it. i went back. to see the girl and her mom putting away the stand. i asked her mom to come over and i said to her and her daughter. santa sent this as a early present. and he would like you to call this special number to give him her list.. its a number to a friend of mine in the marine corps toys for children. he said he will make it a special request for this child. so this child now has at least one special day at mcdonalds with her mommy. and soon will have a nice christmas when it comes. like i said best koolaid i ever had ..
  15. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170517128098&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT Just browsing E-Bay again. I was going to order from Earl soon but what ya think of this one. You can answer too Earl, I know I will get a good honest answer and you know a little more than I about these things. Another one is All State Batteries here in my back yard claimes they have a Glass- Mat now for around a hundred bucks and I know a guy that gets a discount there. "Ugly's" battery a wally-world special has never acted as it should. I know cables would do wonders for her. Brown sugar has a Allstate that is very strong. How old is it Skid? I think couple of yrs.
  16. Saw this bike at A&M Cycles in Amarillo. They do a lot of my work. Enjoy.
  17. Maintenance Day is ALMOST over. Everybody is gone now except for Rick and Linda Butler and they are leaving early Monday morning. I just want to say a couple of things and I'll try to keep it short. I LOVE the jacket and will cherish it forever. I was somewhat at a loss for words and to be honest, a bit embarrassed about finding myself a little choked up. If I COULD have talked, I would have said this. I want you all to know that what I feel about all of you and what this organization is NOT any pride that I have accomplished something beyond my biggest dream. I feel no arrogance, no conceit, no feeling that I am anybody special. What I feel is truly honored that you have made me a part of your lives. I am honored that so many of you have chosen to be a part of this group and very humbled that you all take the time to participate whether it be by attending this event or any of our others, by your participation here, however you choose to be a part of VentureRiders. I don't feel that I am doing anything special for YOU.....I feel that YOU are doing something special for ME by being a part of something much larger than myself. I wish I could better express in words how I feel about all of you but just know that you are a special and very important part of my life and I thank you for that. Now...I'll say it again. If you have never taken the time to attend a VentureRider event, whether it be my Maintenance Day, our International Rally or any of the other rallies, meet and eats, etc....you just absolutely do NOT know what you are missing. Please take the time to do so whenever you can. As for Maintenance Day...this one is now over but we are already thinking about, planning for and looking forward to Maintenance Day 2011. I'll post a date as soon as I can and hope that many more of you can work it into your schedules. Not sure what the count was this year. I know that I received one report that they counted 152 bikes and there is seldom ever a time when some are not out riding for one reason or another. I know that there were more than 200 people. Now I've told Eileen that I think we are about at the maximum that will show up. So..............let's shoot for at least 250 next year...but ... uh.....shhhhhhhhhhhh.....she might here me.
  18. Others have said it so well. The club and the forum and MD are all just plain special and I want to add my own personal thanks to Don and Eileen for all the obvious work to make MD so uniquely special. It is great to get to continue to meet members, especially at an event such as this. Also want to say that all the help from so many for my tire change job was enormously appreciated. Here are a few more pictures of this great event, starting with our rendezvous at bongobob's.
  19. Rotella T6 FULL Synthetic. I understand this is now within the specs of the Yamaha Warranty and can now be used on the Venture. So my questions are: (1) How many of you have used the Rotella T6? (2) If you are getting it at Walmart, what OIL FILTER are you getting there? (3) Are there ANY special considerations when changing the oil. It looks pretty straight forward...1 draing plug, and one oil filter. Thanks. Wally
  20. Saddly looks like I will be dropping out of going to Freebirds, even had the time booked off. However both my Birthday and Fathers day fall in that time frame and my five kids have made plans for me which I am told I cannot refuse. Not that anyone would ever want to refuse when their Kids want to do something special for them. It actually makes me feel very special. I will miss meeting all the people I have yet to meet and re-meeting all the ones I have already met. For those that are going I hope the weather is great and you all have a good time. Most of all stay safe.
