  1. So now that I have Ed-sets and have put some foam behind the helmet speakers,,, the music is awesome,,,, I actually listen to some of my tunes on my GPS. Seems everything good brings along something else to deal with. It's either I'm going deaf or Marca hears too well,,,, I think it's the later,,,,, either way, when I turn on the music she says it's a way too loud and so when I get it where she's happy, I can hardly hear it. So what I need now is a volume control that will fit the 5 pin cord that 83's to 85's come with. Is there such a thing?

hey i was up in the dixon amboy area sunday. i was on the maxim. i pulled into a parking lot where the roof had hawkings or something like that on it. when a verry nice looking red and i think silver? second gen yamaha went by? gave one hell of a honk sounded like a air horn. then waved and went on its way. just wondering if it was you?. this was around 1:30? and i must say there sure is some nice country in that area. then i headed back home around 2:30 back through mendota and home. nice ride. for a lazy sunday. i hope by friday i can do it on the venture. shes almost done.
  3. She is a terror....I think she is part Tazmanian devil ...If you don't believe me... I'll send her to your house for a weekend of demolition....lol...But shes a keeper.....
  4. :bawling: She ran fine on the way to work Wednesday, but when I left she was running like crap. Found the number 3 cylinder has no spark. Probably lost a coil. Took it to the shop in FDL tonight after work. They said they'll check it out right away and get parts ordered and should have it back sometime next week. While they're at it, I told them about the back shock not dampening much anymore. Hopefully we'll get that covered too. Not too bad though. 64,360 miles in 4 and a half years and this is the first warranty work she's needed. While she's in there, I'm going to pay them $250 to do the valve adjustment. Hopefully she'll be good to go for the rest of the summer. Later, Scooter Bob NOT
  5. OK, my 15 y.o. daughter has distroyed 2 'el cheepo' LG AT&T freebe cell phones. The first was just barely replaced under warantee, but now the warantee has expired and the second is hanging on by a thread. She's a texting machine. I've looked at Ebay, but don't trust the sellers. She's also not eligible for some type of phone upgrade until next november thru AT&T. I don't know squat about all these new gizmo cells available on the market, and wonder if anyone could suggest a model that won't break the bank, and that's good to use with texting??? HELP.....!!!
  6. well last night i was in a mad rush to find that last gift. so i ran to the mall about a half hour before closing time. pouring down rain and chilly outside. at closeing time i headed out the door as they where locking down the mall. i started walking to my car which is parked in the handicap spot. when i see this poor teenage girl crying her eyes out. i asked her whats wrong? she told me that shes at least a half hour late getting home and she cant get into her moms car that shes driving? and shes soaked from head to toe. of course being a teenager shes not properly dressed for the weather. she said im going to be in big trouble and be grounded for at least a month this is my second time i will be late getting home this month. my cellphone is locked in the car so i cant call my mom and i dont have a father or no one to come help me. i said well lets see why you cant get in the car? she said i keep hitting the remote button to unlock the car but its not working? i didnt say a thing i gave her my coat told her put it on. then i gave her my cellphone and said call your mom. tell her what happend and a nice man is going to open your doors and you will be home in just a little while. it was the same type of car as mine a pontiac grandprix. and she was standing on the passenger side. i didnt want to make fun of her so while she was talking to her mom i took her keys went over to the drivers side as these type of cars have only one door lock on the drivers side. i placed the key in the lock and opened her door. started her car and said your good to go. she said hey my mom wants to talk to you and thank you. i took my cellphone and my coat and talked to her mom explained what i did and that just because the battery died in the remote dont mean you cant get into the car. so when your daughter gets home show her what i did. she just laughed and laughed and said she sure takes after her mom where both blonde. boy did that make my day
  7. hello every one. does any one know anything about these bikes. my next door neighbor is moving to AZ luck sob. well he has 4 bikes and said to me. i just cant take them all. then said theres a old yamaha maxim. 750cc. that i just dont want to take. it has 22.000 miles on it. has not been run in over 8 years. he made me a offer i could not refuse. he said its yours!! just go down to the dmv with me today. pay the transfer. and get new plates. i said damn its a deal. i got a fair looking bike for around $135.00 its now sitting next to my venture. ok seeing as it hasent been running for 8 years when my knee heals. im going to work on this bike as a possible bike for the girlfriend. its a low seat bike. . and shes short. i opened the gas cap and phewwwwwww. the varnish smell knocked me over LOL. i am not going to atempt to start this bike. with out draining the tank. the carb bowls. the fuel filter and maybe the petcock? and theres some rust around the inside of the tank. maybe cream it? all in all it looks like a good starter bike for her. shes going to take the motorcycle safety course. she does know how to operate dirt bikes so i think she will do just fine.
  8. A couple of weeks ago, my wife wrote off her bike hitting a car, on the way to work. She sheared off one crash bar completely, broke off and split the floor board in half from the other side, bent the frame and forks, broke off the front turn signals, dented the tank, exhaust and broke the windshield. The mustang seat and chrome side covers and the back of the bike were untouched. Other than the multiple bruises, pulled muscles, split lip and a damaged helmet; she is so fortunate to be here. The only thing she remembers right after the accident is this old Indian guy with a turban standing over her lying on the pavement, knocking on her helmet asking, "lady...are you ok?", over and over again. By the time the ambulance got there, she said the stars and spins were gone and she could see straight once again. She was then checked out by the paramedics and refused to get into the ambulance to go to the hospital? Stubborn as a mule! Instead she got a ride and hobbled in to our family doctor and the chiropractor to be checked out. When she phoned me at work and told me what had happened; she then asked if I could buy her a new one? I could have easily been a widower if it was His choice and she's asking me for a new bike? I guess it just wasn't her time? I'm proud of her for riding a bike, and I thank God she's still here in one piece with no permanent damage. I guess I'll just use the old one for parts? Anyone have an 07, 08 or 09, Suzuki C90 for sale?
  9. Everything's changed since March... Did a job with 160 ATMs to reprogram in GA, AL, and CA and squeezed in 3 weeks in FL including Daytona Bike Week and a few days in the Keys where me and my Bro partied like it was 1978 and did some snorkeling out on the Coral Reef.. I also did a day at The Laughlin River Run but it was 105 and no shade trees and the heat was starting to get to me and got to Leesburg Bikefest on the same weekend.. Anyways while riding through the desert on a bike with no name.. I did some soul searching and asked God to show me a sign that he exists... I get home and the Ol'Lady tells me she's moving to NH and that she wants a Divorce after 25 years (she's been talkin about it for like 3 years) ... I said "Yes!!! there is a God!!!" (I even went to church today for the 1st time in a long time) Then... I meet this hot sexy little 43 yo nurse down in NH.. Well you get the idea... Let's just say she restored my faith in womanhood and I now know that all women are not evil... Some are actually quite sweet... Ok I also dropped a lot of weight... I used to be 333 (or maybe that's as high as my scale went) and I'm down to 259 and shooting for 210 and I've cleaned up my act some... I'm also a happier person (some people here will be glad to hear that... ulessed there so pissed at me they won't even read this)... and other than a Stevie Wonder blind joke that rubbed me the wrong way (especially while or Founder is dealing with a potential loss of sight)... I think I've been pretty chilled here... For the record Stevie played at my High School in 1974 when I was a Junior during school we had an assembly and there was Stevie and a piano playing "Very Supersticious" and about 10 other songs and it was awesome... I wasn't even a big SW fan at the time but I was amazed a guy could be so talented while overcoming a handicap that I'm glad I don't have... Needless to say I became a big fan.. Well if anyone's still reading this drivel.. I've met some good people on this site and look forward to seeing them again... At the risk of sounding too cornball like some of the threads I poke fun at... Disclaimer: The above thread reflects the opinion of the poster and your results may vary. Other use without the proper express written consent herein whearas should not be removed under panalty of law... Hey lemme know if I need some more disclaimers and I'll call a credit card lawyer and he can write me a book. Later,
  10. My girlfriend is finally looking for a bike of her own... and she's not making it easy. Not only is she on a pretty limited budget at this point (around the $3K mark), she's also more vertically challenged than I am. At only 5" tall, there aren't a slew of options to choose from. However, on a trip to the local dealer, she sat on a used Buell Blast. Not only did she look pretty good on it, she could flat foot it. I'm not sure if it was the low-profile seat or the standard. Now this morning, there is a 2001 Blast for sale locally on Craigslist for $2,000. We're going to get in touch with the guy and find out when we can come take a look at it. If the bike is in good shape, the price is below Blue Book. I just don't know anything about them. I think a 500cc is a good place to start, as I hate to see her start on a 250 Rebel or the like. She's already taken the beginner's course and has her license, so she's not starting from scratch. Does anyone know if they're reliable bikes or not, for the most part? I do a Google serach, and of course, you always find a ton of negatives, but not so many positives. That's the only problem I have with most internet forums. Most people don't use them unless they want to complain, or need help with a problem. Seldom do they get on to brag about how great their bike is. Know what I mean? So any pro's or con's out there from anyone? Even if you know a guy who knows a guy that owns one, that's more than I've got. Thanks for any thoughts.
  11. Here are my two. http://home.powergate.ca/~lah/pix/DSC00281-600.jpg Still working on Red's bodywork but she's coming along well. Hope this is of interest. Cheers. Brian H.
  12. Well, here I go again. I had so much fun fixing my brake issue...that now I'd like to tackle my rough starting problem. My bike is an 83'. She's got 60,000+ miles on her, but she's been pretty well taken care of. I'm the 3rd owner. My problem is, she's a pistle to get started cold! I mean I've actually had to start using my car to jump her. Now, she has a new battery as of the fall of 2008. I keep it on a trickle charge when I'm not riding. But she just doesn't seem to want to start any more. Again, last fall I put in new plugs and wires. I was thinking that maybe I need a carb job or something. I've run seafoam through her for the past couple of fillups. Still she starts rough. I can't seem to work out when to choke her and when not to. If I give her a lot of choke she won't start at all. In the middle, sometimes she'll start. Less choke, she sometimes starts easier. Mostly it seems to start when I apply full choke, try to start, and fail, then switch to less choke and try again. But again, I need to use the car to jump it. All the connecting on the battery terminal seem to be clean. I check the connection at the starter. That looks good too. Oh, and when it does start, is seems to be putting out volts with the stater. Around 16 or so by the dash board meter. Once I've got her running and she warms up she does pretty well. Good exceleration. Plenty of power. Idles well. Maybe a little rough here and there. I mean I know she could be better...but what do I do? Should I mod the battery cables? Rebuild the carbs? Get a new tune up? Take her to a shop? I don't know. Looking for advice in Ohio. Thanks
  13. My wife just bought a 99,650 V-Star, her hands are small and the clutch does not release until the very end.Im wondering if I missed some kind of ajustment or is it something shes just going to have to live with.By the way this is her first bike and she is very protective of it.

    83 wow

Went riding with a friend who has a 1500 wing Wednesday and my new to me 83 venture amazed me again. Was merging onto the e-way with my friend right behind me and as I got on the e-way I gave it just a little more throttle and BOOM I was gone. I guess the best way to describe it, it was like opening up a nitrous bottle at 70mph. When we got off the e-way and stopped my friend looks at me and asks, what was that? I'm right with you and then you were just gone. Well on the way back I'm doing about 60 and decide to slowly roll on the throttle and see what it does. Just like before I get to "the sweet spot" and bam shes gone. Revs jumps up, massive power, and shes just flying. Is this how all these 1st gens run? Still grinning ear to ear just thinking about it.
  15. ....Lonna that is. She and her daughter are on their way to Houston as her mother fainted and is in the hospital. Seems she might have suffered a stroke, she's anemic and is recieving blood transfusions. Lonna talked with her this morning and she was pretty cohereant. Unfortunately I could not join her as someone has to make money to pay for it, but she's rolling. Right now she's in Indianapolis at DanOB11's for the evening and will spend the night with Dan and Rose, tomorrow she's on her way further down to who know's where I'd like to thank Dan and Rose for their hospitality and keeping my baby safe and with friends. I think that she will make it to hopefully Little Rock Arkansas and stay somewhere in that area tomorrow night and then on to Houston on Thursday. I know our Houston members will make her feel right at home. So if you see a crazy little redhead with her 30 YO blonde daughter in a Burgundy Buick Rainier with Michigan plates on some south bound Interstate, honk and wave.
  16. You folks our west know her, but since hdhtr moved to NC we hadn't had the privilege of meeting his Mrs. He's been to plenty of meets but she never makes them. So some might have thought either she didn't exist or maybe just maybe he was keeping her locked away some where. Well I found out she's real and here's the proof. Now some of you may just recognize that tarp Steve is on well I have it now. So Squid if you end up mailing the dirt let me know so I can send the tarp too. Margaret
  17. Poor Northerner, I had him shaken in his shoes when I stripped his bike down. He told me he was nervous seeing his bike all torn down. One day of maintenance will take Northerner 3 days to recover:rotf::rotf:. She's back together and ready to ride. Great day all around. Pic http://www.venturerider.org/forum/album.php?albumid=298
  18. Met a rare person yesterday, she came all the way to Brantford to see me, she laughs, talks, walks, hugs and is real. She good looking, pleasant personality, has some good comebacks, and hangs with an awesome guy. Too bad you all won't get to meet her on the weekend. Her name is MARY, and she's not contrary, fact is, she's real nice, or did I say that already. No she's not my new wife, Marca is still with me (don't know why) she came with GaryN. I just think he wanted to show her off to somebody important (why did he pick me?) man,,,,,, I could have scared her off for good. All said,,, what I said is true and I'm looking forward to see more of those two this summer,,,by the way, she likes to ride.
  19. How kids grow so quickly I remember taking her when she was 4 and sitting in front of me on the tank of the Honda 750 nighthawks doing 85 mph and saying to me Faster Faster She's not into Bikes Boats or fishing now Just Taking care of The 4 legged creatures
  20. Well as many of you know my wife aka MOM had total hip replacement about 2 months ago. She is up and around and thinking she is indestructable LMAO. Shes back to work and riding her little scooter all over town. Shes doing pretty good. AND she quit smoking! Even better! I have made up another site with trip pics, trip stories, mom's random photography, rants, biker products ( I have gotten a ton of stuff from businesses wanting me to write reviews for the Magazine) etc...Its a work in progress. BE WARNED: IF YOU ARE THE OVERLY SENSITVE TYPE YOU SHOULD AVOID THE SITE! http://vikingwarhorse.webs.com/ Its just me being me.
  21. The Pirate Ship pulls out another one. First place in Touring over a bunch of Harleys and Wings. She's 2 for 2 now.
  22. Next storm up is Hana evidently she's coming to the east coast. She's gonna hit anywhere from FL to NC. Guess we'll wait and see where she goes, and how big she gets. Behind her comes Ike and Josephine. Getting busy for the next few weeks. Don't ya just love hurricane season? Nope me either. Margaret
  23. Well wifey had her hip replacement yesterday. Doc said everthing looks real good. So far she isnt in too much pain....so far. Today they are gonna get her up and walking. Guess we will see how that goes. The staff where she is at has been great. The only thing she was worried about was that she had to have a spinal. She said it wasnt too bad. But shes an animal..."Not too bad" for her would drop most folks. LOL. I stayed the night with her and just ran home to shower and feed the dogs. Now I gotta strap the walker ( which she doesnt like HAHHA) to the back of the bike and motor back to the Orthapedic center where she is. I will keep ya posted.
  24. I saw 3 Ventures riding towards the east in Virginia in the rain last Thursday and was wondering who it was! The rigs where very nice, my wife saw the trailers and now she's got it on our "things to get" list. Kenw
  25. I added a sissy bar to Jan's bike this last week. She's happy!! We've ordered a pack to go it as well.
