  1. So i called my nearest ymaha shop to get a new front tire. they asked what bike and year and after they looked up the tire they had service set up a time to install it. they again asked what bike and year. so all was good. the tire came in today and when i talked to service they said oh we dont work on any bike older then a 2000 even just to install a tire that they said they would when i ordered the tire? I was pissed but they had already charged my card when they ordered it. they mount it but if i bring in the wheel though.
  2. I would like to give a big public "Thank You" to Squidley. I asked around for info on RK muffler brackets and he had a set for me. Top quality in service and craftsmanship. Thanks Squidley!!!!!
  3. A little bit of a long story, but avoid or be very careful with Carlock Powersports in Jackson TN. At least when we raised he** with the manager he made them do it close to right. While we were at the bikefest, the back tire dwindled quicker than expected so... Off to Jacksonville, TN to find another. Ended up at Carlock Powersports (The local Yamaha/Kaw dealer) A. The didn't have the right size rear AT ALL. B They only had the Bricks. After being told by the parts dept. that they had nothing, I asked one of the other workers out front if there was anyone else that might have a tire (Had already checked Honda and Harley shops) At least this guy realized that we need a tire BAD. He says surely we have something close enough! so, back in we go. Found a 130/90-15 (close enough at this point) Service guy asks what bike and I told him a 06 TD, he says it will be $70 to mount it - (YEAH, we're off!). Pulled around, he looks at the bike and says Oh, that will be $140 to mount. They knew we were from out of town, they could see by looking that we NEEDED the tire and decided they would get some extra to go play. I argued with him for a bit, he went to the service manager and came back and said it was a hard tire to change due to shaft drive and all(Guess other 06 TD's aren't shaft with bags) and it would be 120. I told him straight out that he was gouging me :headache:and my normal guy charges $55. But go ahead since we gotta have it. We then went and found the manager and told him they were gouging us since our guy can do it in 45 minutes and this places labor rate is $80/hr. Manager at least went back and checked, then came back and said well, they should have said it may take a couple of hours and he was sorry they didn't make it clear but they would charge the hourly rate. (I had already clocked them when they started. Took the guy 45 mins - they still charged $89. But at least it wasn't $120. I told the service kid that he needed to learn how to explain to customers that the hourly rate is X and we think it will take this long but may be up to that long and the charge MIGHT be Y. He didn't seem to care. I know, will get rid of that 130 Brick ASAP:8:. Forgot how noisy those suckers are, at least it does have tread and does stick to the road. You would think that a dealer would welcome someone from out of town and try to be gracious and show a little compassion for someone stuck on the road. Got back to bikefest and someone else told us you really have to watch them, they like to charge outragous prices and take a really long time to do simple stuff. Other than that - the people of Jackson and Lexington(especially) are VERY NICE people and a great bunch. The bikefest was to raise money for the battered childrens shelter and they do a great job.

    TSB's?

Anyone know where I can find Technical Service Bulletins for our bikes?
  5. I have been searching the site for "Service Bulletin" and "I Basket" but I cannot find the service bulletin number for the infamous clutch scream. My RSV is at the dealer for tires (My new Venoms!) and service. The I Basket was new to them. I can't blame them they sell 2 of these a year. He said he will gladly take care of it but he cannot locate a service bulletin about this. I know I have seen the number here. Can anyone help me with that? Please and Thank You!
  6. Folks I just want to take this time to praise those who deserve it. I recently (read last Monday) decided to buy a backrest for my '08. I looked at both the Utopia and the Diamond R, I went with the Diamond R and I am so happy that I did. I know you folks hear of us praising certain vendors that offer us great products or service. Let me tell you that Diamond R does both. I ordered online and then later that morning talked with Patty on the phone. She was very pleasant to chat with and had told me that she had already packaged up my backrest and was going to ship it the same day I ordered it! I recieved it from Texas to Michigan by Thursday 3 days...it don't get much better than that folks. Lonna and I went to Bummers M&E south of Indy this weekend and I can tell you that my back was a much happier part of me. If you are looking for a backrest, please check out what Allan & Patty have to offer. Their products are top quality and the customer service is stellar....I highly recommend them to all of our members
  7. Does anyone know if official Technical Service Bulletins are available to review? I know that they are available for dealers and their mechanics, but I doubt that they would make them generally available for their customers to view. It just seems that considering with how readily information is these days, someone must have a database of these TSBs on-line. I figure that it couldn't hurt to be familiar with potential problems which might arise at some time in the future. Thanks! Pete.
  8. I had my bike towed over to Motion last week to get a flat fixed. On my way there I called to find out what the labor would be and was told $64. When I arrived there the service manager came outside and wrote down the mileage and VIN. I confirmed with him that the labor was $64. When I went to pick it up later that day they tried to charge me $100 for the labor. When I asked why they said because the bike had hard bags on it. This didn't seem to be an issue when I dropped it off. The clearly saw that the bike had bags then. So anyways I went back to the service manager and he started blaming it on the new guy, even though he is the one that gave me the price. After telling him several times I wasn't paying the higher price he finally said "it’s been a long day, what do you want the ticket to be?" I added it up for him and paid the $64 labor. In short if you get any service there make sure to get the cost in writing when drop it off. I don't know why they would try to pull something like that but they lost at 3 three customer's business. My dad, my brother and myself. My brother bought his bike. I noticed they were allot friendlier when you are handing them a check for $9 grand.
  9. We were on a ride Saturday and my MM RSV when I had battery problems. We were 100 mi from home in Mission Veijo. Got AAA towed to Mission Motorsports in Irvine. The guy at the service counter got the battery tester out and checked the battery even tho they were busy. Battery was toast so he got the part number and walked me over to the parts counter and got me set up with the new battery before he went back to the service dept. Very friendly and helpful staff all around. Finished the ride no problems. Now I just have to see if I have a charging problem. Rod
  10. What auction snipe service do you use for Ebay? Mine is a free on line service (nothing to download no fee's) but I only get 3 free snipes per week. Is there anything better without a subscription?
  11. I don't usually have much time to post but I need to let you all know about Long Island Yamaha. Last month I was on a two week business trip in Long Island, New York. On Monday morning of the second week, as I left the motel for work, my 06 RSMV stopped running. I was pretty sure it was the fuel pump, having had a problem with it once before, at home in Pittsburgh. I called the 800 number and was told that YamaMama would cover the first $50 in towing and $100 per day for trip interruption but they wanted me to tell them were to take it. After getting a ride to the office I looked on the internet for a dealer to call. I was 400 miles from home and needed to leave at the end of the week. I explained the situation to the service manager as well as my previous experiance and why I felt it was the fuel pump. He said he could take the bike but would not be able to look at it for a week. I called another dealer and the guy that answered the phone said to bring it in and they would try to look at it the next day. It was their long day. BTW, the towing company said I had to be there to help load the bike on the tilt-bed. My wife had been waiting with the key but she couln'nt help load the bike. I got a ride back to the motel and waited an hour for the guy to show up. He said he usually just strapped the bikes down by the handle bars. I told him he couldn't do that and he just looked at me. Fortunately, I carry a set of slings just in case. So much for experienced motorcycle haulers. Anyway, the bike was dropped of at about 2:30pm and Bill, the service manager said he would take a look at it and let me know. At 3:45 he called me to say it would be ready if I wanted to pick it up before 5:00. It was in fact the fuel pump. He had taken one off of the 08 that was on the showroom floor so I didn't have to wait for a new one from Yamaha. I cancelled the rental car I had just reserved and got a ride back to the dealer. That is truly great customer service! Long Island Kawasaki - Yamaha 67 North Broadway Hicksville, NY 11801 516-935-6969 http://www.likawasaki.com/
  12. I just bought my new 2007 Venture on June 3rd. I have only 800 miles on it and love it! I previously had a 1998 Harley Electra Glide I put 87,000 miles on it before I sold it, the only problem I EVER had was a bad starter clutch at 15,000 miles. I'm starting to get a little concerned as I read about the multitude of problems posted in the forum and I'm hoping that I didn't make a mistake buying the Venture. I have always liked Yamaha products i.e. atv's, dirt bikes. My first bike was a 1000 Virago. I liked the way the Venture looked and I couldn't bring myself to pay $20,000 for a new Harley. Now at only 800 miles my Venture is in for the dreaded "rear end clicking" and head gasket leak(not leaking yet, want to have the head bolts tightened). I have been dealing with the same dealership (Pete's Cycle Co. in Baltimore) for over 20years now and they have never let me down so I'm not concerned about their ability, but you can't blame them if a bike is poorly engineered. When I walked in the service department and started describing my 2 problems I didn't even get to finish, the service manager said "we know about the problems". He even showed me copies of the technical service bullitens. I don't mean to sound needy but can someone convince me, honestly, that I made the right choice? Keeping my fingers crossed, but it's hard to ride like that.
  13. Just thought I'd comment on a ride that took place yesterday (Sun) to the Vietnam Memorial on the river front here in Windsor, this wall lists the names of Canadians killed in that war fighting with the US forces. The parade of motorcycles was made up of many differerant chapters and veteran organizations from Ontario and Michigan. We left from RCL branch 594 with an estimated 150 or so bikes and rode to the river with police escort, once there a service was held and 3 more names added to the list, it was very emotional especially for some of the families of those named, wreaths were laid in tribute to the fallen along with a rifle salute and Taps. There was one USM sgt there in full dress uniform who took part in the ceremony and believe me it was a hot day he must have been cooking (he also rode a bike). After the service many went back to the legion for a BBQ and also to get a good look at the Michigan mobile wall which was set up in the hall. It was sad to see the many, many names of men just from that one state. I don't know if there were any members from this site that attended, I only found out about it on Saturday night so I didn't get chance to post it earlier, I'll certainly be going again next year and will post it sooner. God bless all our troops where ever they may be.
  14. Hi - Is anyone on this forum familiar with any quality and trustworthy dealer/independent Yamaha service provider in an around Fredericksburg, VA? I can go North towards Woodbridge, South towards Spotsy or West towards Culpepper. Thank very much in advance, TTW
  15. At one point I know there was a service manual on-line here for the 83-85 Ventures. Can't seem to find it now. Is it still here someplace Thanks
  16. I was washing my 05 and saw that the radiator cowling did not meet properly with the other one. Upon closer inspection I found that the tab was broken on the bottom, (right side). I have never had this cowling off. Is this something that needs to come off if you service the air filter? I have let the shop do the servicing since I got the bike. The bike was serviced last week, (June 11), and I sure did not see this when I washed and inspected the bike just prior to that. They checked the valves and did a full service on the bike, so was thinking they may have taken it off. Was going to ask them about it, but decided to ask here first, then go to them if it looks like it was their fault. Dennis, from Montana temporarily in New Mexico
  17. Most of you have read my previous threads regarding the rear end problems with my bike. At 28,298 miles a factory rep, this was the second time, was sent from Titusville, Fl and put the 5th rear end in my bike. He also put a new swing arm, drive shaft, replaced all bearings, and installed a new rear diff. I took it easy on the bike riding only one up until 33,000 miles. Memorial day my wife and I left on friday morning and rode to Nachez, Ms and came home monday. We rode 1450 miles and the bike was perfect. I was so happy because I thought the problems with my bike were over. Tuesday morning I stared out of my driveway to ride to the office and I heard the rear end clicking and grinding. Monday I called yamaha customer service and told them about my problem and told them I had been patient but it is obvious there is something wrong with my bike and I want yamaha to exchange my bike for another one. They said they would pull the service records and talk to the district service manager, Jim Coddington, in Atlanta and also talke to Ron, the factory rep from florida. They said they would call me back tuesday and asked where the bike was. I told them it was at my home but I would have it at Tallahassee Powersports first thing tuesday morning. I asked the service write up person to check out the rear end and to call me if there were any problems with the rear end. Yamaha never called me but this morning the service manager at Tallahassee Powersports called and asked what he was supposed to do with my bike. I told him and he said he would drive it and call me back. He called this afternoon and said he didn't get out of the parking lot and heard the noise from the rear end and said there was no need to go into it because he knew that noise was the same he had heard with the other 5 rear ends went out. He also said yamaha called him and told him to order another rear end and install it. He told them there was need to waste any more time and money doing that because it hadn't worked the other 5 times and there had to be something wrong with my bike. Yamaha then told him they were sending Al Hatcher, another factory rep, to look at the bike. The bad news is it will be two weeks before Al can get to Tallahassee. I met Al last year at the Myrtle Beach rally at the star exhibit. I talked to Al and when I told him I had a 05 RSV and was from Albany, Ga he knew about my problems immediately. He said there had several discussions about my bike within the service rep circles. I called yamaha afterwards and told them I had been very patient and waiting two weeks wasn't exceptable. The customer service rep said that was all they were going to do. I asked her to get me to the next level of service reps and she put me on hold and came back and said that was all they were going to do. I told her I would get with an attorney and see if I could take legal action. She said don't you threaten me. I told her it wasn't a threat that it was a fact. I knew there wasn't any need to get my self upset and argue with someone with no authority. She did say that when the factory rep comes by in two weeks, that after his inspection they will decide whether to exchange bikes or try to repair my bike again. In the past I have bragged about yamaha standing by me and never backing up when it came to repairing my bike but never again. I will spend the next two weeks deciding on whether to get a gold wing or ultra classic.

    Log Gas Mileage

I went from 38/40 MPG to 23 MPG after my 600 mile service. Can anyone tell me what the problem is,?
  19. So the other day when I was swapping out my Intake Manifolds I came across two "Air Vent Hoses" as they are called in the service manual. They came off the shafts liking the carbs and ran under the gas tank to the front fairings. Here's where it get disturbed. The hoses terminated inside the fairing. They were just sort of 'tucked in' there with no cap or plug or filter. That just seems very odd to me given the engineering labyrinth the intake system has turned out to be that the engineers would not have somehow protected these tubes from taking in dust or whatnot. So I have two questions for you wise, knowledgeable and good-hearted folk: 1. Are the vent hoses supposed to go to nowhere? 2. WTF O? (for those who have never been around military folk, that means "What the F#!k, Over? It may not make sense to you at first if you've never heard it, but say it a dozen times and it begins to feel natural) I've attached a scan of the page of the service manual. The entire manual appears to make no further mention of these tubes again. thanks in advance!! DJC
  20. On Tuesday the 25th, there will be a memorial service to celebrate the life of Greg Darling. The service will be at 4pm in Roswell Ga, with visitation with the family from 3pm. I talked to his wife, Valerie, and told her I intend to ride to the service. She said "Thank you. Greg would like that, and no suits, wear your riding gear and bring your helmet in with you!" I intend to leave my house at about 3:15 for a leisurely ride to the service, arriving about 3:40. I would love for any of you in the area that can make it to join me. I think we could stop for a bite to eat after. Dragonrider has said that he will be here and I believe Blackjack and Fly-N-Lo might make it as well. If you would like to join us and would like my address for your GPS, or directions for your 2D Nav, just give me a call or PM me. 21. and a dollar short............. Someone was asking about road service programs a while back. I use Motorcycle Towing Service (MTS). The rate is very reasonable. The benefits are exceptional. And they offer the cold climate package for folks living in the frozen wastelands of the country. Coverage includes, the US, Canada, Hawaii and Pôrto Rico. They also have arranges discount rates with several motel chains and auto rental agencies. As I say, at least for me, the services and benefits offered for the price are excellent. You can check them out at www.mts-towing.com
  22. I don't know how often I'll be able to check in today. We got slammed with an ice storm and it took my internet out. I have a wireless service at home and apparently the transmitter on top of the tower somewhere is encased in ice and has my service shut down. They couldn't tell me how long. They can't get up the towner to clear the ice. So...I'm sitting in the car now in town where I could get a WIFI signal to check my messages. I'll check in when I can but if you have a problem, please understand that I may not reply as quick as I usually do. My mother in law's funeral is tomorrow so I'll be pretty much tied up tomorrow also. Step father's funeral was yesterday in Texas. I didn't make it but my brother has reported that all went as well as can be expected. Thanks to all of you for the condolences.

    First Gen shaft maint

Hey Folks. Need a little advice. Have the wheels off my 89 for tires and am doing the related maintenance and lubrication, fuel filter etc. Question is, at 44k should I remove the drive shaft and take a look, at u joint, lube etc. I have searched this site, the internet and my manual and cannot find any factory recommended service interval, which tells me this is not an issue for an enclosed unit like this. Also what is the recomended service interval for the u-joint. I may be overlooking this info somewhere, but just don't seem to be able to find it at my age anymore, know what I mean?
  24. I recently installed progressive fork springs on my 91 VR. Now I have a fork seal starting to leak. It's making a puddle on the garage floor. Is this common? I'm probably going to have my dealer put in the new seals. The service manager is very VR savi. Any advice? Is there anything else I should have done while they're in there?.
  25. OK guys I know this is not about bikes but I need some help. I have a 96 F150 that I bought with 70,000 miles on it could not find out about trans service done ever. So now it has 154,000 and i have been told for years not to service tranny because it could start slipping, And I had a 78 diesel F250 That I changed thefluid in the same circumstance ,and it started slipping. So I'm in a quandary on what to do. Any thoughts?.....Fred
