  1. Hello all. When I flew out of Guam in the 90s we always had a flyaway kit in the belly in case we broke down somewhere downrange. It included common items to get you back to home base without having to wait for parts, or get them from JAL, ANA, EVA etc. at a much higher price. Mechanics were abundant, parts not so much. The time is approaching for me to put this thing on the road, and I don't mean the 40 mile test rides I've been doing. I mean like you gen-you-wine over-the-road guys and gals. Getting older I'm not as Venture-ous or Venture-some as I once was, but if I'm not gonna ride long-haul... So with that in mind, I'd like to get an idea what y'all have in your flyaway kits. Tools, parts, fluids, BLTs. Was gonna post in the Watering Hole but more interested in 1st gen-specific stuff. But any info is appreciated. Richard
  2. Heard about a vet running across country to raise money to send a LST back to France for D-Day celebration in 2019. He is currently east of Hobbs NM in west Texas. From what I read he has to catch rides back to his RV when he is done with his daily rides. If any of your are along his route might be a neat thing to get involved with. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Coast...51518878297515
  3. In two days I've clocked 888 miles for the new year, I'm going riding tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday. the bike rides like a New Bike. I'm loving it.....
  4. Doing the Tail probably Monday of next week and also the Moonshine 28. Are there any must see areas around there? Going with my in-laws, basically no plans other than those two rides but we have the whole week to play around. Any suggestions?
  5. only five days to go. looks like we will have a crowd. looking forward to seeing all our good friends once again. lets see if we can out do last year. we had a blast. looks like buddy and coles grampa have some great rides planned, and alot of good eaten. linda decided she did'nt want to miss it, and has the bags packed already.
  6. I just got a text message from a member named John with a SC phone number that is stuck in Kalispell, MT with light isues. He has no acess to WiFi or a way to contact this site. Is there someone up that can call him at 843-251-7789 and see if you can help him figure out his light problem. I'm waiting for more info from him as to his handle and what bike he rides. Let my know if you reach him. Mike
  7. Now that the International is behind me, gonna pack up taters and do a little riding today...We missed all the rides at the rally so we're gonna get them all in today............all of them:biker:
  8. Following state website has several rides that are good. http://www.arkansas.com/outdoors/motorcycling/hot-spots/
  9. Just wanted to thank all the committee members of the 2012 for putting on a great rally so far. Don & I are having a great time. We are thankful to be here with everyone. I know the hard work involved in planning something like this and just wanted to take a minute to say thanks BIG TOM & all your hard working crew!!! Niagara Falls was awesome yesterday. The rides have been great so far. Pioneer motorsports have gone above & beyond in their hospitality for us. Can't wait for another day of fun & adventure. :clap2::clap2:
  10. Hi folks, I have a 97 Tour Deluxe. I am looking for a decent and affordable highway bar soloution. The ones on my bike are real small and don't look like they are set up well for a set of pegs. Any Ideas? Just looking to be able to get comfy on the longer rides. Speaking of which, anyone had any luck with some kind of a seat cushion? My rear does not seam to be able to hang in there like it used too...
  11. Myself, my brother, and 3 friends are riding from NYC to Catskill village and back tmrw and any and all are welcome to join us! Not sure what the best place to post up these rides is! Meeting at the first gas station on palisades parkway right over the George Washington Bridge 7:15 AM. Come one come all! Kickstands up 7:30

  13. I was trying to think of a way to see parts of Saskatchewan I hadnt seen before, and to have an excuse for a ride. Its almost the size of Texas so there is a lot of ground to cover. So, I went thru a list of towns and cities in the province and saw some fun town names and thought i should visit these places just because of their names. Big Beaver about 2 1/2 hours sw Climax about 4 hours Sw Smuts about 3 1/2 hours N Fertile about 3 1/2 hours SE Sucker River about 7 hours N Sound like interesting rides? LOL :rotfl:
  14. Heading up to the Lake Ozark, MO area at the end of the month...looking for scenic rides to take while there. Appreciate any input.
  15. Don't need to get jealous now,,,, we all do our own thing,, that makes us different and as the old saying goes: It's nice to be the same, But great to be different.
  16. Was woundering if Gold Wingers have a site like this? A friend i work with has a Gold Wing and was looking for some tips on tunning it and was looking for some help, was telling him about this wounderful site that the VENTURE RIDES have wanted to know if there was one for WINGERS as well were he could get some help. Thanks
  17. Just got back from a local PGR mission, while I was there, another PGR member walked up and introduced himself to me, and said he noticed my VR patch and asked if I rode a Venture, as he did, he is also a fairly new member here. His name is Matt, aka Doppler. He rides a very nice 89, that has only 27,000 miles on it, not even close to being broken in. Going back at 2:30 to continue the mission for the visitation. Capt. Nicholas Whitlock, USAF. Another fallen hero.
  18. Thought some might be interested in this rally in Athens, TX. If I hear about a group of VR riders coming I will set up some good rides for the VR Group. Mavrick
  19. To all of y'all here in Texas. I am back and looking for some rides and good times. So chime in and let me know what's happening. Thanks
  20. Got up today - it was six degrees (42 F)!!! It's STILL six degrees with a high of only 17 (63 F). Ugh. Guess most of our long day rides are over - as soon as it goes below 10 degrees (50 F), I'm way too cold to go on the bike any distance. May look into heated gear next year. Short rides are okay, under an hour max but all day rides? Can't handle it at all even with multiple layers and lots of leather. This summer was WAY too short.
  21. Two years ago, Don gave rides to a couple of older ladies... THIS year...he's still giving rides to ladies. However, they are getting much younger now... What do you think?
  22. We love to go for rides with others but it's not always easy to hook up and arrange things. If anyone would be interested in going for a ride with us this weekend, let me know - phone and email are in my profile or just post here. By the way, I'm 46 and Mike's 43. We like to stop for breaks, have meals, enjoy the scenery. We will NOT be taking the highways. We will NOT be speeding more than 10 km over the posted limit (Mike drives for a living, ticket's not worth it). We go for rides for fun, not a speed race. (Had to say it, so many around here seem to love to ZOOOOM and we don't ) We don't smoke but I generally like to stop every hour to two hours max for at least 20 mins to a half hour. I am a morning person, though, so I like to get going early and be back by suppertime so we can feed our dogs though it's not written in stone!! We're considering leaving here around 8:30 tomorrow morning from Dartmouth then to Windsor to Berwick to Chester Basin and back, cutting through on the Aylesford Road. If anyone wants to come, let us know!!! ALL WELCOME!! WEATHER PERMITTING, of course. Here's the route: Map: http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=43+Smallwood+Avenue,+Dartmouth,+Nova+Scotia&daddr=Berwick,+Nova+Scotia+to:Aylesford+Road,+Aylesford,+NS+B0P+1C0+(Fox+Mountain+Camping+Park)+to:44.9354618,-64.7129805+to:Franey+Corner,+Nova+Scotia+to:New+Ross,+Nova+Scotia+to:Chester+Basin,+Nova+Scotia+to:44.63474,-63.66345+to:43+Smallwood+Avenue,+Dartmouth,+Nova+Scotia&geocode=FYQnqgIdix03_CnjnjS7TCRaSzF2q5K2f1ZTfw%3BFf1erwIdMjUk_CklPJOktFxYSzGcsoJT1TCJ4w%3BFQKzrQIduoEk_CFYo0Fa-YNw-Q%3BFSWprQId7I4k_Ck7LDoIO0ZYSzGZQf8JYyFT_w%3BFTR7qgIdVEgl_Ck9_psIvDJYSzHzjpqRfFG1ig%3BFfahqgIdNXgo_CmJmAsG0c5ZSzEVkpLkcUswYw%3BFTsAqAIdLbsq_ClFAxhBj9xZSzG3zNNMOZKJsA%3BFXQSqQIdppI0_Cn3CMW90yFaSzEjMdSGFCgaTg%3BFYQnqgIdix03_CnjnjS7TCRaSzF2q5K2f1ZTfw&hl=en&mra=ls&via=3,7&dirflg=h&sll=44.72332,-64.690247&sspn=1.313325,2.425232&vpsrc=0&ie=UTF8&ll=44.8325,-64.151917&spn=1.310844,2.425232&z=9
  23. Hello all riders headed to Vogel! The wife and I live and ride all the back country roads around Vogel and would like to see if anyone would be interested in having someone local take them on tour. I had taken a few with me on rides last Vogel and had great responses. I would like to keep the group no larger than five bikes for saftey. A couple of ideas for rides. Wed. ride up to Murphy then over to the Hiawasse Dam and back to Vogel. Thur. ride to Suches, up Hwy 180 then Hwy 60 to Morganton then to Mineral Bluff, Copper Hill, TN Hwy 58 up to Telico Plains Grap a subway sandwich and take it up to Bald River Falls to have a picnic. Then ride over the Cherohala Skyway into Robbinsville. Then ride over to Hwy 28 South toward Natahalla River Gorge. Ride thru the river gorge and over the Wayhla Rd to US64 toward Hayesville, NC back to Vogel. Fri. I would call it the Waterfalls ride. Taking backroads up to Hayesville, NC taking US64 all the way over to Brevard, NC up Hwy 256 and then the Blue Ridge Parkway back to Balsam, NC then US Hwy 74 . Note able we should see at least six waterfalls and make it to the highest point on the blue ridge parkway some 6,052 feet if I recall. Sat could just be a small figure eight around the Vogel, Helen, Hiawasse, Suches Area. Back in time to have a great lunch with everyone. Lets us know what you think. We sould be over by 11:00 A.M. on Wed. Sooner if need be. Thanks to the wonderful people on this site. Be safe and hope to meet some new friends & see some old ones. Brian & Sherrie Shoemaker
  24. Is there a way of searching our member listing by region/state? I live in the Pacific Northwest and would like to make contact with other members who live here for possible rides or events.
  25. If you can go to the calendar and can add what rides (rock city, ice cream run, train ride etc.) to your name ,it would be a big help...also if you plan to go to the hearth on Saturday for lunch...now ,if you are going on the rock city ride you wont be there for the hearth lunch... thanks for taking the time to do this......It make things easier for those planning the rides and to make sure we have enough for the group rates....
