  1. I just started my bike ('01 RSV) and gas started running all over the floor. I pulled the lower cowls off and it's coming from the tube (vent?) that ends at the top of the cowl. There's one on each side (the right one is spewing). It looks like these tubes come from a plate between the front carbs. I've only had the RSV a month, so I haven't ever torn into it yet; just trying to get a clue before I pull the tank/seat etc. Stuck float? Thanks!
  2. Good afternoon. I am in a frenzy. This question is about my 88 VR. I just did the Barnett upgrade of my clutch and it went so smoothly I was figuring I did something wrong. Well apparently something is wrong cause now I can't pull the clutch lever. I followed the steps from HDHTR in the tech guide to the letter and even took the old plates apart one by one and laid them off to the side in the order I took them out. After removing the boss wire and taking out the last friction plate and steel plate I inspected the basket for burrs and it was in good shape so I began reassembly. Put in the first friction plate, the 16321, and then the first steel plate and then installed the boss wire, and proceeded to install the plate in alternating order, friction, steel, friction, until I was out of new friction plates and all the steel plates had been used up too coating each plate in oil as I went. After installing the Barnett conversion and torqueing the bolts to 8 ft lbs I tried to pull in the clutch lever and I can not pull it in. There is space between the Barnett and the last friction plate I installed and I can move the plates in and out by hand. When I torqued the bolts I had to hold the Barnett to keep it from spinning. It acts as if teh clutch is disengaged but the lever isn't pull in. So I put it all back together and jacked it up with my HF jack and started the motor and put it into gear and there was nothing, like I said as if the clutch lever was pulled in. The reason I did this conversion is that when I went for a ride weekend before last the clutch started slipping in the upper gears so I wanted to get it replaced before it got too bad. I also might add that I replaced all of the bleeder valves with speed bleeders and purged all of the lines. I thought maybe the clutch has an air blockage causing the slave cylinder to be activeated so I took the speed bleeder completely out hoping it would relieve the pressure but that didn't work either. So now I am looking for any and all help I can get. Do I need to replace the clutch slave cylinder now and if so I haven't been able to find the procedure for doing that in my seaches. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as I really don't want to have to take it to the stealer to find the problem.
  3. I just bought a set of Kevlar friction plates from a Barnett dealer for my 86 VR XVZ13. When I received the plates two things confuse me. The shop manual shows index dots on the basket and index notches on the plates. These Barnett plates have no index notches on single longer tab per plate. Do I not have to concern myself with indexing or is something wrong with the plates.? The other confusing thing is there are two green colored plates, one for either end of the clutch pack. One green plate is just as wide as all the other plates except it is green. The other plate is also green but is narrow compared to the others. Any idea which one is inboard and which is the outboard plate. Barnett is silent on the subject and no help on their web site. Apparentlythey don't answer email questions. The dealer is equally silent. Both refer me back to the manual. And back at looking for index tabs, no mention of one narrow plate in the manual either. Thanks for any wisdom.
  4. OK, I am not a LEA, but got this from a friend, It looks like if you are legal you have no problem but don't be a car thief in B.C. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_a4c9NUn3M]YouTube - Automatic License Plate Recognition - RCMP Canada[/ame]
  5. I won this used License Plate Holder with Lights (Item# 170318869042) and I am wondering if there is an LED lamp available bright enough for the application (68230-97b). What would be the color of the wire I should be looking for inside the license plate holder area to connect to the assembly? Is this a straight bolt on? Tips please.
  6. I got a new rear tire for my 87 xvz1300. before putting it back together I realized the splines on the wheel were shot and the splines on the outward plate aren't much better. I figured no problemo I've got one on the 84 xvz1200 parts bike that I'll just swap out. Guess what, the wheel spline gear would work but the differentials are differant. The outer spline plates have differant bolt patterns. So, now I'm in need of either an entire final gear drive differential or just the outer plate if anyone has one they've dissected already. (86 and Up 1st gen XVZ1300). If any one has got one laying around they don't need and don't mind giving a fellow member a hand send me a PM. let me know what you want for it.

  8. I just installed a Barnett pressure plate on my '05 RSTD. I followed the instructions (which were cryptic at best), looked at Freebird's stuff, too. But obviously I've done something obviously wrong. The clutch won't engage at all now. I can pull in the lever (which doesn't feel right) pop it into 1st, and nothing happens. So the first question is: What did I do wrong? The second questions is: Why do I try to do things like this??? Any help with the first question would really be appreciated!
  9. I just want to see if there is any interest in this. A friend was over the house to help me with my RSV today. While looking over the bike he thought he might be able to make some polished aluminum wind deflectors for the front forks at a reasonable price. I have some diamond plate too but im not too sure if diamond plate would go over well. Since he has a CNC router its possible to add a design into it too. If there is enough interest we will use my bike as a guinea pig and make a set and post photos. Soooo, any interest?
  10. Well i went and done it. I pulled the clutch cover and removed seven friction plates. It appears that the last plate and disc are held in by some sort of retaining ring does anyone know how to remove them. Also i thought i was paying closer attention but i noticed one friction plate has a single square mark instead of the two circular notches like the rest. If any one knows where its supossed to be located this would be helpful. Any help would be great as i only want to pull it once and do it right the first time.
  11. And it was a bit chilly at 35* out. I brought the battery up out of the basement and put it back in. Put the new HC plate on so I can quite getting so much harrassment from the campus security. Boy I'm glad I finally found a Dr. who actually READS my medical files. Anyway, after I got the battery in and the plate on, I just couldn't help myself. I shot a little gas down each carb and hit the start button, and it fired right up. Then it died. Started again, and died. Did this a few times till I got the choke just right and it stayed running till it warmed up good. I took it out the highway and back through town down main street. I got a lot of weird looks from some cagers for some reason. It was a chilly short ride, but it was a good feeling. It's supposed to be somewhere around 50* the middle of next week. I can't wait!
  12. I just Installed my new chrome wheels and tires on the trailer,I also made a cover for my spare tire from some diamond plate I had in the garage.I also added a rt.66 sign to the old cooler just for looks.Jerry M
  13. I have been seeing a little coolant on the engine. This is on a 1st gen 1992 model. I see some under the bike, usually the next day after it has been riden. There is a small hole(I suppose it is a drain or something on the side of the head). The hole is under the plate on the side on the cylinder block. It looks like some has drained under the plate. It nevers does it while it's hot, or when I look at it for that matter. Beside the spark plug there is a large allen head bolt. From looking at the parts break down, there are o'rings in there somewhere. Anyone ever seen this before or had to replace these o'rings. Anything special I need to know before taking out this plug?
  14. Many thanks to Riderduke who came down to my house this evening and helped me repair my clutch. We upgraded to the PCW spring and pressure plate. Took her for a test ride and she is back normal now. Thanks again Duke.

  16. Hi to all, Just received my cassette deck but having trouble sliding it into place? I removed it with the face plate on but won't go back in. Trying hard not to break dash. Screaming Red:think:
  17. looking for the kind that clamps to the handlebar and has 1 or 2 swivels with a mounting plate or whatever to mount my XM radio.... someone got a link for where I can get one of these? Thanks
  18. Have you read the new Full Throttle article regarding Concerned Bikers Association's lobbying efforts to provide a helmet optional clause? It's a 3 tiered endorsement with fines and fees enclosed, including a $75.00 experienced rider validation fee annually for a special stamp to be placed on your plate so that police know you have paid to be stupid.... strike that, have paid and chosen not to wear a helmet. Among many things about this proposal...how many motorcycles do you own?.. times $75.00. I guess CBA feels that covering state hands in money will buy them the "freedom" to not wear a helmet Novice rider validation fee is a special one - time motorcycle endorsement fee of $10.00 for each plate issued. It's craziness. Let's talk. Brandy
  19. So the manual says you can use a torque wrench to torque it to spec. Well I tried it and there isn't enough room between the oil filter and the plate you bolt the rectifier too (even though the picture in the manual shows differently). If the plate was moved maybe 2-3" to the left, it would line up. How do you tighten your oil filter? Do you worry about torquing it to spec? I just used one of those rubber strap things and once the oil filter wouldn't move anymore I stopped trying to tighten it. I didn't want to dent it in any way.
  20. It's becoming evident to me that my clutch is needing some repair. It has lasted 53,000 miles, and now it will slip if I get into the gas even moderately hard. Is all that's happened here for the clutch to slip that the spring has gotten weak? For a stock rebuild, assuming the steel plates and friction discs are still usable, is it basically just replacing the spring with a new one? I've never been into a motorcycle clutch, or a clutch on any other vehicle either. So referring to TT's clutch article, I have a few questions. The upgrade consists of what parts, exactly, the heavier PCW spring and a full size plate in the back? Is the Barnett pressure plate a part of the upgrade, or is it a same as stock replacement? How do I know if the pressure plate needs replacing?

    recalls

took the 07 in today for service today and some warranty work on the boot that is between the cab and intake. They told me there was 2 recalls on my bike 1. head gaskets 2. plate under trunk. has anyone heard anything about these recalls.
  22. Would anyone have the face plate for a lst Edition Class controller? To define this clearer, the one I have works fine but the glass plate is seriously cracked and the face plastics is awfully gouged from who knows what. Anyway, all I need is the cover or face plate. I can remove all the interior working stuff, and reinstall it into another serviceable faceplate, that is if anyone has one and is willling to part with it. I will pay $$$. Just make known what you need for this part. Thanks so much,
  23. On Saturday, 9-20-08, it was once again time to mount up on the steel pony and gallop about the area roads. We met up with one of the couples we ride with, Duane and Dawn, at the Exxon gas station on Hwy. 72 in Gurley, Alabama at 8:45 a.m. This was a perfect spot to watch the Trail of Tears riders before heading east to find whatever adventure awaited us this day. The first Trail of Tears riders came through at about 9:15, with an Alabama State Trooper motorcycle escort leading the way. This years’ group was much smaller than in years past, possibly partly due to the overcast and drizzle, but mostly due to the fact that the Trail was broken into two factions and two separate routes this year. One followed the original Trail of Tears route through Alabama down Hwy. 72, while the other took Hwy. 64 across Tennessee, then down to Florence, AL, and on into Waterloo. The main group of riders had passed within about 30 minutes, and once they passed we saddled up and headed east on Hwy. 72 towards Scottsboro. http://s37.photobucket.com/albums/e82/BamaVulcan04/2008%20Trail%20of%20Tears/ Once into Scottsboro, we headed south on State Hwy. 35, across the B.B. Comer bridge, and up Sand Mountain towards the town of Section, AL. The overcast skies, light off-and-on drizzle, and wind made for a cool time once we reached the top of Sand Mountain, so we stopped in Section for a cup of coffee. From there, we continued on through Powell’s Crossroads and into Rainsville, Alabama. Since it was approaching 11:00 a.m. and we were beginning to think of lunch, we decided to head west on State Highway 75 towards Fyffe, the home of Barry’s BBQ, which were had heard was one of the best BBQ spots in this particular section of Alabama. Another memeber here also had told me it was a good place to eat. It’s a family owned and operated place that is actually on the family’s farm. Once into Fyffe, we stopped and got directions to Barry’s. When we arrived, it looked like a typical neatly kept house on an area farm from the road, except for the small sign that read “Barry’s B-B-Q” with an arrow pointing towards the farmhouse. But once we turned in, we could see that they had a great set up for some fine down home eatin’. The smell of meat smoking permeated the air. We were greeted by a friendly lady with a big smile on her face. “How ya’ll doing? We don’t open for business ‘til noon, but ya’ll park your bikes and come on over and have a seat. Won’t be much longer now. Where ya’ll from anyhow?” she asked. We took her up on the offer, and mosied on over to the back patio and sat down. All the while, the sweet smell of the BBQ was making us more hungry by the second. Finally, at noon, we were able to enter the block building that housed the treasures we so anticipated. The aromas were almost more than we could tolerate, and everything on the menu looked absolutely fantastic. For lunch, they offered a pulled pork BBQ plate, a smoked ham plate, a broasted chicken plate, a chicken liver plate, and a fried catfish plate – each served with your choice of two side orders – baked beans, cole slaw, potato salad, or french fries, and a slice of thick bread. For desert, they offered homemade vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry ice cream, or homemade peach cobbler. Duane and I got the pulled pork plate, while the wives settled for the smoked ham plates. When our plates arrive, they were overloaded with food. None of us could eat all that was on our plates. Needless to say, we all thoroughly enjoyed our lunch, but unfortunately had no room left for the tempting deserts. The entire cost of this fantastic lunch was $14.50 per couple, and I have to say, it was worth twice that much! BamaVulcan04/Barrys BBQ - Page 1 - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Feeling like hogs that had been fattened for slaughter, we somehow managed to mount the bikes and head back towards Rainsville, where we took a right on Hwy. 35 and headed south towards Fort Payne. Yep - Fort Payne, Alabama – once know as “The Sock Capitol of the World” and the home of the famous country music group ALABAMA. Just for grins and giggles, and to give the buns a little rest and walk off some of the fine food we had previously ingested, we stopped in at the Fort Payne Power Sports shop to look around for a bit. They had a beautiful candy red 2008 Yamaha V Star 1100 with only 2300 miles on it that really caught my eye. The original owner was a friend of the dealer, and he had purchased it back in April with the intention of using it as a work commuter. She was definitely a beauty with lots of extra chrome added by the original owner. I really had to practice some self control to keep from buying that sweet little ride and adding her as a second bike! After leaving the bike shop, we headed up Lookout Mountain on County Road 89 about five miles to DeSoto Falls, located in DeSoto State Park, which is in the Little River Canyon National Preserve. Indian Falls is located just below the A.A. Miller Dam, and DeSoto Falls is a 100 ft. waterfall located just below Indian Falls. It is a beautiful place, and being there one can only imagine how the Native Americans must have enjoyed it’s beauty and bounties – water, fish and wildlife - as they lived there years ago, much as if it were their own personal Garden of Eden. BamaVulcan04/DeSoto Falls 2008 - Page 1 - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting After about 45 minutes of enjoying the serene beauty, we again mounted our horses of steel and headed down the back side of Lookout Mountain into Hammondville, Alabama and back through Fort Payne. We headed south on US 11 towards Collinsville. From there, we took Hwy. 68 west through Albertville and on into Guntersville, Alabama. Once in Guntersville, we stopped to see the Antique and Hot Rod Car Show they were holding downtown. Dawn’s parents were there with their 1940 Ford Coupe which he had entered in the show. In my opinion, it was the sweetest street rod there, and there were some nice vehicles, for sure. BamaVulcan04/Guntersville Hot Rod Show 2008 - Page 1 - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting After visiting with Dawn’s parents and walking around the car show for almost an hour, it was time to head north over Grant Mountain to Hwy. 72 and point the ponies west for the 45 minute ride back home. As we rumbled west, the sun was setting and the air had a definite chill of the oncoming fall. Another wonderful day of riding the bike, navigating the back roads, seeing the sites, eating good food, and sharing some good times with friends was done. Man, I already can’t wait until the next ride!
  24. I'm back again looking for the best help....I just bought a Arlen Ness license plate frame with LED lighting for brake and taillight. I saw Free Birds wiring for extra lights which is great but was wondering if I can hook right into wiring that is just above tail light on 08 RSTD. until I get to the colder months and have more down time. Thanks Kelly
