    RSTD Passenger Handles

I have a '07 RSTD and I want to increase the safety for my daughter when she rides with me. I like the grab handles on the RSV, however the back of the handles mount under the trunk, which the RSTD doesn't have. Is there a similar handle set that mount only to the chrome fender strips available for the RSTD?
  2. Is the RSV windshield flat enough to use the suction cup mount for my Zumo? Thanks! James
  3. I take my radio antenna off so I can put my cover on the bike and have a nice place to tuck it away. Well of course this morning I forget to put it back on and for some reason did not play radio all day. I get home and go to put cover on and no antenna anywhere. So I just need the antenna itself and not the mount. So if anyone has one please PM me with a price. My zip code is 48506 for shipping...Thanks.
  4. I was looking at JCWhitney and found these highway boards http://www.jcwhitney.com/Floorboards/GP_2002565_N_111+10211+600014704_10111.jcw?currentRecordCount=12 the live chat lady claims that the horizontal mount for the bracket is due to bracket design??? That seems like a bunch of compost. Anybody seen these, use these or have an opinion on? And yes they be pricey!! I am looking to mount something like this on the vertical support for the engine guard since that would allow for better angling and will provide the requisite offset to clear the fairing and still be able to plant your feet. ('course cheaper would be nice) Thanks.
  5. Built new trailer this winter. Still have to mount onto frame and test it out...
  6. So I bought the firestik and a mount. I'm sure this sounds retarded but how do I connect the wire? Thanks!http://www.kilik.com/antenna1.jpghttp://www.kilik.com/antenna2.jpg
  7. I posted this yesterday on the RSTD section and thought i would share it here as well. I have been searching for a detachable tour pak for my 07 RSMTD for 6 months - i've seen several attempts here on VR - but none that i really liked. A friend & I spent about 8 hrs. in the shop today laying out the template for a detachable tour pak. we finished the template (poster board) for a detachable mount and our next step is to fab it out of light sheet metal to confirm fit. next we will take the template to our local laser cutter to have the real detachable mount cut (.0125 steel). We have a friend in Fla. making & shipping the 'U' 1" round tube which mounts to the bottom of the tour pak and to the top of our detachable mount - most likely will not use the 'U' tube, rather just mount the tour pak directly to my mount, with a thin rubber mat sandwiched between the two for vibration dampening. picked up some docking hardware and ordered keyed locking mechanisms (to lock tour pak to mount). i believe my detachable mount should be usable for the tour pak of your choice. This is going to be a real sweet setup when done. Once this project is complete i intend to post pics of the procedure to install hardware and pics of the finished product. If there are any interested RSTD'er who might have an interest in the product, let me know ( i know this is a little premature considering i have no finished pics to post yet ). i am hoping to have this project done over the course of several weeks - this will be a first class mounting kit with or without the actual tour pak - i'll keep everyone posted. I expect that some might ask if this detachable system will work on RSV and honestly i don't know anything about the RSV, perhaps others who have much more knowledge of the similarities and differences between the bike could shed some light. here are a few pic of the prototype mocked up from poster board. http://i44.tinypic.com/imhrol.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/12517h5.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/34edenc.jpg http://i44.tinypic.com/1q60e8.jpg
  8. I'm in the middle of installing my factory passing lamp mount and ran into a snag. I've just attached the passing lamps themselves to the mount and now I'm in the process of attaching the turn signals, problem is, I can't make the connection because of the rubber sleeve. Is this supposed to be removed before installation? Or is there a way to wrestle it on properly? (took a lot of twisting and pulling to remove the signals from the original bar in the first place) Bluez
  9. Hi All Im looking for a full right hand dash panel. My CLASS is no longer and would like to mount some things there. I have a 83 VR thanks tom
  10. Major kudos to Garmin! In Oct. bought a refurb. Garmin Streetpilot 2720 off the web. Had one year factory warranty. Been using it off and on in the cage. Friday after work, I decided to mount the GPS it permantly and hardwire it in. (Bought mount and used directions I got from the good folks here!) Long story short, after finishing it all, hooked it up only to find out the power connector on the back of the unit broke. Damn, only two weeks to Bike Week. Friday I called and they're tech support was only open to 6pm EDT. Damn Damn! Sent an e-mail, hoping to hear back by Monday. By Friday night at 9p, I recieved a return e-mail about a return authorization! Mailed it Sat. morning, Garmin got it Monday Morning, and got it back today!!!They didn't repair it, just replaced the WHOLE unit. Even copied the data from mine to the new unit! Itd soo nice to do business with a company that does its best to please its customers! Hoping if anyone is on the fence about buying one, I would wholeheartily recommend Garmin!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. After reading recent posts about mounting gauges it got me to thinking more about mounting a water temperature gauge. I wanted to do something that could mount from the handlebars via a RAM mount. I've spent a little time today and visited some local parts stores and online sites and I think I may have found a solution. It was recommended that I use a marine gauage because they are sealed better. I found a web site that has everything I think I need except the actual RAM mount. Marine Water Temp http://www.egauges.com/vdo_ind.asp?Type=Elec_Engine_Temp&Series=Chr_Ultra_Mar&PN=ATM-200762-35 Sender http://www.egauges.com/vdo_indS.asp?Sender=ATM_95_Temp&PN=ATM-2258 Adapter http://www.egauges.com/vdo_indA.asp?PN=R7965 Housing http://www.egauges.com/vdo_indA.asp?PN=CD1200-52 I welcome your opinions on this before I place my order. 12. Hey all, I recently came across a good deal on a used heated vest from a friend. I have been looking for a heat-troller from warm&safe. I'd rather not use the belt pouch or semi mounts if at all possible, but I'm not quite sure where to mount it to the bike. I've got an 07' RSTD. Anyone out there have any suggestions on placement? Thanks. Bjmstar82
  13. So I'm in the process of installing a hitch on my bike. The pictures show how far we had to tear it down to put the thing on, and amazingly from start to finish it only took a couple hours. Our next step is to do the wiring, which is a really sweet deal because it's all plug and play - minus the actual trailer coupler of course. I have to say, Bustech did a top-notch job with their wiring setup and installation instructions. The trailer I have is equipped with electric brakes. I, along with the guy helping me do the install, was hoping to find a brake controller that could be mounted both vertically, and NOT parallel to the direction of travel. Well, vertical mounting isn't a problem, I just have to pay a little extra for a nicer unit, but it seems every controller I find has to be mounted parallel to the direction of travel. Makes sense I guess, since most of the nicer ones are inertia based. The reason we were trying to be so picky is that on the right side of my fairing, on top of what would be thought of as the gas tank, is a "glove box". That's where on these bikes they install the CD player and radio that I opted not to buy. It's weatherproof, accessible from the saddle, and fairly good size. However, I don't believe it's wide enough to mount a brake controller without sticking it in there sideways. So chances are I'm going to have to mount it somewhere else, in a weatherproof case. So does anyone have any recommendations on a good, compact brake controller, or any thoughts on mounting? (I know that latter will be hard since most of you probably aren't familiar with my bike.) At first I was thinking some sort of flat, radar-detector type, mount on the handlebars, but i don't know if the extra motion from the bars will screw up the sensors in the controller.
  14. I've heard that the wheels on the Harbor Freight motorcycle dolly are too small and need replaced... since they bottom mount, bigger wheels means higher unit... but have some of you come across a better wheel to mount (PN?)? http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/photos/95800-95899/95896.gif http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=95896
  15. Need suggestions, advice, or here's how I did it's on where to mount an aux power socket (cigerette Lighter type plug) on an 07 RSTD. Want to wire up and mount something near the handle bars to charge cell phone, power gps etc. Prefer the economical route (have looked at the nice $100 handlebar mounts, but I want to do something that'll cost a bit less.) Any ideas, suggestions, pics???
  16. Well, After looking everywhere for a good way to mount a set of passing lamps on my first gens this is what I came up with. While in the garage looking at my wifes gs 650g , I noticed that the windshied brackets might just work for this project. You know, the kind for the universal mount type shields. I guess I was actually onto something this time. They look great and are very adjustable, up, down in out and side to side. I hope this helps someone elce, any questions let me know if i can help. Best regards. Kurt
  17. Kuryakyn adjustable cruise peg mount 4549, Foot board mounted. Listed for all road star and v-star 1100 models. Drill to mount. Kuryakyn Stiletto Footpegs 4476. Engine guards are flimsy, I'm 5'8'', so the foot board mount works best for me. The assembly is infinitely adjustable. Moves your feet away from the motor heat. No problems with clearance to the vents or brake/shift leavers. I like them. http://gallery.me.com/k1oj/100048/IMG_0300/web.jpg?ver=12319880000001 http://gallery.me.com/k1oj/100048/IMG_0295/web.jpg?ver=12319880220001 http://gallery.me.com/k1oj/100048/IMG_0296/web.jpg?ver=12319880270001 http://gallery.me.com/k1oj/100048/IMG_0298/web.jpg?ver=12319880370001 http://gallery.me.com/k1oj/100048/IMG_0299/web.jpg?ver=12319880120001

  20. looking for the kind that clamps to the handlebar and has 1 or 2 swivels with a mounting plate or whatever to mount my XM radio.... someone got a link for where I can get one of these? Thanks
  21. I know there are som ham radio operators here, how many of you have sucessfully mounted your gear to the bike? What mobile radios work well for on the road DX'ing? or even good old 2meter chatter? also what brands do you use for an antenna and how did you mount it? It seems that Diamond does not make any of their no ground plane antennas for 10 meters or 6 meters anymore... what do you use?
  22. After seeing a huge difference in what my dealer wants to sell a pair of tires for and what I can buy them for through Dennis Kirk and others I was wondering if there is anyone out there who does their own tire changes, and if so what you use for tools and irons to break the bead and mount the tire. Also I can't remember if the colored dot goes with the valve stem or opposite it. Now some will counter with "buy the tire and have him mount it". $50 to do each tire if I supply, $16 when buying his. I have changed 2 and 3 pc. truck rims and I have even done a couple of tubless 24" truck tires. I am concerned about damaging the rim with pry bars on the motorcycles.
  23. I want to mount my GPS and Sirius and I have reviewed the Ram mounts that come highly recommended in the post and they are nice, but it seems to be too much stuff on the bars. I wanted to make use it the dash space where the front speakers are. Is anyone using the speaker vents to mount Sirius or GPS? I have seen vent mount for use in the cage. Is anyone making use of that method? Thanks, Bug
  24. OK folks I have read just about everything I can find on the forum here (and several others) and seen a few of the mods that folks have done to lower and stretch out the passenger floorboards/pegs. Perhaps with a consolidated effort we can master this and come up with something we can all use. Sooooo - let's limit this conversation to a "custom fix/fabrication" and stay away from recommending the Diamond R etc. It seems most of those do not drop the position just lengthens it. Here is how Boe did it on an '06 RSTD: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=23575&highlight=passenger+highway+pegs And here is how Jercoupe did his mod: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=16960 And according to another post I read we can use peg mounts from a Road Star - since the mounting has not changed. If this is so - then we should be able to use this Kury adapter: (attached below) With this attachment - we should be able to mount this on the back of the stock mount (maybe a spacer or two) and then attach a Kury longhorn offset with a peg - and retain the original floorboard. (This is the first picture attachment - I decided not to go this way) Whatcha think? OK - let 'er rip - let's solve this issue once-and-for-all so that we can all benefit with lower pegs/floorboards Shep Information added 10/11/08 OK folks - I decided to go with Jercoupe's modification with a few "slight" changes. The main change being that I decided to weld my 1/4 in angle-iron "onto" the existing passenger bracket. (I thought it might have a little more strength this way and allow me to use slightly shorter bolts to put everything back together. I am going to try and give a step-by-step of what I have done so far. (And I want to say "Thanks" to those who have gone before me on this mod - really they have done most of the engineering.) 1. I bought a 3' piece of 1/4" 2X2 angle iron from Lowe's - Home Depot didn't have it. You won't use it all - but that was the shortest piece I could find. 2. I cut 4 pieces off the end at 3 1/2 inches long. (you will need 2 for each bracket) 3. Next I drilled 2ea - 5/8 in holes - 2 inches on center on one side of the angle iron. Keep these holes as close to the top as you can. This will allow more at the bottom of the bracket to but up against the frame for rigidity. (remember you will need to do this for 2 brackets.) 4. This one might be a little hard to explain - There is a U-shaped bracket that comes with your Longhorn clamps. The bolt that holds the clamps on goes through the clamp first - then this U-shaped bracket and this bracket is what keeps the peg from turning. (Picture attached) a. The edge of this has to be trimmed off to fit over the edge of the 1/4 angle-iron where the peg will mount. (check out Jercoupe's mod above - he has a good picture of this. 5. Once this bracket and the corner of the angle-iron is "form fitted" to each other you can drill the hole in the corner of this piece of angle-iron. No guess work here - because the bracket gives you the location of the hole. 6. Now you are ready to weld the two pieces together. (Picture included) 7. Now you have some grinding to do to get those welds flat. (You must do this before your next step of welding your new bracket to the old one or you will not be able to reach the weld between them. 8. Slip new bracket with the 2 5/8 in. holes over the old floorboard bracket and weld together. (It helps to "round out the tops" of the new bracket holes to allow for the welds on the old bracket so it will set flush better. (No turning back now:Laugh:) Now you are ready to "fit" everything" together as a dry-run: 9. Bold up the Longhorn and its peg first (leave loose for adjustment). 10. I bought new metric bolts 1/2 in longer to mount the entire bracket to the frame. 11. You will need spacers between your new "system" and the frame - this allows the bottom of your new bracket to hit the frame at the bottom and also keep your mount - tight at the top. I just slipped a couple of larger nuts over the bolts for the dry run. But have since bought spacers. 12. Everything should bolt up well and as you can tell from the pictures - this adds a new variable passenger position with about a 5 1/2 in drop. (If you need more forward as well as the drop - just slide the botton angle-iron piece more to the front of the bike before you weld them together. Will add more as I make the other side and smooth them all out for paint. Shep
