1. The day was just too nice and the VR was rockin. I got home 120 miles later! Looking outside, today looks pretty good too. hmmmmm...I need more gas http://www.raymondstacy.com/vr.jpg
2. Yesterday after mowing my yard, I thought I'd take a short ride and cool off. I hadn't had a chance to ride my '83 VR in a few days so I dicided to take it instead of my 1100. After about 20 miles, I was getting ready to head home. I was going to stop and fill up with gas before I went home. I showed 84 miles on that tank of gas and my fuel gauge showed 2 bars. About a mile from the store I was going to stop at to full up, I notice the bike slowing down. I gave it some throtle and nothing happened. I pulled off the side of the road. I tried to start it again but no luck. I checked to make sure I hadn't hit the kill switch and it was on. Everything electrical seemed to be working and it turned over fine. The only thing I could think of was that it was out of gas. I called a friend and he brought me a gallon of gas. After pouring it in, I cranked on it for a couple of minutes and it started. When I stopped to put gas in, it only held 1.9 gals. So I know it hadn't run out of gas. I rode the rest of the way home, about 10 miles and everything seemed fine. I really don't know what happened. I don't think it was an electrical problem because as I was trying to start it, it sounded like it would after running out of gas. It would try to hit severl times until it finally picked up the fuel and started. Is it possible that I had some trash in the tank that plugged the fuel pick-up?
3. Can't leave until Monday morning but the bike is cleaned, trailer cleaned, tire pressures checked, I am ready to get on the road. Just got in from a little ride just around the countryside here. Only about 75 miles or so but it sure felt good. Had a hard time moving the bike at first. Cobwebs and etc. had it tied to the garage floor.
4. I found a Kumho while visiting my Bro in Kissimmee, FL... I had to pay $82 for it but this will be my 3rd Kumho and should be good for 20,000 miles... http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/tires/kumho/size/submitZipCode.do?ar=80&rd=15&cs=165&postalCodeSelected=34747
5. Sold the RSTD today. Actually traded it for a 2012 Kawasaki Vulcan 1700 Voyager. I've been waiting for Yamaha to hang a new fuel injected v4 on the Venture and maybe update the technology to add ABS. Alas, the old RSTD needed a bunch of maintenance all at once so I gave in and bought the new tech from Kawasaki. Picked her up tonight with zero miles and put her away with 36 miles. Have to give her the standard break in for the next 964 miles, then I'm hitting the road for Colorado. So, anybody want to buy some barely used slash cut RSTD pipes? I hung them in the shed 7 years ago and they are still there. Also found the stock seat. Make me an offer if you're interested. Warmest regards,
6. I'm trying to ascertain EXACTLY what the range of my bike is. I feel I am getting lousey MPG since I've gone 79 miles & the gauge is dancing between 1/2 & the bar below it. So I put the petcock in the on position to see how long I can run (leaving me the reserve so I'm not stranded). So when I hit the level where I need to switch to reserve position on the petcock, what will my main LCD gas gauge show? No bars? One bar? What about the red warning light will that turn on when IN reserve? What should I consider the normal range of the 1st Gen in (average) miles? Thank for the input.
7. When my husband and I were newlyweds, we rode 2 up on a KZ1000. Unfortunately, that bike was stolen 29 years ago. I had always promised him he could get a new bike when the time was right, and this is what we ended up with last week. It has a lot of miles on it but it was well taken care of.
8. My Dad, younger brother, and I are heading off for Alaska tomorrow morning. We are renting KLR650's in Anchorage and riding for 12 days throughout this great big state. Day 1 - Anchorage to Denali Nat'l Park Day 2 - Tour Denali Day 3 - Ride to Fairbanks - Visit Gold Dredge #8 Day 4 - Ride to Arctic Circle, take picture and spread some ashes, return to Fairbanks Day 5 - Ride west to Manley Hot Springs, soak for a while, return to Fairbanks Day 6 - Ride to Tok Day 7 - Ride to Eagle, then cross into Canada to Dawson on Top of the World Highway Day 8 - Ride back to Tok Day 9 - Ride to Valdez Day 10 - Take Alaska Marine Highway (ferry) to Wittier. Ride to Seward Day 11 - Ride to Homer Day 12 - Ride to Anchorage Day 13 - Fly home and resume my regularly scheduled life. About 2600 miles. 140 miles on gravel to/from the Arctic Circle. About 150 miles of gravel to Manley Hot Springs. Balance should be paved (unless we take some detours). We were originally intending to ride up there, but we only have two weeks. The ride would take about 6 days each way (with my Dad along - he can't/won't do the huge miles to get up there in 3 or 4 days). This would only leave about 4 or 5 days to ride in Alaska. Just didn't make sense. Need at a minimum 3 weeks to ride up/back. Will have a ride report when I get back. See ya' all in a couple of weeks. RR
9. This bike was bought from a guy out of Havanna, Fl. It's a '99 with about 18k miles on it. The pinstriping reminded me of Jaybird's handiwork. The guy that bought it lives within 15 miles of me and we got together today for about 4 hours for a mini MD and general BS section just to get acquainted. Real nice guy. His and mine are the only RSV's around me. The saddlebag hinges have the inserts that I've seen like are on Freebird's bike, without the engraving. I'm just thinking this bike has made it up to Don's at some point in time. It's running a little rough but we're gonna run some Seafoam in it for awhile and see it it'll clean it out. I did a carb sync and it runs much better but they were way out. It's been sitting up for awhile. If running the Seafoam in it doesn't do it then we'll take the carbs off one weekend and give them a really good inspection. So, what say ye, anybody recognize this bike??
10. This has been a good year in the bike turnover department. Think I may have found one to hang onto for a while. If you may recall, I recently picked up a 1975 Moto Guzzi 850T barn find. Well, the word got out and I sold it for $300 more than I paid without even putting a battery in it. So, now there is a hole on the garage floor that needs filled. It was filled Sunday with a 1986 BMW K75C with just over 20,000 miles on it. Was working with the previous owner for 3 or 4 weeks to get the pricing to where it needed to be. He finally gave in on Saturday and I picked it up on Sunday. Got plates and insurance today and went for a 25 mile run to the grocery store (that's 2 miles away). Need a different seat, but other than that, it is a really smooth little bike. Think I found an almost new Corbin just a few miles away. Need to do some investigation to see if it will fit. For those not initiated to the BMW world, the engine in this bike is affectionately known as the flying brick. It is considered to be one of the most reliable, long lasting engines ever put in a motorcycle. And smoooooooth. It needs a new front shoe (age cracking), but otherwise ready to ride, ride, ride. It will likely be one of the boy's bike since it is a tad small for me. The 3 cylinders act like a V4 - it likes the revs. The power band hits about 4000 RPM and just moves out. Decent front disc brake and an anemic drum rear brake. Great bike. RR
11. At last after spending alot of time researching the bike, I picked up my '08 Midnight Venture today. I was a little uneasy about the purchase as here in the UK the bike isn't well known & I couldn't get other dealers to give me a valuation as it doesn't have a book price. Fortunately as the dealer I bought it from has had it for at least 3 months, I got him to drop £3k on the price - so I couldn't say no!! The wife & I did 150 miles this evening & as the miles went on, our smiles got bigger & bigger! What a fantastic bike, it just got better & better. Did country miles with loads of twisties. Really impressed with the handling & the power. I can't believe that these bikes didn't take off over here, it's a real shame we can't get them new like you can. Thanks for all the help you gave me when I asked for advise prior to my purchase, I'll post some pics tomorrow & look forward to being around here. Who needs a Hardley, when you can ride quality like this?!
12. This is one of the roads we usually ride at The Asheville rally. It now has a name and has photographic coverage my Blind Kenny. If you are ever in western NC this is a must ride. The ride starts in Marion NC and ends in Micaville NC crossing the Blue Ridge parkway.16 miles long with 2000 ft elevation change. If in the area The Diamondback US226a is about 10 miles away.Another must ride. http://www.thedevilnc80.com/
13. There was a thread (I couldn't find it again until after I posted this) where a member claimed a seemingly unbelievable distance travelled in a 24 hour period. I did some research and I was convinced that the truth was being stretched. I called him out and basically called him a liar. (I called "BS") He was good enough to PM me with details and collaborating evidence proving that he certainly did accomplish that amazing ride! So...once again I find myself apologizing for shooting my mouth off. Miles, I am very sorry to have insulted you and for publicly casting doubt on your word. You know....I really am a nice guy! I just seem to hide it well.
14. I just changed oil in the Midnight, and discovered it took me almost two years to get 3,000 miles. Sad that I haven't rode more than that.....
15. Hey guys.. My 07 RSTD is about to run out of warranty in couple of weeks. I have a front fork tube that is vibrating and making a clanging noise at times I want to get looked at.. And I don't think my cruise control has ever worked right - surges up and down as it tries to adjust the speed Anything else I should have checked out before it ends?.. I'm sure they will charge me to look it over.. It only has ~ 9k miles... yea I know .. bought it 2 years ago w/ no miles on it but also don't get to ride like I want to.. can't even commute to work on it since I work from home ;-) ALSO, anyone recommend or not recommend a dealer in North Houston, TX area? The one in Humble couldn't fix my cruise and charged me .. Thanks, Keith
16. A brief history...had a new 06 RSTD midnight for 3 yrs and got the urge to try an '07 ST1300. Which the wife stated she would not ride it...looked to Tokyo. Which led to another m/c. Looking for either a good used RSV or a HD Glide, RK, I found an '08 RK near Beaumont with 4700 miles before I could find a RSV within 200 miles for the right price. Needs some TLC from sitting up, but other than that all checks out. Still gonna hang out here, don't post to much or do any meets, but I do enjoy reading all the goings on. Yes, it does have the factory mufflers and yes I'm keeping them...I'm not into loud.
17. I've been out riding with some friends this week we covered 2800 miles in 8 days. Lets see who can figure out where we went with some pictures.
18. Bought a 1987 Venture Royale less than 48 hrs ago. I paid $1750 knowing that there would be a few issues to fix. She seemed to run great during my test drive. However, I have found a few thing that need fixing since I have put a few miles on her yesterday. I also discovered the service manual for the bike and have just about read it from cover to cover. Major Thanks to whoever uploaded that gem. Just a bit of history.... The bike used to be ridden daily, until the po before the po decided not to ride anymore for what reason. So, it sat for a while and was no longer running. The plastics and stuff started falling apart as it sat in thee unbearable Texas sun. The guy I bought it from, picked it up and got it running again. New throttle cable, breaks, oil, air cleaner and the lik. He replaced or "repaired" the broken plastics as best as he knew how. So, I have an awesome bike with 75000 miles on it that needs a bit more tlc. My goal is to ride it to and from work as much as possible (50 miles each way) and to take rides with my wife and son. Any help/advice would be appreciated in my quest to restore this beauty to her former glory. If there is anyone who lives around Houston, tx that would be willing to help guide me through the fixes, lend a hand, or help me find parts, etc, your time and efforts would be well rewarded (I brew my own beer) and appreciated. List of known issues: CLASS air pressure drops in front (rapidly) Radio/tape deck issues (possibly replace) Idle issues - when warm, idles so low that it dies, or it won't idle down , backfiring/popping noises at idle or throttle let-off, etc Electronic cruise control isn't working. Lights come on, but won't set cruise. Speedometer just started bouncing around until it warms up. Battery needs to be replaced (or charging system fixed) and red flashing light needs to be fixed. A lot of cosmetic issues. I am not sure where to start and where to find the parts I need. Guidance would be appreciated as to what repairs to affect first and in order of importance. And pictures are what we all want..... Thank you for taking the time to look at my long post.
19. get rid of the red hot poker sticking in my back between my shoulder blades after about 200 miles. I left IL for OH on the 2nd of June and 200 mi into the trip this intense pain worked it's way between the shoulder blades. . on the return trip the 10th it came around 150 miles into the ride. .please tell me that a set of risers will correct this. . . . Today I rode and at about 70 miles it came. . . . Tim
20. How about a RTE this saturday? I promise it won't be 1100 miles like last saturday!
21. To my surprise, as I was driving home from work the other day, there it is, a 2008 charcoal gray( i think that is what they call it) RSV, just 1/2 mile from where I work. I know the guy that lives there, but didn't know he owns a Venture. Now I know why. Apperantly it spent most of its time in the garage. It only has 3300 miles on it. He is asking $9500.00. It is an S model, but has no extra bling. Not even a luggage rack. If anyone is interested Drop me a pm. I will take pic's. He is not doing any advertising at this time.
22. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this kind of wear patern from a rear e3 , i color one of the dips in the tread, tire has around 17,000 miles on it. its more on the left side of the tire. right side shows just a little wear .
23. Hey guys I am looking to replace my 96 suburban and found a really clean 06 avalanche LT with leather interior it is loaded and it has 75,000 miles on it. I have just under 200,000 on my suburban. Is it worth buying or just buy something newer. Thanks in advance. Richie R
24. Was hoping I wouldn't have to post for advice in this section so soon after purchasing my 2005 RsTD last week. The bike has only 5400 miles. I picked it up last Friday. Rode it down to NYC where it sat in my parents garage till Tuesday. I drove over, topped off tires and air shock and rode about 400 miles. Left it parked till this morning. Today my dad went to start it to ride to work and get it inspected for me and no go, he said the battery was drained. Him and my brother push started it down my driveway and it fired up. He let it run for 15 minutes killed the engine and went to restart but the battery wasn't charging. The original owner replaced tthe battery last year and even gave me the old one. I am a complete layman when it comes to anything mechanical and really can't afford to take it to the stealership. Any advice? Only accessory iis a 12v adapter.
25. well Mike told me he had a 2011 1700 voyger with 6212 miles for $13,900.00. my second gen has 71120 miles on it and I've had it for two years and not sure of the maintenance records. having said that this kaw is a one owner and only one year old. I'm not familiar with the Vulcan-voyger 1700 cc but know there 1600,1500,900 are pretty much bullet proof.has anyone here have any knowledge of this bike? i know it doesn't have a CB or a tape deck but it seems to be a fairly nice ride.
