  1. Took most of the day to find a place where it would fit. But I finally got the Strebel horn mounted on the Virago. Not much open space for mounting accessories. No, someone is definately going to be getting a wake up call the next time they do something stupid. Had a guy blow a red light as I was starting into a left turn on the turn arrow. Saw him speed up as the light went to amber and just knew he wasn't going to stop. He hit the intersection after the lamp went red on him but he didn't even slow down. Guess you just can't fix stupid. But I'm sure gonna call it to their attention now.
  2. The light bar on the trunk has a burned out turn signal and only one tail/running light that works. Last night I removed the three screws inside the trunk but the bar did not budge. If I recall correctly this light bar does require heating to release the glue to separate the lens from the base but before I break something, should the light bar come off the trunk easily with the screws removed or is it necessary to pop the lens off first?
  3. Just came home with a 2011 Blue RSV. Still trying to get used to everything. It is not as friendly as my wing was but will be a great ride. I am just having the riding lights added for now. What do most people do to light up that back end of the bike? My wing was loaded with lights on the back.
  4. Didn't catch your name at the light. Just wanted to say on here. Don
  5. Anyone know where to get a Driving Light ring/clamp that goes on the Yamaha Passing Light accessory for a 2006 RSTD? Stealer says Yamaha doesn't sell the individual pieces.....
  6. Last November, since I was recovering from my surgery and no using it for at least 45 days, I had to move my bike to the winter parking. I remember that I was not able to started easily, and after a couple of starts, it come up but also a yellow light show up. After that, I stopped after parking on the right spot, and didn't used at all during this time. Winter weather plus my surgery recover didn't let me be close to the bike to take care of it. Somebody remember what was that yellow engine light? Was not Oil, was the engine but it never showed up in the past since I have that bike. I'll start to prepare it for this year, and before to do anything, I want to be sure that nothing went wrong. Thanks, calperin
  7. Where is the best place to find a LED rear brake light replacement for an 2002 Yamaha Silverado?
  8. I am now on my SECOND 86 VR, because I know that bike via 89,000 miles, at my YOUNG age of 70 getting another one just made sense! \ BOTH have had the second gear indicator light not working. The first bike was brand new. and the indicator worked for awhile. It's no big problem to me, and thanks to your posts on the second gear I will not be gentle with my second gear. Sounds like on the 86 it was well solved. Any wisdom on the light? Doubt I'll put much money out for the correction though. Just a question. Thanks to all, and all ride safe. 9. Hi there all I have been working on restoring a 84 Venture for the last 2 months that was in a garage with 26,000 miles for the last 15 years. I tore it down complete to a motor in a frame and have since down all the updates that I have read on the forums and have a issue at this moment. The headlight bulb stays lit all the time in the dash Evan tho the head light works on high and low and also the tail and brake light stays lit in the LCD Evan tho the lights work. Does anybody have a idea where to go to test or has anybody ran across this issue before. Thanks I will have pictures of everything I have done so far posted when I get a internet connection that does not take 24 hours to upload. Thanks in advance. AL
  10. I returned to riding after 40 years absence and bought an '04 VStar 1100 with 1,500 actual miles. Starts and runs fine except for a miss at very light load --- almost coasting. I've run 3 tanks with Seafoam and it's a little worse. I started out running mid-grade gas and then switched to low grade 78 octane when advised by a friend. Local dealer does not have a great reputation for repairs --- at least by some opinions. I am moderately good at mechanics and have good tools but no experience with motorcycles. Don't mind doing it myself and can follow instructions but they need to be in plain/idiot language. It looks like some may have replied to my earlier posts --- I could not find them --- I may know less about these "thread things" then about my bike. THANKS FOR YOU HELP & PATIENCE. Tompa3
  11. I had a strange occurrence today that I thought was going to leave me stranded. I came up on a mobile construction stop light that I knew was very long so I turned off the bike to keep the heat down. It was close to 90 degrees out. I had just done this on the other direction and had made a ccouple other stops with no problems. When I thought the light was about to change I hit the starter and everything went out. I lost the instrument cluster and the starter wouldn't engage. The odd thing is that the power outlets that are wired direct to battery also went out. I pulled off to the side and tried wiggling wires etc. I also pulled the line fuze for the outlets. After several attempts and 10 minutes it came back to life and has been fine since. I'm afraid of this happening again. Any thoughts?
  12. My wife and I went to Quincy il today and sitting at a stop light we had about 20 bikes, all harleys, pass by. We are on the RSV chilling at the red light and they had the green. I waved as I do to ALL bikes. Not a one would lift a finger, not even to flip us off. They looked at us, then turned there heads. Even the wives on the ones riding 2 up turned their noses up I would hate to thing that a piece of equipment made me have such a complex that I would be ashamed to wave at someone riding something not labeled a harley. Next time I get the chance I think Ill ask one of them hard core harley guys to grab a standard tool set and work on his "hog" cause unless it is old school with a springer front end I am betting it has as many foreign parts as my Yamaha
  13. Well, I managed to find a nice harley rear light unit off Ebay. Got the item and now for the wiring. I find that this unit has 1157 bulbs which of course means stop and running lights. The wires are only marked in the manner noted below. One is copper and the other is aluminum? Its silver anyway. So which would be stop and which would be running? Some one out there knows for sure.
  14. I came on to the bike at an intersection tonight, pounding through to third gear, and saw a little red light come on , on the lower left side of the instrument display. What was that? It only stayed on for a few seconds. then when I got home, the bike seemed to be running fast.
  15. Ok, I know I put this here before and no answers. But situation now is different. I did everything except change the coolant liquid. The fact is on neutral, if I left the engine running for more than 20 minutes I never get the temperature light going ON. If I start to ride the bike on street for a couple of miles, sometimes I can see the temperature light starting really low (almost imposible to notice that during the day), and then disappears. If I keep running, it goes ON again a little strong but if I stop the bike, I can feel the fan on and after a couple of seconds the light goes OFF. I was able to see the fan working, and also I already check the level of Coolant. Also, finished to take off the thermostat, and test it on a vessel with water and it opens at 80ºC (177 ºF) and it close with no problem. Tried this at least 10 times, and it allways worked. I have the bike stop during the hole winter, and due to this I didn't ride it but I'm trying to have it ready for next weekend MD. Do you somebody think that I need to change the coolant? Should I mix the coolant 50/50 with water? I refill it with full coolant liquid. May be a 1/4 of the bottle, and it is a 1/2" over the Full Line. I 'll thank any help in order to have this ready during this weekend for test it before my 3 hour trip on Friday. BTW, bike is a 1997 Royal Star Classic, with 11000 miles on it. Thanks in advance for any help. calperin I don't want to do this next Friday!!!
  16. My '91 VR came with an aftermarket light bar on the trunk. It has amber turn signals on the corners, "tail lights", just inboard, and the center section is a brake light. One of the turn signals burned out, and I thought I could get to the lamps by removing 3 screws from inside the trunk... Yeah, right. As it turns out, the turn signal lens, (and I'm assuming the red lens for the brake and tail lamps) just "pop" out. Apparetly the previous owner used RTV to keep the turn signal lens in place. Question is, does anyone know who made this light bar? I'd like to find more info about how it is mounted and how lamps are changed. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
  17. Before I start tearing into the wiring of the front turn signals I thought I would ask. My right front turn signal is not working properly. When you signal a right the indicator light blinks on and off rapidly. I checked the bulb and it is good. Switched the left bulb for the right and same action. When you look at the turn signals when you first turn the bike on you see one filiments glowing in each turn signal. When you activate the left turn signal you will see two filiments glowing with one going off and on to create the flashing signal. This filiment is a smaller brighter and above the other filiment. When you activate the right turn signal the smaller top filiment does not light up but the lower filiment (running ) blinks weakly instead. Any help would be appreciated.
  18. I've been thinking about moving some lights around as well as replacing my old old fog lights with some more up to date LED night time driving lights. I've found these: http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&category=TRUCK&Page2Disp=/specs/wlcwhp10_specs.htm the frontal area of the S25 model is basically the same as my current lights but they are less then half as deep. I am thinking of having these on a separate switch and just turn them on at night when I need/want the extra light. I do have Squid's bracket s to put them on. Anyone have these, and what are your impressions ?? I also have some amber LED marker/daytime running lights under the sidecar which I want to move to the bike and hook into the headlamp/front turnsignals, after which i want to put something like these under the sidecar: http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&Page2Disp=%2Fspecs%2Fdrlcw8hf_specs.htm#photos I think that if i do all that I should theoretically have enough light up front
  19. I bought the driving lights that I will be putting onto my MK II. They are the KC HiLites series 35. I have these same lights on my truck and really like them. The lens is designed to put some light forward like a driving light, but to also fill in the sides of where the stock headlight can't reach. very little of the beam is wasted on adding light to the same areas as the stock headlight. These come with 55W halogen bulbs that I plan to replace with 35W HID. 3 forward looking HIDs should light things up pretty good at night and keep me visible in the daytime. I am thinking of mounting them to the faring on the flat area just below the air intakes. I have not taken the vent out yet to see if there is room to add a reinforcement thickness of plastic to strengthen the area. Do you think that the plastic of the faring is strong enough as is to handle the weight of the light while bouncing down the road or do I really need to strengthen it some?
  20. My HID headlight came in Friday, from Canadian Custom Got out yesterday afternoon and installed it. The hardest part was getting the HID bulb in to the headlight bucket. I had to take the two bolts holding the frame in place, out, to get that long bulb installed. (note to self don't forget the rubber seal ring around the back of bucket!!!). Then where to mount the power supply? Well there is an empty flat place (looking AT the bike) on the left. Thinking double sided emblem mounting tape, but not sure of the heat. Really don't wanna drill holes in the fairing, so lemme call the expert! I guess great minds run in the same circles (Thanks Squid!!!). So I mounted it with the tape right in that spot. Since I already have a "fused" power wire run from the battery to a switch (that picture did not turn out) all I had to do was connect the large power supply wire for the HID light to that switch. Woo Hoo didn't have to pull the tank!!! I did run in to one "bump in the road", the red power supply wire pulled out of the fuse holder (insufficient crimping) that is supplied with the light kit. A quick trip to Autozone and that was taken care of. MAN, that sucker is BRIGHT!!! The pictures don't show it, but it makes the stock passing light bulbs look like yellow fog lights:(.
  21. I filled my tank up a few days back and have been riding back and forth to work in the rare Scottish sunshine, on my way home yesterday I noticed the fuel gauge dip and the "F" count begin, I anly had 78 miles since brimming her . Now I am riding solo and doing anywhere from 55 to 90 mph (mostly above 70 ) so it looks like I'll be lucky to get 100 miles to the tank before empty, unless I bumble around at 55 all day . However I never had any "Low fuel warning light appear" is this only on the Venture model as I can't see a low fuel light on the consol ? Cheers.
  22. Hey all, My buddy just bought an 08 Venture. His radio won't turn on. If he puts the fuse in the back light lights up but never shuts off. Any ideas? Thanks T.C.
  23. I haven't started looking yet, so I thought I'd save myself some time and ask. Do I have to split the fairing to get at the OD light bulb on the 2nd gen? I think it is the bulb or loose connection. It stopped working late last year just before I put it away and I forgot about it when I was getting the bike ready this spring, UNTIL I got on the highway. It doesn't work most of the time, but it does work occassionally. It's not high on the priority list but it will get done sometime... Thanks, John
  24. I have an 89 VR and there is a little round, dome, red light on my faring, just to the right of the Cassette cover near the open vents that are around the handlebar. Can someone tell me what it is for. It is the size of maybe the diameter of a 10 gage wire. The Venture is a standard VR so there are no add on accessories. I checked the manuel with no luck.
  25. just pull my trailer out of storage "not heated" and now the 3bulb led lights I added last year are extremely dim. i added these little lights to just the brake light so they act like an extra brake light. worked great all last year and now nutt'n. I checked the connections to the original led brake light wire and it looks good. these were $8.00 truck stop specials so my ?? is can they just go capute. its odd they both took a dump but the origianal brake lights work just fine. any ideas???
