  1. I want to install a set of Nasty Boys 4-2-4's on my 06 RSTD but would like to hear them first , is there anyone who has an audio clip that I could hear
  2. Hello all, I'm in the process of documenting the install in a PDF document but here are the final pix for the installation. Based on GeorgeS' comments and feedback from the vendor I may revise the final wiring but all of the wiring is soldered and shrink wrapped at all connectors (including the 1/8" audio connectors) and run through the stock wiring locations. Due to the fact that there is very limited space I mounted the amp under the right side of the gas tank. All of the cabling is hidden as much as possible (or at least blended) with the speakers inside the windscreen on the bars. Once mounted the system works and sounds great, I'm very happy with it so far.
  3. My '83 Royale did not come with a CB and/or intercom but I would like to add one. I have a OEM working radio without headset jack. What would I need to install this on my bike? Does anyone have this and want to part with it? Thanks!
  4. I will be "attempting" to install new progessives tomorrow. I have never done this job but it doesn't appear to be that difficult. I've thought that before about other mods I started and what should had been easy turned out to be much more involved than I initially thought. Been burnt many times. But still this seems to be a fairly straight forward job. So, I ask, once I remove the fork caps, otherthan the old springs, what else is removed and "not" reused? Also, in addition to the new springs and the PVC looking spacer, what else should I install and/or replace? I am building that "monster" tool as recommended by Condor; a piece of 17mm Hex key soldered in a 17mm 6 pt socket. Hopefully, all goes well.
  5. I purchased a set of floorboards with the heel toe shifter and brake pedal for my 88 VR and they arrived today. Now I am in a quandry as to how to install them. I am sure that all of the parts are here but I don't have a clue as to where to start. Does anyone have these floorboards installed on their bike and would be willing to sned me pictures of the finished install so I can get them on? Any help I could get would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Marvin BTW these came off of an 89 VR and I purchased them from a member here on this site.....got a sweet deal
  6. someone posted with pictures, of how to install the passanger armrests, with bolts that go straight through, the passanger bars, I'm lost & also the brake light, install, under the trunk
  7. I recently picked up another parts bike that has Chrome Air Intake Grills.(please see attached pic) Does anyone know of a way to install these grills on a Venture Royale WITHOUT taking the Fairing off the bike? I would love to have these grills on my 87'VR but am not looking forward to taking both halves of the fairing off to install them! Please Help!! Earl
  8. I just finished installing my Baron Tach on my 03 but I went a different route. After trying a minifaced tach, I wasn't too pleased with the looks plus it was so small, I had a hard time seeing it. This one was meant to install on a 1 in. handlebar but it also didn't fit right on the RSV because of limited space so I bought a Ram Mount # RAM-B-346CU which has a 1 in. ball to attach different accessories. I have all kinds of up, down, right and left adjustment. The face can be programmed with different colors and the green matches the speedo color pretty close. Check out the pix and let me know what you think. Brian
  9. Greetins all, I got up to take our dog out at 5:00 AM today and I thought I overslept clear through to November! We had a bit better than 1/2" of snow on our deck. This past Thursday we had record temps, 90 degrees F. Oh, well, guess I will install the mufflers I bought from AtlantaDragonSlayer. It is still just 34 F outside. I HATE WEATHER!!!!!!! Dave
  10. Just sittin' at work thinking about weekend bike plans (and work too of course)...I've got a mudflap to install on my 06RSV. Just wondering if I can remove the front fender completely simply by removing the 4 bolts, without removing the tire. Can I get the fender out by doing that? It'd be a lot easier to drill holes & install the flap while it's sitting on the workbench! Thanks in advance for the info...now I'll get back to work! JR
  11. I bought a pair of the Diamond R swinging pegs for my passenger. To install, the rear floorboard bolt needs to be removed. The left side one was very tight, but it came out. The right side one is beyond tight. I was using the bike toolkit since I wanted to install them at lunch and surprise her after work. The L-shaped "allen wrench" didn't move it, so I used the tube to make a breaker bar. No joy. I don't want to damage the bolt, so I stopped. Is the bolt really that tight? Should I use penetrating oil? Ideas? Dave
  12. After watching the install of the Stebel Compact Air Horn on JBurrell's bike this past weekend at the SE TX Maintenance Day, I decided to take the plunge and do it. I have been looking for an auxiliary fuse block to put under the seat, and that took me to Harbor Freight last night. No fuse box, but I did pick up a box of connectors and shrink wrap marked at $4.99 each. At the checkout, the total rang up to $15+. Turns out that they had marked a sale last night that begins today (3/27)! W00t! So head to Harbor Freight and pick up some goodies for those electrical projects you are planning. The shrink wrap assortment is particularly cool. Yes, I did install the airhorn. LOUD! I took my time, did it right, and there is plenty of amperage available. BTW, I used the CARBON_ONE bracket, and it worked great. No, I haven't found a fuse box at HF, Auto Zone, or Academy (where Ponch suggested). Suggestions for that are appreciated.
  13. I just bought two sets of J&M elite full-face headsets. I was going to send the to J&M to have them install them in our Shoei RF1000 helmets. Then I came across this link at Edsets web site http://picasaweb.google.com/edsetsdude/2008ShoeiRF1000. I just followed the steps and went slow. It wasn't hard but it was time consuming. The only thing I did different than what the Edset page did was I off set the mics to the left side, that's the way J&M suggests. They sound great in the garage. We didn't have time to road test them today.
  14. Hello everyone, Well the weather is finally breaking and we are getting our bikes ready for some summer riding fun. This year i was looking to install a pair of top saddle bag rails on the Venture, but I don't know where to purchase them! Would someone please direct me to a sight I could purchase from. My wife bought a pair from e-bay, but they must be for a Tour Delux cause they don't line up, or maybe i just don't know how to install them. Any information would be a big help! Thanks and have a safe summer!
  15. I have a Shoei RF1000 full face helmet that I want to install the J&M 279ff headsets into. My problem is how to install the mic. The front liner doen't look like it comes out. Anyone ever install a headset in this helmet? Thanks for any help.
  16. I am trying to install a Yamaha CB on an 83 Venture Royale. I have the CB and the wire that goes to the amp, but I need the wiring to plug into the CB to battery. I also need the wiring to install the radio controller. I have the controller. I also need the mic. Can anyone direct me to someone who might have these missing parts for installing the CB? I can't find them on EBay. Thank you. Mixon
  17. I am trying to install a CB on my 83 Venture. Ebay has a head unit, but it does not include wiring and mic. I am trying to locate whatever I need to install a CB on a bike that does not have one now. Thank you for any information you may give me. AL
  18. I recently bought a 06 RSV that the previous owner had installed a set of Python slip ons. They sound great but too loud for my taste, any ideas what I might could install that would be close to the sound of the original pipes? Thanks in advance and by the way,I am new to the site and really enjoy reading everyone posts.
  19. in a few days i plan to start installing the buckeye stator...in the install info in this site, and from buckeye, it says that the 3 wire connector cannot handle the heat...so you must solder the wires together..my question is, is it the connector material itself that can't handle the load. or the actual wiring ( or pins ) that can't i would like to remove the wires from the connector ( not cut ), discard the connector and replug the wires to each other....shrink wrap each individual wire and then shrink wrap all three as a bundle together........................or.....go down to radio shack, purchase their connector, redo the wires with their pins and use that connector.....their connector and pins are bigger than the pins used in yamaha connectors
  20. I purchased a Show Chrome radiator cover from JC Whitney. Catalogue said it would fit all 2nd generation Ventures. I have a 2007. When I opened the box to install the instructions say it will fit 1999-2002 only. Called JC Whitney and they called Show Chrome who said it might fit or it might need slight modification. Since I have to dismantle quite a few parts to install I would like to know for sure if it will fit. I like the look of the cover (only one I have found in chrome). Has anyone purchased and installed one of these. If so, will it fit as is or what kind on modification if not. Thanks.
  21. Do you have to split the fairing to install the headlight Visor?
  22. does anybody have the bazooka amp and speakers, model mc-yam-ak4,installed on thier bike, and if so how do you like it and have you had any problems? was the install easy?
  23. I have a question about the passing lamp install. I have read about using a 30amp relay and running the power right off the battery so the fuse is under the seat next to the battery. doesn't this drain the battery? Also wouldn't this keep the lights on even if the ignition is off? any help would be appriciated. Thanks
  24. ok....installed the venture running lights (07).....hooked up my heated gloves, vest, pants.....rode for about an hour....discharged battery......( yes, system is charging correctly)... i know of only one co. that has an upgrade stator...has anyone done this upgrade and have you had any problems...is this the only co. do i have to worry about hurting the stock rectfier, wires etc. ? how easy an install is it..... thanks
  25. I am getting ready to split the faring (first time by my self). I found the write up by Squidley expaining this is done and how to install the spilt audio cable so that I can install my new Zumo 550. My question is this, can I just tap into the electrical power behind the power outlet inside the faring for my GPS power or should I get the power from somewhere else? Thanks---
