1. I would like to install a good volt meter on my 89 VR, for I understand the dash meter does not provide a reliable read. Is that correct? So I would appreciate some good suggestions as to what there is out there and where a good place to install it. And any other related suggestions?
2. Has anyone put BUB slip on mufflers on the RSTD. Was it easy install do they sound good , are you glad you did ?
3. Santa Claus....is not too far away.....and I was wondering if I should maybe sell my 550 and replace it with a 665. The xm radio and lane indicators are really very attractive to me...but....is it worth the extra$$$? Maybe members who have owned/used both could give me some insight as to their thoughts on the good/bad/ugly between the two gps's? How much is the xm subscription? How is the reception out in the "boonies" Does the lane indicator work well? on a 6 lane freeway for instance...... Where did you install the xm antennae? Can you install it inside the fairing? What's my 2 year old 550 worth? Will the 550 cradle mount(Ram mount) work for the 665? Thanks for your insights..... gunk:mo money:
4. It's funny how after you pull the trigger on a deal that seems too good to be true...it usually is...Now my question. I bought some brand new (what I thought were genuine) Royal Star Saddlebag rails on eBay for a very good price. And while they look great and arrived still in plastic...there were no instructions in the bag. Is this a straight forward install or do I need to install these a certain way. Wally
5. I would like to install one of those light blue head lamps on my 89 VR. Anyone knows what I should get?
6. I just got a quote on new front and rear Dunlop E3 tires for my 84 standard from my local stealer $610...thats the final after tax and install price. (on the bike) OUCH!!!! I was told if I buy tires and bring them in it would be $65 for the rear and $45 for the front for install I know we pay thru the nose for stuff up here in Canada...but thats a long way from US prices I've heard about on this site. Anybody know where I can do better?
7. Okay, I decided that it's time to upgrade my stock Stator to something which offers better performance. From what I have read, Buckeye's seems to be the preferred upgrade unit to install. Many people who are much more knowledgeable than I am regarding electricity, etc. have told me that I am probably over-taxing my stock stator, and that it would be wise to install a higher-output Stator. My question is . . . would it be reasonable to see if I can find a used Buckeye Stator to save a few bucks? Or, is this the type of thing which I shouldn't chance, and just purchase a brand new one? I want to make sure that this job is done right the first time. I also want to be assured that when I buy a new Stator, that I will have a higher performing unit than the stock one I have been using, and that I will be happy with my purchase and the upgrade difference. Thanks Guys & Be Safe! Pete.
8. I have some free time this weekend and want to take the tape deck out but leave the AUX jack for my mp3 player. I have looked all over and cant find the specific thread for tape deck removal. Can someone point me in the right direction please. Also I want to install a tach. I am looking at this one here http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Sunpro-Super-Tach-II-2-5-8%22---Black-Face-&-Chrome-Bezel-Actron_16990020-P_N3342_P|GRP2032____ will that one work and how difficult is the install ( I am by no means a mechanic) LOL
9. Here's the original thread... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=46705 And here it is, (again) in stages of completion to almost completed (have a few lights yet to install and clean up the wheels some)
10. Now that I have been adding accesories to my 07 RSTD, the battery post are clogged with wires I attached. Is there a better way? Perhaps some kind of terminal block I could install. As always, you suggestions/recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mark:bowdown:
11. I just got done installing a tour pack on my 07 RSTD. Not very staisfied with the pack. It's a little small and cheaply made, but it has some cool LED lights. I think I will install a Harley tour pack when I find one that won't break the bank. What do you think? Mark
12. I am considering installing a windshield vent and was wondering about the Pros and Cons.:yikes: Is there an article on just how to install the vents and are there different types? Your help and knowledge is appreciated! Bubber
13. OK, I did the progressive install a few weeks ago and the ride is better than the leaky stock it had when I got it, but I think it is far too harsh. Little bumps seem to affect the ride too much and my wife said it felt like we were on a Jet-Ski! When I did the install I left the following parts above the new spring: plastic spacer from progressive, cap and cap bolt. I filled it up with oil to 11" deep with fully extended tubes. Everything is back together and working correctly, but it is far to harsh. Any suggestions on how to make it ride like I have read it should?
14. Well am I bad, I left Canada with what I thought was a ok rear tire. it seems to have worn a lot faster than I anticipated. Anybody know of a dealer around Lake City that might have a tire in stock and able to install it I have tried Mountain Power Sports 1 40 Good Times Yamaha of Knoxville. Perhaps somewhere heading north on 1 75. Thanks Bob
15. Ok....been getting the warnings lately that some programs will no longer be supported with Internet Explorer 7 so it's time to jump to IE8. No biggie right? I download the upgrade file for my Windows XP and go to install it. Dang...... I have the file BOIE8_MSCOM_XP.EXE as the upgrade but when I go to install it I get the message "BOIE8_MSCOM_XP.EXE is not a valid Win32 application" I spent some time on the Windows site and checked that I have all the needed updates installed on my system and it looks like I have everything I need. I can get around a computer pretty well if I know where I'm going but I'm a bit stumped on this one. Any suggestions? Mike
16. Hey guys, I'm looking for a tach for my Midnight and not sure what to get.. I got up all confused over the single / dual ignition thing etc.. What's out there that is bone dead simple to install etc? I had a small little digital tach thing that I couldn't make work as it required me to splice into too many odd wires to make it work (needed converter signal cables etc) Suggestions?
17. after reading on this site and deciding that im not happy with my brakes I have decided i only want to do this once so I am going to rebuild all 3 calipers and both master cylinders, does anyone have a good source for parts? also can i install a bleeder valve from a mkII in my 83 and anyone have one for sale or know where i could get one?
18. just purchased leftover 2009 venture and have been gathering goodies to install. because of this great forum i have decided to install the vmax rear upgrade. i contacted john furber at his sportsmax company and discovered his business is located in catasauqua, pa just 20 minutes from my home town. we made plans to meet at his shop and discuss the upgrade. i had already removed the rear and since the bike has only 125 miles on her we used my rear and had the gears installed into it.i left the assembly this monday at 6:00 and it was done by the next afternoon. picked her up on wednesday and came home and put it all back together. while it was apart i installed the leveling links as it was a snap with no rear wheel in place. too late tonight to ride so tomorrow after work i will take her off the stand and see what she has. just want to recommend sportsmax and john furber to fellow venture riders, he has a passion for vmaxs and has opened his doors to us fellow venture riders...
19. :225::225:You know some times no matter how hard you try things just seem to go from bad to worse. About 5 and 1/2 months ago I sent some parts to a vendor to have the levers leather wrapped and some other parts leather worked. So my MM has been sitting 5 1/2 months. I have been trying to get the guy wrapping the levers to send me the levers for 6 weeks. I told him I wanted to get my MM on the road. He keeps telling me he will send them right out. Well the last time he was suppose to send them right out was by last Saturday. I'm still waiting. Now this is frustrating enough by itself so I decided to try and find some used levers to put on the MM until and if I get my levers back. Well I got the used levers in night before last and tried to install them. Well guess what. The front brake lever did not have the 6mm screw in it. Well if you think about it (now I'm thinking about it) you would need that screw if you change to new levers. Okay so I'll replace the clutch lever and run down to the Yamaha Stealer for parts. Well I go to install the lever and I notice something is missing. Then I remember I found a part on the floor awhile back I didn't recognize. So I get the part and run up to the computer and check and sure enough it goes between the clutch lever and the clutch master cylinder. Alright I know where it goes now all I have to do is install it. I go to install it and I notice I'm still missing a part. Ah ha I remember finding another part I did not know what it was and I also remembered where it was. Alright I got it but I needed to do something so I laid the part I just got on the corner of a box and I when and did whatever it was I needed to do. Alright I get back to replacing my lever and for some stupid reason I decided to move some boxes before I got started. Well remember the box I put the part on well that is one of the boxes I moved. Oh know! Where did the part go. I have hunted two days for that part and still have not found it. So now I have to order that part along with the screw and nut for the other lever. I get to the Yamaha Dealer and of course they don't have any of the parts in stock. Why would they? So I order the parts and of course it will take 3 to 5 days. I sure will be glad when this is all over.
20. I just received my polk speakers that I ordered ..and now I can't find the topic with pictures how to install these speakers. does anyone knows, where I can find that topic ?
21. Here is the basic install of the HID lighting system. Also tossed in a few pics of the Argus Battery Bug location and the future Digital Gauge location. Didnt have enough time to finish it today. Also my new LED lights in the rear....Also the SkyDoc R1 conversion and VMAX splitter along with the SS lines. And the reason why I dont need an alarm system.....
22. Ok it is time to get wired. Xm radio install (split the fairing etc) should be a breez thanks to all of you. Hope to have accomplished yet this week. Micmutes not ordered yet but install should be easy. Again thanks to all of you. Great pics and instructions. Then there is this whole gps thing. I have been searching the forum and frankly I am lost. Whats the best install? Xm and gps via splitter? Not sure I am capable of listening to both at same time. (I like my Roady.) Gps via Intercom? How would that work with micmutes? Micmutes a must. I don't like amplifying the engine and road noise. Have a Lowrance GPS purchased from the sporting goods dept at Walmart. Supposed to be water resistant. Has an earplug port. Just not sure how to utilize it with our headsets. May be I am just in overload here. Afterall I purchased the scoot to get away. Do I really want to know where I am? By the way, I am not intrested in wiring up the phone. Would defeat the whole purpose!!!!!!!!! Thanks in advance. This is one teriffic site!
23. Just finished installing a HID headlight in my 05 RSTD from Canadian Cruiser Customizing. Have to say this was one of the easiest changes to do. Everything was plug and play and went together very easy. The hardest part is running the positive back to the battery. I zip tied my ballast to the back of the bracket that the headlight mounts too. Looks like you could also install it on the backside of the mount for windshield, but I didn't feel like taking everything back apart. Haven't had it out at night to tell the difference, but the installation was simple.
24. Just ordered and installed the R-Mark Brake Lightbar and thought I would share my experience. When I got the lightbar (yesterday) I was happy with the quality and also the ease of installing it. It went very smooth and worked perfectly the very first time. I did have some questions about the install and a small instruction discrepancy, however that was QUICKLY addressed through email with Mark. Excellent communication!! I paid $59 +$11 shipping and feel like I got a bargain. If you were on the fence about this lightbar either because of quality OR because of the install...don't be weary any longer...both are non-issues. The quality and operation of the lightbar is excellent and the install is very easy. Just wanted to give an update as to this product and company. Wally
25. Just installed the S.O.M.A. light bar part# SBRLK. The light bar is on sale now for $44.95. I live close enough so I just took a ride to pick it up. One hour to install. It really lights up the back of the bike. Good riding to all Dave
