1. I got the adjustment knob off, rubber gasket off & the female electrical plug off > now I see a "u" shaped spring holding the bulb in the headlight. I do not understand the instructions elsewhere of how turning the bulb 90 degress to the left will free it from the u shaped spring! or how long needlenose pliers help!
2. Hi to all, I did some work on my forks and put it back together today all was working fine last night. Now i have no lights, headlight, turn signals and rear brake light. Now when i hit my turn signal they work fine and when I apply my front or rear brakes the brake light works. Headlight completely inop and no driving lights at all. Looked at harness no pinched wires at steering stop. Any help woud be welcomed. Screaming red
3. ok is it earl who makes the fuse box thats way better then this old piece of crap? i noticed my headlight going off and on tonight.. just got home went to check the fuse. and the darn thing broke off one of them tabs. also some of the others are going to go soon. it is 26 years old something has to give. but in my honest opion. it started out as a piece of junk. im not going to buy another one off fleabay. if someone invented a better one.. so if its here please let me know.. i dont want to cut and splice wires to make the headlight work. i guess i could hook a an inline fuse if i knew what type?
4. Curious about headlight modulators. Can somebody explain these to me? Do they work on high or low or both beams? Will they work with HID headlight? Do they work all the time or just when I turn them on? What does law enforcement say about their use? Frank

First, I am an idiot when it comes to mechanical things or comfusers, er , computers. My headlight burnt out on my 02 and I am trying to figure out how to get the headlight out. When I take out the screw at the botom of the headlight ring I still can't get the ring off. What is the secret? Once I can get at the headlight it is no problem.
6. I installed my new HID headlight setup from HID Country a few weeks ago. From the start I'm having a problem with the light not always lighting. I turn the key off, and turn the key back on and it's fine most the time. I got caught a few times with no headlight on during the day. Has any one else had this problem? I talked with Jason from HID Country, but he has not responded yet. Thanks for any help.
7. Just sealed the deal on a brand new used 1988 Venture Royal, The previous owner had ha headlight problen and couldn't figgure it our....All other lights work as they should........Any ideas on what might be wrong.
8. Not sure why Hannigan does not have the Dealers or Hannigan them self's add this when doing the Rake Install . I have found that there is no way to adjust my headlight to to proper angle after the the rake has been added. After the rake kit is installed (my) headlight wants to shoot up into the sky. I finely got around to doing this as one of my winter projects this year. Here is my fix. The Picture below are standing in front of the bike, So I will refer the left and right in that manner. Picture (1) is both left and right NOTE: You will also need longer bolts to do this project. those should be laying around in a bag of nuts and bolts you got back from them removing all your other stuff. Picture (2) is left - with a spacer that is 2.25 thick and a washer of .065 Picture (3) is right - - with a spacer that is 3.00 thick and a washer of .065 I did this mod a while back but never got around to testing it, I did this AM while it was still dark outside with the VRtech Headlight Adjustment write-up. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1064 You will still be able to use the knob to fine tune your adjustments as well. My Findings where it was pretty much dead on, I also did my settings with the light on low beam to start with. then tested it with the high beam on. NOTE:: you will also have to re-adjust your running lights as well if you already have them installed. I think if you get close to my sizes it will still work or get you close. Any Questions feel free to email me. Jeff
9. I'm attempting to remove and replace the headlight bulb without cracking the fairing (at the suggestion of the experts here!) Before I break something, I thought I would get a little help/explanation on removing the bulb from the experts. I've attached some photos showing the back of the bulb. Question is...how do I remove the bulb? There was some discussion on a "spring clip" that holds the bulb in place. Is the tab with "top" written on it the spring clip? Do I simply push it forward (up) away from the wiring receptacle? Can someone fill in the blanks for me? Any other hints/tips/tricks would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
10. Does anyone know if the 1st Gen MkII headlight glass can be separated from the plastic housing. There are clips on the side of it but doesn't want to come apart. Headlight out light on computer moniter is on but the light is on. The light burned out indicator the white light is always on. The light will not switch to bright but the high bulb is ok.
11. I've reviewed the headlight posts and can't seem to find a solution to my problem. I have an idea what it is. The headlight warning kicks on randomly, but the headlight remains lit. If I toggle the high beam/low beam, the light goes out for a little while. It was with just the high beam, and would go off when I switched to low beam. Now it will come on randomly on either low or high beam and will randomly go out (the warning, not the headlight). Flipping the headlight switch usually works temporarily. I'm wondering if it's an issue of Computer cold-soldering...or a bad headlight switch? Any ideas? Thanks.
12. Since BMW Motorrad presented the six-cylinder Concept 6 last fall, rumors have circulated about what model might receive such a potent engine. Today BMW announced that its compact in-line six motorcycle engine—claimed to offer 160 horsepower and 129 pound-feet of torque—will go into two new models: K 1600 GT and K 1600 GTL. The K 1600 GT is said to strike a balance between a sporty riding position and long-distance comfort, with a comfortable ergonomic triangle. Standard features will include xenon (HID) headlight, heated grips and seat, cruise control and on-board computer. The K 1600 GTL will be BMW’s flagship touring model. Rider and passenger will benefit from relaxed, upright seating. Standard features will include a top trunk with passenger backrest, xenon headlight, heated grips and seat, cruise control and on-board computer. Highlights of the K 1600 GT / K 1600 GTL: * In-line six-cylinder engine with peak output of 160 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and 129 lb-ft of torque at 5,000 rpm, with over 70% of maximum torque available from 1,500 rpm * E-Gas (ride-by-wire) * Three modes (Rain, Road, Dynamic) * BMW Motorrad Integral ABS * Dynamic Traction Control (optional) * Chassis with Duolever and Paralever suspension * Electronic Suspension Adjustment ESA II (optional) * Adaptive Headlight (optional) with standard xenon headlight and lighting rings for increased safety at night * Multi-Controller, TFT color screen and menu guidance * Audio system with preparation for navigation device and controllable interface for iPod, MP3, USB, Bluetooth and satellite radio K 1600 engine is the lightest and most compact in-line six in production, weighing just 226.2 lbs. and measuring 22 in. wide. 13. Several years ago I went to Walmart and picked up a couple of fog/running lights for about $16. I mounted them in the front vents which are useless to me with the lower fairings removed and I really like how well they work. They give a good pattern out to about 100 feet and also give good light down around my feet. Since I have them wired to the battery thru a fuse and switch, if for some reason I blew the main 40 amp fuse, which I did once, I still have lights and I think that is a great safety feature. I also upgraded my MKI headlight to a MKII light assemble and with a PIAA headlight bulb, I actually have pretty good lights for an 83 model. RandyA
14. I have visers on my running lights but not my headlight. Would like to add to headlight and signals. can anyone tell me if you can but a viser on headlight without removing the fairing. P.S. thank You to all who have put on pictures of M D day in Oberlin. looked like fun, hope I can make it next year.
15. How do I adjust the headlight on a 2nd Gen? Do I have to remove the Headlight ring? Craigr
16. hello people got a code of E4 on the computer, book says something about solenoid output? did the whole wire check and jumping to insure the compressor is working and the valves and yes all clicking and working, but there is a relay underneath headlight how do you check that or would that even be my problem sure could use help thanks
17. I own a 2007 VR and would like brighter headlight and passing lights . Some of my rideing is done late at night (I work 4pm to 12am ) and I don't feel that the stock bulbs are bright enough for me to see all the 4 legged critters , big and small . Would like to know what others have tried and use , would like to get the brightest possible. Don't care if I look like a plane landing on a runway . Just want the light to be bright as possible . I have my passing lights hooked up so that when I turn on my high beams they come on and they are off on low beam . Thanks for any help .
18. I have a '99 RSTD. The other morning I lost power to the headlight, speedo, and brake light. I found the fuse panel with the 20 amp fuse for the headlight and it looks like it had a big meltdown. I pulled the fuse out with a pair of needle nose pliers ( it was melted and came out in about three pieces). I cleaned up the fuse panel, put another fuse in and all is OK now with the headlight and speedo light but I have no brake light. I changed the bulb and still no luck. Is there a separate fuse block with a fuse for the brake light? The previous owner put a modulator in for the brake light but I don't think that has anything to do with it. Thanks for any help.
19. I think I know how you are supposed to adjust your headlight, but not sure where you do the adjustment on the headlight. I see two small recessed horizontal screws one on each side at the bottom of the headlight. If this is the adjustment then, facing the headlight, which screw is for the vertical and which for the horizontal? I've tried turning them and can't see the difference. If this is not it, then where? Thanks for any help!
20. Hello all, I was riding tonight when some &$%!!## stopped dead in front of me and the person I was riding with and pulled slightly to the side of the road. At a stop light a half mile ahead we were turning left, the putz in the car pulled up beside me to go right and said "your high beams are on". When I told him they were not (showed him) he said they were too bright and in his eyes. Yeah, he stopped in front of me because he does not know how to flip up his mirrors and no, I wasn't really happy about that and kindly let him know it. Even though I felt bad that I may be blinding someone with my Silverstar bulb it wasn’t worthy of a possible death sentence. And no, I didn’t do the typical freak out thing, while he might not like bikers I didn’t want to fuel the fire. When I got home I checked to see what the official "correct" headlight height was for where I live (SE PA). I can't find it. Fog lights yeah, the big shiny light – nah. So I looked on line. Ooookay… 17’, 20’, 25’ – the only thing people seemed to agree on was “measure to the center of your headlight and then down two inches” for where the low beams are supposed to be. It seems pretty elementary to have a measurement for the headlight – can anyone help me here with the “official” way to aim a headlight? Thanks, gp
21. Duplication from another post on the "watering hole".
22. Thinking about some kind of headlight protection for the Alaska trip. Anyone tried this 3M product? I have their paint protection product on the Space Shuttle (RV) and it seems to work good. http://www.webbikeworld.com/t2/motorcycle-headlight/
23. My lens is cracked and I can't find just a lens for sale anywhere, the only way I can see to buy it is the whole assembly with the mounting flange and adjusters for like $125 at the cheapest. Anyone know of a place that sells just the glass? or have any cheap alternative to replace it? Would it be possible to just use a plain sealed beam headlight even?
24. I've been thinking about adding a relay to power the headlight hi/lo directly from the battery, essentially bypassing the connection through the CMU. It could be done using one relay with normally closed going to the lo beam with the switched circuit going to the hi beam operated by the dimmer switch. Or alternatively using one relay for each of the hi and lo beams. I pulled this quote from another thread. Gary what relay option did you use? The first one would seem the simplest but may not allow the lo beam to be shut off by the start circuit.
25. Hi guys (and gals), Hope all are enjoying the early spring. The other night I took the Venture out (89 model) and did not get far. Headlight was pointing down towards the ground. Tried the adjusting nut, no change. Next day I went to investigate. Took the front headlight moulding off, and lo and behold, the freaking headlight unit is attached with 2 wire ties, were I am assuming there should be 2 bolts. I don't know what I have gotten into, bike came with a clear title but all kinds of alarms are going off. Did I get a wrecked bike that was rebuilt? Confidence is low right now.
