Does anyone know the size of the big nut on top of the steering head????????? A few of my sockets seem to have gotten legs and can't find one that fits.....Thanks....

While I was in the process of changing the tires, I tightened the steering head nuts as Freebird describes in the maint section. Question being this: After 32,000 +/- miles, is 1/4 to 1/3 turn too much or about right? Steering feels ok, so I guess that is all that really matters. -
:soapbox:From a thread here I purchased the HID head light kit from a manufacturer in Canada. This was a plug and play easy install. Before I putit all back together I tried and it worked as promised. Then testing again and all was fine. When secured all wiring I tested again and nothing. I hear the igniter but no light. I checked all wiring and all tested fine. Tested again a nothing. No ignitor buzz or light. So I took it all off. Any clues, suggestion other than returning it. Thanks:confused24:

Does the Venture make my head big? Actually, this is still a project in the works. The guy that is doing this caricature is excellent...he is only part of the way done with this so far. Can't wait to see the finished product. Here's a couple of comparison pics...this guy is good...very good.

For any that may be wondering.... I'm still here, just up to my neck in doctors! Saw the neurologist and ENT this morning for test results. I have major nerve damage in my right arm, mild/moderate in my left arm/elbow. No cure for it but time and pain medicine. He isn't sure I will ever recover completely, though he won't come out and say it. So I am now just playing the waiting game. As for my head, structurally everything is in place but the ENT said I had obvious signs of head trauma. Being thrown over a Nissan Altima after being hit head on seems to cause that. I'm a fighter so I will continue on. I see the orthopedic doctor next week and may ask to go back to work. Honestly I don't know if I can handle it, but there is only one way to find out. CLASS head needed for parts

Does anyone have a working or non working CLASS controller head that they would part with cheap to help a member out. I have been working with Curtis, trying to get his CLASS system working to no avail. He bought a unit from Shawn Hess that was not working and I tried it in my bike and it didn't work there either. Bongobobby brought a unit to MD that also was not working. Both units have the upper circuit board malfunctioning, not the lower one that is covered in the tech section. I determined this by swapping boards out with my working unit. Could not see anything obvious with either one. Gary -
Life is great when simple things come together. After great suggestions by the boards, I ordered a white boostaroo revolution amplifier ($21.95) and a volume enhancer ($7.60) for my ipod, mp3 and Android phone. Took off the windshield strapped on my half helmet plugged in the boostaroo and drove up to Lake Tahoe hitting 75 mph with Bob Seager and Santana inside my head. WOW it is right in your head! So much better than my custom ear buds ($225) and the sound really is super clear. I miss my Khrome Werks rumble but hey cruising back with Willie and Ludwig inside with snow capped mountain is great. I called Boostroo up to thank them for a very inexpensive alternative and they told me that they would give us $5 off their black revolution (29.95) by typing in VRIDERS on the promo box a checkout. I buying three more for a DU silent auction. Happy 4th eat plenty of hot dogs and watch baseball Max

The hubby put a new battery in the 05 Venture and now our head sets don't work.....I tried finding a thread about the subjet but didn't find anything....anyway, the hubby has been swamped and hasn't had time to read the manual. My question is...when you change the battery, does he need to reset the radio/speakers/etc? and if so is it easy? Thanks Deb

Ok, so I'm in a hurry to meet my buddies for a little ride tonight. I bug out go about 5 miles to meet at the gas station then we head out, tonight I am sweep. 4 more miles down the road I glance back and I am missing the side bag cover on the right side!!! I always check to be sure these things are latched down, well almost always. So I am no in search of a lid for my side bag on a '98 Royal Star Tour Deluxe. They are solid molded plastic. If anyone has an extra one for the right side (they are different) or know where else I can look ( I am heading to ebay next) give me a shout. Like Forest always says, "Stupid is as stupid does" or something like that. Bone head in Georgia.

Well ....We didn't make it home, But we made it to Sturbridge, Mass. Going to see the Grand-Daughters in the mourning!:dancefool: Good road and weather all the way here to the Comfort Inn. Only problem we had was when we stopped for lunch , was that Carl and the rest of them Crazy Canooks had stirred up a hornet's nest with the waitress. I thought she was going to put a Knot on Carl's head......she was a tuff one . Tougher than Carl will admit ! But she was Good . Should have had her at the Pizza Hut Friday night. BEER30

I have been working with one of our members, helping him install a CLASS system in an 88 standard 1st gen. He got a bad controller from ebay. He sent me his controller & compressor to check. The compressor is fine. Control head has deeper problems than the solder joint repair. I swapped my lower board with his and it did not correct problem. Also disassembled upper half of controller and saw no visible problems. Cleaned all contacts to no avail. If anyone could help a brother out, it would be appreciated by him. Gary

We’re starting the count down and getting excited. Friday around noon we head out on a two-week tour. Heading East State side to Maine then north to Cape Breton around the Cabot Trail, west to the Gaspe Peninsula then homeward bound through Quebec. So if you see a pair of Yamaha’s give a wave and a honk, we’ll stop for a chat, coffee, etc… P.S. The girl on the red one still has a big smile. Pearle whites will give us away. We decided to bring our camping gear just in case, we’re bringing our Dog with us. Between pet friendly hotels and camping we should be okay. None of our stops are planned, so hopefully we don’t run into an area that’s all booked up. Today we bought a t-bag dog carrier let you know how that works out. Funny watching her poke her head out the top to look around. Wish us good roads, fair weather, and a safe trip. Thanks

Goin' to fill in the rest of my map in the area and get a saddlebag from Jonesy at Americade later the following week. Probably leavin' thursday night the 3rd of june, head south to the middle of IL and then head east through Indy and take I70 to the middle of PA and then down to DC. From there I'll be trying to ride in all those states but also trying to miss the big cities. When I get to Maine, I'm going to see if that "Haynesville road is just a ribbon of ice" in june, and then head back west to Mt Washington and then to Lake George. I'll keep posting to this thread as I go, but I'll probably camp quite a few nights so it may not be often as the trip progresses. If anyone lives along I70 in western Pa that would like company for a night next Friday, let me know. Beyond that, I have know idea where I'll end up at this point, but would like to meet a few more folks from here if it works out. Later, Scooter Bob

Have a 87 royal and am having some head light problems. The light will come on sometimes, and other times won't turn on. All i have done is check the light plug on the back of the head light. When it works, i have power, but when it doesn't work, i don't have any power. DUH. When the light works, i have high and low beams. Where do i start on this problem? Thanks Aaron

I am trying to do the steering head adjustment but I cannot for the life of me get that top nut loose. I've tried channel locks, even clamped on locking pliers and hammered the end, tried putting a pipe on the end .... all no go. That is one tight nut. Any suggestions .... I dont have a wrench big enough for the head, and the darn space is so small. I presume it isnt a reverse thread and its "lefty lucy". Aaaargh!

My 2008 Venture went from 38/40 MPG to 23 MPG right after my 600 mile service. Can someone help me. I checked with the head mechanic at te dealership and he told me to keep my foot out of the carbs. HELP!!!!

Will be riding with a my local group called the Carolina Faith Riders this coming weekend. We usually stay in Raphine Va., but this year we will be staying in Waynesboro Va. at the Days Inn. We will head up Friday and plan on riding Skyline Drive on Saturday, maybe getting off around the Luray exit. Hope to ride route 39 Sunday toward Marlington WV. and head up thru Green Bank WV. May stop to check to the telescope out and get some pictures.Then head on up and get on Rt. 250 and then head back toward Waynesboro va. Anyone got any suggestions. I know there is some great scenery and :Venture:attractions. If anyone wants to join us during that time they are welcome.

I've use HJC CL-33 helmets for years and always wanted a full face helmet but could never get one to work with my fat head. I've tried on every brand, style and price full face helmet and they all pinched my head and pushed my cheeks up to my eyes. I was in a local accessory shop today and stumbled across a full face HJC FS-15 Carbon Fiber Helmet. The helmet is both DOT and SNELL rated. I was intrigued by the carbon fiber and it looked really nice. After admiring it for a few minutes I noticed that it was my size as I started to put it down and thought what the heck, I'll try it on. Was I ever surprised. The helmet fit like a glove and one of the most comfortable helmet I've ever tried. My head wasn't distorted at all once inside. After studying it more I was unsure if I could get a headset installed in it or not. I left the store to do some research on headset installation and after talking to the folks at Sierra Electronics I was convinced it could be done. So, I just ordered two of them (Valerie's needs to match) from this site: http://www.2wt.org/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=0118 They are on closeout and in short supply. Reg retail $449 and they're being closed out at about $235 with shipping. If you ride a blue '07 they have a blue that looks like it would be a perfect match to the bike. And I was told by one store that HJC makes the same helmet branded as Joe Rocket and it can be bought for about $179. I know it is a bit late to ask, but does anyone have any experience with this helmet. Dennis

Ok folks, I need some help.. I just got my set of passenger Highway pegs from Diamond R Accessories for the Misses.. I attemped to remove the rear Hex screw and ended up stripping the head, so I got out my "easy outs". Well the heads of the factory screws are pretty soft and the easy out just ate into it.. Ok now I'm getting a bit pissed off so I get a extractor bit and drilled a pilot hole and try it.. NO LUCK !! My question is, wha't my next course of attack ?? Thanks 06 RSTD

Finally got income coming in so I can come back to a home away from home for my 86 Venture Royale!!! YAY!! However, I have a question about swapping heads. Will a head from an 84 fit and work on an 86? Last fall, everything was running great. Then I had a small backfire while starting the bike and I lost HALF my power. After doing a Leakdown test and Compression test, it seems I need a valve job. HOWEVER, I have a good head that was given to me off an 84. All the measurements are within specs. I just need to know if they will swap or do i need to do the valve job on the 86 and put it back on the bike? Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. I NEED to get back on the bike.
