  1. While looking through some old pictures when I was stationed oversea and while on a trip to Italy, I found this picture of REAL curvey road.
  2. I have been riding for a litle over 37 years now and I have never had a flat tire. Well so much for luck, I have one now and the bike only has 2700 miles on it. It doesn't supprise me with all the new houses going up in this area. I have picked up dozens of nails and sheet rock screws in the road while out for walks. Looks like my rear tire found a #8 nail. I'm in the market for a new rear tire, does anyone recommend a dealer with good prices and fast shipping? The local stealer wants $198.00 for a Bridgeston, he's NUTS!
  3. I just sold my 86VR a couple months ago, because it left me stranded on the roadside 4 times last year. Fixed everything, but wife said, it had to go....[Mama says...] Sold it easy enough. Found a great deal on a Goldwing, low miles, good price, much newer. Everyone knows they're excellent scoots so I got it. Took it to the shop for complete check-over, new tires, brakes, Odessey battery, etc., etc. Temps heading for the 70s today, so off we went. We got 5 miles down the road & it just died...instantly at 55 mph, I downshifted & popped clutch while moving, but nothing. Tried to start it, but battery only lasted for about 1 minute, then dead. I checked everything I could, but found nothing. AARP couldn't find a tow, so they called 911 & are supposed to reimburse the $95. for flatbed ride home, since shop was closing. This makes 5 times stranded within a year....& year isn't up yet. Scoot's going to the shop ASAP, Tow #6?, [3rd different shop], but whatever they fix & tell me, I'll have little confidence in the bike. Maybe it's time to give up ridin' & take up fishin'. How to break a streak like this?
  4. Report on CNN says 1 in every 100 Americans are in Jail or Prison right now. Yammer Dan is a Busy Man lol. He`s way under paid for sure.Hope this does not offend anyone.I just found it amazing.
  5. My mom told me about seeing this on the local news in NY so I looked it up and found the article with pics. Here it is: http://www.readingeagle.com/article.aspx?id=40534 Thought you all would enjoy seeing this. It's definitely interesting. Margaret
  6. After finally getting back into ripping the bike apart for the 2nd gear fix, I found the previous owner removed the battery vent hose. As you can tell from the pics, I've got some paint to redo, but the biggest thing is I now need a new battery box bracket. This goes across the frame and the box sits on it. Also looking for some cleaner front pipes as these are pretty well shot, unless someone can give me an idea as to how to clean them up. Going to be a long process, as I wasn't expecting this much to do, but it's apart, and might as well get done. Also found acid corrosion on the box terminals and just about everywhere else. Gonna put new valve cover gaskets on, too! Top and front of the motor looks NASTY!!! Oh well, back to work!!!
  7. Any one know of a good and active mercury/ford car forum? I found a cuouple via search but they are dead.
  8. I sold this bike to a friend and he is changing all brake lines and the Front Left Brake Line tied to Rear he can not find and was told that Yamaha no longer makes this brake line. Has anyone found a replacement from some other source.. I mentioned going to a car parts and sizing up.. And never hurts to ask if someone has found one to work. From what he tells me it is close to 2' long.. Joe in NJ
  9. I found these from JC and wondered if anyone had mounted these or tried. http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2000645/c-10111/Nty-1/p-2000645/Ntx-mode+matchallpartial/N-10111/tf-Browse/s-10101/Ntk-AllTextSearchGroup?Ntt=deflector I rode a wing with them awhile back and liked them so I was wondering.
  10. Does any one have a list of salvage yards or used parts venders or ebay stores? I've got my Venture home and have started removing the cracked plastic , left side only damage. I found the side cover on ebay and have already bought it. I'm bidding on the headlight ring and small vent in the front but I haven't found the upper left side fairing. If anyone has one or knows who might have one please let me know. I can probably repair what I have but would rather replace it if I can. thanks
  11. Back in December I gave myself an early Christmas Present and found a set of new diaphragms for my 89vr on E-bay for a very affordable $41.00 needless to say I was all over them like oil drips under a Harley! Tonight I finally got out to the garage and replaced the diaphragms, much easier than I anticipated and I also found that the front left plug boot was very very loose, probably a 3/4" gap between electrode and plug tip. Well since I bought the 89 1 1/2 years ago it has been pretty doggy in the acceleration dept. However tonight when I took the old girl out with her new diaphragms..... WOW!!! now this rides like a 1300cc bike, I get full extension out of the front forks under acceleration, throttle response is a 100% better, cant wait till I put new plugs in her and resink the carbs. Just a note for those who use liquid electrical tape to patch their diaphragms be very careful when I pulled the old diaphragms out which I had used the liquid tape on, I found that it had flaked badly and the air bleed holes were covered. Now that the bike seems to be running better can't wait for the meet and eat later on this month.
  12. I find this kind of interesting. Developed for the European market. Take a look at the links. Found this when on another search. Different than what they are marketing here. http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/Content/Pages/home.jsp?locale=nl_BE http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2006/10/10/new-harley-davidson-xr1200/#comments
  13. I found a new screen cleaner here: http://files.timothyhumphrey.com/screenclean.swf

    This is SureFoot

Here is my new Bike......all I can tell you is it is a Dandy. Has ABS brakes and radial tires....so I have named it SureFoot. Also a couple photos of an Confederate memorial I found by the Savanaha River.....by the long way home, 264 miles. With heated grips and Seats and toe warmers and motor air vents......pretty warm.
  15. Just when I thought things were going my way after the accident in Nov, things went south again. I was able to find some good used parts at a good price and was about ready to start the winter tear down to do my service and replace the plastic so it will be ready for spring. But to my amazement it was not to be. It started with a "headache from Hell" that lasted for 3 weeks. I went to the doctor and he found a whopping sinus infection and both ears infected. I though OK, that would explain my balance being off a bit. I was called out the next day to cover on a boat that had had a man quit unexpectedly. Once I got on I found I was having trouble staying awake and concentrating. Then I started having trouble getting my left foot to raise up high enough to walk up a flight of stairs. As my balance was getting worse I requested that I be relieved so I could seek medical attention. My wife picked me up at the airport the next day and took me to the ER at home. I was sent in for a CT scan of the brain, yes there IS one, and they found a VERY large blood clot compressing my brain. It seemed like within the hour I was shoved into a helicopter and air flighted to Nashville Tn. A surgeon was standing by and at 0140 Friday morning I was taken into surgery. He removed a chunk of my skull, took out 150 cc, about 6 ounces, of blood, then super glued the skull back together and went on his way. I woke up around 0400 Friday morning minus a headache and really feeling great. I had regained the strength in my left side and looked like I will have a full recovery. Of course I do have a scar that makes me look like Frankenstien but I will some how milk that for all of the sympathy I can get. I realize I could have told this story in about half the words, but then where would have been the drama of all of the pain and suffering. Hey,,if you're gonna get a flip-top skull, you might as well brag about it. Squidley, I'm glad you and Lona are doing OK. I did find time to say a prayer for you.
  16. Found this in our local AutoRV mag http://auto-rv.com/browse.aspx?AdName=CI5390032 Nice bike from looking at it. If anyone wants me to put eyeballs on it, let me know. Dan
  17. Eileen is a great photographer but she uses a 35mm camera and we haven't got the film developed yet. Here are a few pics that our son Dylan took with his little digital camera though. As you can see, Eileen and I found the fireplace at the lodge to be a great place to hang out. The first picture is of Round Lake shot through the screened window of our cabin.
  18. If you are a fan of the old time train displays, here is the one we have in Cincinnati, Ohio. It has been a holiday tradition since 1946. We went there today.. I found this on U Tube of the display that someone taped last year. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uv3zjXJ9VVA]YouTube - The Duke Energy Train Display 2006[/ame] Peggy

  20. I have just returned from a job in Milton doing a sound proofing for a studio among other things for an individual . Because of the guys on here I was really looking forward to this week in the north. But to my surprise I was met with some bad attitudes from some when some of the locals found out I was from " The States" . Don't take me wrong some where very nice ,but others where not so nice. Am I missing something? Why is this ? Thanks .......Fred
  21. Last week I had a rotational knocking sound between 5 and 10mph and a wobble on hard acceleration.Well I took the rear wheel off today to find the problem and I found that the wheel bearing at the differential was Gone and the drive cog in the differential was loose. Would a second gen still have gotten me home from a 300 mile run at 80 to 90 mph? Here are some pics of what I found and what the parts should have looked like The bike was still pulling strong and had very little symptoms. Jeff
  22. I had been looking at several LED lights to replace the stock reflector between the license plate and tail light. Most of what I found was in the area of $25 and $40. I thought that was a bit much. Well, yesterday, I was at Bass Pro Shops and found what I was looking for in the area of the boat trailer supply area. It is an LED clearance/marker light about 1/2 inch shorter than the reflector. I had to elongate the holes in the reflector mounting bracket to get it installed but it took about 10 minutes total to do the whole thing. I wired it into the brake light so it only comes on when the brake is activated. The best part was it only cost $9.99!!
  23. when it rains it pours, 4 bikers killed on Long Island last weekend......bunch more hurt......... get to work this morning and find we had 2 bike accidents this morning, one looks like the guy hit a deer, one of our officers found him on the side of the road (under the bike)..no idea how long he'd been there, no deer found but they found hair on the front of the bike. Local guy, I kinda knew him, did the tile work in his kitchen a few years ago. Other one hit a deer about 6 this AM, not hurt too bad but the bike is messed up. Another local, don't know if I know him or not yet, didn't get his name. These darn deer are getting tough man...............
  24. Just got in an hour ago. We spent the night in Misissippi. Did a total of 857 miles. It was a great trip and I am glad that Lewis set it up and we decided to go. There were 12 bikes if I counted right and my wife rode 2 up with me. We learned a lot about the place and found out the donation that we make every month, for the last couple of years, goes to a great cause. It makes me want to do more. Will post some pics shortly. It was also great to see old friends and make new ones. Thanks again Lewis for setting this up and for caring.
  25. I just found this web site. Lots of information the basic operation of carburators, if anybody is interested. I was looking for info on setting float levels, when I just found the site. http://hondanighthawks.net/carbhelp.htm?
