  1. I think we should have the rally here in Florida. Why? 1. It's Florida! 2. Beaches 3. It's Florida! 4. Theme parks 5. It's Florida! 6. A lot of lightly traveled, back roads. Some with lots of twisties. 7. Did I mention it's Florida? 8. Year round riding weather. 9. Finally, it's Florida!
  2. Tires eh? I never thought of that. I have the Yammy original Bridgestone tires on and have just over 7000 miles on them. I know that is not alot of miles but with being down for a couple surgeries and the rain last summer, it was the best I could do. Thanks for the info.
  3. I have noticed recently a whine coming from the rear end when going through left curves. It seems most noticable when the bike is in 4th and 5th gear. I do not hear it when going through right hand curves. I have read about clicking noises in earlier posts but this is a loud whine. I also am certain that it is not the tranny whine you hear on metric bikes. Anyone got any ideas? Is it a bad bearing? I have not been able to get to the shop yet to have it checked out.
  4. Talking about myself here! The weather in Florida the last few days has been colder than usual. Since the RSTD is kept in the garage over night, I had to use the choke the other morning to get the bike started. After a few minutes of high idle, I pushed the choke in A LITTLE to slow it down. Got on the helmet, climbed on board, and set off for a short trip to the next town for a Dr. visit. I immediately noticed that the bike was not running "right". It was a little sluggish and idled slow. In fact, it even stalled at a traffic light. I thought that maybe the idle had gotten turned down too far somehow so, when I got to my appointment, I turned it up a bit. On my return home, it was still not right. I stopped at a gas station and filled the tank, thinking maybe I got some bad fuel. I started the bike and, for reasons I can't explain, I leaned over and checked the choke knob. IT WAS STILL OUT! No wonder it was running like crap. O.K. you cold weather residents, stop laughing!
  5. I have the Kuryakyn controller on my bike. The brake lights flash 3 times when the brakes are applied and then stay on solid. They now have direct wire harnesses so you don't have to splice stuff together anymore. I have the old splice system but it was still pretty easy.
  6. The LED that I originally posted about is only a little light that replaces the rear reflector. If you want an LED tail light, go with Radiantz. The LED board plugs into the existing socket that you bulb goes into and is 100 times brighter. Go to http://www.radiantz.com/ and click on led motorcycle tail lights then click on Yamaha. The RSTD, Venture and Roadstar all have the same tail light. You cant beat the price, either!!
  7. The light I got is from Radiantz and just was reduced in price to $59.95. I have to say that this light is at least 50 times brighter than original and plugs into the stock bulb outlet. I love it. I also used Radiantz turn signal LED's and they are even brighter with the clear lenses. Tail light: http://www.radiantz.com/c12.html Turn signals: http://www.radiantz.com/c32.html
  8. The light is sold under the name "Utility Lighting Innovation". Made by Unified Marine, Inc. http://unifiedmarine.net/cgi-bin/htmlos.exe/003.1.119223303900003196 Part number 50023840 Photo 1 is light off. Photo 2 is brake applied and light on. The tail light and turn signal lights are very bright and almost drown out the new one. They are from Radiantz.
  9. I had been looking at several LED lights to replace the stock reflector between the license plate and tail light. Most of what I found was in the area of $25 and $40. I thought that was a bit much. Well, yesterday, I was at Bass Pro Shops and found what I was looking for in the area of the boat trailer supply area. It is an LED clearance/marker light about 1/2 inch shorter than the reflector. I had to elongate the holes in the reflector mounting bracket to get it installed but it took about 10 minutes total to do the whole thing. I wired it into the brake light so it only comes on when the brake is activated. The best part was it only cost $9.99!!
  10. Man, I didn't even think about that. I am glad I did not start tearing things apart before I put the question out. Thanks.
  11. Summer is just around the corner and I have been giving some consideration to removing the front cowling. The only hesitation I have is what to do with the air filters. My question to all you much more intelligent wrenches is, can I remove the cowling without damage to the engine and what to do with the air intake? Can I modify this somehow? I have been unable to find any type of velocity stack or hyper charger to put in its place. Any thoughts or ideas, even if you all say it can not be done, is appreciated. BTW, I have the air defectors on the bike already. Works great when the temps are around 80 to 90. When we hit the triple digits, especially on the new asphalt roads, they don't seem as effective.
  12. I have Bub Sleepers on my RSTD that came from a Venture. No problems.
  13. I just installed the light bar on my RSTD and it does look different than the one you have. I would not be surprised if they sold you the wrong one. I have been sold stuff for Road Stars from the stealership on several occasions.
  14. I went with the offset arms and the Zombie pegs, since I am going with skulls on this bike. They turned out cool. Thanks again to everyone that replied.
  15. I remember seeing the clear vu at Biketoberfest. I am gonna grab a bottle at Bikeweek and try it out. I will let you all know how it works. Thanks to everyone for your replys and suggestions.
