  1. Finally got a chance to ride to work yesterday, was a balmy 43 when I left for work, 1st time in over a month I have ridden either of my bikes. Will be riding again today, it is 34 now ,still a lot better than it was for the past 4 weeks. Hopefully spring is just around the corner. .....................................................................................................
  2. Last Friday, the storm that went up the east coast changed from rain to snow just south of me. at about 10pm I lost my cable and internet service. I still have a few snowy channels on the tv, but that is it. Before it was over, we got at least 6 inches of heavy snow that is still here. It is supposed to be about 47 by tomorrow, so it should start melting soon. I don't remember a time in the past that I looked so forward to coming to work. The first thing I did when I got here was to go on the internet and pull up VentureRider.org. Finally, the withdrawals are subsiding and I am trying to get some work done. Man, this has been a tough 2 1/2 days. I really feel for those without power and internet. I have been there, done that and it ain't fun. RandyA
  3. Well my last day of college finally came yesterday. Now I get to rejoin the rest of the working folks.
  4. Charlene is finally going to have her surgery to correct her back problems........they cant do it till after the first of the year, Jan. 4 is when it will happen, she will have two procedures while she is in one for the scoliosis and the other for spinal stenosis. One will take place on Monday and the second will take place on Thursday, she will be in the hospital anywhere from one to two weeks ......Tried to get it done before the end of the year since all our deductibles were met, but his schedule was full. So if you would please keep Charlene in your prayers..........she has had a rough time of it for the last 2-3 years..........I dont know how she has done it, but she has. Recovery will take quiet a while........
  5. Today i put the tci from my 93 into my 90 started right way so that was the problem sure a pain to do but now both will be on top of the airbox. Mine acted up for years it had a burp but then lately is been getting worse finally 3 weeks ago it quite for good. now well ride it like we stole it. Is there someone out there that repairs them, would like to get that bad one fixed... THANKS YOOPER
  6. I just got off the phone with Jeff and they finally got to TK. Now they get to wait to be taken to wherever they will get to sleep. They spent over 12 hrs waiting at the airport to find out if they were going or not. They had to sneak off to get food, because they weren't suppose to leave. Can't spend that long waiting for food, he's a venture rider member. Anyway those folks that asked what he might need I'll have to let you know when they get to check the place out. Right now he's looking forward to finding the shower and the bed. Margaret
  7. I been out car shopping with the oldest daughter.Car dealers thought we were crazy. We want to buy this much car $$$$ for this much money $$. It must have ground clearance and be AWD. They all went HUH WHY? CREEK crossing gets them every time.We finally found a usable SUBARU. How many cars does it take to get through college? This is number 6.
  8. Okay here's one i've never heard here before. Since I've had my 85 there has been an intermittent noise like a bad bearing somewhere in the front end. I finally located the noise as coming from my speedometer. It happens most on cold mornings and is high pitched and at times so loud it leaves my ears ringing when if finally stops. It used to stop after i got below 15 mph. Now it will continue until the bike is fully stopped. It will stop after a few miles and then only periodically return while riding before stopping all togther. I pulled the speedometer cable and oiled and greased it . I checked the ends for wear but there is none. So its not the cable it has to be in the speedo itself. What the heck could it be and is there some way to fix it without having to replace the speedo all together? Its so loud that my son could hear it while riding beside me as we rode through town. Help!
  9. Finally got the tour-pack on thanks to the bracket from (member) naturbar. The 1998 TC is a little different from the late model TDs, in that there were no quick mount lugs and the rear holes are a little more than a inch different. Oh well, after I finally convinced the parts guy at the stealership that quick mount lugs were in the '05 TD parts book, not in the accessories book I got them ordered. Cut the stand-offs off the bracket and redrilled the holes. One twice, after my machinist son-in-law mis-measured:doh:. Anyway now it's on...
  10. After much thought I finally built it. A buddy of mine bought a bushtech trailer so after looking at his. It wasnt that much to it. Here are sum pics still need lights. I also made my own hide away hitch.
  11. I have a Garmin GPS that it suddenly seems to take a loong time to find the Satellites. - Maybe 5 or 10 minutes. My wife couldn't get it to locate ANY while she was in Dallas. She finally gave up and got the paper map out. Recently, while on a 2-week trip I carried the GPS in the leather bag on my windshield. Could the vibrations have damaged it? craigr
  12. Well, I finally got it on today, and I was very nervous about this whole process. I went very well, got the old one off easily, the new one went on, not quite as easily as the old one came off, but not too bad. It's a Nexen, 165-80/15 that I had Diamond Back vulcanize a 2 1/4" whitewall on each side. I NEED whitewalls!!!!!!!! NOW, beading it up was another thing, did it probabaly 6 times total, each time adding a little more air,and finally (with lowell's sugestion) a little WD-40, and when it popped, made me jump for sure, but it's on, and balanced. Now waiting for my Harley Davidson, rear, MT-90-16 to come on Tue, and then I'll mount that one backwards on the front. This is a Dunlop 402 MT-90/16 WWW, which is 1 3/4". All I can say is that the first bunch of miles should be very interesting! Steve

    ECK finally did it...

...but it took him all the way from Colorado to Georgia to get it done, even then it took a little help from 86er. Those of us at the International meet in '07 know what I'm talking about.
  14. finally got em done........ http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/2009%20International%20-%20Cinderella/
  15. Warden and I were out taking care of some things last night. Around 4:00 PM we stopped at Rally's mainly because we had not eaten there. I didn't like the looks of the place when we walked in but we stayed. I had Burford Combo and the Warden had Mushroom and Swiss. Were not inpressed by them but ate them. Came home and about 2:30 in the morning my eyes popped open and I headed for the bathroom. One of those trips sitting down with trash can between knees. Things went downhill fast. Bloated up til I looked like I was 9 months and ready to pop. Suffered the rest of the night wondering if I was going to die!! Finally got loaded up and headed for Emergency Room. Wasn't driving son was driving. Got about 10 miles from hospital and started noticing change. We got to emergency room and turned around and came home. WE DIDN'T STOP AT RALL'YS!!! My stomach is still sore. Having a small bowl of chicken noodle and a grilled cheese tonight. Think I might Live!! My Black Cloud doing some more OT!!
  16. It always feels good when you have put off something and then finally get to it and get it done. Well, I had put off splitting the fairing even though I have done it at least 4 times before. I just did not want to do it. I had to figure out why my right front running light did not work. The turn signal worked, but no running light. The visor on the headlight also need to be fixed. Well I finally got around to it Saturday night. Split the fairing, and fixed the visor. That was the simple part. Took all the wiring apart that runs to the passing lamps and found a broken wire that made the running lights work. Put everything back together and it all works. Oh what a feeling to finally get it done. Just thought I would share. Have a great day if you want to.
  17. At 2:10 on July 30th 2009 the Lord blessed us with a 7lb, 15oz grandson named Austin Bradley.  Both mama and baby are doing fine, but I don't think we will ever get that grin off of the proud papa's face. Not to mention both sets of grandparents... :rotfl: I promise to take pics today and will post them later. Now for the bad news. Since the Warden has STILL NOT been able to return to work since the surgery on her foot, this was 9 weeks ago, I will not be able to make it to The Hub this weekend. HOWEVER, I WILL make it to Vogel for those that are sorely disappointed that I wont show up at the International Rally . I was really looking forward to finally getting to meet some of the people that I see on here. Oh well, maybe next year. For everyone that is traveling this week, my prayers are that all of your travels will be done safely.
  18. After much bother I finally got the Kumno beaded on the rim. The first tire would not come up all the way around on one side. The folks At Discount Tire swapped it for a new one. Same problem, but on the opposite side of the rim. After everyone pretty much gave up, I contacted a truck tire repair shop. At least he wasn't afraid to squeeze a bunch of air into it. Previously I had gone up to 100+ psi. He had a can of some really slick stuff called "Bead Breaker". That and about 120 psi or so and it finally popped on completely. Now, after about 15 miles of riding on it I think I'll have to play with the pressure. I am running 35 psi and when accelerating in a turn it feels like it wants to slip a bit. Maybe drop the pressure a few #s and try it again. Otherwise it's great.

  21. OK folks, when I finally got around to checking my email yesterday afternoon, I had 997 emails waiting. Then when I started trying to check them, I had a problem with Outlook Express "Not Responding" and fought with it until 2:00 this morning and finally went to bed. I then had to get on the road because I have meetings in Grand Rapids, MI this week. I'm now at the hotel in Michigan. I ended up having to delete all my mail folders to get things working again. I tried to save all the ones that were specific emails to me but may have missed a few. Anyway, I'm all caught up now but if you sent me an email or posted something specifically to my attention, please let me know if you did not get a response because I likely didn't see it. Sorry about the problem. Now hopefully tonight I can get back to updating the profiles of all you who have sent in your dues. I really need to get that job finished and then start make the access changes to the forum.

Finally some warm weather has made it our way, after the coldest winter and spring in over 30 years. Yesterday we hit 31C almost 88f finally, today it was a bit windy but 25C almost 78F so Deb and I decided to go for a ride around a few of the lakes in about an hours drive of Regina. Heres a few pics of the day
  25. Ok....I've been around here for a couple of years now. Been reading and asking questions and talking to a lot of you folks by way of these forums. When I trailered my '84 home she didn't run and was in need of some TLC and this site helped me provide that for the bike. Information and an odd part here and there has come to me when I needed it. Some of you have gone way out of your way to provide items for the members in group buys. Thank you for that. Thanks to everybody that has offered advice and information on my projects. You are the reason this club is so different from others. This is a family. And Freebird.....you do one hell of a job keeping all this in running order. So the first pic is when I first finished the bike after bringing her home and got her cleaned up and running. I thought it turned out pretty well. Ahhh... but the second pic is of the bike today. I finally rolled her out of the garage after a long winter and spring of reworking the bike. Again. LOL! So it was the first ride of the year for me and I know how much ya'll love pics. So here are some shots of the changes that I have made and the things that have been added or upgraded. It's been a learning experience for sure. From RickH's upgrade stator and SS lines and Condors "Battle of the MAC" exhaust and CondorBrace to odd eBay finds to items that were DIY stuff. Thanks again to all for helping me pull all this together. Mike
