  1. I've posted on this twice before but today learned something new. First, I bought one of the edsets adapters that let you plug in earbuds with the intercom. I used a pair of earbuds my wife bought at walmart for $14.00. The adapter and earbuds are great except for the click of the engine I hear in the earbuds. I bought a pair of koss earbuds at walmart for $24.00 and I didn't get any engine noise in them so I bought a second adapter so my wife can use earbuds with the intercom also. Today I received the second adpater and plugged in the koss earbuds. Music is great until I started the engine and then click, click, click. I noticed the intercom volume was at 16 so I turned the volume down to zero and guess what? No engine clicking in the earbuds. If you want to listen to music only turn the intercom volume down and there is no noise. This brings another question to mind. If I have the mike mute installed will I get the engine noise when the intercom is set to 16 since the intercom doesn't work until you press the talk button?
  2. I posted a few weeks ago regarding the edsets adapter I ordered so I can use ear buds with the intercom. The adapter works fine but I used a set of ear buds my wife uses with her mp3 player. The ticking of the engine noise was so loud it was unbearable. Well today I went to wal mart and bought a pair of KOSS noise isolating earbuds for $24.88. There is absolutely no engine noise in these earbuds. I never thought that the type of earbuds would make a difference. There is one aggravating thing about the KOSS earbuds. One earbud has a wire that is 6" long and the other earbud wire is 22" long. Why is this?
  3. This is a first for me. The wind blew the bike over today. I guess the cover acted like a sail. There are small dents on the underside of the crash bars, the passing lamp has a very small dent but no scratches, the rght side of the fairing has some scratches and the right engine guard looks like it's bent up about a half inch. The lower is just out of allign now but not a real problem. I guess I got out of it ok. Questions, is the fairing the same color all the way through so that I could just buff the minor scratches out without repainting ('07 RSMV) and how hard would it be to bend the engine guard back the half inch? THIS SUCKS!!!!!

    Spark plug wire set

Quick question: would a set of spark plug wires custom made for the 1200 VR engine fit the 1300 engine? Here is the Ebay link tothe ad:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Venture-Royale-XVZ12-Spark-Plug-Wires-XVZ1200_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2em20Q2el1116QQitemZ220300794452QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories Thanks for the help.
  6. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to touch up the black on the engine? I have some spots that I would like to touch up.
  7. I have A 2007 Blue/Black RSV. Lately, I've been having some engine noise static in my headset. Not bad, just annoying.Doesn't do it all the time, intermittent, comes and goes. I have a tach and was thinking that maybe the tach wire is too close to the headset wire at the neck where they come close together.I was going to wrap the coil wire to the tach in aluminum foil and then wrap with electrical tape and reposition the wires to see if that helps.Any one else had this problem? Is there any thing else I should be looking for?Any help or ideas would be much appreciated.Tach has been on about 8 months and have had a problem for about the last 2 months on and off.I don't know if that is it,but I can't think of what else it could be.Thanks.
  8. I was wondering if someone has any experience with a "racing engine" problem on a first gen Venture. Mine will start running at a higher RPM (about 1500) after a short time in city traffic. It doesn't seem to be stuck cables. The throttle retracts all the way and I can bring it under control at a stop by holding the brake and feathering the clutch in first gear - 1 or 2 times brings it back down to normal. The real problem is any longer diving at highway speeds. After an hour at highway speed the engine will run at 3k when I stop. The clutch method above works but as soon as I let it go, the engine starts climbing to about 3k. It doesn't jump up to 3k but I sure wouldn't call it a creep either. Anyone have any ideas? MikeC

    update on Venture project

It might have been around Labor Day when I last was on the forum here. My husband and I were asked to get my uncle's '83 Venture running. Over the Labor Day weekend, we almost did, then my husband knocked a hole in one of the carb float bowl covers, so we pulled the carbs again and brought them home. Since my uncle lives three hours away, we got a bike trailer and went back for the bike. A busy life and apprehension delayed us pulling the bike off the trailer until a week ago. I patched the hole in the carb with some of that two part epoxy stick the obnoxious guy on television pitches, and we put capfulls of Seafoam in the jets we could get to, and reinstalled the carbs. Yesterday, we drained the fuel tank and put fresh gas in. With coaxing, the engine started and ran, mostly on three cylinders, sometimes four, and for maybe the first time since 1996, the motorcycle actually moved under its own power. My husband was straddling it, letting the engine warm, twisting the throttle, listening for the fourth cylinder to fire. As the old girl warmed and idled without choke, he decided to just see what would happen if he shifted to first and eased out the clutch. She wanted to go, so he, with no seat installed, gingerly putted a couple of laps around the house. Well, that was dicey, so he put a helmet and jacket on, and decided to see if she'd go up and down the street. Second and third gears are fine, and fast enough without a seat, or rear brake, and poor front brake. There's no power to the instrument cluster, or blinkers, or headlight. Not surprising, there appear to be a couple of exaust leaks. The fuel flow valve needs to be replaced. The plastic is crumbled, so the valve can't be turned. We'd like to put a better one on it. I haven't searched yet, but am hoping to find out if others here have replaced their fuel valves with better ones. The one on my Vulcan looks like it'd fit, so I'm hoping I can replace it with a Kawi valve.
  10. can anyone tell me, at what R.P.M., the idle circuit drops off and the main carb circuit takes over? my problem is, if i can't get my engine to idle, then 4 gallons of pure sea foam, isn't going to clean the idle jets, and other idle circuit components. just jt
  11. My cruise control won't engage. The lights all come on like they are supposed to, but it won't engage. I found the thread about the cruise control and a possible vacuum leak. It seem like I saw one where a high idle rpm after the engine gets warm was also because of a vacuum leak. I am having both problems. After the engine gets warmed up it idles at between 2500 and 3000 rpm. Could these be related or caused by the same leak? Thanks for any help you can give me. Jackie

    Lifting the RSV

My current ride is a V*1100. Using a lift under it is quite interesting because the engine is lower than the frame. I use hockey pucks strategically placed on the lift arms to avoid lifting the bike by the engine (although some have said that is no big deal). My question is: Does the RSV have a flat bottom frame with the bottom of the engine above the bottom of the frame? Or is it like the V* and creativity time again? Thanks from a prospective RSV buyer. 18. Sorry, just noticed that I posted in wrong forum. I have an oil leak that shows up on the left side of engine (sitting on bike). The oil is coming from just behind that chrome bolt and large washer that kinda protrudes out from front middle, left side of engine. The mechanics say it is the O-ring seal that is between starter and engine ? It was replaced, and I checked, it was leaking before I got home from dealer(160 mile round trip). I first thought it was just some oil residue from the intial leaking. But it is not. Mechanic says can't get to it until next week. :bawling:I have been waiting on him now for 2 weeks. He says that the seal is really hard to get to, and was possible that it got pinched when replacement was done. 1..What do you all think it is? 2..Has anyone else had this problem? 3.. Any suggestions? Problem solved. Head gasket leaking. Bolts noe prperly tourged from factory. 9/03/08
  19. I have an oil leak, 4-6 running drips at about 40 mile or so when hot, that shows up on the left side of engine (sitting on bike). Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help and ideas, 2 cents or what ever. Thankyou........... James Update on oil leak *** Took back to same dealer mechanic yesterday afternoon (Mon. August 25) . He said he would check it out again, early next morning. No word today-(Tues. August 26). I will probably call the mechanic tommorrow. Update *** Mechanic called (Wed. August 27 ) problem solved I hope. Mechanic says that there was a bulliton out about this and he just now discovered it; the head bolt tourge on some of these bikes was improperly set from factory. So I had an oil leak from head gasket. Oil was coming from behind that head cover, when he took off, he said that it was very obvious. Hopefully get bike back this week. I called Yamaha's customer service and complained; Yamaha promised me $200.00 in merchandise set up at dealer. So I am happy again, as long as bike is fixed this time. Another update; no bike yet. Still at dealers.(Monday,September 15 th , no word yet.) **Finally got my bike back, Wed. Sept. 25, 2008. Problem fixed, head gasket replaced, back to riding again. Boone said that this was the first in 12 yrs that he had worked on this kinda problem with the 1300 engine. Ther was a bulletine put out from Yamaha on this 2007 yr model bike. The head bolts where not properly tightened. Well I am just glad to back to riding again.
  20. My Venture is a 1985 and I'd like to swap out the 1200cc engine with a 1300cc from a 1988 Venture. Are there any issues that would prevent the newer engine from working out OK? I think you all know why................
  21. I've bought an '87 1300 engine to swap with my '83 1200. I was told it would be a simple swap with no problems. Has anyone done this swap before and can you tell me what surprises are in store ? Jim O'D Darwin, Australia.
  22. Hi, Does anybody have for sale a LEFT SIDE ENGINE COVER w/ADJUSTABLE VENT w/the Venture emblem in really good shape to fit a 1986 Venture Royale 1300DS. The color of the engine cover is Urieshi Black/Marshall Gold. Also, the cover has "orangish-pumpkin" color pinstrips that separates the Black and Gold colors. The Marshall Gold is the top color followed by the pinstrips, then the Urieshi Black as the bottom color. I was hauling my bike on a trailer and the engine cover blew off. I think somebody forgot to fasten the bottom of the cover with the rubber attachment. Anyway, by the time I realized it had come off and back-tracked, the traffic had broken the cover into about 5 or 6 pieces. I know "beggars can't be choosers"; however, since the right side cover is near pristine, I would like the left side cover to be in good shape as well. If you have one for sale, please let me know your cost plus shipping to Dallas, Texas 75227. Looking forward to your response. Allen Squyres Dallas, Texas
  23. AFter a recent tear down of my '86 Royale, I am getting engine noise through the headsets. I can "hear" the spark of the engine. Might my noise filter be toast? I made sure I routed everything the way it was, and the ground good too. Any suggestions? I had a crystal clear intercom/radio/CB until this, and it's pretty frustrating! Any help would be appreciated
  24. Hi I am looking for recommendations for adding highway peg (or other) for the Venture. I find the "cheap" one that the bike has are not adequate. I am 6' 1" tall, with about a 34" leg inseam. Any suggestions? I think they would end up a on the engine guard and being somewhat out front to fit the length. Thanks for your recommendations in advance.
  25. Has anyone heard if Yamaha will be upgrading the RS Venture anytime with a detuned larger high performance 2009 VMAX engine?
