1. I created this disaster myself, since I removed the lighted spoiler from the trunk, yesterday, to see if I could determine why 3 of the lights, in the strip, were not working. I couldn't see a way to repair the problem, so I put it back on, using loctite on the screws. After returning from a short ride today, of an hour or so, I saw the light strip dangling from the wires and the spoiler was gone. We back tracked the route with the car right away, but never found it. I loved the looks with that spoiler on the trunk, now it looks naked! I now need to get another one. If any of you know of any place that I can buy one, please let me know. The color is like Plum or purple, but what ever color that is available, I'm sure it can be painted. I need your help! Thanks, Owen.
2. How many switched 12v wires are available in the fairing that can be used for power for a light relay? What color are they ?
3. can you guys help? what is the difference in a wire labled Y/R on the wiring diagram and R/Y? is one color continuous and the other striped? if so, what is what.
4. This is something I've been dealing with ever since I took my 99 RSV into the dealer a few years ago to have them fix my carbs because gas was pouring out of my overflow tube on the left side. They fixed that problem, but ever since my gas mileage has been on the low 30's. Black Owl and I have carb tuned it and last year at Pork in the Pines I used the color tune to check the fuel air mixtures. The fuel air mix appeared to be ok with a nice blue flame in each cylinder. But I've had all winter and spring to get up the courage and start adjusting the mixture on each carb. So I started by turning each mixture screw in 1/4 turn then running a few tanks of gas to see if things improved. After the second time there was a little mpg increase to about 36mpg (up from 34) and the nasty gas smell was gone. So I tried a third time. Mileage went down a bit and the gas smell came back. By this time I had turned each screw in 3/4's of a turn total. I had read on these forums somewhere that you should start with the mixture screws at 2 1/2 turns out if say you were rebuilding your carbs and needed to start at a base line. So last night I carefully turned each screw all the way in while counting the turns and reset each one to 2.5 turns out. Here are the counts for each carb as I turned the mixture screws all the way in. carb #1 3+ turns in carb #2 3+ turns in carb #3 2 3/4 turns in carb #4 2 1/2 turns in This after I had already turned each in by 3/4 turns over the past month. Questions: 1. Were those mixture screws out way too far? 2. Did I do the right thing by adjusting them all to 2.5 turns out? It runs pretty good today. I have not ridden far enough to see if MPG changed. 3. Is there a better tool besides the colour tune to determine air fuel mixture? It is pretty subjective as to the correct color shade of the blue flame. If not, I may beg to borrow a colour tune again. 4. I know I should re-sync the carbs after all this. Black Owl, you got the time to help? 5. is there anything else I should check? ============================== Update I should have mentioned the plugs are good. I replaced them last fall. Only about 4k on them. The headers heat up evenly, I already thought of that. I should buy stock in seafoam as I use so much of it. (1 can about ever other month) I don't have a tach, but I did buy a meter that is supposed to measure RPM with a clamp over the #1 plug wire. 1000RPM?? Really that high? When I pulled the old plugs last fall at Pork in the Pines, they looked good. Nice tan color to them. No clue on the AIS. I bought this bike used a few years back. No popping on deceleration anymore. There used to be popping before I took it in for repair a few years ago. HOWEVER, I had amazing Howitzer like backfire almost on command during deceleration until I started adjusting the mixture screws. Update (again): I have K&N air filters and I take care of them routinely.
5. the wife & I were south bound on our bike spotted 2 ventures going north, first bike was dark color, but second was a silver trike venture, anyone on this site?
6. Anyone have a right side saddlebag lid for sale? I have a friend who has a 86 or 87 venture and he is missing the right side saddlebag lid. It is a very dark brown color. Let me know if you have one. Thanks, Eric
7. The time has come to place my order for Dragon/Vogel t-shirts. I have finalized the design and just need to leave the rest up to the members attending, so if you plan on attending Vogel you have two things to do, first I need to know sizes especially if you haven't registered and given me that info already, second is which color you want, in the past we have had, grey shirts, black shirts, and maroon shirts as I dont wont to duplicate any shirt, I want each year to stand out on its own merit. Below you will find a sample of each color I have chosen and the design on the front, the back will remain secret until Aug. 12. So please let me know what color and what sizes you will be requiring especially if you don't plan on pre-registering. If I already have your registration you can pm me with your choice. For those that don't submit their choice, I will have extra shirts available at the registration table, they will be available on a first come basis, and if you are bringing your kids and want shirts I can get them in youth sizes but. I must have this info before I place the order.

9. I know this isn't bike related but we all have computers and thought I would share this. I found this great deal on a Lexmark C534dn color laserprinter with high capacity toner cartridges, $215 delivered. I already have a C522 and it's been great. With 8,000 page toner cartridges it's cheaper to buy this printer than replacement ink or toner for you existing printer. I just ordered two. One to use now and one for spare toner. http://www.pcconnection.com/IPA/Shop/Product/Detail.htm?sku=7224197 This is networkable printer with duplex and print speeds of 24 ppm (black) and 21 ppm (color). 11. Here's an inexpensive "Carbon Fibre" treatment I used to dress up my electrics side covers. Total cost about $35 and 1 hr of time. Purchase roll of TrimBrite "Carbon Fibre" film and a roll of 1/8 inch "Custom Chrome" accent striping. I got mine at Canadian Tire. You'll need a small spray can of some color...I chose silver (because the bike is black) ... the Carbon Fibre film shows the underlying color and with black, nobody would see it. Mask off the area you want for the Carbon Fibre. Scuff it up a bit with a scuff pad and clean it good with some paint thinner (or other de-waxer, de-greaser) Apply the under color....let it dry good...remove the masking tape. Take a strip of the Carbon Fibre and remove the backing paper. Lay it down slowly and evenly... make sure you don't get any bubbles. If you do, just poke them with a razor knife and work the air out. Trim off the excess with the razor knife. Apply the chrome trim to the edges.
12. Hey new to the forum, have been on other forums. Glad to find this one. Anyhow. Looking for an undamaged front fender. I was a bit curious about putting a Kawasakids drifter fender on there but probably not. (anyone do this?? pics) Don't really care about the color as i am going to paint my venture this upcoming summer. Also i am removing the trunk. It would be great if the front fender didnt' have holes. but if it does i can fill them. Thanks.

I changed my headlight bulb and I love it but now the passing lights look weak. Thanks Bob
14. ---- HANNIGAN ------ Should be Done Next Tuesday! Still needs the rake kit added. Chrome Fender tips still need to be added. I am so very impressed with this kit so far very well designed. Found out they do not even use your main drive at all they do have to send the old one back for a core charge. And the color match turned out perfect I was so worried about that part as nobody has been able to match the MM colors very well in the past for me. Here are a few pics , enjoy....
15. My Hannigan Kit came in last night to my Dealer. I was not going to show you guys until it was done. But I had to... One of the reason's I went there today is that I had to get my second saddle bag that they had for along time for the MM two tone color match. In the trunk is my RAKE KIT and Chrome Fender Tips for the rear. My matching trunk light bar, I looked under it. forgot to take pics *lol* man it is a work of art the suspension and brakes and stuff. I was racking it around in my brain the whole time if I wanted it one color or have it match my two/tone MM colors... So the end result is that I left it up to Hannigan. My Bike should be converted 27th or so.. should be a nice time to ride in Iowa by then. seems like this has taken FOREVER! I will post pictures of the final complete trike when finished. 16. This may be a Big shot in the dark, but...Wondering if Anyone on this site knows of a guy (that has posted his real nice lookin bike/paint job on his 2nd Gen Venture). I found the pics once, but can't find it again!! It's a Teal color bike (base color) with some real nice murals of Indians and Indian type "things" on it. He also is a Amsoil dealer and i met up with him at some training we both attended in Norman OK. His number on his bussiness card has been changed. Anyone?? Anyone?? I DO know his real full name, but dont think he uses that has his login name on this site. Anyone? Anyone? Dav?
17. What year did Yamaha start using clear lens on their signal lamps? My 2001 RSV has the amber color & I want to change them out to clear. Thanks for any info you can give. Bill
18. I had a crack in the bottom of my trunk. Now it is a large crack with a chunk missing. I need to fix it or replace it. I was watching one on ebay but it sold for $190 plus shipping and it was the wrong color. Is there a cheaper way to get this fixed? Mine is burgundy (88 VR)
19. I did some computer work for a local business and friend. I saved him so much money he is offering to paint my bike for free using House of Kolor paint, I can do candy or anything in their paint line. Anyone know of what colors look best on a 1st gen? I think it needs to stay a "classy" color and stay away from neon lime green crotch rocket or other sporty colors. anyone know of what colors look really good? does the bike look good with a metallic black or any of the dark colors or should I stick to something brighter?
20. I notice that alot of the folks on this site have a icon of the USA State Map which appears to be fill in with color as you visit each state. Could you please point me in the right direction as to locate a fillable copy. Or just point me in the general area. Thanks
21. Whie going to pick up my daughter's Christmas present today (a horse), I saw a red dually pulling a Tahoe fifth wheel trailer (with Florida plates) with a Venture and V-Star behind the fifth wheel. It was near impossible to tell the color of the bikes because of all of the raod grime. Gonna take a few days to clean those bikes.
22. Our son rides a 2002 YZF R6. Blue in color. For Christmas he would like a part for his bike that sounds like it's a cover for the riders seat made out of fiberglass. He thought ebay would have them. I tried looking up YZF accessories, but am confused. I don't know if it would be called a cowling or exactly what I'm looking for on ebay. He said it doesn't have to be blue, because he's a graphic designer and can "wrap" it to match the color of his bike. Does anybody know what I'm talking about?
23. For those of you stuck in parts of the country that does not have a fall color season change I thought I would show you what North Georgia looks like at full peak of the fall color leaf season change. These pics were taken during my Halloween ride Atlanta to Knoxville via Cherokee Smoky Mountain Park, Gattlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Knoxville and back with detour around North Georgia before getting back to Atlanta. These picks were taken near T.W.O. in Suches.
24. This subject came up in another thread and I didn't want to hi-jack it. But for those of us that own '83's and ride at night anytime, for me anyway, the lights are really bright and almost blinding. I guess that's why the '84's came out with a dimmer knob... I wonder if giving them the red treatment might help tone things down a bit?? Anyone ever changed theirs out. Red is the only color that doesn't ruin your night vision. And red might just make the dash look kinda 'cool'..... The only drawback I can see would be that anything colored red on the dials will disappear at night. Gonna have to go out and check the guages.
25. What's the difference between the gold and blue dot R1/R6 calipers??? Any difference beside the color???
