1. Hey folks. Just picked up a beautiful original luggage trunk rack for my 88 and want to get it mounted. At one time, I saw some cool large washers used under the rack (topside, not under the lid) where the rack posts contact the box lid. They had a star encircling the center hole. The hole was in the center of the star. Has anyone seen these or understand what I am talking about from my description? I'd like to locate some. Thanks.
2. Ok gurus of the 1st Gen VR I need some advice. Recently I am having issues getting the bike to start when the clutch is engaged. Engine does not turn over. Acts like I am trying to start in gear w/o the kick stand or center stand up. If I put it in Neutral it will start sometimes. If the bike is on the center stand in Neutral it starts almost all the time. I am assuming there is a safety interlock somewhere that is out of adjustment but not sure where to start on this one.
3. Would someone take a look their first gen center stand and let me know if the spring is compressed or extended while the scooter is on the center stand. I just got the parts in to put the lever arm and spring on so I can use the center stand but not sure which way it goes. The way I think it supposed to go gives me the suspiscion my spring is too long. Thank you, Bob
4. One in Raleigh, one in Union County and one in CLT The Raleigh one was biker caused... 84 in a 45 and lost it. The telephone pole won. Driver of the SUV has not been Charged... Say a prayer for all concerned. ____________________________________________ Motorcyclist killed in southwest Charlotte crash Posted: Jul 29, 2010 2:37 PM EDT Updated: Jul 29, 2010 8:28 PM EDT http://WBTV.images.worldnow.com/images/static/gfx/c_fv_tl.gif http://wbtv.images.worldnow.com/images/12893680_BG1.jpg CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Police in southwest Charlotte investigated a deadly motorcycle crash in the Steele Creek area Thursday afternoon. The crash happened at the intersection of South Tryon and York Center Road around 1:38 p.m. CMPD reports that Cassandra Stanley was attempting to turn onto York Center Drive from northbound South Tryon St. Stanley crossed in the path of a 2005 Yahama motorcycle which was traveling southbound on South Tryon. The motorcycle struck the small SUV that Stanley was driving and the rider was thrown approximately 30 feet onto the roadway. The driver of the motorcycle, who has not been identified, died as a result of their injuries at Carolinas Medical Center. Stanley and her passenger were not injured in the crash. 5. I've got a couple of driving pet peeves----I'd like any LEOs reading to tell me exactly how the law about burned out headlight, tailight and brake light reads. You see a lot of cars driving around with burned out brake lights. Usually it's only one, but the other day I was behind a car that had both side brake lights out and one of the lamps in the center brake light also out. Only 1 bulb in the center light was on. How come they never get pulled over?? Heck, a loooooooong time ago when I was a young driver, I got stopped for a burned out license plate light. What happened??
6. Ok, I put some 1.5 inch risers on my bike this morning and it was a PITA to do. All the hoses and cables seem to be OK but I found that when I turn to near full lock on the bars, the handlebar clamps hit the center console next to the ignition switch. Does anyone have a remedy for this?? It has already marked the chrome in that area!! Pics below.
7. This is on Hwy 71 out of Center Alabama.Try it some time
8. We have a 2005 Midnight Venture just purchased and am wondering how you folks lift the bike for routine service without a factory center stand? This is our first motorcycle in 19 years and all prior had factory center stands. I have a hydraulic lift table but would like to have a way to have both tires free of the ground. Thanks, Rob
9. I was in the curves around Romance, AR when the bike went squirrelly, not so bad as to lose control, but bad enough to where the back end was "swaying". I was doing about 55mph when this happened and slowed down to about 40mph...it seemed to be OK and then about 2 minutes later...it did it again only worse... I nursed it for another mile or two and then finally stopped in a church parking lot and looked at it and sure enough...it only had about 10 lbs in it. I went ahead and rode it to a gas station (not that much further down the road) and aired the tire up...it stayed up for about 20 minutes and then lost the air again. But I already had my brother coming after me with the trailer and we took the bike at 6:15pm up to the Yamaha store for a new tire. I could not find a puncture in the tire or any nails or any other objects in the tire, but the CENTER of the tire seemed to have cuts in various parts of the tire...but always DEAD CENTER. I am wondering if the tire was defective...I only have 1800 miles on the BIKE!! Has anyone else ever seen a tire do this? Anyway...now I know for sure what it feels like to have a tire go down... Wally
10. K, got her buttoned up and started. Was warming her up to start the carb sync. I looked at the temp gauge and it was sitting at the bottom figuring she cant still be that cold. I saw the volt gauge was where it needed to be. I saw one bar on the fuel gauge and then it went to the fuel pump on the center display. Ok, figured it is getting low (prolly is). Anyway, as I glanced over to the Volt gauge, it was on the bottom. When I turn the key on, they both bump up a tad before dropping back down. Headlight, turn signals, brake & brake light, instrument light, center display and tach are working. I did replace the speedo and plate before I buttoned her back up. And I did the fuel tank thing to get a better reading on the fuel display. Ideas?
11. The question about how to get the bike on the center stand got me to thinking about another question. I can get my bike on the center stand with no problems at all basically using the same technique described in that thread. What I have a hard time with is getting the bike off of the center stand. Anybody got any ideas on this? Also remember I'm barely 5'6" so sitting on the seat and pushing the bike off of the center stand is out of the question.
12. i was wondering if anyone here had an extra center cover forover the battery and gas tank.. mainly need the gas door, but the whole piece would be better.. for an 86 venture.. 83 will also fit...
13. OK, the saga of the '91 continues. Kurt replaced the 'O' ring behind the gear sensor and let the bike idle for around an hour. Then he took it for a ride and then let it sit. No oil smoke and no leaks. Rode it over to the house and let it sit on the side stand for the better part of an hour.... nothing. Cool!!! Put the bike away on the center stand and the next morning still nothing. Sync'd the carbs etc. Let it idle for a while and the next morning... on the center stand.. there's an oil puddle about the size of a 50 cent piece under the bike by the left center stand pad.. Never started it again and while I'm gone to Cody the patch grew to the about 6" across with fresh drips. All by the left pad of the center stand. Here's what I'm looking for. Can anyone think of a reason that would cause a bike to leak oil while it's on the center, but not while it's over on the side stand?? And where in the engine would the oil be deep enough to leak on the horizontal and not on the lean?? I talked to Rocket about it and he suggested trying some of that florencent dye in the oil and then black light it, and I may do that. Any other ideas?? BTW the right side bottom of the motor is dry as far as I can see.
14. For those of you who have done valve adjusts and timing checks . You know that the chrome cover on the engine's generator cover must be remove when manually turning the crankshaft. You also know there is a"special washer" that must be removed. This is part of the "stator cooling" assy.. NOW, which way does this go in. Or does it not matter? It is basically a washer w/ 2 sides(edges) slightly angled. And also the center is "pushed thru" as stamped from the factory. Which way should it sit? with the washer looking almost even w/the crank bolt or w/the washer set so the rough center faces out...and not flush w/bolt??? I was doing work on it today and forgot which way it goes. I am such a putz.
15. The gauge on my 1986 VR is not working, but there is plenty of heat pouring off the manifold. I flushed and replaced the anti-freeze, but would like to know what the temperature is that is being sensed by the command center. Can someone tell me how to correct this problem? Thanks. Poledar
16. How to explain this. - - the windshield bolts to a strip of metal running across the inside of the fairing. This strip of metal is mounted on each end with a plastic ear to the inside of the fairing and at the center with a bolt to a raised mount. Both ears are broken - only thing holding it is the center bolt. It's a '05 so the warranty covers it but, in two weeks is a trip up to VA and back. (Blue Ridge and Skyline) Don't think there's time for the dealer to handle it. What about two small angle brackets in place of the ears. Any reason it wouldn't work??? Don't know how much trouble it will be to grind the ears off and mount the brackets. Any thoughts anyone???
17. Hey folks, I'm brand new to this site, as a matter of fact, this is my first thread. So, here's the first question I have. I am looking at purchasing a new Ultimate Seat for my 2007 RSTD, does anybody out there have this seat on their RSTD. Pros, and cons? Also, I am tossing around the idea of purchasing a center stand for my bike. Is Rivco the only manufacturer of one that fits the RSTD, or are there other less expensive alternatives? Pros, and cons please.
18. Any one ever think of trying to put a peltier junction in a helmet for cooling? Or maybe put one (or more) in a vest? I know they are rigid and won't comform to any radius but I found some that are only 40mm sq. Sounds like a good size to put top center of a helmet. Ones on market now are pretty low current draw compared to ones I played with several years ago.
19. The E-3 installed 12 mo. ago now has 5720 miles on it. Center of tread measures, 1/4 inch of depth. So far, so good
20. Strapped crutches to back seat and away we went!! Little Shakey. My nerves are about done. Now I'm not only watching for something hiding behind every tree, rock or stump now i gotta watch the ones coming straight at me!!! Cage drifted across center line coming at me and I almost paniced. But she is home and I can start getting her ready to go south somewhere... What was the name of that place?? Got lost in the fog first time I went there. Now where did I put that map??
21. I purchased a motorcycle jack from Pep Boys some time ago and have not used it as yet. Yesterday I slid it under my 2004 Venture R/S; I couldn't find a place to position the jack that might not cause damage. Also, is there something on the undercarriage that shows the center balance for my bike?
22. What is this part, where does it go, what does it do and is it important or not. During the most recent carb maintenance this weekend, the magnet picked this up from inside the center of the v In between the cylinder heads. It seems like I have seen it before but for the life of me I can't remember where it goes.
23. Well after the new master cylinder and new slave ,which ironically went in fairly easily, and after reverse bleeding with tutoring from Condor, my shifter on old 83 is still stuck.... Can't go up or down thru the gears with or without the clutch.. just seems stuck. Up on the centerstand, the rear wheel is free. With the clutch cover off, I can by hand turn the center. Help ......b4 this goes to the shop and get more expensive than the bike is worth. Clay
24. this is what they look like when you cut the center out with a haxsaw:farmer:
25. I recently purchased one of Don's modified center stands for my 2nd Gen. For those of you with a 2nd Gen with of these center stands: Have you noticed a significant reduction in lean angle to the left? If so, what have you done or modified to correct it? Will "pumping up" the rear and/or front shock help? Thanks in advance for your help.
