I bought this off ebay from a regular vender. I was very disappointed in the quality of the "finishing". Before I bought this one, I asked on this forum about a cheaper "after-market" version for $80 on ebay. Consensus was that it did not have the 4 supports and others had their trunk lids crack as a result. So I paid more and got the "Yamaha" accessory. The factory pic used by 3 retailers is the same - NO detail options to zoom in. I am posting here with pics I took to find out if others who have this rack can tell me if this one has defective or left over weld marks on the 2 front curved legs at the female ends where it mounts onto the lid. The 2 straight rear legs are finished properly. Thanks for looking!

Total maint. day today. Had the rear tire off and was cleaning the splines, but unsure how to get into the areas in the wheel where the splines go??????????? Found out that a 20 gauge shotgun brass bore brush works great on the end of a drill! Bought at Wally World for a buck and a half. Inserted on the end of my cordless and the brush cleaned out the holes super fast! I think I'll keep a cpl. in my tool box!

I've just bought an '89 VR, and haven't even had a ride yet (too much snow!). I still don't know much about the bike, but I'm learning much from the forums here. I have a 3' steel antenna (probably original) on the bike that doesn't fold. My bike will be outside in the summer, and so I just bought a cover. Unfortunately, to put the cover on, I need to remove the antenna, which I am figuring will be a pain. This is an antenna for the radio and the CB, and I'd like to keep just one antenna, as I'm unfamiliar with dividing into two. Is there an antenna short enough that it will go under my cover, or is there a fold down adapter that will work with my bike? I went to my dealer but they didn't offer up anything... When hunting around online, what do I need to look for technically speaking?? Thanks so much for any advice that anyone can give!

Hello Riders, I read about Avon Vemon tires on this site and when my original reat tire needed to be replaced after my trip to NY from AZ pulling my Time Out Camper, I bought a set and had them installed on my 07 RSV. I bought them from Bike Bandit and paid about $284.00 Delivered to my door in three days. The service and the assistance from their telephone sales department was excellent. The real news is the way the tires make the bike respond. The "top heavy" feeling at low speed is non-existent and at speed the tires handle more like a sport bike. There is no road noise whatsoever from this set of tires. I have just about got 100 miles on them for the break-in but the difference is absolutely nite and day over the Dunlops that were original equipment. I don't know about wear of course, but if it is not a good as the Dunlops (I got about 16,000 miles), I will take the lesser miles as opposed to the handling. I am sure that there are other tires out there, but your reccommendation on the Venoms sure have made my day. Thanks to Venture.org for the great information and making my Venture even better to ride than it was before! Jay Jay

Bought an Odyessy PC680 battery for my RSMV. The battery I got with the bike when I bought it in November/07, crapped out on me. Left me and the misses stranded in Port Dover on Friday the 13th in the pouring rain, mixed in with the thunder and lightning. Motorcycle people are great people, very friendly. A complete stranger from Alberta, visiting relatives, pulled his BMW MC up to mine, pulled out a set of booster cables and got me started. Gave him a big hug and a thank you, rode home in the rain. Today, pulled the old battery out, drove to Great Northern Battery in Hamilton and got myself the Odyessy. Hopefully no more problems for a while. I'm tired of the garbage that goes up for sale from places like China that dealerships dump into our bikes because they are so cheap. Made in North America, that's what I like.

WOW, that sound drives me NUTS! I bought a 2006 Venture about a month ago, and the noise is REALLY interfering with the pleasure riding usually brings. Sounds like standing in a swamp full of peeper frogs!!!!! A couple of questions, first, does anyone know of a good dealer to work with about the "I" basket replacement in my area? I live in Connecticut and the dealer I bought from is in Long Island. second, what recourse would I have if whatever dealer I choose doesn't offer the fix under warranty? I don't suffer fools gladly, I work too hard for my money to take any "we can't help you" bs. I absolutely LOVE the bike, but the noise is making me think of a Gold Wing or H-D Thanks, this is a VERY helpful and friendly forum. Marty S

I have the Venture Line bumper lights on my 87 and i bought some mini wedge LED bulbs #2060-0006 from Drag Specialties $2.95 @. They project less light because of the angle they sit. So i bought new lens because of the color loss and that brighten things up some. LEDs are good if they are used in straight direction.

Just purchased an '87, (one owner bike) the guy used Gastrol GTX 20W50 all of the time and changed it every 3k. I called the local dealer to schedule a tune-up/oil change etc... and asked if they used Gastrol oil. He said they NEVER put car oil into a motorcycle and wouldn't recommend it at all. He said I should be using the Yamaha oil and that is what they generally use. The guy I bought it from drove it for 21 years using Gastrol - and everything seems to run fine. Should I switch to the Yamaha brand? I didn't think this would cause that much problem. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated!!!

Well just closed the deal from a private seller on an '01 RSV. Haven't picked it up yet so no pictures at the moment. Also my first dealings on Ebay and I have to admit it was a good experience. Just a little over 7000 miles, the bike is in beautiful condition. The guy I bought it from, got it from someone in NY who bought it new in '04 (leftover). I guess he needed money earlier this year and had to sell. I know these bikes come with a 5 yr warranty and my question is, because the bike was sold as new in '04, I'm thinking that there should be a little of the warranty left. Anyone have any experience with this? Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hi. I've bought a non running XVZ1200, 83 model, and have started rebuilding it. I bought a new battery/plugs etc to try and fire it up but it turns over way to slowly. When I press the start button the battery level just drops right down? I've also noticed the starter solenoid gets red hot when the engine's turning overhttp://www.yamahaventureclub.co.uk/forum//smileys/smiley24.gif I burned my fingers on the terminalshttp://www.yamahaventureclub.co.uk/forum//smileys/smiley35.gif, that's how hot it gets.

Hi All, I used to have a 1983 Venture, went a LOT of place on her, she had a good soul. Next bought a 2001 Kawasaki Voyager, a nice enough bike, but didn't care much for the handling, powerband , etc. Anyway, I just bought a 2006 venture about a month ago. Loving it so far, except for "the whine". Sometimes it REALLY annoys me, other times I don't even notice. Took a 400 mile ride to Vermont and back last Saturday, was LOVING the bike. Anyway, does anyone have any advice about installing Sirius Radio on the Venture? Any recommendations on engine oil? I used castrol synthetic in my Voyager, seemed to work well. Any recommendations on Highway pegs or boards? Look Forward To Hearing Back, Thank You Marty

Got the wheel off and on the ground. Can't get the allen head bolts out. I have compared it with the new ones which appear to have standard right hand threads. The allen head socket already looked tweeaked, and had to tap allen wrench in to get it to seat. BUT THE DING_DONG THINGS WILL NOT BUDGE!! Stripped one head out, so tried the ole visegrips, but no luck. The rotor was chewed when I bought the bike at 14,000 miles, and now it seems it has be replaced once already and tightened by a gorilla. ANY SUGGESTIONS? Bubba

Question is - Is it ok to mix tire brands? Not sure why I'm questioning this, but I thought I saw a post somewhere that it was a bad idea. Just bought my bike in December and the dealer I bought from put a new tire on the rear at my insistence, but I had no choice in what it was, and he put on the Metzler ME 880. Been reading all the good stuff here about Avon and also about the smaller MT90-16 tire size on the front, so now that it's time to buy a new front, I am leaning towards getting the Avon, but of course still have the nearly new Metzler on the back. Also, I can't seem to find the Metzler in the MT90-16 size anyway. Also, saw this link which looks like a best price: ($109.60 for MT90B-16) http://www.americanmototire.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=33_61_72 Southwest Moto has MT90HB-16 for $111.95. Are these the same or slightly different tires? Also, I want blackwalls, not whitewalls. And these prices are close enough that if one provides better customer service, then I would go with that one. Thanks for any and all help.

Well, it took about 3000 miles, but the Metzler 880 on the back finally started blowing chunks. It stranded me on m way to work this morning at 6:15 AM in the dark. Thankfully, a police officer equipped me with flares while I waited for AAA to show up and scoop the scoot off the road. The dealer only had the same tire in stock. I was in a bit of a rush and had him put it on. Metzler is referring me back to the place I bought for any warranty adjustment and said the Yamaha dealer should have taken care of it. Mine was made in Germany, not Brazil, so I figured I was to be spared the agony of the defects. Will keep you posted.

I bought a new chainsaw from a reputable dealer on ebay. He sells 8-10 saws every week of the same model. I read the feedback from the other buyers and all were happy with the product. The only complaint was delayed shipment but most received theirs within two weeks. His feedback when I bought the saw was 98.6 as of Feb 29th. I checked today and his feedback dropped to 83 after about 10 people complained about not receiving there saws and no communication from the auctions on Feb 24th. Now I'm getting nervous so I sent a email. I might have to open a complaint for a paypal refund later. For now we will see how everyone else does. Just my luck the guy runs out of saws and continues to sell them. I noticed Ebay pulled all his auctions scheduled for this weekend.
