1. Just a post to let anyone who might be interested know I have just two of the black braces left. This isn't a panic emergency notice as I can always put in another order for another 10, but it may take a while, and now that riding season is upon us??? Any rider who hasn't done the mod on their 1st needs to consider it....
2. I am offering them to everyone here at a lower price. I just do not want to do it until later tonight after everyone has signed off. That way I may not interfere with anyone's conversation/post. I changed the Black Triple flag to $85.00. I will finish the rest later tonight and will be changed by tomorrow morning, Monday (5 -14 ) if no problems come up. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showcat.php?cat=34 1- Triple Flag - Gloss Black 4- Double Flag - Two Grey Primer & Two Gloss Black * I made more of these because I figured people would like these the most. 1- Single Flag - Gloss Black If you want to pay by check, just send me a message. James
3. The black plastic on my bike has white splotches on it. See picture. I have tried various cleaners, rubbing compounds, and polish to get it off but nothing has touched it. Is this normal for the aging material and other than paint, is there a way to get it black again? Ray
4. ok guy's little help here. The guy i bought my rsv from took the antennas off and cut the coax cables handing me the whole mess in a box. These were the short black plastic wrapped antennas not the long ones.I've mounted an xm radio on it so am/fm do's not bother me but need the cb for upcoming road trip.Q#1 were is the cb Q#2 is the coax made into the cb or is it the plug in kind i can just pull out and replace (i have no idea how to splice a coax cable)Q#3 keep and use short black antenna or find the orig type and put it back on?Q#4 (nothing to do with cb)the acc plug under the left side of seat is DOA......fuse behind right lower faring is ok,replaced it to be sure, any ideas on this one? thanks in advance Mike
5. I was wondering if anyone knows of a replacement or some way to replace the top half of the CB antenna. I have 2 friends missing the top piece above the black part. Is it possible to make up something that will work or find a place that sells just that part?
6. Just wondering if anyone here has painted all their side covers on the motor when the redid their bike or engine repair. I have seen some painted various colors but I am talking flat black here. If you have, and took pictures of them I would love to see them, I have painted mine with high heat matt black, havent put them back on yet, but I am debating on whether to leave them flat black or go with some clear coat over them to give them a little shine and help protect the paint better.
7. Pulling the tank tomorrow to replace the air filter and possibly attach new horns. I've chucked the plastic clamshells they came in but they are I believe Wolo Blasters(?) Hi and Lo note. I don't like the area the old one came from. To "hey notice the blk plastic chunk" for me. While I've got the tank off I'm going to check out behind the plastic cover. Can anyone give me a heads up what is under there and if there would be space for two of these horns? I'm thinking of hitting Radio Shack and getting some black metal outdoor speaker mesh and cutting rectangular holes so I can aim them outward. One on each side. Something along the lines of this....(I will accept compliments on my ninja MS Paint skills, but don't feel like you HAVE to. )
8. All, OK, I saw another ad that made me think of this. During my restoration I am looking to recover or replace the brown seat/back that I have for my 84 with a black one. I know I can look on ebay and do quite often but I also wanted to check here for any tips from the group. Thanks, Mark
9. So, I have had several helmets hooked up on the wall in my garage. One set of black helmets have been in the same spot since 2003, when I got rid of my black 83 1st gen and bought my 99 silver. The last week I have noticed this tiny bird coming in and out of the garage. Sitting outside today, in between getting the garage set-up to get back to working on the bike in earnest, I heard a loud chirping coming from a tree outside the house. The bird seemed to be stressed about something. I just happen to glance over to the black helmets on the wall and notice straw coming from behind the helmet. I go over and look closely. Sure enough, the bird is building a nest in both helmets. I go inside and leave the garage door open. In about 10 minutes, said bird made a dash for the helmets. So, it looks like im going to have some new garage mates for a bit. Ill just leave it alone, but I thought its all pretty cool. Sorry, I cant take pics of it. My New Fuji Camera wont work with my Mac and until I find out why the Mac keeps rejecting the pics I cant download any here. Wonder whats gonna wander into my garage next........
10. Hello , First off let me say that I believe that Old Goat is a stand up guy and that he told me everything he knew about the bike good and bad ... Question #1 I put some seafoam/gas into the bike started it up so the seafom would get into the carbs to maybe help out .. It ran for a bit and noticed the temp gauge didn't move .. the fan never came on ... then I noticed the the antifreeze come from underneath..(over heating ).. so i pulled the knob located next to the ignition.. the fan came on.. I have removed all the plastic from the bike ... where the temp gauge is there is a green/red stripe wire ,a black wire and a brown coming from the back of the temp gauge .. I tracked the green/red striped wire to the sending unit it was hooked up.. where the sending unit screws in there was a black wire with a male end that was screwed into the piece that the sending unit screws screws into was not hooked up.. I looked around and found another black wire (same gauge wire) with female end . ( the male end and the female looked factory) should these be hooked together ? Is this the ground for the gauge? also there was a blue wire that came out the same place as the green/red stripe wire .. it is hooked to a black wire ( not factory i don't think ) that goes to the knob i pulled to start the fan.. If i plug the black wires together will this make the temp gauge work? And is there a way I can test without starting bike ? Question #2 if you were standing at the side of the bike looking at the engine .. Between the back and the front set of cylinders there is a oblong piece of metal (don't know name ) That has hoses running to it.. On this piece of metal looks like a metal tube sticking up from it nothing attached ... Right above it is a hose (seems to be 3/8 ) that looks like it should attach to it ... Should these two be attached ? ... I'm going to replace all the hoses and clean all contact points .. since i have it this far apart.. I will have plenty of more dumb questions for you in time .. A big thanks to all that take the time to respond..
11. I dont usually get stumped on the 1st gen....but I am on this one. This plug was located behind the left side inner/upper faring. It has 2 wires one black and one brown with faint white dash marks....any ideas on what it is
12. It was sure great to see the Midnight Venture there! It might not be New but it's still cool....and had lots of lookers and setters.....I don't know what year it came back but the bright black dash sure looks good being shiny black again....when did that happen? I think Yamaha had the biggest area there too.:Venture:I was kinda hoping they'd replace the cassette with an 8 track but nooooo!
13. Here ya go Russ....
14. I am adding a HD aftermarket trunk to my Tour Deluxe and want to paint it to match, or at least look like a match at 50 mph. There are rattle can kits for both colors, blue and black, on the internet that I think I will try. I could do the easy thing and paint the lid blue and the base black. Or, tape off and look to catch a similar angle to the saddle bags. There is a stripe on the bags where the blue and the black meet. Is this a decal? Or is this painted? If some sort of decal / tape, is this available?
15. When I went to the Covered Bridge Festival in Parke County, Indiana on October 15, I took this photo of this Black Cherry. Was it somebody here? Yama Mama
16. Do any of you know of an epoxy or similar glue for plastics that is black? My favorite, JB Weld, mixes up gray, and I want to do a little gluing on the CB dash panel where the glue may be seen a little bit. Thanks, Jeremy
17. I just finished stripping the paint off the markland hitch mounting hardware and now ready to paint it. My plan is to use black Rustoleum, it there something better, that one can recommend?
18. After a long discussion with Black Owl about what "Poke in the Pines" really is & where it is & that we are invited to attend even if we pronounce it "Pork in the Pines" , I have decided that I'm going to try & get back there for Labor Day weekend. I will be leaving the Scottsbluff, NE area Thursday morning the 1st of Sept. I will most likely pick up Babe at the Minneapolis airport the 2nd & drive on to the rally. Anybody from this general area or west of Cheyenne, WY/Scottsbluff, NE headed to the "Pork in the Pines" I would sure like to hook up with you & ride to the rally together. That's about half the fun is getting to the rally with an old friend or a new one. Can't get Phoneman1981 to shake loose to go, so far. Let's get a group from here in the Rocky Mtn area to go to Black Owls party..!!!! C Ya, Parolman46 CELL = NINE SEVEN 0- THREE NINE SIX - SIXTEEN 0 SEVEN

A Tale of Two Scooters

Keep an open mind or read no further. You have been warned! So...back in early June I learned of a couple of 150cc scooters for sale. Cheap. Fast forward a few weeks and I bought them. I loaded them both up in my little-red-chevrolet-half-ton-pickemup-truck, and hauled them home. Roketa Bali 150cc Chinese Scooters. You can buy them on the interweb for around $1200-$1400 delivered. I paid $600 each. These are 2007 models, with 252 miles on the black one, and 688 miles on the blue one. Not even broken in. They have sat for most of the last 3 years. The previous owners bought them as a pair and just didnt ride them much. They are a hoot! These get around 70 mpg, will do almost 60 mph on a flat level road, and are super easy to ride. Twist and go...no shifting. No, you wont be taking these on the interstate, you'll get yer ass run over. But around town they are fun and easy to ride. The have some storage under the seat, enough room for a couple of bags of groceries...and more pep than you would think. They will easily keep up with normal traffic. In fact, most of the time I'm in front. MOST of the time! I traded the blue one off, and was going to sell the black one to another friend, but she backed out due to the long wait to take a motorcycle class. (that sucks by the way!) So I decided to keep the black one. Added to my stable. I have had 5 offers to buy the black one from me...two of those offers were from Harley owners who took it for a spin...its that much fun! I was really surprised when I took it to my insurance agent and they quoted me 7 dollars. I said, seven dollars a month? She said, no...seven dollars a YEAR! I can live with that! So off I ride into the wild, but nearby, blue yonder. http://s62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/tx2sturgis/roketa-scooter/?albumview=slideshow
24. As my mirror on the right side fell of the bike in my hand today while I was trying to adjust it I figured what the hack I'll atempt to fix it instead of buying a new one. Turned out pretty good. First I removed the glass from the black retainer buy using an exacto knife to remove the front edge as i found out the glass is not glued in. Second I removed the black retainer by taking out 3 small phillips screws. Third I drilled out the bracket still on the bike to let a 1/4 inch by 1 1'2 screw pass through. Then installed the base of the mirror with the 1/4 in screw using two 1/4 inch washer on the inside of mirror. Pic will show 6 but had to take back apart becouse the black retainer wouldn't go back in place with all 6 washers.Next was the black base screwed back in place followed by the glass. As I removed the retaining ring with the exacto knife I used 5 minute epoxy to hold the mirror in place. I'll post back tommorow as to how well this holds up as we have a ride planned for a couple of hours by the Petty Museum. Hope this works as well as I think it will as it was easy enough for a non mechanic like me to do. Just take your time with the removal of the glass so as not to break it. David
