  1. Just wondering why static sag would be significant on a touring bike?
  2. After checking the parts listing, I see it is a sealed maintenance free battery. It had a voltage of 11.64 volts before charging. 13.2 volts after charging.. With bike running I measure 13.84 volts. I was expecting about 14.2 but assume this is normal, and the bike certainly is charging the battery. There is a 3 milliamp draw on the battery even with the key off. I would think with electronic ignitions this would be normal. Can anyone confirm if this is normal or not? I guess I will just keep an eye on the battery and if it goes down too fast this week I will get to the dealer and see about getting a new one.
  3. I use to do the same thing when I lived in Michigan, but here in Florida I usually don't go more than a couple weeks without riding ever. Oh and I never took the battery out in Michigan, the snow never seemed to affect my solar panel. You do have a diode in the line, or your solar panel has one built in, right? If not solar panels become a drain on the battery when it is dark.
  4. No, completely stock.
  5. I did the dragon in 06 on my old Kaw ZR-7S.. and did the Cherohala last year with on the RSV. We stayed in Tellico Plains, did a day ride across the Cherohala, over to Wheels Through Time, and back to Tellico Plains.

  7. That site has a pretty good price too. I've never seen a test on the Amsoil "long life" but I would guess because of the name and higher price, the Amsoil "Severe Gear" would be a little better. Severe Gear was the top rated gear oil in the test results link I listed above.. Mobil 1 was the next best rated, and of the 12 synthetic and 2 dino oils, Lucas synthetic was rated last.
  8. Went to take the bike to work today and it wouldn't start,, battery seemed weak. This is the second time it has happend.. Bike is just a year old last week and completely stock. First time it had sat unused for a month, and when I went to start it the radio had been turned off so I was not 100% sure I had turned the key all the way off. I charged the battery and it was fine for a few weeks. On the 13th I did a 150 mile ride and put it back in the garage, hadn't had a chance to ride since (but that is only 11 days) and today it wouldn't start. The key was definitely off. I will get to it tomorrow and check the fluid level, connections and voltage, charge it, and check the voltage running, to make sure it is charging OK. Anything else to look for?
  9. You might want to read this study! http://www.amsoil.com/lit/g2457.pdf I use Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec
  10. Before we go any further,, lets clear the semantics!!! An alternator is a type of electrical generator, so calling an alternator a generator (like the engineers at Yamaha do in their parts list) is technically correct, just not normal in most places. Another thing to do to help the issue is to change out all the turn signals, tail lights, brake lights, running lights (pretty much anything but the headlight and passing lights) to LEDs that draw much less current.
  11. I just wish people would pick a speed and stick with it!! At least on the freeway.. I constantly see people here in newer, nice cars, ones I know have cruise control, going down the freeway, with no one holding them up, speeding up and slowing down. I will set my cruise and come up on someone going slower, pull over to pass, and they speed up so I'm sitting out in the left and have to either speed up or slow down to get back over. If I slow down and pull back in behind them, they will slow down, and it starts all over again. Or I will be cruising in the middle lane of three, going a little faster than the people in the right and some one will pass me, pull over to the middle lane, then slow down so I have to kick off my cruise even when there is no one in front of them. If people would stay at a constant speed (unless of course traffic gets too heavy) and keep out of the left lane except to pass, things would flow much smoother.

  13. Other than the Friday meet, anyone meeting another week day?. Friday we always go to the Supercross races as soon as Mary gets off work. I wouldn't have time to make the meet and be back to get her.
  14. I'm sorry to hear you got stiffed, but what were you thinking? Even not knowing he would be remiss, what if it had been stolen from your driveway,, you would have legally owed him the whole value of the bike!!!
  15. THE GLARE, THE GLARE,, I think I'm Blind!!!!!!:rotf:

    Oil

I believe he means the motorcycle specific oil, I've never seen that at a Wal-Mart Try Cyclegear.. http://www.cyclegear.com/city_location.cfm?Store=16 All the ones around here carry it.
  17. I ran mine up the handlebar on the left side, just wound it in with the other wires.

    Harley XR1200

A Grand National Champion has not been on a Honda in 12 years, and they have only won a Championship 5 times ever, 4 of them 84 through 87. Harley dominates flat track only because AMA stacks the rules in their favor, ever since Kenny Roberts won the Championship in 73 and 74 on a bored out Yamaha XS650. Roberts made a name for himself by battling the dominant Harley-Davidson factory dirt track team aboard an underpowered Yamaha XS650 model twin cylinder street motorcycle (overbored to 750CC with a special frame) in the U.S. Grand National Championship, a series which encompassed events in four distinctive dirt track disciplines plus road racing. Roberts is one of only four riders in AMA racing history to win the AMA Grand Slam, representing national wins at a mile, half-mile, short track, TT and road race. He made up for his bike's lack of horsepower with an almost fearless, determined riding style. This fearless style was highlighted in 1975 when Roberts competed at the Indy Mile National aboard a dirt track motorcycle with a Yamaha TZ 750 two-stroke road racing engine wedged inside its frame. On a bike that was considered unrideable due to its excessive horsepower, Roberts came from behind on the two-stroke, and overtook the factory Harley-Davidson duo of Korky Keener and Jay Springsteen on the last lap for one of the most famous wins in American dirt track racing history. Afterwards, Roberts was famously quoted as saying, "They don't pay me enough to ride that thing." AMA promptly banned 2-strokes and Kenny went to Europe to become a world champion on pavement.

    I Hate Wax !!

I use FX all the time.. pretty good stuff and fairly cheap and easy to use.. What can I say, I'm lazy.. But it is not near as good a Zaino, when I'm not too lazy that is what I use.. It lasts much longer. http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=Z-AIO ZAIO followed by Z-2 http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=Z-2 and then Z-7 http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=Z-2 next time you wash and you are set for months of serious protection.. you only have to do the ZAIO and Z-2 about every 6 to 8 months.

    Harley XR1200

Seems like an odd bike to market against the Buells
  22. Japan,, my 07 VIN starts with JYA.. But I have another VIN question,, I have a trailer that the first digit it 5, where was it made?
  23. MY 07 did the exact same thing the other day when I went to ride it.. The only thing I can think of is that I left the key on last week and drained the battery, I put it on my charger but this was the first time I had tried to ride it since. Maybe the battery was still a little low? After riding for a while mine did not do it again.
  24. I just hold the throttle for a sec after I hit the set button.
  25. Actually I came up with just the opposite determination, it will be the perfect trailer when riding two up, after I take the wife on a couple of long trips with no trailer and make her do with just what we can fit in the bike's bags.
