star or barrons deflectors?
hig4s replied to sleadhed's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I had a hard time with the price too, but gave in and got them. I don't regret it at all. They are very nice, totally functional, and look good too. -
One other thing to think about, if you are planning on adding GPS.. the Zumo 550, (one of the more popular) has an XM add-on option.

go to mapquest or Randmcnally.com and do a shortest distance from Jax to L'ville.. US1/US23 splits and you stay on 23 it becomes US23/US129 and connects to 441. That is basically the way we went from Jax to Road Atlanta in 06.

From the last I read about it, Department of Justice has approved the merger of the two, they are just waiting for FCC approval, expected by mid year.

Frame Cracked Under Seat
hig4s replied to DMooch's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
That is incredible. It appears the frame itself broke, not the welds, which a good weld would be stronger than the frame. From the way the frame bolts to the rear frame section, two bolts lower on the frame and two into the section that is broke, I would say check the bottom bolts, if they are loose or missing perhaps that upper tube has been holding all the weight of the fender and trunk all this time. Still I think you would have noticed the day it actually broke. If they are not loose or missing, I would have to believe that the bike was in some sort of accident. How they could have replaced or repaired the trunk and rear end parts without removing the driver's seat and missed that is beyond me. -
It makes more sense than conventional trikes in theory, most of your stopping power is in the front and the front controls what direction the vehicle goes. So the most traction should be in front. So if you are only going to have three wheels, two should be in front. Not comfortable though.. and it doesn't lean.. When I can't handle two wheels I still will want something that will lean. If no one makes one, I go back to a cage. Of course there is always the Vespa's MP3 scooter.

I just got a factory second XXL clear with vent. Sort of wanted the gray tint, but oh well. I didn't want to wait as we are doing a trip end of April, and saved about $60. I can't see the imperfection they mentioned??? The wife says much quieter air on her head. Yet to use it in the rain to see how much better it sheds water, but over all I really like it. The only issue I have is, because of the difference in angle, when the sun high it now reflects off the gas cap right to the spot on the windshield I look. I guess I need a gas cap cover?

Nitrogen expands and contracts less due to heat so it is useful for racing applications.. It also has a slightly bigger molecule so theoretically it leaks out slower.. But I ask, if it leaks out slower, after a few times of having to put air in a tire, wouldn't be virtually all nitrogen anyway?

I was looking to buy a bike that would be comfortable two up. I knew I wanted water cooling, stereo and intercom. Being only an hour from Daytona, I did test rides on the Venture, the Wing and the BMW LT at Bike Week March 06. I was still undecided, liked them all. I did a search and joined several Venture, the Goldwing 1800 site and the BMW LT sites and read all about the pros and cons of the bikes at each site to have an idea what to expect. Still had a hard time deciding, test road them all again at Biketoberfest 06. Still was having a hard time deciding but was leaning toward the Venture. In Jan 07 took the wife in to look at one and she thought the blue/black was good looking. That was all the encouragement I needed, so I bought a Venture. I know my join date shows Jan 07, but I'm pretty sure I actually joined here, possible under a different name, a year or so before.

There are only 5 true full dressers, RSV, Harley Tour Glide, Goldwing, BMW 1200LT, and the new Victory. Test ride them all. The RSV was the most comfortable for me, cheapest and best warranty to boot. But I think I could have been happy on the Wing or the BMW also. The wife thought the BMW had the most comfortable passenger seat, but as long as she was not uncomfortable I was OK with it If it wasn't for her I would be on an FJ1300 or a Guzzi Breva. But since I moved to a full dress, not sure I could go back.

RSV Front Tire Size Recap
hig4s replied to V7Goose's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
How much load do you put on your bike? All stock size front tires have a load capacity of 761lbs, the Avon Venom MT90B-16 has a load rating of 827 lbs, another thing to consider. Also the load rating on the rear Venom in stock size but with wide white walls, is 992lbs, most are 827lbs. -
I have a plug kit I carry with me, and if necessary will use it. If it is a front tire I will probably buy a new one as soon as possible. If rear, depends on where I am. I the middle of a long trip I would be more likely to replace the tire than if I was around home. I have run plugs in rear tires for a couple thousand miles with not problem.

The db of sensitivity is the rating that tells you how much sound come out at a given power input.. the ones in the link are 91db,, that is pretty good for a small speaker. A lot of home floor speakers are no better than that. About the best you will find in any 4in speaker is 93db http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?i=108427I&tp=102 http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?i=108429I&tp=102 both those are 93db but they are more, and not listed as marine, so may or may not take the weather as well.

I'm not trying to be snippy, please don't read into the words something that isn't there. I never said car tires were designed to be ridden on their edges, I even stated that because of the side wall flex, the tire will remain flat right up until it can flex no more. That would definitely make them not a good thing on any bike that was to be leaned to extremes. But RSV have what lean angle before hard part hit the ground. Once hard parts hit and start lifting the tire off the ground, what kind of tire it is becomes irrelevant. I have also stated that I wouldn't use a car tire, but I try to remain open minded as the to possibility, seeing as car tires have made amazing progress in both durability and traction over the last 30 years, motorcycle racing tires have made amazing progress in traction over the last 30 years, but cruiser and touring tires don't seem to be any better than the tires I had on my 78 Yamaha XS650 back in 78. As far as those that want to know what I do, that has little to do with anything. And experts can be wrong, experts from big corporations are always, by corporate direction, overly conservative. Yamaha states right in the owners manual that any tire other than the stock Bridgestones or the alternate Dunlops are not tested and should not be used. Virtually everyone here is using tires the experts say you should not use. Tire companies will not release their secret rubber compound information, but the Bridgestone Potenza RE050s on my Acura were definitely softer than the tire on my RSV, and they lasted 40k on my car. I have tried to figure the lbs per sq in of tire patch but it just is not that easy. But it sure seems to me that as motorcyclist we are being taken advantage of and that motorcycle tires could be made to last if the manufacturers wanted them to.

I did that too, a month ago, the original battery would charge up and work for a couple days then I'd have problems again. this happened twice so I bought a new battery. But I was waiting for it to happen a third time before I took time to put in the new battery. I never happened. Yesterday I put the new battery in anyway, so now I have two. The old one is on the battery tender now.

Let see, I stated 4 facts,, and used the word fact before each one. which ones are you disputing That sports car tires are as sticky as the stock tires on the RSV? That a car tire going in a straight line will have a bigger contact patch than a motorcycle tire? That car tire sidewalls are designed to flex and higher profile tires will flex more than low profile tires? and/or that Pirelli has been making tires with multiple compounds and they could do it on motorcycle tires if they wanted to?

Yellow wolf is a member of another forum I've been on longer than I've been here, and he can ride a wing up and down the dragon as fast as any non-professional racer can run a full on sportbike. If he says he was leaning the wing as far as on a motorcycle tire and it was not unsafe, I personally will believe him. I don't see where they spend squat testing touring motorcycle tires, they spend it all on racing applications which are as far removed from full dress touring as car tires are. Many bikes come standard with radials, including full dress touring bikes, (Like the wing!!) If it wasn't for a few rouge people, Airplanes, helocopters, and motorcycles wouldn't exist!!

Yeah, mm not cm... Doh! I didn't realize they measured them differently. But after looking up the official info, the bike 150 is 6.3in at the widest point and the car 155 is 6.1in at the widest point not a lot of difference.
