  1. I paid $135 a tire for Avon Venoms and $70 for labor last month when I put new tires on. $363.80 with tax for both tires,, I did remove the side bags myself to keep the labor price down.
  2. ++,, good example, one of the best engineered minivans over the last 20 years was the Ford Aerostar, but by the time is was actually produced it was one of the least dependable and worst constructed.
  3. He told me he is about 3 weeks behind on the cables, so I'm being patient.
  4. Better still are the researchers that are modifying algae to produce hydrogen as a byproduct. If the two groups would get together we could probably have a hydrogen car infrastructure within 5 years. As far as bio-fuel, I'm not sure why we aren't using sugar cane like Brazil.
  5. OK, I've already put my vote in for Eureka Springs AR,,, but to the idea of regions,, if you consider Edmonton the Northern edge of the bulk of the membership area, and Miami the Southern edge, the Pacific Ocean the Western edge, and Halifax the Eastern edge, you end up with the center being about the same place as I said before: Wichita Kansas... So draw a horizontal and a vertical line through Wichita on your maps and rotate every 4 years into each quadrant. And just to help gum up the works, how about Braselton GA, right by Road Atlanta, day trip distance from the Tail of the Dragon.
  6. For those that said South Dakota is "Fairly centrally located" It is too far North to be central, especially from Florida. Eureka Springs or Pueblo CO, are about a central as you can get and still have decent roads. The actual center is around Wichita KS. Eureka Springs: 1250 miles from New York, NY: 1890 from San Francisco, CA: 664 from Minneapolis, MN: 664 from San Antonio, TX: Pueblo CO: 1818 from New York, NY: 1381 from San Francisco, CA: 1029 from Minneapolis, MN: 837 from San Antonio, TX: I say Eureka Springs, I have a hard time getting more than a week at a time off from work, so anything over about 1400 miles becomes out of enjoyable range.
  7. The single wheel uni-go trailer is great, don't have one but know people that do, is not noticeable even behind a 750 sport touring bike.. ups: small, light, fits through a door so can be stored in a hotel room downs: small, not much room, expensive.. Btu iff I were to get one the uni-go would be what I would get. but for price the Pigger backers are great too, tow fine, friend at work has one. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PIGGY-BACKER-MOTORCYCLE-CARGO-TRAILER-PIGGYBACKER_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35557QQihZ001QQitemZ110268859927QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
  8. I know a couple that have installed this [ame=http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00029WQTW/ref=nosim/arm06-20]Amazon.com: Audiovox CCS100 Universal Vacuum Cruise Control: Automotive[/ame] on a couple of different types of bikes.
  9. One other issue, not really with the bike but how cheap Yamaha is,, the stock Bridgestones are terrible, the front one is very noisy. You will want to replace them long before they wear out with either Avon Venoms, (my choice) Michelin or Metzler tires (Some have experienced failures with Metzler 880s) Also changing from the stock extra wide front 150/80-16 to a MTB90-16 (140/90-16) makes a huge difference in handling.. (140/90-16 is a valid safe size tire for the stock rim)
  10. My 07 now has 11k miles on it, got it in February 07, not one problem so far.. All brands have problems and you tend to hear about those problems a lot on each brand's specific website as that is where everyone goes to complain and try to learn the fixes. Before I bought my Venture I spent time on a Goldwing site and a BMW LT site and there were as many complaints about issues there as there were complaints about the Venture here. (actually I think the BMW site had a higher percentage of owners with complaints) As far as the windshield, yes you look through it, and the stock screen is fairly flat and upright and does not shed water for beans, definitely was an issue. I like looking through the screen so I bought an XXL Clearview with vent for my bike.. it is taller, wider, but sweeps back more and at highway speeds water is blown off much better. Still in traffic when it is raining with the fine mist from other vehicles, there are times it becomes a little difficult to see through and I have to stop to clean it off. The other option is to buy a shorty screen that you look over.
  11. Best Buy lists the zumo 500 for $899 on their web site but many of the stores are clearing them out for $539 as an in store special only. If you go to the website, look up the 550 then use the link to do a search for a local store with one in stock you may get lucky.. The web site continues to show $899 but if you have a local store with one in stock, call them, they may be doing the in store special. There were none in stock anywhere near me in North Florida but another store by a friend had one, he picked it up for me and is shipping it to me. I also noticed two stores in Orlando show them in stock.
  12. www.lakehillmotors.com Corinth MS, 60 miles West of Florence AL. Checked their website,, they show they still have an 07 Black for $14,699 and 08s for $15,299. that is out the door,, you pay tax/title when you get it home.
  13. 0 psi is stock, but even at 0, a sealed shock will be stiffer than a leaking shock,, They put it at 0 because that is where the ride is cushy soft,, but I run 5 psi front, max is 7.1 psi, and 40 psi rear max is 57psi. If you ride 2 up or loaded for long trips, 0 is definitely not enough with a stock shock..
  14. After a little research, the only brand I could find that makes a 170/70-16 is Bridgestone.. Venoms use to come in 180/70-16, you should still be able to find one of those, and the Avon AM-21 comes in 130/90-16 it should work fine with a Venom rear, if you can fit a 180
  15. I just look up some dyno charts for the 99 Venture and they show the rev limiter kicking in a 6k.
  16. They have a rev limiter that limits the RPM to (I believe) 5.6k, and seeing the engine is based on the V-max and can safely rev to over 6k, there is no real need. Just get on it,, I've actually on ever hit the rev limiter once in 11k miles on the bike.

    Final Oil

I use either Mobil 1 75w-90 gear oil or Castrol Syntech 75w-90 gear oil. I read a test on 14 gear oils,, Amsoil rated #1,, Mobil 1 #2, GM synth axle #3, Castrol Syntec #4 and Red line synth #5.. Royal Purple synth, Mopar synth, and Lucas synth all rated lower than Vavoline, Castrol or Penzoil conventinal gear oil. Castrol Hypoy conventional was the top rated conventional, 8th over all. Mobil 1 was the lowest priced of the top 5, Castrol second lowest priced, that is why I use them. I guess I should list all 14 all the synths are 75w-90 the conventionals are 80w-90 1 Amsoil 2 Mobil 1 3 GM synth axle 4 Castrol syntec 5 Redlin synth 6 Pennzoil synth 7 Valvoline synpower 8 Castrol hypoy (conventional) 9 Torco SGO synth 10 Valvoline High performance (conventional) 11 Pennzoil gearplus (conventional) 12 Royal purple max-gear 13 Mopar synth 14 Lucas synth
  18. The RSV, the Goldwing, and the BMW 1200LT are all fantastic 2 up bikes that are very comfortable for the passenger.. A small percentage of all of them have their problems, If you got a bad one and don't feel comfortable staying with Yamaha, the Honda and BMW are great alternatives. I would do the same thing. They are all such great bikes if I had the money I would probably own one of each.. Just remember you don't have to leave the forum just because you leave the bike.
  19. If the symbol was wrong, you didn't do your math correctly.. when you get to the symbol page, every possible number that can come from subtracting the sum of the digits from the two digit number will be the same symbol.
  20. There is a problem with the author's assumptions that this is unfair against motorcycles, and he sites the idea that a Ford owner would have to go back to the Ford dealer for a muffler to obey this law. But there are approved and certified aftermarket auto exhausts, there are no approved and certified aftermarket motorcycle exhausts.. Harley makes optional exhausts that are certified, but only a few aftermarket companies make exhausts that even meet all states sound levels, and they have not been applied to the feds for certification so are still illegal. If all the states did this, aftermarket companies would start producing certified exhausts, problem solved.
  21. I run 5 psi forks (max is 7 psi) and 40 psi in the shock, (max is 57 psi), and at times the shock seems a little soft to me when 2 up fully loaded. I don't go any higher because it seems just right for me riding 2 up after we get to our destination and unload trunk and luggage rack.

    Rad bikes!

There is something just WRONG about a quad Goldwing, yet I LIKE it. What's wrong with me?!?!?
  23. Part of what they are trying to do here in Florida is to stop all the over the top squids from buying and riding bikes.. And I think that is a good Idea but the fact that they do not require any insurance on a bike here until you have had an accident and cannot pay damages is one of the reasons they have so many squids. If they just required insurance like on a car there would be less problems. As it is now all the import tuner squids with tons of tickets that cannot afford insurance just buy bikes to avoid insurance. And of course most don't have endorsements. I actually think the law to stop dealers from selling bikes to individuals without an endorsement is a decent idea. Forces dealers to actually pay attention.
  24. Harley slip-on are not after market, but non-stock production pipes that are tested by the factory same as the stock pipes.. Just another great marketing ploy by Harley to make their bikes not seem as expensive as they really are. They should just be an option at no or minimal cost. As far as I can tell Hard Krome has a new dual wall construction to reduce sound levels and they have several patents on it, and may meet state and federal sound levels, I don't see where they are tested or stamped approved by the EPA
  25. For the most part I just think this shows how inattentive and big brother reliant the average American is. People constantly complain that government is too controlling but then want the government to ban cars that are too quiet because they don't want to have to "look both ways before crossing the street" Wait, where have I heard that before? Oh, from my parents about a million times from the time I was 4 until I was 12. The only somewhat valid argument for cars being too quiet is coming from the NY city association for the blind, saying the blind in the city cannot hear them over the other cars while crossing streets.
