    Third fuel pump. My Wife's last year. Mine this Spring. Bought a facet pump 40171. So far so good

    2nd time on the side of the road. Wife's fuel pump with 51,000 km's. The Dealer is getting me a new one under warranty. I remember seeing some of the replacement pumps, will have to check out the archives. Are they solid state? Maybe carry one in my side bags. I haven't looked but I'll bet my bike's fuel pump is almost as bad, it has 56,000 km's. Yamaha wants $330.00 if you buy it yourself.

    I swapped batteries put mine in Hers and it started right up. Charged hers and got it tested everything was good, then put it in mine. Got the charging system checked out, no issues, $71 bucks please. I also went out and got a couple of fuel filters. Sucks though, are we destined to meet the side of the road again?

    We got stranded last friday on the 401. Cruising about 70mph passing a truck looked back no wife? Had to drive to the next overpass and it was a good ten minutes until I finally got back to her. Its an 09 rstd. Question The ignition switch had been left on over night and the battery was low and I jumped started it. Thought a nice long ride would bring it back up. The only accessory she had on was her sirius radio/mini amp I'm guessing here but, 2 to 3 amps?? The bike has an led tail light so that should almost negate the radio being on. Does the charging system have the juice to recover the battery? I remember a post but couldn't find it. Goose, you put on a volt meter sounds like a good idea where did you get it? What I found when getting back to the bike. Deb said it felt like it was running out of gas, sputtered a few times and died. She had tried to start it with no luck. I opened the gas cap lots of gas and the tank wasn't in a vacuum but then it was 10 minutes and it could have equalized. Turned on the ignition didn't hear the fuel pump. Battery didn't have enough juice to turn it over. Trailered it home. When I got it home I turned on the ignition switch and the fuel pump clicked about ten times, the battery must have recovered some??? What do you think? Battery discharging during the ride til it was too low to allow the fuel pump to run?? I don't have a good volt meter but it is over 13 volts while bike is running, accessory's on Thoughts?? Thanks

    We like NC, Smoky's and the Parkway, had a great time with no problems. Only rained the first day so the bikes stayed in the trailer. The rest of the time we cruised. Bikes got misted in the clouds on the parkway but no issues. Was a little surprised at the amount of traffic even mid week. But then trees are changing color. Guy went down on the dragon, not sure what happened but looked like a trailer detached from a car, didn't see the bike but the guy was laying in the middle of the road and police were directing traffic. Hope He's okay. Starting to think of next year, any suggestions?

    Update. I've had the battery box and coolant reservoir out twice. The first time I cleaned all the connectors I could find and used dielectric grease on them. Put it back together and it was still running on two cylinders, but the opposite two? Back apart again and I cleaned out all the connections and reassembled without grease and its running again. Took it out for a three hour tour and everything seems okay. Ran out of time to test with water, i'm working til Friday and we're heading to NC Saturday. So its untested that way, those of you in NC if you see a big guy riding B on the back of his Wife's bike please don't get in an accident while laughing We're going to trailer them down so we'll try to avoid riding in the rain.

    You would think so? But not sure. I was afraid the bike wouldn't be ready by Friday if I left it to them. We're heading to NC for ten days. Hope the weather is okay

    Not finished yet but will check all the connectors I can find. Hope to get the bike working this week. We are planning to head down to NC first week in Oct. for two weeks. Wife said if my bike doesn't work I can ride behind her. Now, that would be a sight, I'm a big guy.

    Thanks David, I Got the bike running again and used a spray bottle on the left back, it stalled out again. Removed the battery and battery case, not an easy task when you do it for the first time. The Ignitor unit far left connector looked real dirty and wet. Didn't check but if it feed 1 & 4 coils it would make sense. Also noticed on the back side of the ignitor that one half was smooth and the other by the dirty connector was all lumpy. Is that a sign of overheating, or the unit on its way out? Talked to a mechanic at the local bike dealer and he said they have never had to change that unit. Blowing smoke, I don't know. Interested in hearing everyone's thoughts?

    Good post, amazing how we do so much on instinct. Just a few thoughts that most of us already know. My wife and son took a defensive riding course together when just starting out and I heard them talking about push steering around obstacles. I had never heard about it before, push left to go left? I never thought about how I was turning before, just leaned the bike.. Push steering changes direction rapidly which might give us a couple of inches. Looking at a drivers eyes when coming into an intersection doesn't help, some are looking right through you. I watch for front tire movement.

    Please, need some help. Got caught in a very heavy rain in the ozarks. Cars going by sent waves of water. Anyway, couldn't get the bike to run properly the next day. It would run on full choke only #1 & 4 were cool and not firing, pulled #1 plug it was wet with gas. Put the bike in my trailer and had to ride two up on my wife's bike, thank God she let me drive. Two days later when we got home the bike started okay and took it for a 1/2 hour ride. 4 days later I washed the bike it started but after about 30 seconds it started to miss and quit. About 15 minutes later I tried again and it seems to be running okay again. Looks to me like a moister problem. Not really sure where to start. I took the seat and side covers off and was thinking of misting around the coils and connectors with a spray bottle while it was running but thought I better check to see if anyone else has had this problem. Also thought of taking the connectors apart and use some dielectric grease on them. Not sure if it could be used on the coil wires? Thanks in advance

    No solution, just some thoughts. Why some bikes have no whine or chirp is a mystery? My 05 rstd was bad, changing baskets didn't help. Masked the problem by installing a stereo system. Had it for almost 5 yrs and over 90,000 kms. We now have two 09 rstd's, bought them out of the crate in 2010. No whine or chirp, and now approching 40,000 kms. Our riding partners, 08 Venture and 0? rstd don't appear to have the problem either? Those are pretty good odd's. So, what's different or changed? Maybe we're just lucky or it could be its our age.

    Easier than splicing, get a couple of solderless female disconnects with a piggyback male. Temp switch will run as normal but you can switch fan on manually with a switch from the two extra wires.

    No question, the back rest was the best mod.

    Welcome. They would be quieter but that should be it. The carb sync if its out, will help with the vibration. When I bought my 09 rstd I could feel the vibration on the grips and floorboards. After syncing it was smoooooth.
