  1. I don't know what category most here fit into, but I am over 40 and not a returning rider. I myself have been riding 31 years with no more than 1.5 years going between bikes. I can see where people give it up to raise a family and then decide to start riding again and the size and power of bikes has increased a lot since my early days.
  2. Known for a long time not to drive with CC on in the rain, snow, or ice. If I'm not mistaken it's also a warning that is in each cars owners manual, at least it was on my Ranger.
  3. The bike can be fixed, you are more important and we are glad you are still around to tell us what happened. Hope you mend fast.
  4. I use the WD-40 method and the hair spray. A word of advise on the hair spray though, be careful in the rain because it will loosen the hold and the grip will spin and can come off if pulled. Once it drys again everything is fine.
  5. That was Awesome thx for sharing.
  6. I can't say how easy it is to mount, but a friend of mine has one and the lights are so dim as to be almost nonexistent during the day when riding behind him I have to look hard to see if they are even on. They are ok at night, but really could do with some high intensity LED to make them show up better. Personally if you are looking for more lighting there are a lot more cheaper and better ways of doing it.
  7. Yeah more than likely the tires. Check your air pressure, sometimes they will whine when low but for the most part all tires will whine some when they are worn down.
  8. I use a sheepskin on really long rides, I'm talking 4-500 miles or more. I alternate it at gas stops. Makes a big difference. I bought mine at Alaska Leathers, if you call them they can match up the right one for your bike. I bought the deluxe and couldn't be happier with their product. http://www.alaskaleather.com/prices&sizes2.html
  9. I believe they use channel 2.
  10. Group rides with other Venturers and also on other group rides someone with a CB rides up front and back with the ride captains to help keep the group together. I tend to use it a lot on road trips, I do talk to other bikes and truckers.
  11. If Wayne doesn't want it I will buy it from you. I have been meaning to do the Marshall mod for a while.
  12. Had to get that quip in about the 2nd gen didn't u Muffinman. LOL It was a great time, had fun conversing with you guys. Good to see you two made it home safe. See you next weekend.
  13. Spent a week with some Brit sailors in Puerto Rico on their way back from the Falkland Island war. What a crazy bunch of guys they were, and drinkers too. We had a blast, but they were a little bit too touchy feely for us Marines. They don't get embarrassed by too much. Two of them sang Old McDonald and had us in stitches from the animation they were doing to the song. They put condoms on all of the pitot-static tubes and flight sticks on our Harriers.
  14. Around noon then, see you there.
  15. Any decision been made as to where you guys are going to meet?
  16. Saw a special on Myth Busters that tried every kind of way to beat those cameras including this spray and it didn't even come close to blocking it.
  17. Try this, it's called the Marshall Mod and a lot of venture owners have done this. http://bludolphintravel.com/gmg/marshallmod.htm
  18. I ran mine up the left side of the handlebar and used Velcro straps to hold it there. It keeps the cord off the tank. On my first 99 the tank got scratched by the cord rubbing back and forth across it.
  19. I use Mr Cleans car wash system. Rinse the bike, spray the soap on, wash with a soft sponge, rinse again and then spray with the demineralized water setting. Let air dry, the only thing I have to dry is the seats and the windshield. Bike comes out spotless and takes me all of 30 min to do.
  20. Here is a diagram of how Yamaha says to wire it. I personally wouldn't wire it into the head light circuit because if the fuse blows you have no lights at all. The Yamaha passing lamps are notorious for shorting the wires in the turn signals. I would run a fused wire up to the relay from the battery to power the lights. I put a weatherproof lighted switch on the inside faring just under the aux receptacle.
  21. I'm gonna SWAG it and say around 130,000, but I'm 45 and still have a lot of riding left in me.
  22. That's great. I'm gonna leave it up and turn the screen saver on so it pops up when the wife gets on the computer tonight.
  23. You're welcome. The folks at Diamond R are first rate people and a joy to deal with. I know of no one who has had anything bad to say about them and their accessories. I have had the OS backrest and can attest to the quality of their products.
