RSV is terrible on hot days. Too much air protection. Made brackets to mount a Memphis Shades Slim (cut down further) on my RSTD just to keep the pressure off torso on the hyway. Come on spring! Friend says it looks like a police or fireman shield. May have to re-shape a little more!

Sorry we2rider on the rant. Prob not what you wanted to hear. Merry Christmas anyway!

Actually I put the blame squarely at the feet of the american people. Who elect the bozo's in goverment? We do! Just ask why people vote the way they do. Because so-and-so will do this or that for me. Not what's right for the country! We're doomed because NOBODY will give up their handout even if it means the country will fall. Unions, welfare, food stamps, social security (most people pull out, or will, of it more than they have put in) now Obamacare. Yep, we're screwed! Oh, and Merry Christmas!

I'd run your D404's till they wear out (rear about 3500) but keep in mind that on mine the d404 would wobble the rear end in a corner at speed. E3 solved that. Metzler are great new but tend to wear funny as they get mileage on them. Avons are my second choice.

IMO, motorcycling is a hobby for most and with a down economy, motorcycling will be down. I also think with the way things are going that our economy will not pick up anytime soon either. In a totaly pessimistic tone, I think we're SCREWED! The debt the contry has now, I see no recovery possible.

Suggested oil for an RSTD 06
ACE50 replied to irbk's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Picked up wrong jug. What would be the problem running a 5W vs 15W? Don't ride at 0 degrees anyway. It's CJ-4/SM. -
Even though there are two air filters, they join up into one path to the carbs, then split again left and right. I don't think there is the issue of front cyl getting cooler being in front being it's water cooled. They are 122.5 on 1&2 cyl. (left side) 117.5 on #3 and 120 on #4 (rt side) They are all jetted that way stock though.

+12, Bubs are juuuuust right! As long as you can keep the packing in. I use a single rap of SS screen (26 mesh) to keep it in.

Front end question
ACE50 replied to Billkroeger's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Mine did the same thing to me once trying to clasp my helmet when I forgot. Didn't your mama tell you NOT take your hands off the bars! -
I know this is an old thread but I have one of these sync tools. $35 (tubes with two small steel balls) I have cheched it against a $200 set and it is just as accurate. I will never use anything else again as it is the simplest and most durable one I have ever used. You can deliberatly slam this on the floor with no effect. Don't have to worry about hanging it on the bike anywhere (all soft materials), small & compact. I can sync my bike in 5 minutes or less. (got to let it warm up!) Just got back from a ride/rally. Sync'ed everyone's bikes, everyone happy. My vacuume gages just collecting dust now and no chance of sucking anything into bike. JMO.

My 06 RSTD had a rear wobble at speed in corners especialy a bumpy corner. Had new Dunlop 404's when I bought it. Only got 3500 out of rear to the bars. Front in good shape still. Put on a E3 on rear and she's great now in corners. Pressures are the same before and after. The E3 seems to have a little flatter profile than the 404. Looks better too. I drive it a little harder than I should for such a big bike (no chichen strips left) but I'm happy now!

Installed K&N Air filters, performance changed
ACE50 replied to VstarAl's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I wouldn't suggest to anyone to use K&N's if they weren't willing to tune the bike for them. They will lean the bike out on a possibly already lean condition. These engines love to breath but you have to maintain the proper air/fuel ratio when you change things. I'd first plug or get rid of the AIS. That alone could get rid of the backfiring but you'd still should do some adjusting as shim the needles, adjust the pilot jets. Better yet, larger slow jets (17.5) as you can still adjust them down with the pilot screws if need be and check the floats. When done correctly, you'd hardly see a change in MPG and have a better running bike. The whole idea of a lifetime filter seems funny to me as most people do not keep there bikes for it's lifetime! After a few years they move on to something else or even stop riding. That's why there are so many older low milage bikes on the market all the time. -
I just painted them black seeing mine's a midnight anyway! Matches the bike!

Repacked and installed but......................I liked the sound better without any packing! They were just a little too loud though. Sounds better than stock, unless you dou't want to hear the exhaust at all.
-
Wanting to modify a stock gear shift lever. Second Gen. Anyone have an extra one laying around they would let go? I actually have 1" shorter single aftermarket I would trade for a good stocker. Can send a pic of mine if your interested. Thanks.
-
I'm interweaving/layering s.s. screen with my packing material this time seeing it blows out so fast. Where did you get your ceramic packing.
-
Put my stockers on to get it quiter but hate the sound compared to my BUBs. Gonna repack'em and put them back on!

old windshield laying around for RSTD?
ACE50 replied to ACE50's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
My take you up on that when you get back....... Any others? -
Unless thier fuel injected bikes are closed loop systems, (newer ones with oxy sensors) they'd have similar problems. But I have noticed a diff in power in the Blueridge mountains, and not nearly as high as the Rockey's. You'd prob be OK though.

What kind of tire is that? I know it's not a metzler or dunflop.

We bend alum all the time but use 5052. 6061 if it is a flat part.

Cut the heel toe and made just a toe shifter
ACE50 replied to muaymendez1's topic in Poor Man Tips and Fixes
I never got use to the heel toe and then decided, why do you want to lift your whole leg up to up shift when all you have to do is pivot your ankle? Too much work! Now my RSTD has just a toe shift and have much more useable space on floorboard.
