  1. Didn't care for it much, a lot of unproven ideas being thrown around to me.
  2. I get the same crap ethanol gas here. Maybe diff in altitude or riding style? Some tweaks can be done to get it to run better with a few more MPG. Stock is not necessarily best. Yamaha has to meet certain standards to sell these things.
  3. Somewhere around 96-98. It's just the flat to put one in, not the actual hole for it. I also removed the shock mount stud they have just for clearance issues.
  4. Damn it man! Now Obummer is gonna have to bail them out with a billion $ stimulus!
  5. I've had both and yes the RSTD is 5.3 gal. I know people do it, I'm not gonna. Every bike I've ridden has that lip in the gas tank. It's there to make sure you leave a vent area. You can do what you want.
  6. What do you mean 'adjusted perfect'? Completely stock measurements or slightly mod'd? I haven't seen a stock bike that couldn't be tuned better than a stock set-up. As in, every bike I've owned.
  7. Actually, you are filling it up beyond what the tank calls for and minimizing the tank vent area. IMO not a good idea.
  8. Just check your MPG then times 6 (gals in tank) and that's your total miles you can go regardless of when you hit reserve. To me, reserve is just reminding you, hey, you need to get gas soon. When you hit reserve, just subtract from your total range and that will tell you how many miles you have left. And most speedo's are off by 10%.
  9. I get 39 to 42 all the time and runs like a banshee. Check the carb synch.
  10. What's your idle RPM?
  11. MPG are a little low. When's last time you did a carb sych?
  12. Double neg. You mean you see a radiator?
  13. I've made those wire pieces before. I'd take a Go Cruise type any day over that. And they don't 'LOCK' the throttle anyway, just add a little friction. I've had them on all my bikes except the RSTD. I do use a 'throttle boss' though. Better than a 'cramp buster'.
  14. Not sure about the fjr s.d. It's probably cheaper because who wants to say: "I put an fjr s.d. on my bike", vs "I put a VMAX shaft drive on my bike!" See the difference! Actually I wish you had posted this about 5 months before, I got my VMAX unit. I'm curious now................
  15. Off idle flat spots can be rid of by putting one size larger slow jets. I've done this to numerous bikes. It gets worse by adding K&N's and opening the air box some. Bigger slow jets fixes this and you'll love your bike even more! It will even help with getting rid of popping on decal.
  16. I'm thinking a lot of problems with the fuel pump is just the contacts that can be replaced. Mine is working fine but I checked them anyway, and ya, they are pretty worn. Bike has 26K on it. I just purchased some $30 contacts to have around when I do have problems. A lot cheaper than $150 or so for a new pump.
  17. It's a PITA to get the shaft back in the U joint. My first time was with it stuck in the shaft drive unit then install the whole unit. Now I put the shaft in the U joint THEN install the shaft drive unit. That was a little easier.
  18. I have a set on my bike now, Tour Deluxe. BUT I also have a set of Bubs I can put back on and sell the stock ones. Nice thing about the Tour Deluxe ones are they have tips that can be removed or tuned in any quadrant you want...........................PLUS Mine are drilled out, BUT...................... when you put the tips back on, they cover the holes back up, so you have the variety of both holes or no holes.
  19. The Garmin Nuvi 360 is the same as the 660 only the 360 has a smaller screen. Both discontinued. I bought a used 660 cheap on ebay and am happy with it. Needs a new battery though. Nuvi models are not water proof but the Zumo models are. I just put a baggy over it if it threatens rain.
  20. Just trick glasses. And I'm not a nerd!
  21. headed for Navy Recruit Training in Great Lakes(Chicago). In winter time! At least I got to go to San Diego in winter for basic. Loved it. The weather, not basic. It sucks.
  22. Most that added holes (I just opened up inlet) didn't do any carb changes. Adjusting needles don't help, you just decrease your MPG. I found larger slow jets were the ticket to match the airbox changes. My friend who is a carb genius even says it runs perfect now.
  23. To get the best out of the K&N's, you need to open up the air box opening 50% and change out the slow jets up one size. You should feel a noticeable improvement. Still get 40 MPG. A VMAX shaft drive really helps too!
  24. Ya, and in 15 min you can save 15% on your car insurance.............
