  1. I ride pretty easy and get at least 40mpg and have gotten upper 40's to 50mpg once in a while...when you said you oiled your K and N filter a bell went off....there are numerous threads on this and other bike forums like goldwing and harley forums where low mpg numbers are linked to k and n filter that were cleaned and oiled....go back to the stock filters and see what happens.....ride a tank nice and easy and see what happens....
  2. You must be in south FL...not much an issue in 90% of the rest of the state...try SW TX sometime...
  3. Cut yours....pretty easy....use masking tape, mark the line, jig saw with fine tooth blade, block sand the edge...done....
  4. I'm heading down, about 50 miles from here, will try to get over and saw hey....in recent years there hasn't been much going on inside the speedway....mostly at destination daytona, outside the speedway and on the riverfront....
  5. Rode home, 2 up, the other evening, mostly in the dark on country roads....50-55 mph, taking it easy...filled up yesterday....182mi....3.7 gal....50 mpg....usually get 42 at 70mph or so.....likin' this bike more and more...
  6. I think I got it...there is a brake light relay somewhere according to the wiring diagram....must be the reason the modulator/flasher won't work???
  7. A real head scratcher..not sure of what could possibly be "incompatable"...the lights work normally without the unit installed and the modulator worked on regular lights and leds at the factory....not in my garage no matter how it was wired...not rocket surgery to install...and originally it worked for 5 months on the LED bar...HUH?....
  8. Had a signal dynamics back off brake light flasher install since last august, now it won't flash, wired to the led bar, removed it wired it into the stock brake light, no flash, wired it into both, no flash, took it up to the "factory" here in FL, 10 miles away, they were VERY helpful, talked to the owner/engineer, he tested it and gave it back, rewired it including a resistor he provided, no flash, took it back, they tested it on several heavy and light load light, worked perfectly, gave it back, "incompatable maybe" he said...can't seem to make it work on my bike, he did give me a 10 cent tour of their place, very cool, he said that could build all their products over seas but they don't to keep jobs over here, if you are looking for cool products, check them out, "signal dynamics"....any ideas what to do now?
  9. So I guess you will stop giving the "wave" now...hope you enjoy the harley, I looked at them and couldn't get off the $$$...
  10. If the thermostat is stuck, you wouldn't get 5 miles....probably a small leak somewhere....top off the coolant and start it up...look for a drip under it...get the valve adjustment kit from the guy that is also on this forum..comes with everything you need and it's not a bad job to do....the worst case scenerio....coolant getting into the suspect cylinder....top off the coolant...warm the bike up real well...pulls the plugs and wait a few minutes....crank it over with the plugs out and see if any water is expelled from the plug hole....good luck and let us know what's what....
  11. Pull the plug and use a bore scope first....they do have one right?.....if the case has a hole in it...done...what else is there to factor in?.....make sure there is oil in it and start it up....$600 bucks to diagnose it is ridiculous....
  12. 800mi a day is tough on any bike....600 a day is reasonable....4-500 a day is fun....both are basic interstates...I 10 gets closer to the coast, new orleans, pensacola etc....take some long day trip loops, 5-700mi to get used the grind.....we were on the road at dawn, stopped every 100 miles, took a long lunch and did 500mi each day without too much trouble...
  13. I have to say that after 3 long trips on my old 1500....4200mi, 3800mi, 2400mi...my new RSV is more comfortable for me and my wife....we can ride longer without getting stiff/sore the way we used to on the wing....it must be a combo of the seat and seating position....haven't ridden an 1800...I hear the test ride will make you sign papers....both have plenty of power and these days I like the 42mpg on regular....
  14. I seriously doubt that the clearance would be much different between 90 degrees and 50 degrees....
  15. I would think about a 1-3 yr old BMW r1200rt with low miles...they take a real depreciation hit early on....the R series is alot less complicated that the K series...k is water cooled and the engine is really buried...the R is oil cooled, a twin, and is alot easier to service....the riding position of both are very different than an RSV...the BMW's aren't great 2 up bikes.....the wing is a great bike, one ride will convince you....I can't get off the cash so I got an 06 rsv and really like it....good luck
  16. I used a pair of kuryakyn "p clamps".....#4018...attached easily to the turn signal stems....can mount a number of available lights from wally world, advance...etc....
  17. You need to adjust your valves! once the start to burn there's no going back...pull the heads and repair....I just did my valve adjustment last week...got the kit from a gentlemen in GA that loans out the kit for free...just pay shipping...it has the tools, shims, feeler gauges etc to get it done....doing it the first time it took me 4 hours....doing it again I could probably do it in 3....no need to pull the carbs, there is alot of info in other forums describing the process and offering lots of advice....easier for me to check tight or loose, pull the shim, go up/down one step and re-measure....not rocket surgery.....
  18. Sorry to hear of your loss, got a hole in your heart that can't be filled...at least he didn't have a long, drawn out and painful battle....still, it sounds like he will be missed....good luck on your home sale....
  19. I thought I heard some clutch basket whine.....not a bad showing against a wing....

    How

High of 48 today and we are FREAKIN' OUT....you canadians need to keep your air to yourself....just send us your beer.....
  21. Heard of several situations where the mpg drops after installing k and n filters....some are over-oiled that then acts like dirty filters....
  22. I have 31K on my, new to me venture, what do I need to do to use the kit you so nicely put together?....Happy to pay all shipping and replace used shims...thanks, Mick in FL
