  1. I put one on my '84. Didn't notice enough difference for the money. I would spend that $125.00 on rear suspension parts. My stock brace was not cracked or anything though. The superbrace guy said he finds a lot of stock fork braces with cracks around the holes. Just my 2 cents!
  2. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&viewitem=&item=260288717633 Saw these on eBay. I have some but MAW says they are dealer only items now. Might turn out to be a good deal for someone here.
  3. My clutch started slipping in 4th under hard acceleration. I changed oil to motorcycle oil and that helped for a while. Finally, I broke down and replaced the clutch pads and it's been great ever since. I dod not replace anything else except the slave cylinder rebuild. It is not that hard to get to. Under the left side chrome cover.
  4. Are you sure it's rubber? The granular surface sounds like plain rolled asphalt roofing. If it is rubber definately do not put asphalt patch on it. It will make your problem worse before long.
  5. They push backwards to remove. Mine have scratches from hitting something so lay a rag or shop towel over them first.
  6. Don't forget to cut out the plasatic connector and solder your wires together. My plastic was all melted from a bad connection. i always suspected bad connectors as the cause of the stator failure.
  7. I bought a PC680 Odyssey AGM Battery off ebay. I've never been happier with the starting power I have now. Never a problem even after sitting for over a month.
  8. I agree with the progressives. Bought mine from mawonline.com they are not expensive and relatively easy to do.
  9. This sounds like exactly what happened to me. There is a spring loaded damper thing in the middle gear that split in pieces. I couls see it by removing the swing arm and looking through the hole where the u-joint comes out of the engine. Not much metal shavings but it was broken in pieces. I think it's called the driven cam. Anyway, mine split into pieces, made a grinding noise and the engine had to be split to repair. Cost me about $500.00.
  10. I just bought a pair of Kendas from http://traxms.com/ . I think they were $135.00 delivered. I was hesitant because they were so cheap buy now that they are broken in I like them better than the Dunlops I had on before.
  11. www.sierra-mc.com has replacement antennas for first generations. And lots of other stuff.
  12. I just bought some tires from traxmc.com. Very good prices but you have to mount your own. Mine is fine without balancing so far. It was a pain to mount still.
  13. All of the above. I just got my J&M's in but I'm nervous about connecting. I guess I'll see what happens. The IMC's are kind of cheap.
  14. I'm on my 4th set of passenger headsets in 4 years. The drivers set which gets used all the time doesn't break. Could there be something in my wiring burning these out? Last ones were IMC-HS-G35U-FIVE PIN OPEN OR FLIP FRONT HELMET HEADSET.
  15. Too busy this week to get to it. I need to get my bike onto the center stand while it's on the jack. Maybe Sunday and Monday.
  16. Thanks guys! The bushings and colar between the Swing Arm and Arm1 are worn pretty baddly. They definately need replacing. Right now the bike is up on the jack getting a tire change. Can't get the swing arm off without putting it back together again! I will do all 6 though while I have everything apart. P.S, How do I add grease zerks? Just drill and tap?
  17. The bushings that connect the upper swing arm to the lower are loose on the swing arm. When I look up the parts on line it looks like they are 2 pieces, an outer and an inner bushing. How do I get the outer one (collar) out of the swing arm? They are worn so much that the bushing wobbles inside.
  18. Mark, I lost my shift pin and didn't find it until I took my engine apart to fix my middle gear. It was in the oil pan. I still have it here in Gahanna if you need one!
  19. I ran across this while surfing. http://www.govdeals.com/eas/itmDisplay.cfm?itemID=11&acctID=1589 Ad says 1984 but it sure looks newer than a 1985. I didn't know they made Venture police bikes.
  20. I have an '84 Vebture Royale. The front tire is wearing more on the right side than the left. This does not seem possible to me. I need a new tire but I don't want to replace it yntil I find out why the tire is wearing this way.
  21. SOmetyhing l;ike this happened to me. I took off the swing arm and looked into the middle gear. I saw something had split in half. It woild astill move but barely. There is a part called the driven cam. I had to split the crank case to repair.
  22. Thanks. I think I'll take it apart when it gets cold. My intercom volume goes up and down when I go over a bump too. Maybe I can clean them out.
  23. My radio has been intermitantly broadcasting FM when it is supposed to be AM. I was listening to AM the other day on 1230AM and all of the sudden it was broadcasting 103.5 FM. I tuned to the normal FM and when I switched back to AM it was working right again. This has happened a couple of times now. Anybody have this happen before?
  24. There is good information out there to test your stator just by unplugging it and testing with an ohm meter or starting ant testing the voltage across all 3 pairs of connections. The voltage or resistance should be the same across all pairs. If the stator tests good, cut the connector out and solder the wires. The resistance of a bad connection will get hot enough to melt the connector. If the stator tests bad you'll have to order a new one.
  25. This looks like an aftermarket fork brace. Not stock. Item number: 170135838976 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/yamaha-venture-royale-1200-fork-brace-chrome_W0QQitemZ170135838976QQihZ007QQcategoryZ10066QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
