  1. First let me say thank you for your honesty. Second, my own experience I travel the southeast for work and stopped at a gas station off I-26 in Newberry, SC. Went to the door of the station and it was locked. This was about 2:00 pm in the afternoon. Female clerk just shook her head from side to side in a "no" manner. This was pretty weird in my world, so I went back to my car, pulled away from the station and called 911. Ten minutes later a Newberry County sheriff shows up. Turns out the lady working had to use the restroom and locked the door while she was taking care of business. The officer came up to me and asked if I was the one that called. I said yes, he asked me for my license and ran my dl #. Of course I had nothing to worry about but the more I though about it the more I thought what was that all about. Sometimes it is really hard to do the right thing.
  2. Thank you sir. I almost brought the red craftsman jack but it was the lighter capacity, going to look at the Harbor Freight one at the local store. Here is a link for the 20% off coupon. http://dealspl.us/imageview.php?f=108017
  3. Is the carbon adapter for 2nd gen only or will it work on 1st gen also?
  4. Perhaps it is the "Made on Friday" or "Made on day before a holiday or vacation" bike. I suspect with the large number of Harley's on the road, there break down record will still be relatively low, percentage wise.
  5. For what it is worth, when pulling an RV you want a minimum of 10% of the camper weight on the tongue. Seems like 60 is a tad high unless your trailer weighs 600 lbs.
  6. They do seem to run just a little better when there is no payment book.
  7. I would wine to if I had to ride in the snow, lol.
  8. Time to replace the dry rot tires on my 89. I was thinking of letting a dealer do it, but then remembered this process. I have a hard time with the search feature also, does anyone have the specifics on this? Also, is there an order to remove the side panels? Thanks.
  9. Enjoy the vacation and family. Nobody put's "I wished I could have worked more" on there headstone. Travel safe, enjoy the ride.
  10. Aren't they one in the same company now?
  11. Can I mount my old Mattel VVRROOOOOOMMMMM on it?
  12. Ask the current owner to pop off the side panels and take the top off the gas tank to take a look at the wiring. I will next time. Make sure no wire ties are used to hold things together.
  13. Okay, my turn saw a blue 1st gen last week in Duncan, SC (berry shoals road). Anybody here?
  14. I think I would be a little more worried about that rear tire, is it me or is it looking a little used? I'm just saying.......................
  15. We are the proverbial frog in the pot. How do you boil a frog in water? get the water hot and then throw him in? Of course not, put him in a pot of cold water and slowly turn up the heat. Never see it coming. This country is in serious trouble, but I am very hopefull people are waking up and will stand up for what is right. We need to get folks to vote in there local primaries, not wait until November. Politcial? Probably. God Bless Arizona, other states are lining up to do the right thing.
  16. Try your Readers Digest, I scored some there. If you don't subscribe, I am sure your local library does. I'm just saying..............................................................
  17. Sounds great from the Upstate of SC
  18. Man, saw that and brought back many memories. Been to G&L two or three times, had a blast every trip. Great town.
  19. I think the 2 yeld signs, was one for yielding to pedestrians. My daughter will be going for her beginners permit in June, we are using this site as a great teaching tool.
  20. Just another thought from an extreme newbie, could it be your air filter is clogged? I just changed mine, it was a foam type filter, looked home made. It appeared to be clogged, could not see any daylight from inside out. Tossed it for an original one.
  21. Mobile might be another option. We cruised out of there in December, great town. Just a thought, about 30-45 minutes from Panama City.
  22. Man I got scared when I read "i had the bike running with all the doors and windows shut". man be careful doing that, of course you probably already know. When the international m/c show came through Greenville, SC this January, I got to talking to one of the Yamaha reps and I asked if he had any dealers that "did not suck", lol. He just kind of looked down and laughed. Ended up recommending a Yamaha dealer near Fayetteville, NC. I can't tell you how many times I tried to buy a bike at a dealership, I even asked one sales guy if his showroom was a museum, or if any of this stuff was for sale. Got the dog hearing a whistle look (head cock to the side).
  23. Consider the Upstate of SC as well. Lot's of great roads, restaurants, waterfalls, campgrounds, lakes, hiking, just about anything you want. We also like Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach, just inside FL from GA.
  24. This site is awesome. I would very much appreciate the pictures if you are able to do it. I know it is a 21 year old bike, I really enjoy this bike. I have started going over things and I think I have some previous owners work that I would have done a little bit different. Thanks for all the replies. Let me ask, is it best to remove the windshield trim and headlight trim, will that give access or do I have to take the fairing apart or off? Thanks again, Don
  25. Hi guys (and gals), Hope all are enjoying the early spring. The other night I took the Venture out (89 model) and did not get far. Headlight was pointing down towards the ground. Tried the adjusting nut, no change. Next day I went to investigate. Took the front headlight moulding off, and lo and behold, the freaking headlight unit is attached with 2 wire ties, were I am assuming there should be 2 bolts. I don't know what I have gotten into, bike came with a clear title but all kinds of alarms are going off. Did I get a wrecked bike that was rebuilt? Confidence is low right now.
