  1. Make sure you have the correct Metric size wrench, and Socket. As I recall they are 6 Point, don't use 12 points !!!!!!! Also, apply heat with a propane torch !! You will need heat to get the rotor off with the Puller.
  2. OK, after a few days, how's it running ???
  3. Glad to hear it worked !! Also, going thru all the main ground connections is a good thing to do, for many other reasons. One other thought. If the remaining static, or noise is in the high frequency range of the Audio Spectrum. Then, changing Earphones, that have Less responce to the higher frequencies, might help some. But, as to which brand, I would not know.
  4. Advisable, to remove battery box, and air cleaner--- Most likly some spilled battery acid under the box that needs to be cleaned up. Good time to replace the main battery cables also ---
  5. I will assume this guy is a master electrician, and you Are Not !! ??

How many Re-Builds, how many Trannies ?? Now, to put this is perspective, I did read about a fellow ( about 10 years ago ) who had an old 50's or early 60's BMW, Boxer Twin. ( bought New ) As I recall I think it was a 650CC engine. The story went that the bike had 3 Million miles on it, when he finally hung it up ( do to his age ) Top end, valve job every 50K Bottom end overhaul for each 1 million. And 2 Tranny Overhauls for the total 3 Million. And, a one new set of carbs somewhere along the line.
  8. You have to order the parts seperatly, See the IPC on line.

    spring please

Being a Native of Minnesota, I understand. You have my deepest sympthy. I even had to shovel some here in Seattle this year. That tramatic experience brought back many bad, surpressed memories of my John Deer, with the snow blade on it
  10. Keep the eyes open for a good deal on a 1st gen, and set to work !!
  11. As rule of thumb, if its an automotive type Noise suppressioin capacitor, should be marked + goes to 12V other end goes to ground. HOwever, there is another type, called FEED Thru. Voltage goes in one end and out the other end, Then the Case, would be mounted to a ground with the bolt. OK, REPLey with the Radio Shack Part number, I will check on their site, just to be sure !!! George
  12. Not sure from what you said, but did you dissassemble those carbs? Most likley the Diaphrams, ( rubber ) are shot. thats the biggest expense. Be sure to completly Drain, and clean out the Gas Tank !!!!! Remove the Petcock, and clean the Screens on it. Also, replace the fuel filter, located behind the fuel pump. Open the Drains on each Carb bowl, and Key to ON, determine if the Pump is pumping fuel thru Each carb. No carb " Kits as such " avialable. So getting a second set of carbs it is a very good idea.
  13. This is why " We " who know, Keep these old, V-4's "" Running """ !!! Power, Torque,
  14. Well if you get it for not to much money, haul it home, give it a clean up. I'm sure you won't have any trouble selling something like that for a reasonable profit for your time and effort. Always sombody looking for old speciality cars such as that.
  15. The heated items will not draw any more current then the mfg. rateings. If you have not other added items, your OK. If you are running 55 Watt running lights, then you will be right on the edge. Turn - OFF - the running lights when useing the heated clothing. Or--- Install the upgraded STATOR, which puts out more current. Stock Stators are rated, at 30 Amps, at 3000 rpm. but on average you are only getting about 26 to 27 amps.
  16. Thanks for the reminder: Hells Canyon: For those folks back East, who have Never Heard of the Place ( I know your out there ) Research this travel destination. If you happen to be out west, its an interesting place, off the beaten path, mostly Unknown. Something different. The North/East Corner of Oregon. ( very, Off, the Beaten Path as they say )
  17. Get a can of this stuff, use on the Plugs behind the Inst Panel. ( Also, any other electrical plug you can see or get your hands on ) Also, get to the Main Ground Stud, located Under the Left Upper Fairing, ( about 3 inches, fwd, and 4 inches left of battery. and clean it ) Its not easy to get to.
  18. I set them at Idle, the redo it at 3000, then try to split the difference. All I can say, is it was and still is running great.
  19. You could have just have left it "Stock" like me and ride. ( I only do wireing mods, and she can't see those ) !!
  20. Funny, since I moved to Washington, in 1984, I have had NO Nails in my Rear Tires. But back in Minnesota, I picked up several. Not sure if that means anything though. However I do put Ride-ON in all my Bike tires now that its avialable. Had a small stone puncture a Front Avon on the 89, the ride-on worked.
  21. I think a simple Replacement of the Clutch Springs would solve the problem. Cheap, and easy to do, one set springs, and a new gasket. OR: Install a Barnett Pressure Plate. See the 1st Gen " Maint Library " Easy to do, takes a couple hours or less of work.
  22. I do the low speed set, then take up to 3000 slowly, Record the readings, then I split the difference, and set them there. At least shoot for that. I did this this the last time, it seemed to be better,
  23. Well sounds like sombody still has a job --
  24. No, it was fat from front end all the way to back end. Looked to be OverFed!!
