  1. It wasn't a hard decision, just took awhile to except the nudge logic was giving me. We intend to travel and make new memories, as we travel down lifes road. We may be looking through a windshield, with four wheels, but we'll be seeing it from the bikers view point!! Hope to meet up at a M and E. Bill Walker aka: Lobo Hurfiano aka: Orphan Wolf aka: JAFO (just another f***ing observer)
  2. Oldest rider calls it quits. Title is up for grabs. After years and miles of adventure and misadventures. Primitive camping beside secluded lakes, scenic biways and inciting road rage, across this beautiful nation. I've noticed in the last couple of years, an increase in close calls and near-misses. Poor night vision, slowed reflexes, heaver traffic, more idiots. I had recently modified my 86 VR by adding a Voiger Conversion. I miss 2 wheeling, but it's much easier riding 2up and no hassel when stopped, but it doesn't compensate for bad night vision, slow reflexes, deafness, and senior moments!! I had hoped to retrace some of my travels with my new sweetheart/wife on the bike, but it looks like we'll be in a small motor home. I've given the bike and trailor to my good friend, Cherokee, (he's an old school biker to the bone) and encouraged him to hook up with you guys and gals. This isn't "good bye", just saying I've enjoyed time spent with you and appreciate all the help you've given. Take care and ride safe....... Lobo Hurfiano Orphan Wolf

  4. This was also my concern. After years of solitary touring, I've found my tent mate. I've never been an aggressive rider but from time to time I do have a lap of sanity, also there are things out there that can't be foreseen or controled. The answer , for me...Safety course, safety ware, a well maintaned bike, 2 twin Sable 139db. horns. I don't ride that much at night, but I'm hanging as many lights as I can support. The biggist change is a Voiger conversion kit . More stability at low speed, more relaxed at stops , easer towing ,and much more visible. Not all that great for peg scrapeing twistys,,but it only takes 10 min. to go back to 2 wheel 1up.
  5. I should have all of them. I'll check in the am and get back. I've moved and things got shuffeled.
  6. Thanks for the info. flb78 , I'm not planing any long trips untill we feel comfortable with the whole MC/camaing experiance, so I'll contenue running the Elet 3's and keep an eye on ware. Hopefully inovatione in the auto industry will bring a sutible tire to the market. Meanwhile, I'll keep listening for advice--thanks agean Bill&Julia The mic. is open-----
  7. First, a little background. I ride a first gen. Mark 2, and I've racked up a respectiable number of miles, riding one up, with full luggage and camping trailer. I don't ride fast or agressively, and prefer secondary scenic, when possible. Currently running Elite 3's. My life changed, when I found a lady who wants to share the experience. I should mention that we are both in our 70's, and not as spry and goofy as we once were. Also, our combined weight is 390 and falling (dieting). I recently added a Voiger Conversion, for stability and ease of trailer towing. I'm now looking for advise and suggestions, pros or cons, related to switching to car tires, both front and rear. What car tire size is recommended? What modifations are required or suggested? Looking forward to continuing the journey and would appreciate any input. Thank you, for your time and help. 9. Thanks, everybody, for your replies! I have to admit to a little gray lie, I have riden about 150 miles, after the conversion. I bought my kit on e-Bay, the previous owner rode a Kawasaki 1200. After buying proper hardware, a buddy and I decided it would be a snap. WRONG!! Things just DID NOT fall together. Good instructions in the manual, but 2 pages stuck together, and we missed an important step, in the begining. We got really good at "go back and do it again"! After three (3) days work, we took it to a deserted parking lot. It pulled hard to the right, but I was on a crowned street, not so bad when I got on the level. Seemed to have a lot of lean and felt soft and tippy! Made some circles and quezzy figure 8's. My sweetie, Julia, climbed on, and we did it again, felt better that time. Next day rode home, 140 miles, turnpike speed, traffic and construction, my sweetie following behind white knuckled, watching me bouncing (like I was going over speed bumps) putting skid marks in my shorts. After getting home, and standing back, looking at the set-up, I realized there was something awfully wrong. When the factory recieves an order, they set up a frame, for a particular bike Kow 1200 (DUH!!). After careful measurements, I got the frame right! Which threw every thing else out of alinement!! Go back and do it again (pete and repete!!). Also, realized that I have been riding with air pressure and preload, set for 350 lbs. I think we are ready to ride now, weather permitting. Practice, practice, practice. Only one remaining question, that I can think of at the moment: Should I change the pressure and preload, for each ride, depending on single, or 2 up with luggage? I'm 185 lbs. and Julia is 236 lbs. (and falling). Thanks, again, for all the replys-informitive and fun reading. Bill and Julia Lobo Hurfiano and Alpha Female
  10. Do'es anyone here have 1st hand experince with the Voiger conversion? I've recently converted my 86 VR but haven't had the opertunity to get any saddle time. I'm looking for riding/ handleing tips. I know I'll miss 2 wheeling, but I have a 2 up partiner now, and at 73 yr old I know my limitations.
  11. I've had this from 1958 , coutersy of a claymore APM in close proxcemity. After all this time, it's become just part of life. Masking-hearing aids cost $6k each. If I had that kind of cash I'd put it to better use--Like a scooter up grade.
  12. I've recently modified my 86 VR with a Voiger conversion that I found on e bay. the conversion was previously on a C 5 -Kawasaki voiger 1200. The hardware required for the change over to fit my bike cost aprox. $500 + SH. Up shot is--I have the compleat hardware and inst. book for the (B) frame Voiger to C5 Kawasaki Voiger 1200. Free to good home--U pay postage
  13. We'r 73 and 75 , Getting younger every day ,but I've decided to go with a voiger conversion on my 86 V R for the next long trip (CA-AK and all points in the western US and Canada. Life is good-retirement is grand.
  14. Squidley, thanks for the site info and pics. I'll check with my electronicley gifted buddy to see if we can sort things out. --nice looking install.
  15. Like RidenAgain ,I missed it. The wireing on my 86 all works but looks like a rats nest. I'd be interisted to see what you've got.
