Thanks all for the kind words. Sorry it took me so long to get back but due to a power surge that took out my DSL box I don't have internet at the house right now. Today is my first day back at work. Can't do a whole lot but at least I'm here. Bike is at the shop for the repair estimate. I want it totaled but I don't think it will be. If not it will be repaired to new and then going up for sale. Only has 2350 miles on it. Rick, my right foot was broke....the side the SUV hit me. And I have a horrendous abrasion just below my rib cage on the left side. I think that is where I hit the bars going off. As for the lady, she said she was looking for a certain street or road. Didn't see the light until she saw me. Yes, I still love motorcycles but I don't want to ever have to go through this again. And eliminating the bike does eliminate some of the risk. I've had three major traumas in my life this year. I would just like to heal up good and be "healthy" for awhile. Thanks again for your well wishes.

Finally, after being laid up and then recouperating from my bypass surgery, I got to go for a ride last weekend (7th). Rode up Hwy 31 to Montgomery where I spent the night. Took off Sunday morning to ride down 82 and 29 to Crestview and on down to the coast. I had driven this route this Spring in a bus only from South to North. Anyway, got to Union Springs where I rode around the town looking at old houses for a short time, then headed out of town. At the main intersection I had a red light. While waiting a car pulled up behind me. When the light turned green I looked and then slowly pulled out. The next thing I knew I was staring into the grille of a Dodge SUV on my right. I had no time to react; the SUV hit me, pushed me sideways about ten feet before it stopped and I fell over to the left. The bike went down hard. I rolled a little then layed there for a minute. Long story short, the impact broke the two bones just above my right foot and dislocated my ankle. They took me to Montgomery for surgery and I came home tuesday last week. I have just about given up on bikes. I am hoping that they total out the Wing, even though I really love it. And it only has 2350 miles on it. Two accidents in one year with quadruple bypass in between. And I have this horrendous scrape/bruise on the left side of my ribcage. I think that's where I hit the left handlebar going off. Well, I won't be making any ride-ins or meet and eats for at least 6 weeks. And then if I do attend it will be in my truck. I am over motorcycles. !!!!!!!

WHAT, NO PICTURES ??!! You have broken the golden rule, shame on you !! But congrats anyway !!!

Well Margaret, you can have her !!!! We don't want or need another storm for the rest of the year. One near miss is enough, thank you very much !!!!!!

Sounds like a dealer that doesn't know his arss from a hole in the ground (or else he would be Venture certified) and is trying to blow smoke up your dress !!!!! Actually, if he's a legitimate YAMAHA dealer I would think he would HAVE to be certified on ALL their products, except for maybe boats/jet skis. JMHO !!!!

mraf is correct, it has been with the RSV since they came out in 99. Some have it worse than others and a few don't have it at all. Since you have an 05 the warranty (5 year, unlimited mileage) warranty is still in effect. Go to the dealer, let them test ride the bike and have them order you a new clutch basket. The baskets have an alpha identifier, ie-"j", which I think is the most recent basket to greatly reduce the whine. If the dealer gives you any problems call the district rep, and if that doesn't work call California office. As they say, the squeaky wheel gets the oil. Stay on them; this is a known problem with Yamaha. Good luck.

Blacked out forks would also look different. Looks good, good job !!

In 2000 I took my 99 over Independence Pass, pulling a pretty loaded trailer. I did notice a little loss of power at altitude but overall the bike ran great. Saved a lot of gas going DOWN into Aspen....just coasted. I've been reading a lot of Ride Reports on the ADVRider site and everyone has that same third picture. I've got to get out there and take one for myself. Thanks for posting....great pictures.

I'm suprised the 1st Gen was able to make it across the border with that extra weight. Seriously underpaowered. Maybe the guard thought your passenger was helping to push and felt sorry for you !!!!!!!

Wpredock, I wrote up a reply to that thread then deleted it because it sounded as if I absolutely hated sportbikes. Well, I don't hate them I just hate the people who do stupid stuff on them, like the bunch that got shut down on the I10 Bayway in Mobile last week, after doing in excess of 140mph, IN TRAFFIC. Or, like the guy that passed me on the RIGHT of the right lane on the interstate. If he had hit me at the speed he was going we both would have been dead. And it's not the old fart in me either. My son rode an R1 for years; he and I rode to Oregon and back...him on his R1 and me on my RSV. I have the utmost respect for thoses that can ride sportbikes because I can't. But I have no respect for ANY rider that doesn't respect the law and those around him on the road. As for riding a Goldwing I am trying to do my part to change the opinion of people; I wave to EVERYONE. As for the other site, I just can't figure out why people want to take a fine bike like the Goldwing and change everything. If they don't like it as designed why did they buy it in the first place ???????

We may be easy but we're not CHEAP. It will cost you at LEAST one ice cream cone if you break any rules. And when it comes to ice cream you won't believe the rules we can come up with that you have already broken. SO, all I can say is bring lots of money because we LOVE ice cream

They only shoot the people that make fun of their bikes, or their old ladies, or complain about the BO. Oh yeah, don't pull their pony tails either !!!!!

Most of our retirement is in the form of thrift savings; money we put into an account and the government matches the first 5%. If the market keeps screwing around I won't have a retirement either. Have already taken a big hit with the recent big decline. Thanks to all the inside traders that are running the market, the general population is getting screwed big time. I think we should just nuke Wall Street.

That is so cool. Everyone is posting this. Saw it on another web page. But thanks for posting!!

Hey kid2, I HAD an 06 but totaled it last year. I know of an 07 black cherry, a red, a black and a silver around the Mississippi coast, I think I have also seen an 07 blue but not sure if it was a local bike. After having two Ventures I decided to do something different...went to a Wing. Hopefully I will be back on the bike this next week. Had bypass surgery 7 weeks ago. If you get up this way (Biloxi) drop me a pm before, and maybe we can at least get some ice cream. I very seldom ride over that way but if I do I'll let you know.

Boomerbike, I have two sets; one off a 99 and the other off my 06. You can have either set for packing and shipping charges. Send me a pm. I am sending you one in addition to this.

I'm not disputing your story there, but I live in Biloxi and I haven't heard anything about anyone being run off the road. The only crash I have heard about recently was the guy from Florida east bound on I10 who was rear-ended by a drunk and killed. I watch the news at least twice a day and haven't heard this but I will be watching. Unfortunately I cannot ride right now because of surgery. Where I've had problems in the past is in Louisiana around New Orleans. Don't go there anymore unless it's ABSOLUTELY necessary. That place has become murderers city !!!!!! And it ain't getting any better.

Get well soon Boomer. My thoughts and prayers will be with you. I know how you feel being down. Had my own accident last year which will require qnother shoulder surgery and a knee surgery. But that's on hold until I heal up from the quadruple bypass surgery I just had 6 weeks ago. So, don't get discouraged, all will be right soon. Mending takes time; more time as you get older !!!!

Bill, I have experienced the same thing down here in the South, but also in other parts of the country. But I have also experienced it with HD riders. I don't think it's the brand of bike I think it's the rider(s), especially if it's a group of Wings, or HDs. Since my wreck last year I was without a bike for over 6 months. Finally bought a new Goldwing and believe me I wave and talk to everyone. I have started frequenting a GL1800 group website and there are some "different" people there. Most have welcomed me with open arms but reading some of their posts it is very evident that some think their s#!$ don't stink. Come on down here to Msississippi and I'll not only wave at you I'll show you some good old fashioned southern hospitality. By the way, you got to watch out for them nor'eastern folks !!!!!!

I can't imagine how you feel even though I also wrecked last year. I seperated my shoulder and tore the ACL in my knee. Shoulder needs a 2nd surgery. Hope the healing process goes switly and well for you. I send my best wishes and prayers for a complete recovery. As to the insurance question, don't know what insurance you have but I have State Farm and considering I was also deemed at fault by the cops (but not cited) the insurance was very good to me. I took the bike to the local dealer who gave me an estimate for repair. Insurance company totaled the bike and paid me right away. They even paid for the estimate. I was so afraid they would cancel on me but they quickly insured my new Goldwing and didn't raise my rates. By the way, another biker pulled out in front of me and I hit him, but his buddies told the cops he didn't pull out in front of me. He also had State Farm insurance. I wouldn't worry too much about getting screwed by the insurance. Just get well first ! But when you do deal with them don't forget to include all your accessories and go by MSRP on the bike, not what you paid. Good luck !!!

That's about the same as 1st gens isn't it????????????????

Got my new Wing this past week, and all I can say is "GREAT" !! After having two RSVs I was a little hesitant to go to the different riding position but rode for 6 hours yesterday and had absolutely no problem. It's smooth, it's quiet, it's so comfortable, it's got plenty of power and I absolutely love it. Only problem is I have to work and can't ride as much as I want to. Don't get me wrong, I think the RSV is a great bike but I was ready for a change and I ain't looking back. If you like them, and your copilot likes it I say go for it NOW !!! Good luck !!
