  1. 38k and still on the originals both front and back. What's up with that? I guess some of you guys are more into stopping than I am!!! Last I looked at mine they still have a lot of wear on them. I would think the front would wear out faster than the rear in any case. Even though you have twice as much pad on the front. IMHO
  2. Don I've had no problems with my connection. Hope you figure this out.
  3. I rode with my buddy to the Harley shop the other day to get his idle speed adjusted. (08 Ultra Classic) His was running around 500 rpm and the oil light would come on at times. He was worried that it might be starving the top end on oil so it needed to be raised to around 950-1000. We pulled in at about 1100 with an appointment. They took the bike right back into the shop. We looked around for a while and then went to lunch. (2 250 pound guys on my Venture wasn't pretty!!) Making the long story shorter, about 1500(3pm) they come out and say it's ready. The guy said he was sorry for taking so long but that after every setting he had to turn the bike off and let it cool back down. After setting everything back to stock specs his bike went from getting 50mpg to about 40. He's not to happy with that. The idle is at 1000 though. I thought that was a lot of trouble for just getting the idle set. Yes I did show him how hard it was to adjust the idle on my Venture.
  4. I followed the instructions on this sight and plugged the ais. Not one pop since.
  5. The ones I got had the flip up sunglasses on the front. They work great and only look funky when you flip them up. LOL However for filling up the ride at the local gas station I can just flip them and I can see in the tank and see it well.
  6. I just got my glasses in from Zenni. I like them very well. I had my wife measure my, well whatever it is, and they are the best riding glasses I have. I got Bifocals and I think I paid about $60 for them.
  7. I don't know if I missed the thread but our much loved RSV is featured in a touring cruiser shootout in Rider magazine the September issue. I just got it in the mail today. we beat out the kaw, and Victory and tied with the Ultra Classic. This was a battle of the big vees.
  8. About 4 years, Lord willing, I'll be trying/doing the same thing. How bout including your sweetie in some of the pics. She's a lot easier to look at than you..LOL J/K You are living large my friend. Enjoy and keep us posted. PS You ain't to far from Alaska.
  9. IF it weren't for all the drunks on the road us medics would mostly be out of a job. And that would be a good thing. I agree that the penalties are not near stiff enough. Drink and drive. Lose your license and insurance for a year. Do it again and go to prison for a year.
  10. After installing a new tire on my BEAUTIFUL Venture it wasn't 2 days until i spotted a screw in it. Since I mount the tires myself I took the tire off and patched it from the inside. Then did 4650k in 10 days. No problems. While on a ride with some buds one of the guys had a screw in his tire. Out of town, night time, we went to Wal mart, bought a plug kit, and patched his tire. He asked me just 3 days ago when we could put a new tire on. His was worn much further than I run one and the plug was still going strong. That being said.. PLUG IT
  11. If your switch fails you will lose the dash lights along with the engine, the acc part of the switch will still work. When you install a bypass this is what you will get back. The acc part never goes out. I did the bypass on mine and put the switch under the seat that I hever bolt down. Sure enough my switch laid down on me while I was out of town. Good luck
  12. My Dad had multiple myaloma. We think it was due to him being exposed to benzine or some other chemicals where he worked. Several people had the same kind of cancer in the same work area. He was 54 when the diesease claimed his life. This was 24 years ago and treatments have come such a long way since then. Only now am I realizing how young he was. I just turned 54. We will remember you and your family in our prayers.
  13. How's about a good idea to get the shavings from the deep hole. I think I have a heli coil that is the right size. I don't think I can reach into the new threads and break off the little installation tab on the coil. Glad I have some "ponder" time here. Thanks for all the responses.
  14. I was following my cousin up in Colorado at very high elevations. I could tell my bike didn't have as much power. I still had plenty however to ask him if he needed a push when we were going up a hill and he told me he was wide open. He was riding a Harley Ultra Classic. I could easily pass him. You'll notice some loss but you will still be happy with the power and how well it runs.
  15. This could be a problem on any bike and I need some advice on it. We found the head bolt loose on a Yamaha Radian. I think that's the name. The threads were all on the bolt. Of course the bolt goes through the cylinders and is close to the middle of a 4 cylinder inline engine. Is there a way to repair it? We havn't had the bike apart and it doesn't appear that the head has been off. I've had several ideas but need some input. We really didn't want to take the engine apart. Is there a way to rethread it or maybe a stud that is self tapping with a larger set of threads. I had some head bolts that pulled out of a VW engine years ago and I found a replacement that you could put in that cut it's own threads.. That worked great long ago. Any ideas?
  16. Run your hands over the tires and see if you feel some cupping. When mine get a little wear on them they always "sing" a little in the curves.
  17. I've always left my bike on reserve. I reset the trip meter and watch the fuel gauge. Just a thought. I had a 1988 ford truck that I ran for years and neither gauge worked for the 2 fuel tanks. I just reset the trip meter at every fill up and I never ran out of fuel. It seems to me that if you always draw your fuel from the bottom of the tank you shouldn't have any buildup of gunk down there.
  18. One thing, In WWII the news was delayed by several days, weeks or evenmonths. This made it possible to report without the danger of giving our troops position away or a number of other things. I think the camera's for the most part have kept our guys from doing their job. There is always a camera there. Let's face it war is ugly!! The average American just doesn't get it anymore. Our military is designed to tear things up and kill people. If we leave them alone they couuld do a much better job!! Sorry for getting carried away.
  19. Just where was the fundraiser held?
  20. When mine did that I did the fix for the AIS. I had synched the carbs and such but plugging the AIS did the trick. I never get a backfire anymore.
  21. I've found that the more you ride the "harder" your butt gets. Take progressively longer rides and it will be easier on your back side. Getting off and walking around every little bit is good advice too. You can't just jump on a bike and take off on a 4-5,000k trip and your butt make it in good shape.
  22. I've had that problem and I just drilled the screw head off and grabbed the remainder with some pliers. Came right out. Pick a bit that is just a slight bit larger than the threaded part of hte screw. I hope when you say stripped that you mean the head of the screw. Hope this helps.
  23. Met a Venture rider on the Dragon Saturday. Told him about the site and I hope he finds it.
  24. I did the Wally world thing. Works great and really cheap. had several comments on it. I like the adjustable strap. I can put a large cup or a small on in it. It doesn't have to be tight just a little snug.
  25. I clicked on the link and 40 windows opened up. I had to shut down and restart. hope that's all that happened!! No more bad effects yet.
