Donation Fund for Ponch's Out of Pocket Medical
bongobobny replied to RSTDdog's topic in Watering Hole
As Condor says, let's wait until the need arises first, but unfortunately I'm pretty sure it will. That being said, there is nothing wrong with preparing beforehand. I will gladly match your offer Derrek! -
Odyssey battery life

Supposedly they advertised that they were designed to last up to 10 years but no warranty on that length... -

At just about the exact same time Taters was picking up her new toy, I was doing the same thing!! Yes, we each knew about both of them. As was stated in the other thread, let the chroming begin... Taters, good luck keeping that black beast looking shiny!

Hmmm, I may have clicked the wrong button! Was this on facebook?
-
Gary, when you click onto a thread, are you by any chance clicking on to the little button before the title of the thread? That little button takes you to the first UNREAD post which is on the bottom, or in other words to the post after you read the thread the last time. Click onto the title of the thread, not the buttron...
-
I did??? Well that explains that! I'll fix that right now...
-
I wish to thank each and every member who posted a Happy Birthday on my Facebook wall today! It just overwhelms me to think of just how many great friends I have made here at VR!!! How you guys knew is beyond me as the site B'Day list seems to skip me every year, not to mention that the site was down today! I love you guys!!!!!

The problem with buying another engine off Fleabay is you may get one in no better shape than you already have and end up doing a rebuild anyway. If you do a rebuild you are going to end up with a strong engine that will keep running for a real long time...

If you are going to tear the front end apart may I suggest you also upgrade the forks to MK2 forks? This will enable you to use the better 4 piston calipers and also use R4 calipers. The MK1 brakes were anemic in stopping power to say the least. You will also have to swap out your rotors with MK2 rotors but they bolt right on to your rims. Add stainless steel brake lines and you will stop on a dime and give 8 cents change...

Think I have a problem
bongobobny replied to Reddog170's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Sounds like either your floats need adjusting or the needle valves are not seating properly. Have you tried a Seafoam treatment yet??? -
Before my cataract surgery I used a pair of Bolle' glasses. They are wrap around sunglasses with different interchangeable colored lenses, and insert perscription lenses on the inside. They worked out very well for me and looked pretty stylish as well...

Project bike
bongobobny replied to lwinders's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Another thing to check is the carb manifolds, those 4 rubberized angled pieces that the carb sets on and connects to the heads. There are rubber seals on the bottom, and corrosion can and will happen between the boot and the head. I really think that your main problem is the carbs need to be rebuilt. There is a really good DVD available on Fleabay geared at the VMAX but the procedure is the same. Do a compression test on all 4 cylinders, they should be all about equal. That will also tell a tale on the intake valve on the cylinder you are concerned about... -
Whatever that is, it is not stock Yamaha but some kind of Frankenstein add on. Looks like a bunch of red wires all in parallel going to a common fuse like somebody wanted a thick cable but didn't have any laying around so they made one out of a bunch of thin ones. It's purpose is anyone's guess...

A salvage title is to warn you that the vehicle was in a serious accident and generally for insurance purposes means the vehicle was totaled. Even though the repair might look good, there are serious doubts as if it would fare as well if it were ever in a second accident. In some cases the repair can be so shoddy that the vehicle may be a death trap and literally fall apart while driving it. Other salvage titles can be from flooded vehicles that are an electrical nightmare and a breeding ground for all sorts of bacteria etc. That being said, not all salvage vehicles are disasters but the value is indeed greatly reduced. You will have to decide for yourself but myself I keep away from such vehicles...

Stealer stealing?

Yah! Rebuild your forks while they are out rather than going thru the hassle of removing the fairings again!! -
I'm Getting "Amp"'d Up
bongobobny replied to Midicat's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yes I do but I'm not thrilled with shipping to Canada due to customs hassle and cost of shipping. My passport expires this month so I won't be able to cross for a while. Thomas is only about a hour and a half from here. Maybe one of the Canadians coming down to Big Tom's M&E can take it home with them and ship from their house. No, if the intercom cables are hooked up backwards they still work, except you develop a feminine voice and your wife's voice gets husky and tells you to shut up... -
You can always convert the bike into a trike!!! Triwing out of Canada makes a kit for the 1st gen and it runs around 6K. Don't give up the dream or the wonderful world of Ventures and Ventureriders!!!
