I bought my '89 with over 100K on the clock for $1900, it wasn't exactly what I expected, but it cleaned up very nicely and had been garage kept. $4K for a 1st gen it better be pretty near mint and always garage kept. If it was left outside in the elements, cut that price in half. The one that Freebird is selling for a friend is a great bike with lots of bling, and I would say that ones worth the $4K mark, give or take.

Is the title clear! Holy hell and I thought I stole my 1st '99 when I bought it 4 years ago for $5200. You have just about hit the lottery with that one I see some Diamond R goodies on there and lots of bling, definitely right place at the right time....good on ya

Nate, Sorry to hear of your situation, many have mentioned, and I will concur, in the end it's for the best. I have gone through it too and it's another life lesson. Be there for the younguns and we'll be here for you, best of luck with getting it over and moving on.

Herb, Yamabond or a good quality high temp RTV will work, no worries about it getting too hot for those products. -

I was going to mention the vmax rearend as it seems you want more seat in the pants acceleration. The Dana will increase the rev limiter to almost 7500 rpms and you can advance the timing curves with it. -
Thats the spirit Lowell! You definitely didn't earn that Ambassador title from being a wallflower

Very sad indeed, the greatest generation is disappearing before our eyes, were too busy to acknowledge it. I have my fathers, father-in-law still with us and still very sharp. He landed on Omaha beach on Dday, I am fortunate enough that he talks with me about it. It fills my soul with tears to hear of what they went through. God Bless all our heros and the greatest generation that have served the USA.

When father wants you to come home, anything is possible. The odds of that happening the way they did are staggering

Sitting on the side of the road in Michigan

Fuel pump a strong possibility, but I have had the gas cap not be venting right and when I tried to open it, it had a vaccume in the tank and I could barely pull it off. If it does it again, try pulling the gas cap off. If you have a big sucking sound, the vent in the cap is going bad. BTW where abouts in Michigan are you staying? -
BJ, The vents get some air circulating behind the windshield which is typically a dead zone. If you actually remove them, you will get 2 blasts of air directly on you and it will circulate a lot of air. The measurements as I recall were 3 1/2" up from the chrome piece at the bottom of the windshield and 5 1/4" over from the side of the shield. Someone with the vents in would have to verify that as I dont have a bike with them in it anyore. The vents do not open inward, you push them out towards the front and when you close them thay are tight against the front of the windshield to keep rain out. Give the responce a day and I'll see if I can dig up some pics of an install.

As far as I know, some of the Ontarians will be in the running.

Now this is just my But folks aren't buying anything unless your giving it away. Folks up north aren't going to be looking for a bike now as there is only a couple more month till the weather really turns to crap. Good thing about Craigslist and here is they are both free

Snaggletooth is on, there should be center punch marks on the case by the shifter if it was done by Yamaha.
