  1. bongobobny, If you let us know when you get to Eastern SD, we can meet up for coffee, or whatever. Here in Madison, we have the world's best DQ!!!!! What route are you planning to take? My number is in my profile. Stay safe, Dave
  2. This video from Eau Claire, WI is on the St. Paul Pioneer Press web site. Watch out for roads buckling! http://www.twincities.com/wisconsin/ci_20998276/video-suv-flying-after-hitting-buckled-road-near Stay safe, Dave
  3. I got my Morgan in six days. I finally got to check my bike over the past weekend. "Bertha" (as my son christened her) was slightly out of sync. Within ten minutes of fiddle about, she was purring like a kitten again. Thanks to the info on this site, I know (about) what I was doing. Such an easy job, I can not understand why dealers want so much money to do this. Dave

Glad it got the old geezer's attention. I have one on my '84 and one on my son's '91 Nighthawk. I love them. They have saved both of us from old people pulling out. Stay safe, Dave
  5. What may help and what was purchased does not show up for me. What is it you guys are talking about? Dave never mind, I just saw it in the first post.
  6. I forgot to mention that the bike I saw had two "Venture Touring Society" stickers on the trunk. I couldn't saw how old they were and the nw owner did not know anything about them. Stay Safe Dave
  7. While at work today, I walked to our mailbox and just as I turned to go bac to the office, I hear a motocycle coming towards me. Well of course I looked up and I saw a very nice looking MK2 blonde go by and turn into the dealer next door. When I got done with work, 15 minutes later, I go to the dealer to get some YamaLube to change the oil in my "84. Well, the owner of the MK2 was still inside. He is the owner of one of the local construction companies. We had a nice chat inside and then went and looked at his bike. He told me he got it form a guy on ebay form Corsica, SD. It is a 1987 Royale and has many of the extra bells and whistles, including but not limited to, venturline trunk rack, venturline drivers backrest and what look to me to be some sort of original driving lights. Of course I told him about the VentureRiders.org and all the help that I have recieved from all the great folks here. He is looking for some fairing parts since someone in the past damaged the right rear corner and tried to fix it with bondo. Hope to see him here, and on the road, soon. Dave
  8. Those will grab people by the eyes! I have some similar for fog/running lights. I like the rearward facing idea, but be careful you don't flash them at law enforcement. At least here is SD it is a traffic offense to have a white light illuminated facing the rear, except for the license plate light. There are some highway patrol officers that are sticklers for this and make lots of stops. Stay Safe. Dave
  9. BJ My now 18 year old son started on a Honda CM250 Custom when he was 16. His smaller frame fit this bike at first. He outgrew it in one season and we found him his 1991 Honda 750 NIghthawk. This is a lot of bike in a small package. I have had people who know Dan tell me they see him ride it very responsibly. If you ride with him a while, he will understand how to ride it within his limits. Sure, he may have to "try it out", but he has a good teacher in you. What ever bike you two decide on, I would bet that the mods will start the first week. Stay safe. Dave
  10. We ordered a Morgn CarbTune online on the 24th of May. Recieved it today, the 31st of May! Whart great service. Dan and I are going to have our own mini-maintenence day on our bikes as soon as the valve cover gaskets come in for my '84. I feel so much more confident in doing repairs and service on my bike because I know that if I get into a jam, the folks here can always come through and bail me out. I have saved a copy of the PDF that rstacy made from Skydoc's step by step for the first gen. I will be printing this and taking it to the garage with me. Dan found a fourm for his Nighthawk, www.nighthawk750.com. That site is almost as friendly as this one. Not nearly as active, but has a lot of good info on it. There is step by step instructions to sync his carb there. With pics! I don't know if we can get at it this weekend, it is Dan's 18th birthday on Sunday. The weather is supposed to be mostly sunny and warm. Maybe I will go for a ride with Dan and work on the bikes later. Take care, Dave
  11. I purchsed the seat that Ed Rassmussen, pc009, had listed on the classifieds. I want to send out a public THANK YOU to Ed. The seat is fantastic. Doreen and i went for a short ride tonight and we both love it. The cloth seating area is very comfortable. It is even a slight bit larger and gived us each a little more room. I was afraid of driving the bike to work with the new seat since the only place to park it on a hard surface is under a very large pine tree. I was afraid of the needles and the sap falling on the cloth seat. It was difficlt enough to get the vinyl clean. But....while we were at a Menard's in Sioux Falls earlier today, I saw a cover designed for a power washer. I pulled it out of the box and it looked about the right size to fit the seat. Got it home and tried it on the bike and it fits!! It will cover from the front of the seat all the way over the trunk and rack. This was about half the price ($13.50) compared to one for a "motorcycle seat rain cover". Again, Thanks Ed, we will be enjoying the seat. Stay Safe, Dave

  13. The State of SD just launched this web site: http://www.southdakotarides.com/ While I just did a quick look around, it seems to have a LOT of information for those who plan to visit up here. It has some interactive maps, web cams, and other stuff on it. If anyone does get up here, let me know if you want to go to the best DQ I have found, right here in Madison!!!! Stay Safe, Dave
  14. Glad you got it running!!! I guess that I will not use the shop you told me about. Dave
  15. If the Sea-Foam treatment does not work, you might want to try Interlakes Sport Center here in Madison, SD. They do good work and one of the owners used to ride a 1st Gen. They have always treated me well. Dave

    OOPS!

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Listen to the medics and it all should work out in the end! Dave
  17. I think he means on the Google search page. Pretty neat deal. Dave
  18. Has anyone ever heard the reasoning behind the fact that as vehicle get smaller, the horns get quieter? Why do Semi-trucks need the horns that will deafen you while motorcycles have a horn that is barely audible? I really like my bad boy horn with the factory horns tied together on the other side. The sound now is just short of obnoxious. Dave
  19. Any pavement on a bright sunny day! Dave
  20. Greg, Glad it will work for you! The cover should not be too difficult to fix up. If nothing else, a sheepskin could be put on it. Dave
  21. Here is one on the Rochester, MN Craig's List asking $25.00 including the brackets! http://rmn.craigslist.org/mcy/2752464249.html I would be after it if I were in the market for one. Dave
  22. Bernie, I have not hunted deer for about six years now. Even after my knee replacement, I just cann't handle trudging through the fields. Besides, my two sons and brother-in-law usually each get one, so we do get some of the meat. Cann't beat a good venison steak! Stay warm, Dave
  23. Doreen and I went to the Royal River Casino in Flandreau, SD on Saturday night. We saw a GREAT concert! On your feet or on your knees, ladies and gentlemen, Blue Oyster Cult! Eric Bloom and Buck Dharma from the origianal line up were still rocking out. They were joined by Rudy Sarzo on bass (formerly with Ozzy, Ronnie James Dio, Quiet Riot and White Snake), Richie Castellano, from Staten Island, NY, on guitar and keyboards, and Jules Radino, from Long Island, NY, on drums. It was a great time. they sounded as good as I remember the albums from back in the day. These guys were really on fire! :225: To top it all off, prior to the show, I put a $20.00 in a penny electronic slot machine and after the 20 free spins I won, I walked away with over $100 in profit! I did just what the Steve Miller Band suggested, take the money and run! The casino in Flandreau is booking some bigger name acts in an attemp to compete with a brand new casino in Larchwood, Ia. Both have had some good shows recently. We are looking forward to more. Hope everyone else had a good weekend as well! Dave
  24. Happy 236th Birthday Marines! Semper Fi Dave
