Hearing click...but not starting. Help!
Steve S replied to Semi-retired's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Make sure your emerngcey kill switch is turned ON ... Not speaking from experience of course. :bang head: -
It is very unliklely that the threads are stripped unless someone has been wild with the wrenching, so please don't assume anything. Before you go buy any extra parts and tools, simply check to see if the plug is loose. Very gently tighten it and make sure it seats firmly. If it does, drain the oil and inspect the threads on the plug. If they are OK, replace the brass or alunium crush washer with a new one. The new washer will be soft when it seats so you may have to tighten the plug just a little extra. Fill her up with oil and check for leaks. if you dont have any leaks just "RIDE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT"... Good luck

Swing arm bearings?
Steve S replied to yamahamer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
With 58K on the Black Beast, I haven't packed them yet, but I have given it some thought. My riding buddy has a 99 Roadstar with 90K on it. We are going to do a frame rebuild this winter so we will pull the swingarm and repack or replace, which ever it needs. Depending on how bad that is, I may or may not do mine. It's a shame that no one puts a grease fitting on that bearing. Sure would make maintance a lot easier. -
What is everyones favorite chrome accessories?

Eck. I just bet that you feel awful ashamed having to ride a bike that is not dressed out properly... :crying: :crying: :rotf: :rotf: :stirthepot: -
What is everyones favorite chrome accessories?
Steve S replied to roadwarrior's topic in Bike Accessories
All of them. I like anything that helps dress the bike up. -
Dang, The title said the sidecar was "attached with pictures". I wanted to see how the Muffin Man got it to hang on just using pictures. It looks like he used bolts... :confused24: :rotf: :stirthepot:

Does anybody remember.....
Steve S replied to Iowawegian's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have used the Rivco, http://www.rivcoproducts.com, light bar. It works great and looks nice. Custom Dynamics, http://www.customdynamics.com, also has one that looks great under the Venture trunk. -
When I took the Black Beast for a test ride I waited while the service manager put the battery on and fired it up. My wife and I climbed on and we rode her out of the shop for the shakedown run. The old gal is now 4 1/2 years old, has 58,000 miles on her and is still going strong. I hope to get another 60K without any trouble.

Good call Don. I thing all politicians should be banned from life. But that's just my opinion....

I passed one heading east on I-24 near Hopkinsvile Ky. It was a Midnight with a NC plate on it. Unfortunately I was in my wife's Sebring at the time.

Front Wheel Bearings
Steve S replied to SaltyDawg's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Salty Dawg. I checked the repair manual and it looks like they front wheel bearing are sealed ball bearings. They shouldn't need any maintance, just check them every tire change to make sure one isn't going bad. -
I put the Flanders bars on my bike. I love them. The set back is just right for me and they were a snap to put on. I don't have any experience with the RSTD bars, but I dont think they will fit the RSV due to the width. Someone will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong,, and I usally am. Just ask the Warden:stirthepot:

Well I found out tonight why Yamaha put a "soft" clutch in the Venture. My son and I went out on a day trip today and as we were getting close to home we stopped at a traffic light. It was late with no traffic around and we were in separate lanes. He gets froggy and starts revving the engine on the Nomad and hollers over at me "what ya got old man"? Wellll, I have never been one to let and insult pass me by, especially from a mere youngster, (he's 24), so I got the Venture rolling, pulled the clutch in and hit the throttle a couple of times, then hammered on it... BIG MISTAKE!!! :bang head: This was my first real hard hole shot since I did the clutch up-grade and let me tell you... IT WORKS. That clutch grabbed hold, the rear tire went to spinning and smoking, the rear end went sideways, my butt puckered up and I just held on til I was WAYYYYY out in front. Talk about a rush... Don't wanna do it again, but oh, what a feeling. Before when I tried this the clutch would slip, not much, but just enough that it wouldn't let the rear tire break traction. I think I am going to like this set-up much better.

Rear wheel needle bearing
Steve S replied to Gearhead's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If the needles look to be in good shape, just use a clean, lint free cloth to wipe any trash from the surface of the bearings. If you have a needle attachment for your grease gun you can use it to inject grease into the bearing. If not, just put some grease on your finger and push it into the bearings. You will be surprised at how little grease these bearings actually require. Good luck. -
90º Angle adapter for LED brake & position light
Steve S replied to calperin's topic in Watering Hole
Calperin Super Bright LEDs, www.superbrightleds.com , makes a 90 degree replacement LED in both 1156 and 1157. They also have electronic flashers that will run the LEDs. I'm kicking around getting a set to try em out. I know the turn signal uses a 2 prong flasher, but I'm not sure about the emergency flasher. I'll have to pull it to see. Good luck with your search. -
What he said...

I hope it spreads to all 50 states. There are just too many people on the streets now to play that way.

I like the idea of the Dyna balancing beads. Has anyone actually used these?? I have used the powder in the front tires of a semi that I used to drive. It seemed to work real well.

Self-moderation??? I thought self-moderation meant that you quit drinking when you ran out of beer??? :stirthepot: :stirthepot: Squidley, You know we do this cause we love ya man. Just imagine what we would be like if we didn't like you... :whistling: :innocent: ... and why would anyone want to bash an outdated, antiquated, over-the-hill, old fashioned ride like a First Gen??????????? :confused24:

I too have a Clearview shield with a vent. Due to the Warden and I both being tall, I bought the tallest shield they had and I absolutely love it. It is a great improvement over the stock shield. It takes a while to get one due to the backlog, but the wait is worth it. Some people have bought blems with good luck. They say that you really have to look to see the blemish and you save some money and a lot of time as they usually ship a blem right away. Heck, I've put about 7k miles on my shield since spring and I'm sure it has a blemish on it now. Makes me wish I had bought a blem. :bang head:

The jack that I have for several years that came from Sam's Club. It has a lift adapter that has 4 V shaped brackets on adjustable arms. It worked out pretty good, but was a pain to get set up under the bike. Last year I bought a lift adapter, with legs, from Carbon 1. I cannot give this piece of equipment enough praise. With the Carbon 1 lift adapter, any inexpensive jack will work fine. My brother had a jack that was purchased from Lowes for $89. It worked real good for his Harley. We still have it around for the odd things like getting the way or crowding up the garage. Someday Son will move away and take it with his bike.

I am living proof that this will not work in KY . They will not take a check for the ticket. Only cash or a money order for the exact amount. :bang head:
