  1. Self-moderation??? I thought self-moderation meant that you quit drinking when you ran out of beer??? :stirthepot: :stirthepot: Squidley, You know we do this cause we love ya man. Just imagine what we would be like if we didn't like you... :whistling: :innocent: ... and why would anyone want to bash an outdated, antiquated, over-the-hill, old fashioned ride like a First Gen??????????? :confused24:
  2. I too have a Clearview shield with a vent. Due to the Warden and I both being tall, I bought the tallest shield they had and I absolutely love it. It is a great improvement over the stock shield. It takes a while to get one due to the backlog, but the wait is worth it. Some people have bought blems with good luck. They say that you really have to look to see the blemish and you save some money and a lot of time as they usually ship a blem right away. Heck, I've put about 7k miles on my shield since spring and I'm sure it has a blemish on it now. Makes me wish I had bought a blem. :bang head:
  3. The jack that I have for several years that came from Sam's Club. It has a lift adapter that has 4 V shaped brackets on adjustable arms. It worked out pretty good, but was a pain to get set up under the bike. Last year I bought a lift adapter, with legs, from Carbon 1. I cannot give this piece of equipment enough praise. With the Carbon 1 lift adapter, any inexpensive jack will work fine. My brother had a jack that was purchased from Lowes for $89. It worked real good for his Harley. We still have it around for the odd things like getting the way or crowding up the garage. Someday Son will move away and take it with his bike.
  4. I am living proof that this will not work in KY . They will not take a check for the ticket. Only cash or a money order for the exact amount. :bang head:
  5. I have hauled an 02 Road King and a 06 Venture in an extended cab Chevy 1500 with a short bed. I did have to put a piece of 3/4 plywood in front of the front tire of the Venture to keep the fender from hitting the front of the bed though. Both bikes had the rear tire sitting on the very edge of the bed. I strapped the front down real good then the rear down just enough to keep it from going side to side. My brother or I never had a bit of trouble. If it does sit on the tailgate just do like PJ said and put a plank under it.
  6. I so graciously asked the Warden her opinion about this and her one word resonse was........ :whistling: :dancefool: CHIPPINDALES :dancefool:
  7. Here is the thread to the Kuryakyn home page. http://www.kuryakyn.com/index.asp They have several that are suitable for the Venture. I use the wide foot peg with a solid mount and others have used the adjustable mounts. It's just whatever you think will suit you best.
  8. That's OK. The Warden ALWAYS packs her pole, handcuffs, silk whip... OOPPPPSSSSS better watch out. SOME people will try to peek in a man's tent. :rotf: :rotf:
  9. SERIOUS???? Youhavegottobekidding??? Did he forget where he posted this???
  10. Seaking I have pulled two wheel trailers several thousand miles with good luck. If I were going to purchase a trailer I would have to get a 2 wheel. There are some very nice light ones out there that will do what you want. For me, I don't like the idea of having a one wheeled anything. I am like you, how do you hold the dang thing up when you unhook it??? I've passed em on the road, but never seen one unhooked. I guess it is one of the greater mysteries of life that may never be answered. Since I have never pulled a single wheel, these are just my personal thoughts... Good Luck
  11. Dang Margaret, you are a hard woman... :rotf:
  12. Any chance that Hooters would send a group of "delegates"???
  13. Sigh,,, such is my life... :crying:
  14. Now WHO'S easy??? Pics AND phone numbers please...
  15. Mechanic. There has been a lot of new growth in the area so we found that there was plenty of fuel depots out in that area. The only time I used reserve was while I was on the interstate and didn't want to stop. Of course I didn't push the issue and never let it get below 1/4 tank. That being said, have Sleephawk put the rack on for an ice chest. You will love being able to grab a drink whenever you stop. I did that and it was a very nice accessory to the bike. We both welcomed a good cold bottle of water every time we stopped. Good luck and..
  16. Congrats Mechanic. You will love the trip out west. The Warden and I just got back from out there and loved every minute of it. If there is one thing I would suggest for you to do is to go to both the South Rim AND the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. They are both beautiful, but the view from the North Rim is much more Majestic. You can't do both in one day due to the distance, but it is well worth the time. And you can stop in Marble Canyon on the way to the North Rim. That in itself is worth the trip. On the way from the South to the North rim, we spent the night in Page Az. It is a beautiful little town on Lake Powell, right by Glen Canyon dam If I tried to tell you all the sights to see, you wouldn't have time to explore for yourself. Just be prepared to live in awe the whole time you are out there.
  17. If you get up to the U.P. the National Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point is a must see. They have the bell from the Edmund Fitzgerald on display there. I made it in spring 05 and it was well worth the trip.
  18. I think royalstarjac said it best. The "Harley" crowd seem to be more into riding to a meet or tavern, then sittting around bragging about how bad thier bike is. Just a few minutes ago I spoke to a man that has a Heritage Softail Springer. He says that he can only stand about 150 miles a day on it. He wants a Ulta so he and the wife can make some 400 mile days. When I mentioned that the wife and I just did 4500 in 10 days, he said "there is no way that I would ever ride that far". So I am perfectly happy touring the country riding on my "Harley wannabe" and being a "biker wannabe".
  19. ...and the sign-up list is where???
  20. a1bummer. Just a thought here, but would a small trailer work for you or do you want to add to the stability of the bike as well? Inquiring minds must know.
  21. Donald. I noticed the same thing as you. My first two sets of rear pads went real quick so when I replaced the front pads, I switched to EBC-HH pads. I am getting better braking power plus a lot more wear out of them. However, my next set for the rear will not be HH. They have too much bite. That was the cause of my accident in November 07. I was scuffing off some speed with my rear brake when I hit a bump and locked the rear wheel up. Now the only time I use the rears are to hold the driveshaft tight while I keep the RPMs up in a tight curve. The rest of the time it's front wheel or engine braking. Hope this answers your questions.
  22. Correction Squidley, you HAD one. I "stole" it and have been using it quite frequently here lately. And you are right of course. It is a great addition to the jack that I also pinched. It holds the bike steady while you lift it and even steadier after you put the legs on it and take the jack out from under it. If one is not in the budget at this time, do as I did and catch someone not home and "borrow" thiers. LOL:dancefool: Seriously, if you do not have a jack or lift adapter, the boards will work OK. Just be cautious because they are not quite as steady. Good Luck
  23. Roadwarrior. The headlight bulb for the Venture is an automotive style H-4 bulb that can be picked up at most any auto parts store or Wal Mart. I bought my last one at an Auto Zone store when mine went out on a trip. I looked over all of the choices and picked the highest wattage that was offered at the store. However, my next one will be one of the Blue Spot bulbs( I think that is what they are called). I believe those give just a little more illumination. I haven't purchased any yet, but I sure like the look of the Genisis LEDs that is offered by Custom Dynamics, www.customdynamics.com. I am going to try them with electronic flashers to reduce the amp draw though. The auto cancel isn't a big deal with me. I have ridden so many bikes that didn't have it, that I usually tap the turn signal switch every time I turn anyway. Good luck with your picks.
  24. Unlike bulbs that produce a white light and use a filter to give out color, LEDs produce the color of light that you see. You can use them either behind a clear lens or a colored lens of the same color you want to see. (amber lens with amber LED, ect.) Because the LED produce thier own color, the same color filter, or lens, will not block any of the color or make it dimmer... If you replace the turn signal bulbs with LEDs, you will need to change to electronic flashers or use load equalizers. Check the Tech section for this info. Good Luck.
