Went to my sisters wedding. Rode the Venture over. It was a Harley wedding. They had a nice row of Harleys there. They would not let me park my Venture anywhere near them. After the vows the riders all went to their bikes to fire them up and rev them up. After much cranking and swearing only one started. I walked over to the Venture, pressed the button and it fired right up. No one said anything. I left.

At Canadian tire I got a cigarette lighter receptical which has alligator clips attached so you can attach it directly to the battery. Comes in handy for machines that don't have cigarette lighters. It cost $5.00.

If you have never driven a sports car take it and get it running then find a winding road. If you have it you can always sell it later. I have had.....'56 MGA leather and brass fittings '57 MGA vinyl and stainless steel '59 MGA '65 TR4A '65 Healy 3000 MK II with BJ8 engine. I could no longer afford sports cars so I got into bikes instead as the closest thing to the sport car. I still can't afford the sports cars.

Just turned 65. Went parasailing in Cuba a couple years ago and up in an ultralight in Mexico last month. When I get older I might have to trade down to something lighter....like a VMAX.

How This Big Old Top-heavy Bike May Have SAVED My LIFE
Sailor replied to Aimhigh's topic in Watering Hole
It is important to get checked regularly. In a routine blood test my Dr. noticed elevated PSA. He ordered more tests and I had prostate cancer. It turns out I had an extremely aggressive type and they told me I would be dead in 24 months without treatment. So far the treatments seem to have worked. I am well past the 24 months now. -
How much fuel is really left in my tank?
Sailor replied to raceman62race's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Do not trust the instruments. My bike runs out of gas when it shows about 1/4 full. I switch to reserve and it still shows I have lots of gas. After I fill up and get going again the instruments show empty for a couple miles then full. -
I have an 02 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 4.7 V8 and 5 sp standard trans. No problems at all. We recently drove from Saltspring to Thane Wyoming with another couple and got 22 mpg. It has lots of torque and lots of power (310 hp). It is very comfortable and I am happy with it.

Night riding on the interstates -- what's the big deal?
Sailor replied to Dave77459's topic in Watering Hole
Just had cataract surgery on both eyes, what a difference! All those cars that were driving around with really dim lights now have really bright ones, on the down side the deer population seems to have tripled. I love riding at night. You have to watch for Bambi and drunks but it is great. -
I could not find any site to register complaints so I sent it to the Board of Directors.

"The law is an ass" I don't know if you are familiar with the expression but it comes from long ago England, Edinburgh, I believe. At that time wealth was displayed by the number of horses you had pulling your carriage. The wealthiest had 6 horses. The merchant class began to rise and became wealthy but they were not upper class. A law was passed stating that only a peer of the realm could have 6 horses pulling his carriage. A wealthy merchant showed his disdain by having his pulled by 5 horses and an ass. There was nothing they could do about it. The law was an ass.

Up here in Canada we are real tough on drivers. In today's (Feb 28) Victoria Times Colonist newspaper. Jodee Hanson 42, was found not guilty of dangerous driving causing the death of a motorcyclist and not guilty of dangerous driving causing bodily harm to the motorcycle passenger, who required surgery and missed several weeks of work. Instead she pled guilty to driving without due care and attention. She got a $1500 fine and a four month suspension of her driving license. All she did was tailgate a minivan, pull out across a double solid line, cut a corner and kill a motorcyclist. The kicker is that she has had 18 driving convictions including 10 moving violations and 7 speeding tickets. One of the violations occurred after the accident. Four months before the accident she was pulled over for speeding in a school zone. She has also been in 9 accidents. She is the community relations representative for McDonald's restaurants in Victoria. She turned on the tears in court and said the accident had a major impact on her..... awww....poor baby!

Some time ago I was going through town when a lady in, of all things, a pink cadillac pulled out of a side road. We were so close I slammed my boot into the drivers door to help keep the bike away from the car. Fortunately it was a low speed incident. She didn't even blink. A few minutes later I pulled into a parking lot and she pulled in right beside me. I waited for her to say something and when she didn't I remarked that it had certainly been a close call. She did not know what I was talking about, I explained it to her. Her answer..."Well why don't you look where you are going". Recently I was heading out of town. I saw a woman in a mini van sitting at a stop sign. (Warning! Woman! Mini Van!) I kept my eye on her as I approached. I could see she was watching me. When I got right up to her she pulled out and stopped, completely blocking the lane! Then she laughed. Fortunately I was ready for the panic stop. She took off but it did not take long to catch up to her. I doubt she will be pulling that stunt again. I know I should not have chased her but it was the laugh that did it.

I drive with my high beam on in daylight hours and low beam at night. I hate the idiots ( in cars) who have those bright driving lights on at night, I can't see a damn thing. The same with those high intensity blue/white lights, they are absolutely blinding. The most effective thing I have found is "fish scale". It is reflective tape which changes colour depending on the light angle. I have seen many people in cars pointing at me as I rode behind them, approached, or passed. I had it on my helmet so it changed color with every movement or reflected light. It worked day or night. No lights involved, just the constantly changing reflections. They have red/blue, silver/blue and colors in between. I found it in a sporting goods store in the fishing section. I think it is so noticeable because it is not like anything else out there.

You are going to make it, and have a cute nurse as well. I have always made it but never got the cute nurse, I think they are a myth.

Photographs, receipts for any work or custom accessories and affidavits from those who know the bike. Ads for similar bikes in similar condition. Good luck.

Usualy good music at the Yale. My birthday is the 19th so we are having a Valentines day/birthday party at the Legion on the 14th. Got music and food lined up. Should be a good crowd. No plans for Sunday...or Monday.

Just back from Cabo. My very stubborn wife would not listen to me when I tried to tell her walking around in that heat in the hottest part of the day with no hat was not a good idea. On the third day she got heat exhaustion. Nausea, dizziness, drowsiness. It is not just riding but even when you stop and just walk around you can become dehydrated.

It warmed up today...and then it snowed money.
Sailor replied to Snaggletooth's topic in Watering Hole
I used to work at Vancouver airport. A lot of money would be shipped back and forth for the banks, etc. Things were very loose and sometimes a bag would break. The brass would immediately panic. We would always gather up the money and slip in a few extra coins or a couple bills just to f... with their minds. -
Bin there done that. My sons were 4 and 8 when she took off with her latest boyfriend. She didn't want the kids so left them with me. Her lawyer told her she couldn't get the house and property without taking the kids too so she came back and grabbed them. The divorce took three years but I got joint custody which is hard to do. My advice...make sure you get visitation rights, never say anything bad about your ex in front of the kids. I found out that she was taking my name off the presents I gave them at Christmas and birthdays and putting her boyfriends name on them. When the kids asked why I never gave them presents I simply told them what I had given them and let them draw their own conclusions. I found out from the kids she was calling me names and telling them I was not their father and I hated them. I kept quiet and let them draw their own conclusions. She drove them away from her with her bitterness. I was informed later that the kids really respected me for not saying anything and not responding to her attacks. It did not take too long for the kids to figure things out. I now have a better relationship with them than she does. All I did was treat them with respect and keep my mouth shut. Bottom line....kids are smarter than you think.
