  1. Then let me be the first to say something good about them. I have a Diehard in my '83 and have never had any trouble at all. I don't remember what brand was in it last, but I had to check it pretty regular to keep the water level up. Never had to add any in the diehard and it cranks the bike better that previous battery. I'm very satisfied with it and will get another when this one goes tits up. The sensor hole on the Diehard was too small, but I just reamed it out with a drill and right sized bit.
  2. "Well, another thought is, if we are running out of oil, let's use up their oil first." RandyA Hey, I like the way this guy thinks!!!!!
  3. Why not just pour a little in through the carbs?
  4. Sears also sells a Diehard battery that fits the 1st gen and has the sensor hole. That's what I use. Only snag was that the hole was a little too small, but was easy to enlarge with drill and right size bit.
  5. I take my wheels to Steve's Tire Service in Ozark. $10.00 per tire to change. extra $5.00 if you want them balanced.
  6. What has always worked for me in a case where the bolt head is ruined is to use a stud remover. Just grind what's left of the head off and get the bracket out of the way and then use the stud remover with a 1/2 inch ratchet on the shaft of the bolt. On very rare occasions over the years i have had to heat the bolt cherry red and then douse with cold water. This will usually break loose even the most stubborn bolt. I don't know if Craftsman carries the stud remover, but I got mine from Snap On. One other thing to keep in mind is that on a couple of bolts have snapped off even with the surface, but that was usually when it was in aluminum.
  7. Heh Heh.......We've gotten pretty spoiled ain't we. Remember back in the 50s and 60s when we had to fill out an order for Sears or Wards and mail it off to Chicago? Had to watch that dang mailbox for 4 to 6 weeks to get the order, provided it wasn't back ordered for a couple of more weeks. Seemed like by the time the mailman brought it, we dang near forgot what we ordered. Now days I order something on the net and expect it in 3 to 5 days. Some things about the "good old days" I'd just as soon not deal with now...........
  8. I don't know if I've posted this before, or not. I'm at the age that I have a tendency to repeat myself. Anyway, my closest call ever happened in Germany about '72 or '73. I was going south on the main highway between Kaiserslautern and Pirmasens. (hwy 10, I think. Lutz?) I was riding close to the centerline and I saw a bus coming toward me in the other lane. Just before the bus reach even with me, a tractor-trailer rig swung out from behind it to pass. Now this truck must have been flying and gaining fast behind the bus because as soon as he swung out, he was along side the bus. I could tell that I could not clear to the right of the truck, nor to the left of the bus. We were all just too close and closing too fast. My only option was to split the two and hope for the best. I wasn't sure if I had enough room between them, but I really had no other hope. As i shot between them, I instinctively drew in my shoulders, even though I knew it would be the handle bars that would hit. I can still remember them flashing past me on either side with only a few inches to spare. There were chains swinging under the truck and in the bus I got a glimpse of a passenger staring at me with huge eyes and mouth open. Needless to say, I made it through, but for the next hour or so I looked like I had tourettes syndrome. I was shaking and stammering when I got home. Now I've had some other real close calls, but that one was the absolute closest. And to this day I tend to favor the outside of the lane so that I can at least have the option to go ditch surfing.............
  9. "i had even managed to shoot 4 squares for the cats, while feeding the bulls yesterday." Say what?????????
  10. "but the mud is so deep no way to get it on the center stand" A sheet of plywood, maybe. What kinder exam you taken to be recertified fer what?
  11. Gosh Yammer......you're a real connie-sewer. I prefer Post Red Muscadine myself. I don't collect wine, but I do collect the bottles. In fact, I have a whole pile of them out behind the shed. They make good fill for low spots.............
  12. Yeah, that's about how long they last me, too. I use the battery tender junior and about every 2 or 3 years have to get another. But I have to say that when I go out and find that it has pooped out, it never ran my battery down.
  13. How about "Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road".................
  14. Gee......I didn't even know there was anywhere here in Arkansas that you were allowed to go 80mph..........
  15. Well......You know, I knew a guy many years ago that would buy a used car. Now used cars, just by their nature will likely have a few things wrong with them. So, he would have a series of problems, fix them, and by the time he had all the bugs out, he was mad at the car and sell it and buy another. Of course that car would have some problems, too, and he would repeat this same thing over and over. It got to where folks were just waiting to buy his old cars, 'cause then he had all the bugs out and they had no problems with them at all. Any time I buy a used vehicle, be it car or bike, I just assume it will have some problems that have to be worked out. After every thing is fixed, it usually ends up lasting a long time without any problems. What I'm saying is, you got all the problems fixed with your last bike and then got rid of it. It would probably have been fine after you got all the problems ironed out. I would have just explained to the wife that it was fixed now and kept it. Of course I would have rode it solo for awhile just to make sure. Well now you have bought this wing and it has a problem and maybe a few you haven't found yet. But if you fix it, just don't go holding a grudge against it and sell it, too. Anything mechanical can break. A Wing is a fine machine and will serve you well once the bugs is out of it. Just remember that a lot of folks sell something 'cause something is wrong with it that they don't want to fix. So good....you got it for a reasonable price and can afford to fix the things the previous owner might not have wanted to. Don't give up on it. Fix it and ride it. That's just one little old hillbillies opinion..............
  16. That's actually less than I would have guessed............
  17. I feel your pain Charlie. I'm going through the very same thing here. Cold, wintery days that hover around the high 60s and low 70s and bone chilling nights that sometimes get down into the 50s.......Oh, for the return of warm weather again and get me out of this iron grip of winter................heh heh
  18. Said on the news last night that there has been a huge outbreak over in Oklahoma, with some schools just shutting down from lack of attendance. Been going around here, too, but not epidemic. We have had our grandson for almost a week now because we don't dare take him back to town until his other grandma (who usually keeps him during the week while mom and dad work) gets over her flu. He was supposed to come out for a weekend and got stranded. I guess that's some help to live out in the sticks as long as you don't go to town very often.......
  19. Watch for snakes............
  20. Heh, heh, heh.............
  21. Yeah, still cold here, too. A high of only 68 degrees expected today, and last night riding home from church i felt like i was in the arctic. Even had to wear my leather jacket and gloves. Man, is this deep freeze ever going to end?
  22. "Besides, it costs money to list parts on eBay whether they sell or not, and I'm remiss to go even more in the hole on this deal." Wouldn't cost anything to list the parts here the classified section........
  23. "but it has nothing to do with scoots....just one of those 'personal' choices some folks tend to make." OOOOOHHHHH!!!! OK, now I get it. Yep, you're absolutely right. Sure don't want to bring THAT up again. But me too....I would avoid that and other states for the same reason.
  24. Does get the old curiosity up don't it? But if I was to guess.....and this is pure speculation, so I may be dead wrong, but I would guess that maybe Illinois don't allow modulating headlights?????
  25. Hmmm, where could we go with this comment I don't know, but I've seen a photo of him....."pretty" wasn't a word that came to mind...
