  1. I passed this along to some good friends (who all ride) out in Colorado, including an Aurora CO detective and a Deputy Sheriff. Prayers and good thoughts go out for him and his family.
  2. I wish I would have known about this stuff when I was married - I would have served a glassful to the ex at every meal! Interesting info, thanks to everyone for the continued posts!
  3. This morning's radar in NE Ohio - clear. Chance of rain 0% until 6pm when it is only 10%. Go out this morning for Sunday paper - need my windshield wipers. Even a good forecast means nothing these days!
  4. Like everyone else, just at a total loss...many prayers for the family. May he rest in peace with God.
  5. Prayers and good thoughts for James and his family. James is the person who found my RSV for sale and alerted me to it, so he'll always be a special person to me even though we never met. Get healed soon and let us know when you're up and around!!!
  6. It's like most things - personal preference. Just like how some slow down waaaaayyyyy before a red light and hold up everyone behind them just so they don't have to use the brakes or put their foot down; just like some people like to start threads about things they don't like to bring out all the haters and complainers, because more people will always complain than not because it's human nature; it's all personal preference. I say who cares, doesn't affect me how others ride as long as it's safe. I see it as a petty difference in riding styles.
  7. Mt. Washington can be beautiful, especially if you catch a day with a view. We were told that most days are too cloudy at the top to provide any type of view, but got lucky and hit it on a clear day. Here's a few pics from my trip back in 2006. We were on the mountain August 12th, be sure to see the temps that day...and the wind speeds...keeping the bike steady up there can be a challenge. We stayed at the Town & Country Inn up in Shelburne on Rt. 2, very bike friendly as we were holding our Virago Owner's Club reunion there. If I remember they also had reserved parking spaces for each room, so your bike was always right outside. ps. Road trips can be exciting - don't forget the passport! New laws in effect this year.
  8. It sure would reduce the number of 'salutes' I give people every day!
  9. I've run nothing but regular (87 in OH) in mine and have had no performance issues. When I first bought my 1100 Virago I ran 89 (mid-grade) and had a lot of 'popping' during decel, and since I switched to regular it's been great. For me, running the recommended grade works. I'm a heavy load by myself, but even with my packed bags I average well over 40 MPG on my trips with the RSV running regular fuel.
  10. Looks like a fun rally. With Johnstown last weekend and Gettysburg next, I'll have to pass but will pencil in for next year. Have fun and be safe out there! Wishing blue skies...
  11. Hey Don, how many months are you going to let him pay that before you tell him the truth?
  12. Yeah, I saw a few Ventures but I was on my Virago. Since my Venture is up for sale I'm not taking it on these rides. Gettysburg Bike Week doesn't do much for me but we have a group that meets there and takes a nice few-hours ride up through the Tuscarora Mountain twisties. Mostly Viragos on that ride, we have had as many as 14 out of 18 riders on Viragos. And of course, no, the Virago did NOT go into the trailer! LOL
  13. More pics from Ebensburg and Scooter's in Johnstown.
  14. Yes, always a good time. We camped in the Cambria County Fairgrounds up in Ebensburg and went to their 'Wheels and Wings' downtown on Thursday night. Made all our usual stops in Johnstown, including a ride on the incline for the newcomers, and did some nice cruising north into Clearfield and surrounding areas. My 7th year in a row, it's inked in on my calendar every year.
  15. I've stayed in Robbinsville a couple of times. Beware - the stretch of Rt. 129 between there and Deals Gap is heavily patrolled for speeders, so if you are inclined to twist the throttle be careful. While you are there you should ty to make time to ride the Cherohala Skyway, it's worth the time. http://www.cherohala.com/ For those who like a drink, it's a dry county so come prepared. We were able to buy beer at the Tapoco Lodge, one of only a few places permitted to sell. Nothing like a cold one after a nice ride. http://www.tapocolodge.com/ Any stretch of the BRP you ride will leave you wanting more, so ride what you can and enjoy!
  16. Couldn't agree more. Could be moving and getting the bikes to their new home, or just bought them and bringing them home from the dealer. OR...maybe he was on his way to the Yamaha dealer to trade them in for 2 new Yammies!! In any case, lots of reasons for ANY biker to be trailering.
  17. Exactly true! Yamaha is extremely tight-lipped about their new releases, even to the point that the reps are only guessing. "They say", "I heard" and all the other speculation is usually just that, being passed along enough until it is assumed as fact. But c'mon, how many cassette decks can they still have left??!!
  18. That pretty much sums it up for me. I have a dealership within walking distance that I refuse to even buy a quart of oil from (bad experience). I drive 28 miles to one I trust, who still works on the older bikes, and knows what he's doing. For easy jobs like tire changes, I was lucky enough to find a small independent working in the back of a little speed shop who does excellent work. Inspects, greases, tightens, things like that on every visit. Oddly enough, he and the dealer 28 miles away refer each other to customers. Like most are saying, it seems to be a real crap shoot with Yamaha these days.
  19. Sorry I can't comment on the fuel issue, but wanted to give kudos on a great trip! Really caught my eye because the first long trip I took (a week) after I bought my RSV was to Gorham NH where we had our Virago Owner's Club reunion in '06. I think it was at the Town & Country Motor Inn. Great area!
  20. We always camp at Lorain Park, but heard they are not hosting campers this year. Frequent stops at Scooter's and By George's in town by the stadium. Lots of cruising between town and Ligonier, Ohiopyle, and anywhere else with 2 lanes and few lights. Won't be on the Venture, taking the Virago and easy to spot from behind...
  21. Yes, you are one lucky owner, no doubt! Must be something about production cuts with Yamaha, because my local dealer said that this year Yamaha cut back on the RSV's and he only got one and it already sold. According to him, Yamaha just went down their list of dealers and started picking and choosing which ones were going to get less than their usual allotment this year.
  22. Just my 2 cents - posting is not where the value is, the real value of this site is in the reading. Access to read all of the threads pretty much eliminates the need to join for a majority of folks. Once all the active members are paid, the plethora of helpful information continues to be posted, and the casual visitors continue to have access to all the knowledge. Fine lines, I know, but just my thoughts.
  23. Yeah, I almost forgot you're a guy who gets things done, and fast! Ok, just thought I'd offer in case you were going to wait a day.
  24. Don, if you want some company for half the trip I'll go along. I'm at Rt. 8 in Stow, can meet you somewhere along the way. I'm closer, but too mechanically declined to go up and make decisions for someone else! Email me if you want to make a plan. Gary
  25. Yeah, but I've noticed at the rallies and reunions that I go to it seems that the women gravitate to that nice clean look of a white and chrome bike. Good enough for me!
