  1. Nice place - they were the host hotel for the Virago Owners Club reunion in 2006 so yes, very motorcycle friendly! The entire staff treated us very well.
  2. Here's a post from last year with a few pics... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=112821#post112821 Rt 3 from Watertown to Saranac Lake is a nice ride, then 86 to Whiteface Mtn for a view of Lake Placid is a must. I've stayed at both the Comfort Inn and the Ramada in Rutland VT, nobody had issues with bikes. In fact, I can't really think of anywhere I've been that has been 'unfriendly'. Crossing Lake Champlain on the ferry is an experience too. I've crossed at Essex and Champlain Park (Plattsburg). Rt 100 north from Rutland is an excellent ride (you could spend days just riding up and down Vermont!). Rt 112 across the White Mtns in NH is nice, and north to Mt. Washington on 16 too, but I'm sure there are some folks up that way who can give you the best routes. I was on Mt. Washington on Aug 12 and it was 17F with the wind chill. I left the bike down below and took the tour bus up. Sounds like a nice trip for you.
  3. Here's a quote from the web site: "Ride Like a Pro V is a replacement for my first four videos. It includes all the information from Ride Like a Pro I, II, III, IV plus much more. In other words, there is no need to have viewed the first four DVDs to understand the techniques I'll show you in Ride Like a Pro V." http://www.ridelikeapro.com/ They have other offerings too. It's just a matter of what you are looking for.
  4. As an alternative and to save even more money, one could just SLOW DOWN and drive the speed limit and not run red lights. I've never had to pay anything for not breaking the law...
  5. "...cannot be held liable for consequences..." doesn't sound like a warranty violation, but more like an injury or accident disclaimer. Kind of like recommending a helmet, or warning against unsafe speeds. I agree with the integrity aspect completely, but I think taking it in for service is fine as long as one is truthful in response to questions such as 'Have you been pulling a trailer?".
  6. Sometimes you just have to wait it out...
  7. Addictive is an understatement! I've been trying this one off and on for a couple of weeks! Was stuck at levels 6 & 8 for a while, but made it to level 11. I think the IQ was only 113 though. Love it!
  8. His butthole - O His butthole in jail - O
  9. There was quite a bit of info in this thread also. Thanks for the reminder! http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=18434
  10. The Elite II's are getting harder to find because Dunlop is phasing into the E-3 line. Here's the response I got this month from them when I tried to get an update for the sizes on the Virago. It's contrary to what they told me back in Sept & Oct when I asked the same questions. "Unfortunately, all blackwall sizes of the 491 Elite II have been discontinued as of Dec. 1, 2007. We're very sorry. Remaining sizes include MT90-16, MR90-18 and MM90-19 fronts, and MV85-15, MT90-16 and MU90-16 rears. MM90-19 and MV85-15 are both currently on back-order." I love those Elite II's, but now for the Virago I may give the Avons a try. I went with the narrow front on the E-3's for the Venture, and I'm very happy with the performance.
  11. Many good tires out there, and you would probably be happy with any one of the most popular tires once you put them on. I went from the Elite II's to the E-3's last year and love them. It's like anything else, whatever you have decided upon will be the best. Kind of like paint and favorite colors...(white's the fastest).
  12. A yea or nay poll would have been, and still is, a much better idea. And make it anonymous. One would hope that those smart enough to get proper permits and training to carry would also be smart enough not to broadcast it with a full personal profile filled out... Of course, that's just my opinion. Aussies seem to have a 'wild west' perception of the USA...I had a friend in Adelaide who thought we all ran around with pistols waving them at each other...

  14. Don, I saw two motorcycles cruising in the Akron area yesterday afternoon...brrrrrr...of course, it was only down to about 15F by then without the wind chill...took over 15 minutes this morning just to get all the frost off the windshield so I could see to drive. I guess if there weren't 3 motorcycles in the garage I might not have that problem.
  15. Words like that almost always indicate a translation issue - as in these ads are using fake pictures and are being written overseas, then translated to English. Run away, run fast! And 'helping' these guys with their wording and description will only make it more difficult for the inexperienced rider to see through the ad. I say let 'em crash and burn with their own version!
  16. Wrong. That's one group of idiots that doesn't include me. (I do, however, belong to a few others)
  17. I bid, was outbid, and bid again. This auction will most likely go beyond my means. God bless everyone who helps, tries to help, or needs His help. Good thoughts and prayers are always needed, but in the end, His will be done. It only takes a moment for each of us...please pray.
  18. I read the same thing here, and can't find the post. I'm sure it was in reference to a 2004 radiator. Definitely would like to know about that one...
  19. Had it right the first time...very relaxing....
  20. You're in an excellent area. Rt. 33 west of there to Elkins is an awesome run. Go south, and come back across Cheat Mtn on Rt. 250 for a nice trip over the mountain. North of there, Rt. 211 is a nice run where it crosses between Rts 340 and 42 with wide sweepers and a few tight surprises. It should be great riding for you wherever you go around there.
  21. That's an awesome area. We just did a ride over Labor Day weekend from Indiana Pa to Brookville, up to Ridgeway, 120 out to Emporium, and 555/255 to Dubois. Took a small side trip up to the dam at Sinnemahoning. Very nice. We should all be so lucky to have that as a 'work' trip. I just commute the same 11 miles back and forth every day.
  22. Venom X - Bias Venom R - Radial Also, sometimes there is a B in the size code (140/90B16 77H) for Bias Ply.
  23. After well over 1,000 miles on the new E-3's, I have to say that I really like them. I rolled them through the hills of WV and VA all week and they handled like a champ. The bike sure is a lot easier to handle, it must be a combination of the new tires and the smaller front. In any case, I'm pleased with my choices. So far every decision I've made based on the info from this forum has seemed to be the right one for me. Gotta love it!
  24. Well, just got home from my first 50 miles on the new skins, Dunlop E-3's with the 130/90 front. I'm going to have to come up with a new nickname for 'The Beast', because you all were right - it just doesn't handle like one anymore. Much easier to maneuver in the lots, and it seems to want to pull me into the turns instead of waiting for me to push it through. Just like everyone said, it feels lighter too. Next week I should be testing it through the hills of WVA and VA. My 'I' basket is due to arrive tomorrow, so I'm looking forward to yet another improvement. I just hope I have time to get it done before I leave for the Chesapeake this Sunday. (I need to cruise up the peninsula and get Delaware on my map.) It sure would be nice to only hear the 'crickets' at night...
  25. Appreciate the offer, but I will be riding. I actually like the heel shifter, I just can't get used to it because it's in the position where I always put my foot on the other bike. I've only got 10K miles under my belt on this one - I need to get used to it, maybe another 20-30K or so!
