  1. Hello all, I am soon to be planning my first long ride of this sort. I'll be leaving Toronto, Canada on Sat. July 3rd. and checking into a condo in Las Vegas on Sun July 11th for a week then returning to Toronto for Sun July 25th (Yes this is the time frame as the International Rally, so I will be missing it) I will be riding down on my own, and my wife will be flying down to Las Vegas for the week and I will be on my own for the ride home. I have just purchased a leesurlite tent trailer that I will be towing down for my nightly sleeping while on the road. ( I do not have possession of the trailer yet for any pictures) One of my many questions would be; roads, or sights that would be regretable for me to miss out on. Just looking at the maps it would look like the following States would be the most straight forward route: Michigan Ohio Indiana Illinois Missouri Kansas Colorado New Mexico Arizona Nevada The route home I was hoping to take a different way which may include different States. Any thoughts, suggestions or ideas, would be greatly appreciated as I soon want to start planning my route. Thanks Dave Dogman
  2. Gary, does this mean you are still out on the road travelling from your Las Vegas trip? Or is this now another one?
  3. My wife and I got headsets last summer. What a difference. No more yelling back and forth. I should have bought them sooner. I hope you like them as much as we do.
  4. Scott, I mean Grand Mother, that is great. You and Sheri must be very excited. Lots more fun to be had with Grandkids.
  5. Christmas of 08 I got a CX2 coaxil helicopter. Wow so much fun. Easy to fly and easier to crash. Two other friends got them as well and we where playing war in the air. I then got a Walkera 3G. Just a mini indoor single blade to learn to fly. Then I bought a T-Rex 450 in the summer of 09. I don't have a simulator as my computer is too old to support one, but I can hover and fly around. I'm not good at nosing in, so I always back in when I want to bring it back to me.
  6. Congratulations Bob, I'm excited for you and look forward to riding with you and seeing this new beast on the road.
  7. Wayne, I had a 2002 forester for 3 years. Like everyone else on here I loved the performance and ride, but I always missed the space that I was use to in a van (or in your case a truck) when I turned in my lease at the 3 years I bought a van. Much better for myself family and work dogs.

  9. Wayne, thank you for posting this. Nice to see that the dogs are getting recognized and honored for the hard work and sacrifice they gave for their cities.
  10. It was last December when I was first looking at getting a hitch. I also had to wait to hear back from him, he was very appologetic as he was on Vacation and therefore unable to respond. When he did get back with me he was excellent to deal with. Very quick to respond in all future questions and very fast to ship the hitch out when I was ready to purchase.
  11. For me this site creates a connection with others as well as my bike even when I'm not able to ride it. Reading of other's trips, planned trips and meet and eats, plants a great seed of hope for future destinations that maybe are not doable at present. Not to mention hearing how much fun everyone is having now with their bikes. We must all plan for the future, but it is also very important to live in the present now, and from what I am reading many of you on this site are enjoying life now. Not too mention the genuine concern and desire to help others. I am proud to belong to this VentureRider.org site.
  12. Scott, let me address your first paragraph at the start of this thread about another rider killed. It is a horrible waste of life when anyone is killed in or by a vehicle especially a motorcyclist since we all love to ride. These threads are not meant to imply that the rider should have or even been able to avoided the accident. As Skid said some can not be avoided.
  13. Being aware while riding and anticipating what others may do is very important to safe riding and driving. Like sailor said. It doesn't matter how big/small, bright/dull, loud/quiet. your bike or car is. Some people are out to lunch while driving. I drive a marked Police Car with lights and sirens on and people still don't see or hear me comming. It is truely unbelievable. The people don't have to be A__ holes, just an ordinary person who is not concentrating on driving, but rather day dreaming of something that has happened to them or about to. A moments inatention can lead to devastation. As the others have said, defensive driving is our number one safety precaution. As others have said, thinking about how you will react to a situation makes you react quicker as opposed to being stunned by it, then having to react. Thinking of your reaction is like practicing which will help in muscle memory just like any sport. All the precautions of lights, vests, horns or loud mufflers may help in some incidents and that is great, but there is nothing that I know of that will get the attention of a person who is not paying attention and zoned out while driving. We just have to be observant and spot those drivers so we can avoid them or the situation they are about to inflict upon us. I love riding and find I can spot the people zoned out easier on my bike than in the car. Maybe it's because I'm looking more for them or maybe it's because I have no barriers or obstructions and can see better. I also have found so far that it has been easier on my bike to avoid some of these potention crashes that I would not have been able to avoid in a car. Some times it's breaking, swerving, accelerating or a combination of any two.
  14. I bought a set of Platinum Burners (round chrome) from Walmart for $15. Someone made a post with a picture of them mounted to the front fork wind deflectors and they really looked good. I have not installed mine yet as I'm not electrically inclined, so I've been procrastinating. They do look good.
  15. Squidley, thanks for this post. It sounds like everyone had a great time and it is wonderful to hear how you are doing down south. We still have nice sunny weather up north here, but of course not the real heat to go with it.
  16. Just got in myself from riding for approx 5 hours. Awsome day out there. I have to work tomorrow (Sunday) so I will be going in on my bike. Loving it.
  17. John and Dianne, Thank you for your posting and such a true and meaningful poem. I know this has also been hard on the two of you. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Marion and her two daughters along with yourselves who where such good friends with Stephen and Marion. Dave and Bernie
  18. I got my two yesterday. Thank you very much.
  19. Gary, it sounds (and from the look of the pictures) like you had a great time. Salt on the roads already. Good luck getting it all out and off of your bike.
  20. Bob, thanks for organizing this ride. It was cold, but we dressed for it wearing our ski pants and balaclava's, so the cold did not bother us. However, the snow that we rode through getting to Earl's (our meeting place) sure made for some memorable times for my wife. I wish we had gotten a picture parked beside some of the cars with the little bit of snow on them. We left Toronto at 7am and got home at 8:30pm. Thank you for all the offers to bunk the night at your homes. Our original intention was to spend the night, but the snow that we went through earlier put a little fear and desire into getting home before more came down. We look forward to our next ride together. Dave and Bernie
  21. Ben, sorry to hear about your bike. Helpful neighbours are hard to come by, but with ones like that who needs the destructive kind. On another note. Big Tom ate your ice cream yesterday, and just in case that wasn't enough, I drank a milk shake for you.
  22. [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=40571]3rd Annual WNY Fall Folage Run - VentureRider.Org[/ame] If I have done it right, this is the link for next weekends ride
  23. Hello Doug and welcome to the site. Like Evan's earlier post, their are a number of us close by. Next weekend Sat Oct 17th there is a Western New York Fall Colour Ride if the weather permits. There is a posting about this ride. I havn't heard, but I'm sure there will be a few heading down from around here. My wife and I will be going down for this ride. In case you don't know, there is no fee or charges for joining any of these rides or meet and eats, other than what you may want to eat. I know some bike organizations have a small charge to raise money. So now there is no excuses. We we see you out at one of our gatherings soon. Dave
  24. Gary, good question. Goofychuck, can you still open the saddle bag? If so I will have to get one of those for my wife. That is if they sell them in Canada.
  25. Thank you Don for placing the order. The money for two has been sent via pay pal and my address was attached. Thanks again David
