It sounds like the majority of you recommend a back rest which I do believe would be the best thing to do. But when I saw the golf rack, I thought how cool is that, I can take my bike golfing instead of the van. More time to ride. I may even get more golf in as an excuse to go for a ride. My camera is not working Maineac so I can't post any pics. It took me forever to figure out how to post my new licence plate photos. I would love to have my plate under my name like yours is.... Not that I want to copy, but after all, our plates are our handles on this site.

As a result of all the great post, I bought a set of the Kuryakyn longhorn highway pegs. They are amazing. Instant and I do mean instant relief from the engine heat. The wind then blows up my legs and I can feel it on my chest. Even my wife can feel the difference as there is more air flow for her as well. Now I have to decide on buying a back rest or trailer hitch next. I saw a golf club rack on one of the recommended sites that I would love to get if I get a hitch.

Beer30, Nice to hear that the State Trooper listened to you and knew your story was truthful and let you off.

I want to share a very close call I had as a reminder of the importance of getting past these transport trucks and not riding beside them. I always lag behind a truck for a bit then gun it to get past them very quickly so as not to be in there blind spot for long. Well, as I was passing this transport I was doing as I always do when a tire blew out from the truck. For what ever reason I had already moved further over to the left then I normally do. The tire literally exploaded forward, sideways and to the rear of the truck. I was fortunate enough to see the debris and swerve back towards the truck to fit inbetween the debris as I acceleated even faster to fit through the open air that I saw. Rubber went infront of my bike and just behind it. I was very lucky that I didn't slow down or I would have been knocked off my bike. I was lucky who knows what is best to do, slow down or speed up, it all depends on the circumstance. In any case I just wanted to air this to remind everyone to pay special attention and get as far away from the trucks when you are passing them. I'm going back on the highway this afternoon and riding to Niagara on the Lake for the night and I have to say I may not be passing too many trucks.

I was all excited for you, as I know how much I love my new bike. Dirty, dirty trick. On the flip side, this new bike can keep you in shape so you will be able to enjoy your real bike longer.

Johanne, your Father must be a terrific man to be graced with such a loving daughter. I will keep him in my prayers for a full recovery,as well as your Mom and yourself with all the emotions and fears which must be so overwhelming. Please take care of yourself and make sure your Mom is as well. With your Dad suffering so much, it is easy not to get the proper food and sleep for yourself as you naturally want to take away some of his suffering, by neglecting your needs. Stay strong for your Dad and Mom. God Bless Dave O'Brien (Dogman)

TFD, my wife and I from TPS have just booked our room. The receptionist said there where only a few rooms left. We look forward to meeting everyone Saturday morning and we'll get directions from you later. We are heading up north to our spot in the Kawartha's for the long weekend. Have a great final summer weekend.

Great question trickster. I am also looking for highway pegs, but wanting to add the wind deflectors or vents which also attach to the same enigine guard. A salesmen at a Dealership told me I couldn't have both is that true? Can anyone advise?

I have received tentative accommodations for the 3 nights, so I plan on attending. I am going to register tonight.

http://s512.photobucket.com/albums/t327/Dogman_ca/ I tried to post the pictures directly on here, but havn't had any luck so hopefully this will work. I also tried to use a thumbnail like many of you have with your sign in handle, but havn't figured that out either.

Hello Servicedog. I was curious with your handle. I also work with dogs and wanted to see if we where in the same line of work. I read you are in Guide dogs of America. You must make a lot of people happy with the new found mobility with a dog as a guide. A belated Happy Birthday

I switch mine to reserve when I start to run out. I have an 07 and read that someone on this site goes about another 40miles before filling up. I thought I would test mine as the odometer counts up. I only went 28 miles before I chickened out and gased up. I then fliped the switch back to the on. I like the added safety, just in case the fuel light doesn't come on, or the millage doesn't change to count up. Lots of safety's, but I like it that way. I have never run out of gas in 25years and I never want to.

I have sent off an email request for shared accomodations as my wife can not get the time off work. If that comes thru then I will register immediately and happily join you guys on the ride down. I am half expecting to hear back that they will not check for shared accomodations until I register. If that is the case, then I guess I will have to bite the bullet and register and hope I can get accomodations this late in the game. Will you be joining up with the Buffalo people on the 14th in the am?

Blueslover, This sounds like it would be a great trip. I'm not on holidays until the week of Aug. 18th, but I can see if I can take the 14th, and 15th off. Do you have any info on hotel costs and how we go about booking if I can make it. Also how does one register for the ride. We got some info for a Canadian ride 911 ride at work, but when I inquired, they where already booked up. Thanks

Sorry to hear about all your problems with the bike. I also have an 07 and just lost my passenger talk button. I can't say enough about the ride though, I love it and so does the wife. I also feel fortunate to have found this web site. Not only great information, but I was able to make it to the Kitchener Rally for opening day and the final dinner. I met some great people, who really made me feel welcome and many have given me tips already as to how to fix my missing passenger talk button if Yamaha will not replace it under warranty. My warranty is only valid in the States as I went across to buy it as it was so much cheaper. I hope when you get everything tightened up and working well, that you will enjoy the bike and time that you are on it.

Lost passenger push talk button possible at Kitchener Rally
dogman replied to dogman's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
You guys are great. Thank you for all the help. -
Hello everyone who attended the Kitchener Rally. As a new member I really felt welcomed into the group and only wished I would have been able to stay for the whole rally. I lost my passenger push to talk button either on my way out to the Wednesday dinner from Toronto or possible in the parking lot or on the way home. A shot in the dark here just in case someone may have seen the black knob in the parking lot before we all left the Restaurant. The 401 was heavy with construction, so I am sure it probable fell off while I was going over all that uneven pavement.

I'm a new member of about 3 weeks from when I bought my new 07 RSMV. I made it out to the opening day on Sunday with my wife. Thank you, to all of you who made us feel as we have always belonged to the Venture club. We had a great time, met lots of people from both Canada and USA. We both have to work during the week, but I bought a ticket for the Wednesday dinner and will be making my way back out from Toronto. I hope the weather keeps up. Sunday was perfect and today looked no different. I look forward to meeting more of you at other functions and rides.

The best price I could get with all my calling around for a new 07 was $972/year. $500 deductable. The company was Rider Plus.

Question from a new member in Toronto. I will be working days the week of the Rally. Is there any provisions for a person to ride out in the evening and participate?
-
Hello I read a post from someone just as I was leaving with my wife to go up north before the weekend, but I can't find it now. There was a person from the Guelph area talking about riding into Toronto to see the Fireworks display at Ontario Place on Sat. July 5th, and asking if anyone wanted to join he and his wife. If you are out there, we may be able to meet up with you.

Intercom and Radio in helmet
dogman replied to Maritimer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My 07 the push to talk buttons also cut out the radio. I have not used my CB yet as I havn't bought the head set yet. The push to talk buttons main purpose you are right are for the CB, but they cut out the radio if that is playing. Because I don't have the headset, I don't know if my machine will cut out the radio when we try to talk or not. -
Thank you Gentlemen, I will go out and buy my oil filter today. I have also read others suggesting the rear end (drive shaft) be changed as well. Is this a difficult thing to do without specific tools?

Intercom and Radio in helmet
dogman replied to Maritimer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I know you said you don't want to have to push a button or anything, but on the 07 the driver and passenger both have a button to push to cut out the radio to talk. Driver's is on the left handle bar and Passenger's is left side also by the volume control. I'm in the process of looking for head sets, but for now we use the buttons to cut out the radio when we want to shout at each other over the road noise. Have a great summer
