Fantastic article submitted by Lynn Nicholls. Lack of power was the main complaint about the original Royal Star and according to the Dyno tests...this certainly solves that problem. http://www.venturerider.org/carbswap/

I often get emails from new members asking how to start a new topic. Even the terminology can be confusing for folks who have never participated in a discussion forum before. It is typically called a new "Thread" but that means new "conversation", "topic", "discussion", etc. So...to start a new thread just choose the area that you want to post to. Examples are "Watering Hole", "General Tech Talk", etc. Click on that topic area and you will see the list of current "threads". At the upper left, just above the list of threads is a blue button that says "New Threads". Click that button and you are on your way. Don

Now that sounds cool. Does it have an amp built in also? And the pictures and instructions are where?

The URL way is only if you are posting a link to a picture hosted elsewhere. Now if you click on the paper clip...it opens a window just like the "Manage Files" button. Don- 15 replies

This is a fantastic discussion. If you two could put this together in a tech type article it would be great for the first gen tech library. If you decide to do so, just put it together in html format or even in Microsoft Word format or any way you want to. I can make it work from there. Don

Installing Harley Davidson License Plate Bracket Light Kit Submitted by Tartan Terror Anyone owning a Royal Star Venture knows full well the lack of good lighting on the rear of this motorcycle. Although I have seen may good ideas I chose the Harley Davidson license plate bracket with the incorperated taillights. Harley Davidson’s part number for this item is 68230-97A or 68230-97B. Both will work well and the only difference is that the “B” part number has a full backing behind the Plate portion. http://www.venturerider.org/hdlights/image002.jpg Step 1: Assemble the lamps onto the chrome bracket. The lamps are easily installed onto the frame and are held on by allen head bolts provided in the kit. You must also flatten the two raised nubs on the plate portion of the plate portion. After all assembled cut off the plug in connector as the Harley plug will not fit the RSV. http://www.venturerider.org/hdlights/image004.jpg Step 2: Remove the License Plate from the Venture and gently pull out the wires inside the pod behind the removed plate. Find the Blue and Yellow wires inside the pod. Next connect the Blue wire on the Harley lights to the to the Blue wire on the RSV. After doing this connect the Red wire on the Harley lights to the Yellow wire on the RSV. I connected the wires using a male female type of connector so I could take the lights off easily for repair or cleaning if need be. Note: If you test the lights after you have made these connections lights wont work. You must bolt the plate and lights to the bike to ground the lights! http://www.venturerider.org/hdlights/image006.jpg http://www.venturerider.org/hdlights/image008.jpg http://www.venturerider.org/hdlights/image010.jpg Step 3: Tuck wires into the pod carefully and Bolt plate frame to bike. Test lights at this point and if all is good you are finished! Lights will operate as brake and running lights and will add lots of great light on the rear! http://www.venturerider.org/hdlights/image012.jpg Here is the Finished product!!! Advice? Switching to V-Max cams
Freebird replied to BadPigg's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I would be very surprised if the V4 does not already meet most EPA requirements and if not, it would be VERY simple for it to do so. Heck...with the addition of the carbon canister, it already meets the strict California requirements. It wouldn't be very difficult to add fuel injection. I really don't look for the V4 to go away because of EPA regulations. -
Advice? Switching to V-Max cams

I would like to take one for a test ride. I always liked the bikes with a lot of low end torque. Lot of fun. -
I can only offer my own opinion. I've used the mercury gauges and now I have the Carbtune and I will never go back to mercury. I think that the Carbtune gives better/smoother readings and you don't have to worry about the mercury getting sucked out which sometimes happens and then you have to worry about replacing the mercury and etc. The Carbtune is easy to use, easy to transport and I think will last forever with minimal maintenance.

No..it's all of you who are doing a good job. The only joke deleted was at the request of the person who posted it. You folks are the best I've ever seen at self-moderating. Sure it nice to not have to worry about what goes on here when we are away from the computer. Like I said...a couple have been borderline but not deleted. The reminder is only because sometimes when things get borderline...the next person will try to push it just a little further...the next a bit further yet...etc. No big deal.

This is just a reminder for some and a note to our many newer members that this is a PG rated site. Please remember that when you are posting your jokes. Some lately have been borderline. Have fun but please remember the few rules that we have here. PG rated, no racial slurs, etc. You are a GREAT group and this post is not aimed at anyone in particular. Just a general reminder. Thanks

I just want to bring this thread to folks attention again. It's a good idea from time to time to re-visit this topic. You folks have done amazingly well at keeping to the vision that was established for this site but some of the jokes and discussions have teetered right on the border lately. It's going to be a LONG winter... Let's try to keep to the high ground. Don

Yea...that title got your attention didn't it. I received a private message from a member with a link to a tool called "Stripper". What it does is allows you to paste text in and it strips out the smiley faces and etc. so that you can print it without all that stuff. He wanted to know if something like that is available here. The answer is yes. That is a feature that is built in to the software here. There are two ways that you can do it. If you want to print out a thread but don't want all the smiley faces and etc., then all you have to do is click on the "Thread Tools" link that you can find at the top right of the first post of any thread. There is an option in that drop down menu to "show printable version". If you click on that, it will give you a printable version of that thread without the members weather banners, sig pictures, smiley faces, etc. If you happen to be on a slow dial up connection or just generally do not like the smilies, signatures, etc., you can turn them off all the time. Just click on UserCP in the upper menu bar and then click on "options" in the left menu. Scroll down and you'll see a section for display options. There you can de-select images, avatars, and signature pictures. Now...I just realized that maybe the member was actually talking about a program to strip the brackets and etc. out of email that was forwarded to you. If somebody just forwards an email to you...the quoted text is often preceded by brackets or arrows. If you want to copy and past that text to the forum or send it to somebody else...you have to manually delete all those brackets. Here is a link to a program that you simply copy and paste the text into and it cleans it up for you. There is also a free down loadable version that you can save to your computer and not have to go to a website to use. The link is: http://www.mistered.us/stripper/index.shtml So....you can pretty much have it your way. Hope this is helpful information. Don

I've owned J&M and now Airriders for about 3 years. The Airriders are ok but not any better than the J&M and in my opinion, have a weakness in the design where the microphone is molded into the left speaker. Mine broke and I ended up doing a homemade repair on it. I think that I would go back to J&M next time. Take a look at http://www.sierra-mc.com They have a good selection and are great to deal with. Anatomy of a Muffler These pictures and comments were sent by GeorgeS. Not exactly "free flowing" mufflers huh? Here are his comments and the pictures. Don, Here are the muffler disassembly photos, if anybody is interested in what is inside of them. Lots of baffles and back pressrue. I have completed rebuilding them. Sounds like a stock Harley FLH if you adjust for 4 cylinders. More base sound, somewhat louder. Definitely more roll on power in 5th from 65 MPH. Help? Front Fork Air Pressure
Freebird replied to V4ME's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
The max is only 7 lbs. The volume is very low so it's hard to check them with a traditional gauge. About the only way to do it correctly is with a special pump. Many of us use the Progressive gauge/pump combination. It has a zero loss disconnect. That being said, I find that 0-3 lbs. works just fine. Don -
That is NOT good but I'm sure you know that already. I have the Battery Tender and it has never overcharged the battery. If it is a good battery and the charger is boiling the water out then there is certainly something wrong with it. Hopefully you haven't already destroyed the battery.
-
Many of us here have added them and most of the responses have been very positive. I've had them on my bike for almost 3 years now and love them. You won't notice a lot of difference from a picture. What I really like about them is that I can ride two up and even pulling a trailer without having to put so much air in the rear shock as to make it uncomfortable. I now run about 35 lbs. even heavily loaded with no problems dragging mufflers in tight curves and etc.

I too have ordered from Ridersafe and was very pleased with their service.

Excellent post and something that everybody should read over and over and over. It's easy to read such things but harder to get them embedded in your mind. You have to reach the point where evasive and other maneuvers become second nature.
