  1. No, the classifieds software is completely different than the forum software. I have thought about upgrading the forum to the latest version but every time I start looking into that, I just read about too many bugs and other issues with it. Also, a LOT of the customizations that I have in place here will not be compatible with the new version and some of the features would be missed. I will likely have to eventually do the upgrade but I'm just not looking forward to it.
  2. No, he has not re-posted it yet. He knows about the new area and will get it posted again but he and his wife and been away for a nice ride. I'm sure that he will get it put there soon.
  3. Time to seek your input again. As most of you have noticed by now, I have created a classifieds area within the forum. One of the reasons for this is that our supporting members such as Sky_Doc, Rick Butler, Carbon_One, etc. were constantly having problems with their ads expiring in the old system. There is no way to make ads there permanent so those vendors who have multiple items for sale over a long period were always having to re-create their ads once they went away. I worked on that problem for some time but just didn't get it to work correctly. So, I decided to test the classifieds in the forum. The downside to having them in the forum is that they are now set to expire in 60 days except for our member vendors. In all other areas, the ads expire in 60 days and you do not have an option to renew them and you will not receive a notification that your ad is about to expire. There is also no way to do auctions for St. Judes or otherwise. So, my question is, which do you prefer? Do you like the old classifieds better or the new forum based ones? If you like the forum based ads then I have to assume that you are OK with the limitations regarding no renewals and etc. At this time, I have turned off the old ads so that no new ones can be placed but I can easily just turn it back on. As for the member vendors, one option would be to let them keep their forum areas but have all other ads placed in the old system. I don't want two complete systems however. I don't think....heck...that is another option though and it's really up to you. As always, your feedback will be appreciated.
  4. Sorry, I just can't agree with this. Regardless of what the manual may say, and I honestly don't even remember, if you put 3.9 quarts of oil in these bikes even with a filter change, it is going to be over filled. You don't want it any more than just above half way in the sight glass. Also, it should NOT be done with the bike on the side stand. If you fill it to the half way mark while it is on the side stand you will be WAY over filled. You want it in the upright position so doing it on the Carbon One lift adapter is perfect. Just a quick edit here. Allwx and I were apparently typing at the same time. I agree with what he is saying. Just a little over 3 quarts usually brings it to the proper level even with a filter change. I usually add 3 quarts, start it and let it run for 4 or 5 minutes and then add just enough more to bring it just above the center of the sight glass.
  5. Slightly new menu? I haven't changed anything.
  6. OK folks...it works for me. Looks like we have enough...er...let's just say "volunteers"...to give this a go. So, We'll say that the general location has been chosen. Now Big Tom and team can get started on the details. The actual date should be the first priority but I'm sure that they will need to follow up with their leads and etc. before nailing that down.
  7. I agree that it would do absolutely nothing for our bikes. The V-Twins and even some of the old single lungers were different but I just don't see the need or purpose for our bikes.
  8. Not much really. Just the rails, two end pieces where they connect to the crash guards with the two long bolts and two bolts for the rear. Just make sure that they come with the end pieces where they mount to the crash guards because they would be VERY difficult to make or purchase.
  9. Yes, they will.
  10. Also, don't overlook boats.net A lot of us here have used them with very good results. http://www.boats.net
  11. You will just have to trace it out to find out. It did not come from the factory. Only the round connector for the headsets would be stock. It could possibly be going to the battery for a charger to plug into. It could also have been added for some heated clothing or something like that. What shape and size is it? The headset jack will be round and I think 7 pin..maybe 5..I don't remember now but you are saying that they are both 2 pin. If so, neither would be for the headset.
  12. First of all, I'm really sorry that you have been afflicted with that horrible thing called cancer. It's a word that I have truly come to hate over the past few years. Please know that you will be in our thoughts and prayers. As for the Seafoam, YEP, I was in Advanced Auto yesterday and they had it sitting right at the registered for the price of $6.99. I picked up a couple of cans while I was there.
  13. It is not at all uncommon for the ignition switches to fail. About the only real solution is to replace it with a new one.
  14. Are you SURE that's all it is? The '83 models did have a problem with the frame rusting and I've seen more than one break. It does result in it practically riding on the fender.
  15. Heck, I'm sorry. You are right and you DID post your question in the First Gen Tech Talk area. I'm not 100% sure if it's the same or not.
  16. Here is an excellent tech post with pictures. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=515
  17. Congrats. I know that it takes a LOT of work to reach that level. I studied Tae Kwon Do for a while when I was in high school. Had a great instructor that knew what was best for me but it wasn't what I wanted. He wanted to teach me discipline, protocol, conditioning and etc. and I just wanted to learn to kick butt. He also stressed that Karate was to be considered as a defense and not to be used to show people that you were a bad ..... He was right of course but I was young and dumb and wanted things to progress faster. Then I studied again a few years later in Alabama. It wasn't Tae Kwon Do and I don't remember now what it was. I just remember that where the Tae Kwon Do I studied went from brown belt to black belt but the one in Alabama had a red belt that I THINK was between brown and black. At any rate, that instructor was a psycho and didn't care about tradition or body conditioning and etc. very much. He said he knew that we were all there to learn to kick butt and that is what he was going to teach us. His theory was that the best defense was a fast and furious offense. It was pretty intense and not good at all. I was a bit older by then and realized that my first instructor had it right. So, I never got anywhere with it but I learned that it takes a lot of practice and a lot of conditioning and I admire you for staying with it. I'm sure that you make these old folks here proud. Me too...even thought I'm NOT an old folk.
  18. The very best solution, if you don't ride the bike in the winter, is to remove the battery and put it in basement or someplace else that is out of the freezing weather. Hook a battery tender to it and it will be ready when riding season comes around again.
  19. Yes, they will fit fine. It's the OTHER way that is a problem. The chrome billet covers will not fit over the stock air filters. If you install them, you have to go to the K&N filters.
  20. I think that it comes with audio but cb/intercom is about a thousand dollar option.
  21. That rumor about having to be fuel injected and water cooled repeats itself every year. For the past 3 or 4 years here it has been stated the the Venture would be discontinued that specific year because it was not fuel injected. It doesn't matter if they are fuel injected or not as long as the meet the EPA requirements on pollutants. As for water cooling, the 2012 Harleys are also out and they are not water cooled either. I think that the water cooling thing has always just been a rumor. I do think that eventually carbs will be a thing of the past though. I have real doubts that there will be a 2012 RSV but I don't really attribute it to the fuel injection issue.
  22. They had it in 2011 and maybe even 2010 but the 2012 added some nice features. Trunk was optional before, standard now. Front lowers were not available until this new 2012 model. I sat on one at a customers place a few weeks ago and it really felt good. I would consider one if I were still in the market. I wish it were water cooled and shaft drive though. It is air cooled and belt drive. Yea, I know, it is OIL cooled but that is STILL basically air cooled.
  23. Yes, I've actually already looked at that also. It can absolutely be done but it requires a fair amount of custom modification of the code. It's not that big a deal to do it once but the problem is, it has to be done again every time there is a software upgrade. I have a lot of customizations already and am trying to keep any actual code changes to a minimum. It takes ONE click of the mouse button to go to the advanced mode. I just don't know if it is worth all the custom programming.
  24. That dealer and I would be going toe to toe. There is NO WAY that the bushing should be considered a wear item and it and the sides stand should be replaced under warranty. I've been around a LOT of these bikes from '99 to present and have not known of the bushing on the side stand wearing out. You should be talking to Yamaha corporate if he won't get off that lame story.
  25. Folks, I agree with those here who say that the stock springs on these RSVs are just weak. I have owned two '99 models. I can assure you that the clutches were maintained per the manual and I can PROMISE you that neither bike ever had any type of oil used in them that was not specifically made for motorcycles with wet clutches. On my first '99, the clutch started slipping at just over 30,000 miles. On my current '99, the stock spring was replaced at my last maintenance day with about 30,000 miles on it. In the first case, I changed out only the spring and that corrected the problem. On my current bike, SkyDoc installed his complete kit in it. I don't expect that I will ever experience any slipping again. Yes, the springs in these RSVs are a weak point. I have never had to replace the disks or the plates. The good news is that it is a cheap and simple fix. It's just not a big deal to correct the problem. If you are running the stock clutch and it is not yet slipping, I would recommend replacing it anyway somewhere around the 30,000 mile mark. If it is not already slipping, it will soon enough. Just get it over with already.
