That really pisses me off. Here in Michigan it's illegal, a motorcycle "owns" the whole width of the lane just like any other vehicle. BTW, bicyclists own the whole lane too. How many of us take 3/4 of the lane when we pass them?

How much oil did he put in the water? Maybe a quart between the two bowls? He talked when removing the hay from one bowl about "only 1/4 lb. hay". So that would be 2lbs hay for each gallon of oil. How many thousands of gallons are leaking a day? Seems like it would take a lot of hay. Nellie might have to go hungry.......

Sealed Bearing Question?
MiCarl replied to cimack77's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If it's a sealed bearing how do you know how much grease is in it? How are you going to add grease to a sealed bearing without ruining the seal? -
The 1st generation Ventures are "sport touring" motorcycles. They eat up the twisties.

Technically she probably did need a work visa. Reason to turn her back but the strip search seems a bit much. Also, farm workers in the U.S. speak Spanish, not French. Perhaps that made them suspicious of her story:confused07: It's been a long time since I've crossed the border with Canada but I used to periodically. Got turned back once by Canada because I was bringing firewood. They were very polite, way nicer than when I normally get thrown out of places. On the other hand our own people often behaved like asses, and I'm a citizen over here:confused24:. Next time she should make sure she's on a watch list. That seems to be the only sure way to get let in.

I have not had a 15% or 20% coupon for HF in a long time...

They seem to have quit emailing them. I just got my Discover magazine today, there is one in there. -
There is also a metal bracket that the spring rides on when the trailer isn't bouncing. I put a strip of old inner tube above it (away from the spring) to take up some of the extra gap and damp the rattle from that side.

It's probably that special "light blue" that makes it look maroon. That'll drive up the value every time.

I assume from your question you changed the carb holders (the rubber pieces that bolt to the heads that the carburetors push into). Are you sure you have them oriented properly. If the orientation is proper (everything lines up) and they just won't go in try lubricating them with a little soapy water. I've also found that the clamps need to be looser to get them back than they needed to be to come out.

When I've seen this situation it's always been from a cylinder not firing at idle. -
The box Dingy refers to splits off a radio antenna feed from the CB antenna. You don't need the box if you are using the antenna only for CB (must be a CB antenna).

Fork Oil Substitutes
MiCarl replied to 84xj1100's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
DEXTRON II has a viscosity of 5W20. It'll give you less damping than 10W fork oil. ATF has a high detergent level, where fork oil does not have detergents. Doubt if the detergent would cause a problem but....... You're looking at less than $20 worth of fork oil. Why risk not being satisfied with the results? -
carburetor help
MiCarl replied to dunkins1's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Fuel rising above the specified level is float valves not closing, or closing late. The valves could be leaking, float misadjusted or float stuck. The vents do connect to something, but it's been over a week since I was in mine so I've already forgotten. Hopefully somebody that doesn't have CRS will be along to fill you in. -

Being a border town they drummed it into us last year when the rules were changing. You either need a passport or the enhanced drivers license. I just checked, IN does not appear to offer the enhanced drivers license so it's a passport only for you. BTW, enhanced drivers license is only good for re-entry by land or sea. Anybody coming by airplane needs a passport.

The pieces on the fax machine appear to be the trim panels that go below the seat and behind the luggage on a MKII Venture. The large plastic piece (last 2 pics in first post) appears to be the filler panel used on a MKII Royale (maybe MKI too) when the radio and tape deck are removed. -
Refurbished, current updates, lifetime guarantee - $150. Of course the way my daughter drives that lifetime guarantee is probably less than 90 days:big-grin-emoticon:

With the use of a recording scan tool I think I solved this. The codes are not a heater circuit issue. They are "O2 sensor circuit high voltage" (P0132 and it's sisters). I misunderstood the descriptions because they all contained the phrase "This code indicates that the heated oxygen sensor reading is too high", and mistakenly thought it was referring to the heater voltage. The PCM is putting a 1.725 bias voltage on the O2 sensors instead of the 0.450 volts it should. Under Symptoms the description states: "You will likely not notice any drivability problems.", which sent me down the wrong path. Here's why I think that was incorrect: As the bias voltage was creeping up it caused the PCM to determine a rich condition. It compensated by turning the mixture leaner and updating the fuel trim tables. The long term fuel trims were at -35%. So on start up (open loop) it was running lean until the oxygen sensors started to function and put it in closed loop. The O2 voltage was still indicating rich so the PCM took another 25% of in the short term fuel trims. Now it's lean enough to detonate under acceleration. The knock sensor indicates this so the PCM dials the spark advance back to about 0, causing a complete loss of power. Tramping the pedal puts it back in open loop, the extra -25% fuel trim goes away, the knock stops, the PCM puts back the spark advance and the car accelerates briskly. I sorted all this out after I pulled the connectors from the PCM to clean them. That caused the trim tables to zero out. Now that it's not aggressively lean it never leaves open loop (O2 voltages stay above 1.25) and drives just fine with the default fuel delivery. Ordering replacement PCM first thing Monday morning.

Yeah, me too. I think there are very few of us who have never run a light or sign. Doesn't Homer Simpson live in Springfield?

Tippy or Top Heavy?
MiCarl replied to Blue Giant's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
They do take some getting used to. Had to do it all over again when the Mrs. climbed on too. Swifty's post gave me a thought though. If the bearings were really too tight they likely created little low spots in the races and flats on the rollers. Those spots will be right at the straight ahead position. If it's got them it will tend to hunt back and forth in them at low speeds. You might want to get the front wheel up and make sure it turns right to left VERY smooth.
